Fly To The Sun To Release Their Inaugural Album Featuring Members of Jethro Tull, Kansas, Jeff Beck, Mr. Big, Ringo Starr’s All-Stars and Others on October 27, 2023

Featuring Ray (Universe Records), Jennifer Batten (Jeff Beck, Michael Jackson), Billy Sheehan (David Lee Roth, Mr. Big, The Winery Dogs), Andrew Giddings (Jethro Tull, The Animals), Gregg Bissonette (Ringo Starr, ELO, David Lee Roth), Joe Deninzon (Kansas), JJ Sansaverino and other very notable musicians.

This new eclectic album project by innovative band Fly To The Sun crosses over into several musical genres, including prog rock, progressive pop, art rock, R&B, and more.

Featuring Ray (Vocals, flute - Universe Records), Jennifer Batten (Guitar - Jeff Beck, Michael Jackson), Billy Sheehan (Bass - David Lee Roth, Mr. Big, The Winery Dogs), Andrew Giddings (Keyboards - Jethro Tull, The Animals), Gregg Bissonette (Drums - Ringo Starr, ELO, David Lee Roth), Joe Deninzon (Violin - Kansas), JJ Sansaverino (Guitar - #1 Billboard) and other very notable musicians.

The outstanding production work by Andrew Giddings (16-year keyboardist/producer with Jethro Tull) has brought a wealth of expertise, arrangement experience, and keyboard excellence into the project. Carol Roehner is lead producer on the project, and her music capabilities, organizational skills, and intellect have been the foundation of the project.  Working on the project with assistance from producer/composer/musician Alex Grata, Ray as executive producer decided to create songs that are unique and appealing to a wide range of musical tastes.  The songs have an upbeat musical structure and positive lyrical content.

Ray has always been a staunch follower of progressive rock music icons like Jethro Tull, Yes, Pink Floyd, Queen, and other rock legends that pushed the envelope into uncharted musical territory and had a huge impact on his life.  Assembling this band of world class musicians to join him, Ray decided to produce music that will have a positive impact on listeners, hoping to help them feel good at a time in history when “feel good” songs are sorely needed.

Ray said, “The line by 70’s band Ten Years After, ‘I’d love to change the world, but I don’t know what to do,’ has always resonated with me. I would love nothing more than to produce music that genuinely makes people feel happy about their life, and going forward, that’s what I endeavor to do in this new body of work.”

Fly To The Sun has released the first single from their upcoming album. Watch the video for “Soaring With Angels”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGOSdggYx1Q

Ray, of Fly To The Sun, will be doing a worldwide streaming radio interview with the great Sanford Cohen on Oct 5th at 7pm EST, 4pm PST at: http://stream.affordablestreaming.com:8000/KQNA.mp3

Please put this on your calendar and spread the word. If you miss this live show we will have an archived link for it on our website. It’s sure to be a great hour interview, and I promise to make it interesting, informative, and fun!  We will play a couple unreleased tracks on the show.

New Group RUFFYUNZ Featuring Guest Artists Pat Travers & T.C. Tolliver To Release Debut Album

Featuring Pat Travers and members of The Plasmatics and Cactus!

RUFFYUNZ is a partnership between Randy Pratt (Cactus/The Lizards), Emmy winning engineer JZ Barrell, and singer Ed Terry and a collection of drum and guitar masters. Guest artists include guitar legend Pat Travers and drummer T.C. Tolliver from The Plasmatics. The songs are mainly about sex, animalistic sex, with a couple of “Dark Dread” numbers thrown in for bad measure.

“Funky, Heavy & Tight” is RUFFYUNZ credo!

Bassist Randy Pratt on bass, pedals and riffs and is best known for his work with The Lizards & Cactus. Singer Ed Terry has sung live with Stevie Wonder, Sister Sledge, John Oates, Sissy Houston, Slash and recorded with John Lennon, Keith Richards, Talking Heads, Simply Red, Little Steven, David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Fleetwood Mac, David Lee Roth, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner! JZ Barrell handles recording, engineering, mixing and arranging…he earns his writing credits. Jesse Berlin is the band's “go-to-first guitarist” usually and helps set a bedrock with embellishments.

