They were among the progenitors of the progressive rock movement of the 1970s as well as the jam-band scene that arose in the late 1990s. Their sound traveled well to the States, where they enjoyed Top 40 success with “A Tab in the Ocean” (1972) and “Remember the Future” (1973). Nearly 20 albums and a half-century later, the band’s artistic and personal charisma has earned them masses of devoted fans along with their latest album “The Other Side” (2020) which was Number 1 on Amazon Progressive Music.

As they begin the next 50 years of their career, they kick it off with “Journey to the Other Side – Live at The Dunellen Theatre June 10, 2023.” Recorded during the band’s 50th anniversary tour, this release captures the band in all their glory with a 2CD/Blu-Ray set with a 5-camera shoot and multi-track recording. Clocking in at over 2 and 1/2 hours and spanning the band’s entire career with classics like “Remember the Future Parts 1 & 2,” “A Tab in the Ocean,” and many more.

View “Drifting” video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUVH_5kOKKQ

This recording has become a virtual remembrance of Nektar drummer and primary member, Ron Howden, who died suddenly at the ripe old age of 78 on September 29th, 2023. As founding member Derek “Mo” Moore states, “I think you will enjoy being part of Nektar’s 50th extended Anniversary Tour and glad we captured this performance. Rest in Peace Ron.”

The band is currently hard at work on their forthcoming trilogy “Mission To Mars.” The first installment is scheduled to hit in early June to coincide with the band’s tour which kicks off in New Jersey on June 7th.

Tickets for dates: https://nektarsmusic.com/events/

JUN 7: Dunellen Theatre - Dunellen, NJ
JUN 9: Beachland Ballroom - Cleveland OH
JUN 11: Irving Theater - Indianapolis, IN
JUN 12: The Token Lounge - Westland, MI
JUN 13: The Arcada Theatre - St Charles, IL
JUN 15: The Wildey Theatre - Edwardsville, IL (2pm Matinee Show)
JUN 15: The Wildey Theatre - Edwardsville, IL (8pm Show)
JUN 18: Sellersville Theater - Sellersville, PA
JUN 19: Daryl's House - Pawling, NY
SEP 5-8: Nene Valley Rock Festival 2024 - Grimsthorpe, UK

There are a limited number of autographed bundles available while supplies last: https://www.dekoentertainment.com/nektar
Bundle Includes:
• One (1) Nektar "Journey to The Other Side – Live at The Dunellen Theatre June 10, 2023" Double CD
• One (1) Nektar "Journey to The Other Side – Live at The Dunellen Theatre June 10, 2023" Blu-Ray
• One (1) Nektar "Journey to The Other Side – Live at The Dunellen Theatre June 10, 2023" T-Shirt
• One (1) Nektar "Journey to The Other Side – Live at The Dunellen Theatre June 10, 2023" 10x10 Signed Print

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhQydj-xoola2JUDKbY3cljTT2-uFVAkyBUGaK7RFUbutDLgxuyDquhdER3gf3SPVyP_CjFEQIV3jHgrQqdLLqfbK-Ejosy_WZSwBUA7IP_8s_ZOVZH2iL1BYEbaLvp8dNCSZD76YN74626d5D-rO_z6XU2vylYaGAIfwnjqh-SyF0hz4_BUVnIstHieLUr" style="clear: left; Like a starship bound for better worlds, the band, which counted Hawkwind co-founder Nik Turner along with several other Hawkwind alumni among its crew, ventured beyond the darkness that engulfed the planet and reached meteoric heights, being embraced by both longtime Hawkwind fans and newcomers alike.

Now the mighty Hawkestrel is ready to soar once again with a new album coming April 12. Hosting another collection of stellar musicians and heroic “musicnauts,” including one actual space traveler, William Shatner, alongside Simon House, Mick Slattery, Huw Lloyd-Langton, Helios Creed, and lots more, Chaos Rocks seeks to pay tribute to the past, revamping classic songs like “Silver Machine” as well as honoring those who now live among the stars. Just check out the album’s first single, a transformation of Robert Calvert’s “Evil Rock” from his 1981 album with the brilliant Mick Taylor lending his prodigious six-string talents. Since 2016, he has released over 50 titles under his former name and has been heavily influenced by the likes of Badfinger, Big Star, and Toad the Wet Sprocket. “City Walk” is the first single for J.Edmond, which will be released on March 22, 2024, The new single represents the rebirth of a musician by the name of Jebb, who now goes by the name J.Edmond. The track represents the human condition between light and dark, and how those who are creative have to deal with the obstacles that stop them from being themselves. “City Walk” takes listeners on a journey that is fun, but also laced with fears of the unknown, like life itself. The CD and Bandcamp exclusive bonus track were once planned for a Jebb album but fits here very well with its Badfinger laced sound.