The band's concept is to use “known” drummers and guitarists as guests on their records. Once the guest guitarist has done his or her thing, Jesse trades solos with them…and he really throws down the gauntlet, as he SHREDS!!

Says Randy, “The songs are written bass/drums first, creating a lot of grooves and BIG RIFFS. From decades of reading Bass Player magazine, it seems most song writing bassists don’t write on bass…so I hope that gives us a bit of a unique vibe….plus my ever growing collection of uncommon effect pedals, not intended for bass, influence the way I play and the stuff I come up with. After the sessions, my partner JZ Barrell arranges the music into more  defined song form. Usually, Ed Terry writes his vocals and lyrics, quickly, and records them at his home studio. Amazingly, it seems like we go with his first takes 90% of the time! Also, he writes most of his vocals to bass and drums, which is 'different', too, isn’t it? Josh and I produce the records. Then guitar is added to make the compositions come alive, searching for that sweet spot where James Brown and Black Sabbath collide.”

RUFFYUNZ next record is in the works now with and exciting new cast of guest players!

Gleb Kolyadin, The Virtuoso Iamthemorning Pianist, Releases His Debut Self-Titled Solo Album and Premieres First Track "The Best of Days" Feat. Steve Hogarth of Marillion

Debut features guest performers – Steve Hogarth, Gavin Harrison, Nick Beggs, Mick Moss, Jordan Rudess

Following the success of two highly-praised albums with Iamthemorning, Russian virtuoso pianist Gleb Kolyadin affirms his musical authority with his debut, self-titled album on Kscope, on 23rd February 2018.

The record features a staggering who's-who of performers, including: Gavin Harrison (King Crimson / Porcupine Tree) on drums; Nick Beggs (Steven Wilson) on bass; Theo Travis (Robert Fripp / Porcupine Tree / Steven Wilson) on flute and saxophone; the unmistakable voice and lyrics of Steve Hogarth (Marillion) alongside Mick Moss (Antimatter); and Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) on additional keys.

“Gleb is an extremely rare talent as a pianist and as a composer. His compositions are very inspiring as he breaks new ground on the instrument.” - Gavin Harrison (King Crimson / Porcupine Tree)

The first track to be revealed entitled “The Best Of Days” features the instantly recognizable vocals from Marillion's Steve Hogarth. On the collaboration Steve comments, “Gleb is a beautiful pianist and a great musician. I was invited to collaborate on his new solo album and my mind was made up as soon as I heard the music.”

Watch the lyric video for “The Best of Days” Featuring Steve Hogarth:

Gleb Kolyadin, Album of the Year winner with Iamthemorning for “Lighthouse” at the Progressive Music Awards 2016

“Gleb Kolyadin” is an emotive exploration of self-identity; a story of two parts with interweaving leitmotifs. The album's central concept weaves through an elaborate tonal and thematic structure, built around the extraordinary rhythm section of Gavin Harrison and Nick Beggs, which is accented at its focal points by guest appearances from Steve Hogarth, Jordan Rudess, Mick Moss and Theo Travis.

“The single greatest pianist I've ever met in my life.” - Daniel Cavanagh (Anathema)

The album is a collaborative piece with each musician recording their own parts separately, starting with Gleb recording himself on grand piano in Moscow Winter-Spring 2017 at the famed Mosfilm studio. The album was mixed and engineered by Vlad Avy, who also previously worked on the two Iamthemorning records. Gleb Kolyadin will be released on CD / LP and digitally and is now available to pre-order: http://smarturl.it/GLEB_KOLYADIN_ALBUM

“Gleb Kolyadin is a rare talent. A virtuoso classical pianist with tremendous compositional skills… believe you will find the listening experience quite breath taking.” - Nick Beggs (Steven Wilson)

Classic Rock Legends Spirit's Self-Titled Debut Album To Be Released On Limited Edition Hybrid SACD!

Includes 4 BONUS Tracks!

Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity will be releasing Spirit's Spirit on limited edition hybrid SACD, which includes 4 bonus tracks! Spirit's 1968 debut album spent more than six months on the Billboard album charts and received heavy airplay on underground FM radio. Their music was part of the core, essence, and heartbeat of  the hippie, psychedelic, counter culture movement. The album is timeless, as fresh today as when it first appeared.

The band could play more styles than almost any other group. On Spirit they unveiled a mélange of rock, jazz, blues, folk-rock, and even a bit of classical and Indian music. The music is experimental. The vocals flow as easily as the instrumentals. Spirit struck a careful balance between disciplined studio chops, jazz improvisation, and driving rock and roll. Guitar prodigy Randy California is a clear standout, but the other band members are superb as well; John Locke's shimmering keyboards, Mark Andes' subsonic wall of bass, and Ed Cassidy's precision drumming. Big credit has to go to lead singer Jay Ferguson, whose phrasing is always just right with a wonderful spontaneous feel. The Marty Paich string arrangements are sublime.

The songs tackled unusual lyrical themes, like “Fresh Garbage” and “Mechanical World” while “Uncle Jack” showed some solid psych-pop instincts. And, it has long been debated if Led Zeppelin lifted the opening guitar lines of Spirit's “Taurus” for their own much more famous “Stairway to Heaven.”

This is an essential album if ever there was one, and it would prove impossible to trace any musical time line without the inclusion of Spirit, and in particular, this body of work.

“A true touchstone to the late sixties and the music of the times.”

Progressive Rock Ensemble APE SHIFTER To Release Self-Titled Debut Album “Ape Shifter”

It was a cold, dark day when the fire burned high and the simian shadow raised his hand through the smoke in solemn praise and exclaimed, “It is time for instrumental rock!”

Germany – Progressive Rock ensemble APE SHIFTER will be releasing their self-titled debut album in March 2017! APE SHIFTER is all instrumental and reaches from rockin' 70's riffs played with punk rock ferocity to creeping metal grooves. Intense Simian Instrumental Rock from the nasty pits of the Hellabrunn Zoo.

Born on Friday the 13th in Washington, D.C. and raised in Laurel, Maryland, Jeff Aug is a cool underground guitarist who lives at the foothills of the Alps in Southern Germany for the last 18 years.  He has toured with Allan Holdsworth, Soft Machine, Johnny A., Albert Lee, and has performed shows with Jawbox, Shudder To Think, and Ice-T & Bodycount with his old band.  He's worked with John Stabb from Government Issue, has been touring and recording with Anne Clark for the last 10+ years, and has been touring as a solo guitarist for the last 20+ years. Cure for Gravity Announce the Release of Their Cinematic and Atmospheric Self-Titled Debut

Oakland, CA – Cure for Gravity delivers an entrancing amalgam of atmospheric synth/alt/prog rock that is cinematic in nature. The trio of Joe Markert (lead vocals, keys, guitar), Chris Gamper (drums and percussion), & Dave Walcott (lead guitar) will release their self-titled debut Cure for Gravity worldwide both physically and digitally on October 14, 2016.  Sometimes classified in genres ranging from Progressive Pop or Synth Rock to Cinematic Alt Rock, Cure for Gravity finds comfort in playing music to a rare world and its listening inhabitants, and will be touring in support of the release throughout 2016 and 2017.

On their new album, the band uses an eclectic blend of electronic and live elements to untether their listeners from this world and transport them into an audio landscape of their own design. Cure for Gravity draws inspirations from an eclectic range of sources, from classic Prog-Rock bands like early Genesis or King Crimson to the experimental electronica of John Cage, at times evoking The Cars or Emerson Lake & Palmer, as well as more recent references like Radiohead, Album Leaf, God is an Astronaut, and The National. It is precisely this eclectic delivery that keeps their fans engaged from track to track and show to show.

Lyrically, Cure for Gravity deals with isolation and helplessness in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. The theme not only fits well with the musical background, but also with the turbulent times we are living in. “BlackMetal,” the album’s first single, explores dark dystopian territory that eerily reflects today’s political landscape, and the band has produced a cinematic music video for the single that perfectly captures this mood. “Push,” their second single, delivers a more optimistic outlook while simultaneously retaining the darker feel of the albums co-inhabitants. “Sunspots,” another of the album’s standout tracks, is an unsettling and dark blend of a Pink Floyd inspired soundscape alongside lead singer Joe Markert’s haunting and Jeff Buckley-esque vocals.

The remainder of the album maintains this sonic thread, shifting us back and forth across the red line from the melodic anthem of “Tonight” all the way through the final John Barry-sounding closer “Killing for the Queen.”  With their new release, Cure for Gravity has displayed a full ownership of their sound, curating their diverse blend of influences into a unique musical offering while showcasing an impressive range of musical talents.

No strangers to hard work, the band has created their own independent record label, Cure for Gravity Records, to release this debut. Cure for Gravity was recorded at 25th Street Recording in Oakland, CA, and produced by Gabriel Shepard and Joe Markert. Expect more new music, the release of the “BlackMetal” music video, and touring both in the USA and Internationally throughout 2016 and 2017.

The Cure for Gravity album will be released worldwide on October 14, 2016 on all digital platforms and in select retailers.

Hard Driving Rock Debut CD By Neon Alley Feat. Guitarist / Vocalist David Vaccaro To Be Released

Boston, MA - Known for (what the band likes to call) Modern Classic Rock, Neon Alley takes you back to an era when Rock wasn’t about making a quick buck, but about songs written and performed from the heart.

BAND: David Vaccaro – Lead vocals, guitars, keyboards. Mike McDonald – Bass, Vocals. Scott Marion – Drums & percussion

BACKGROUND: David Vaccaro’s story in music has a rare upward sweep. Vaccaro has journeyed from hardscrabble Boston club dates to the 90’s music scene of Los Angeles and creative collaborations with some of melodic rock’s platinum selling vocalists. With the self-titled debut album of his new band Neon Alley (out on DMV Music), Vaccaro revisits that visceral soulfulness of his early days. This collection of originals including a cleverly re-imagined cover is perfectly crafted for sweat-soaked live performances.

And Neon Alley has been doing just that, sweat-soaked live performances in clubs in and around Central Massachusetts, working their live show and earning a reputation as one of the best live bands in the area.

David’s previous CD releases under the band name V-Project include Lost Demos and New Machine.

Lost Demos, for the most part an acoustic rock CD, features collaborations and vocals by Robin McAuley (Grand Prix, McAuley Schenker Group, Survivor, Raiding The Rock Vault), James Christian (House of Lords), Christopher Post (Dillinger) and Dennis Gresham.

V-Project’s Lost Demos garnered glowing reviews (see insert) from magazines and blogs in both the U.S. and Europe.

Vaccaro soon began work on his second CD that would be titled New Machine.

With Robin McAuley once again lending his distinctive vocal edge to four of the CD’s tracks, New Machine was a decidedly more amped up affair. A big step forward as well for Vaccaro as he is featured for the first time on five of the CD’s tracks in a lead vocal capacity, making over half of the CD, a one man show.

Reviews of V-Project’s New Machine were very positive, with the tracks You Don’t Care and Disclaimer receiving significant airplay on secondary radio markets around the US and on internet podcast radio shows.

NEON ALLEY: With his new 3-piece power trio–Neon Alley, Vaccaro is poised to give fans a neon blast of guitar-driven modern classic rock. In support of the new CD release the band has teamed up with Boston film Director Vladimir Minuty to create videos for the first two singles That’s How It Is and I Only Want To Be With You.

Previous Release: V-Project - Lost Demos
(DMV Music)

“The overall outcome of the album is astounding.....Lost Demos one of the finest albums of the year from this region or any other.” (Metronome Magazine, Boston)

“From the start, I was hit by “Only Friend”, written by McAuley/Vaccaro/Post. It’s universally relatable lyrics of gratitude, contrasting harmonies, percussion and Latin style guitar make this one a keeper. “The Good Times”, with its beautifully inviting guitar opening, is also impossible to resist.” (Carol Anne Szel for Inside Connection Magazine)

“These numbers aren’t your usual melodic rock that you’ve heard a thousand times already over the last 15 or so years – instead they are of an electric/acoustic relaxing quality that originally turned you on to the incredible material found on albums like Led Zeppelin 3 and 4 but brought more up to date without losing that bright, glowing, atmospheric style that new technology seems to kill these days.” (MetalliVille Webzine, Sheffield, England)

“A good collection of ballad and mid tempo pop rockers, made even better by some outstanding vocalists.” (Melodicrock.com, Australia)

Previous Release: V-Project - New Machine
(DMV Music)

“Solid and unassuming, yet deceptively addictive, this is a hard rock album worth hearing.” (Metalstorm Magazine)

“I like this CD very much, especially ”Somebody Like You” and “ You Don’t Care”. The production is good and the guitar playing great.” (Music Producer Tom Werman - Producer of 23 gold and platinum rock albums. Artists include: Motley Crue, Cheap Trick, Ted Nugent, Molly Hatchet, Blue Oyster Cult, Twisted Sister, and more...)

“The New Machine works! These are great tunes for a backyard barbecue!” (Home of Rock, Das Rock Magazine, Germany)

“All the songs are great with at least half going into immediate rotation on my playlist.” (24Rock.net)

“I think Vaccaro has hit pay dirt with the fittingly titled New Machine. Go ahead take a ride, you’ll love it.” (Metronome Magazine, Boston)

Former Trans-Siberian Orchestra / Mickey Hart Vocalist Tim Hockenberry to Release Self-titled Debut Album of Original Music March 4th 2016

San Francisco, CA - Tim Hockenberry is a versatile multi-instrumentalist singer and songwriter whose voice is reminiscent of Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, and Tom Waits. He is releasing Tim Hockenberry, his self-titled debut album of all original music, worldwide on March 4th, 2016. He is also a gifted interpreter of well-known cover songs, and you only need to hear a few bars of Hockenberry singing I Left My Heart In San Francisco to understand that this is an artist who has a refreshingly authentic approach to great songs.

Tim gained international fame when he performed and made it to the semi-finals (last singer standing) on America’s Got Talent in 2012, where he was a favorite of judge Howard Stern. Stern declared Tim’s semi-final performance of John Lennon’s Imagine, with Tim on the piano accompanied by a cellist, “the most moving we’ve had from a singer in a long time.” The sparse arrangement won Stern over, who gave him a standing ovation and said the singer deserves “a place in the finals.” Sharon Osbourne described his performance as “very true” and “refreshing,” adding, “I thoroughly enjoyed it.” Howie Mandel said he could listen to Tim Hockenberry sing “all night long.”

Tim Hockenberry is best known for his engaging and intimate cover versions of a variety of well known hits, and for some 20 years he’s made his living singing them in concert halls, living rooms, private events, and clubs. It never really mattered what Tim sang; he was beloved by his fans. He hadn't performed his own songs much, except for once-in-awhile occurrences. But that all changed when he met up with vocalist and producer, Natasha Miller.

In 2014 Tim didn’t have a manager, so he and Natasha entered into a formal agreement and began a complete reshaping of his musical direction—moving from covers to more of Tim’s own compositions. “I had heard a couple of Tim’s originals and thought they were ‘hit’ material,” says Natasha. “I asked him if he had more. Not only did he have more, they poured out of him, almost on demand.” Tim began writing more new songs, and they went back and looked at others he’d already done but put aside. With a couple more written by his sons, there were enough for a full-length recording.

The first track, “Me and You,” was written by Tim with his 19-year-old son Maxx on Christmas Day in 2012. “If the Sky Was to Fall” was written with his youngest son Jack, who was 17 at the time. Meanwhile, about the same time Tim and Natasha began working together, she enlisted her brother Justin Miller to play with Tim in his live band and help shape a new and different sound for his shows. That was the turning point—it was Justin himself who did the production, arrangements and played most of the instruments on the entire project... “We all got excited and motivated and started on what would become a year-long project,” says Natasha. “It’s been so much fun!”

Tim’s songs became Justin’s canvas for painting nuances–sounds both bold and subtle that spoke to the personality and content of each song itself. Stories Tim was telling through his songs became more vivid and alive in Justin’s interpretation and imagination. The common threads throughout are Tim’s vocals and writing. Each song charts its own unique journey from the first moment to the end. From pizzicato violin, yodeling, and the klezmer-sounds of the accordion to the speech-like tones of the Hammond B3 and the Deep-South wailing of the slide guitar—the songs travel through many layers of what is categorized these days as Americana. Mostly acoustic, always authentic.

Born on June 13, 1962 in upstate New York, Tim’s family moved a few times during his childhood. He graduated in 1980 from Owatonna High School in rural Minnesota in a small town south of Minneapolis. Tim's musical odyssey began when he sang in the choir, and then taught himself to play the piano while fervently playing the trombone as well. He eventually moved to Northern California and he has been a mainstay in the entertainment industry ever since, having become known for his covers of Sitting on the Dock of The Bay or Christmas by the Bay. Tim Hockenberry splits his time between Charleston, South Carolina and San Francisco, California, where he has become a beloved part of the Bay Area’s rich arts culture.

Over the past few years Tim Hockenberry has shared the stage with many legendary performers including Bonnie RaittSteve Miller, and Robert Cray, to name a few. Tim has established himself as a very compelling and important artist in the Bay Area music scene. In addition to touring with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and with Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead, Tim has performed at high-profile venues all over northern California, including The Fillmore, Great American Music Hall, Bimbo's 365 Club, The Napa Valley Opera House, The Luther Burbank Center for the Performing Arts, Feinstein's at the Hotel Nikko, and 142 Throckmorton Theater. He has also headlined at a multitude of festivals including the Robert Mondavi Summer Concert Series, the Clearwater Jazz Festival, and the Mill Valley Arts Festival.

NEW RELEASE...Maria Muldaur's Acclaimed Debut Album on 200g Vinyl

One of those classic debut albums every singer wants...an absolutely wonderful record from beginning to end...includes the hit "Midnight at the Oasis"

Hollywood, CA - Exhibit Records will release Maria Muldaur's critically acclaimed first solo recording on 200g vinyl. Muldaur's compelling debut features savvy studio vets, talented guests, strong tunes and Muldaur's best-known single "Midnight at the Oasis," a flirty invitation to forbidden pleasure, set in an Arabian Nights desert that falls somewhere between jazz and pop. A well-known music critic declared that "Midnight at the Oasis was probably responsible for the conception of more children than any other song of the 1970's."

The recording appeared in 1973, during a moment of great openness in popular music. Her album became an FM staple, she found just the right balance between her commitment to the traditional material she favors and her ability to interpret it in her own quirky and original recognizable singing style. There's not a weak song, a weak arrangement, or a weak performance anywhere on it. This album has elements of rock, pop, blues, folk, country, bluegrass and even vaudeville and somehow, all the disparate elements blend well to make for a cohesive, remarkably unified album impossible to classify as a whole.

Among the musicians and vocalists appearing on the recordings are Dr. John, Ry Cooder, Andrew Gold, David Grisman, Chris Ethridge, Ray Brown, Richard Greene, Dave Holland, David Lindley, Bettye LaVette, Bill Keith of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys, solo-Beatles drummer Jim Keltner, solo-Beatles bassist Klaus Voorman, and jazz-guitarist Amos Garrett. But the album's greatest moments belong to Maria alone - her vocal gifts defy expression. After a decade of work this debut recording revealed her art as mature, sophisticated, sensual and wise. The songs and performances are sweet, poignant, salacious, intelligent and attractive. The high point may well be Wendy Waldman's "Mad Mad Me," which closes the album with the most hauntingly gorgeous two minutes and fifty-three seconds ever recorded.

The new 200 gram vinyl record is beautifully presented in a sturdy old style tip-on gatefold jacket featuring the original album art work. The popular recording joins an expanding list of high quality vinyl releases being made available from the emergent Exhibit Records. The Hollywood company has rapidly curated an eclectic catalog of classic recordings and is gaining notice for their exquisite mastering, high quality pressings and detail to the fine art of exceptional package design.

Maria Muldaur is simply one of the great singers of all times. She could sing anything and make you love it. For those with eclectic tastes, this is a masterpiece. At the time of its original release Rolling Stone magazine called the record "One of the half-dozen best albums of 1973." What Maria Muldaur did back then and is still doing, is recording excellent and eclectic albums, covering different music genres and displaying formidable musical knowledge - there's a huge love for music in this supremely talented artist.

Pop Singer/Songwriter MatthewK Readies Self-Titled Debut Album for Worldwide Release on May 5th 2015 through Rough and Tumble Entertainment

Princeton, NJ - MatthewK’s self-titled 12 song debut album captures his world-class global pop appeal and will be released physically and digitally on May 5th, 2015, and was recorded and mixed internationally in the USA, UK, and Australia. The album, a mix of Pop and Rock and even an International flavor, was recorded and produced by James M. DiLella at Rough and Tumble Studios and will be released on the Rough and Tumble Entertainment Label in Philadelphia, PA.

Chris Potter at Metropolis Studios in London did mixing for a handful of the songs on the album. Chris is best known for his work with The Verve’s seminal album Urban Hymns (The 17th best selling album in UK history), featuring the classic single Bittersweet Symphony. Chris has also worked extensively with Richard Ashcroft, The Rolling Stones (Steel Wheels, Flashpoint and No Security), U2, Paul McCartney, Blur, The Clash, Yusaf Islam (Cat Stevens), and Keane among others. Grammy Award winning mastering engineer Ian Cooper mastered tracks on the album. Ian has mastered projects by Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Elton John, Kate Bush, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, and Tina Turner among others.

Many other remaining tracks on the album were mixed by producer/mixer Nick Didia at Studio 301 in Sydney and Byron Bay, Australia. Since the early 1990s, Nick has been one of the most successful engineers to date, amassing over 40 million in sales with a variety of artists including Bruce Springsteen and Rage Against the Machine. Some of the other artists Nick has worked with include Train, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots and Incubus.

The track I Love These Days is set to cement MatthewK in the global public consciousness, supported by songs like Aurora, Home (originally a Michael Buble’ song and an international hit), and Only Hope which was sung by Mandy Moore for the film A Walk to Remember, as well as 9 other tracks encompassing a strong, original, commercially sublime debut offering.

Just listen. It all begins there. A voice timeless and powerful, performances engaging and compelling, Matthew is an authentic talent who began singing at just 7 years old and has been performing since the age of nine in the hallways of the American Boychoir School in Princeton, New Jersey.

While at the school Matt came to the attention of instructor James H. Litton, at the time the foremost trainer of young voices in the world. In 2014, the movie Boychoir was released which tells a fictional story based on The American Boychoir School and stars Dustin Hoffman as a character who is loosely based on James Litton himself: that of a mentor who is pushing his student (the film’s protagonist) to be more disciplined and responsible for his craft. Similar to the film, Matthew was a student whose relationship with James was combative at times, often due to Matthew’s rebellious attitude, but James continued to push him to excel. Under Litton’s tutelage, he was soon promoted to soloist, working closely with the finest in the industry and performed at Lincoln Center, Radio City Music Hall, Kennedy Center, The Academy of Music and Carnegie Hall. Matthew graduated from the school as Best Choirboy, and at the ceremony James indicated to the graduating class that he had built the sound of the choir on the young man’s voice.

During his high school years Matthew laid the foundation of his dream of becoming a recording artist. Tired of formal musical education, he set out on his own path to discover his true artistic and musical talents.

Rejecting a traditional career path, he dedicated his life to creating and performing as a singer/songwriter/band leader, crashing and burning in numerous attempts as leader of garage band hopefuls. Undaunted and resolute, his love for pop music and passion for the craft of songwriting has long fueled his every waking moment.

In listening to him sing, one can clearly hear him in a club, theatre, hall, arena, and football stadium as if it has all already happened. His ability to deliver in Spanish and Italian truly underscores the caliber of artist he is. You can close your eyes and ‘hear’ him performing duets with giants of the industry and belonging right there in that moment. Hard Rock Review: California Breed

Release Date: May 19, 2014
Label: Frontiers Records

If you are looking for music to rock out to, then look no further, because California Breed has what you need to get going. With a sound that channels the great bands of the 70s, while bringing a 21st century edge too, California Breed is one hot new band that will get fans of the genre talking with delight over their fiery debut release.

Born out of the ashes of the hard rock group Black Country Communion, California Breed consists of Glen Hughes (bass, vocals) of Deep Purple, Andrew Watt (guitar, vocals), and Jason Bonham (drums), who was recently replaced by Joey Castillo due to Bonham’s other commitments. They have come together to make California Breedand it is one unrelenting rock album. They brought their A game on this and it sure does show in the final product.

“The Way” comes out hard and unforgiving, like being run over by a stamped of wild horses. It is an incredible hard rock song that gives a modern take on the hard rock sound from the 70s. It is all attitude and swagger, making it the premier song on the album. “The Way” is the type of song that will come to mind when you think of California Breed.  Keeping the album going strong, “Sweet Tea” strikes the perfect balance in showcasing the trio’s individual strengths and what happens when it comes together for one fierce song. “Chemical Rain” shows off a heavier and slower sound, and the guitars really shred on this one.

The album’s first single, “Midnight Oil,” is a fantastic, catchy rock song. It has that musical quality that just draws the listener in with great riffs, inspiring vocals, and methodical drumming. But the ending really takes this song to the next level. The guitars are crazy and the drumming is insane, as we hear that the apple did not fall from the tree. California Breed show off their softer side on the beautiful “All Falls Down.” It is a song full of passion that hits deeply. The heavy and melodic “The Grey” gets things rocking again. The song moves swiftly along and really explodes when it hits the animated chorus. “Days They Come” is a visceral song with great energy and mesmerizing vocals and “Spit You Out” is a fun, spirited rock song.

Starting off the last part of the album is “Strong.” It is not my favorite song on here, but it has grown on me with repeated listens. It is a fluid and lively song that some will appreciate. “Invisible” sinks its teeth in deep and early and does not let go. The vocals just soar over everything. It is the type of hypnotic song that will have you singing along without even noticing at first. “Scars” opens with a pretty funky baseline and carries a certain bravado in the vocals that gives it an extra edge. Bringing the album to a close is “Breathe.” The music rises and falls at all the right moments and Julian Lennon’s vocals work quite complementary with Hughes’.

When all is said and done, California Breedis kick-ass rock album from this new band. If you are a fan of hard rock, then I would strongly suggest that you go out and pick this one up. From start to finish, it does not disappoint.  California Breed is one band to keep a close eye on in the future.

4.5/5 Stars