Says J.Edmond, “This single first came to me during a trip to Florida in 2022. This was the first time I traveled alone, primarily to meet up with one of my closest friends. We decided to venture out to Walt Disney World for a few days, and at the end of it, we headed over to CityWalk in Universal Studios Orlando to see The All-American Rejects perform at the Hard Rock. I don’t know what it is, but walking around CityWalk, which is like a small marketplace you can explore before entering the Universal theme parks, really struck a chord with me. This is where the song’s name came from. I wrote it in about 20 mins, but it took a full year to really finalize it. The first person I showed the song to was Steve Rodgers, a fellow musician based in Connecticut. He decided to add some great lap steel and bass parts that are, in my eyes, really pertinent to the song’s sound. Soon after, I called in another friend of mine, Los Angeles-based musician A. Michael Collins of Broken Sound (featuring session legend Fernando Perdomo). He would add drum parts and the fuzzy guitar bits to the track. In the end, I sang lead and played acoustic guitar. Creating this song was definitely a learning experience for me as well. As I said, it took well over a year to really get to know the track, and I feel that with well over 50 releases under my belt, this very well might be the work I am most proud of.”

The cover art was a photograph of River Walk in San Antonio by Ivan Iniego Aguiar.

Says J.Edmond, “I plan to work on getting my new moniker out there by doing gigs both in-state and out-of-state, along with my brand new repertoire, J.Edmond & The Old Souls. We came to fruition in February of this year, but this is definitely one of the tightest bands I have ever worked with. Together this extraordinarily talented quartet breathe vicious new life into the song. Rundgren’s vocal performance is nothing short of deliriously demented as he takes on the twisted psyche of King Crimson’s shattered mirror image of modern man. The single is released today on all music platforms to herald the imminent arrival of the full tribute album.

Stream/download the single: https://orcd.co/21stcenturyschizoidman

Drummer Paice recalls “I had the great privilege of seeing Crimson live in London just after the first album was released, a really inventive, wonderful band. We in Deep Purple thought they were really great!”

Set for release on April 19, Reimagining The Court Of The Crimson King unites an astounding mix of musical virtuosos and creative collaborators that’s as eclectic and far-reaching as King Crimson’s own noble cortege. Guests include all of those mentioned above plus current King Crimson vocalist/guitarist Jakko Jakszyk, Joe Lynn Turner, James LaBrie, Marty Friedman, and Carmine Appice. Adding to this stellar lineup are rock and prog giants such as Steve Hillage, known for his work with Gong, and Jah Wobble, the post-punk bass maestro and PIL & Eno collaborator; and the Hawkwind alumni trifecta of Alan Davey, Paul Rudolph, and Nik Turner, infusing the project with a cosmic touch!

This album is not just a tribute; it's a celebration and reinvention of a musical masterpiece, bringing together the past, present, and future of rock music. Ray White’s distinctive, powerful voice was first heard interpreting Zappa’s music in 1976. From that beginning, he became an integral member of Frank’s band through 1984, and can be seen on the DVD recorded the summer of that year in New York, “Does Humor Belong In Music?” A former member of the Edwin Hawkins Singers gospel group, he also brings a solid R&B guitar style to the blend, both as a rhythm player and as a soloist. Looking towards future creative endeavors with Banned From Utopia, Ray is also a gifted writer and lyricist

Robert Martin - vocals, keyboards, saxophone, French horn
Keyboards, horns, and of course, the voice that always made Frank smile, Robert Martin brings it all. Robert (Bobby) Martin joined Frank Zappa in 1981 and sang and played various instruments on every tour from then on, through the final tour in 1988. In addition to the diverse sonic palette Robert brought to the band with his multi-instrumental skills, Zappa relied heavily on Robert’s unique vocal power and range to enhance the variety of musical styles Frank explored in all his performances. In any moment, Frank might switch from heavy metal to classic Doo Wop, or anything in between, and Robert would be right there..

Scott Thunes - guitar, vocals
Scott Thunes played with Zappa’s band from 1981 to 1988, and plays on such albums as “The Man From Utopia”, “Them or Us,” “Broadway the Hard Way,” “You Can’t Do That on Stage Anymore,” “Does Humor Belong In Music?,” “The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life,” “Frank Zappa Meets the Mothers of Prevention,” “Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch,” “Make a Jazz Noise Here,” and “Guitar,” a double-album compilation of Zappa’s live guitar solos. His most prominent bass performance can be heard on Frank Zappa's “Valley Girl,” which peaked at #32 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Robbie Mangano - guitar, vocals
Robbie has performed with Zappa Tribute band Project/Object, playing bass and guitar with members of Frank Zappa’s band, and embarked on his first tour and first overseas gigs through that ensemble. Soon after he would begin touring with more Zappa alumni in The Grandmothers Of Invention. Most recently he has toured with Sean Lennon & Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger.

Jamie Kime - guitar
Jamie Kime has performed and recorded with Dweezil Zappa’s Zappa Plays Zappa project from 2006 until 2012. More recently, he did a European tour with The Banned From Utopia. The album showcases the best of Durant’s unique skill set, an amalgamation of transcultural, jazz-related styles, that gives way to euphoric, universally relatable grooves and soundscapes. A trio recording featuring Durant alongside longtime musical partners Colin Edwin (bass) and Andi Pupato (drums/ percussion), both legends in their own right, this musical jewel showcases rare mastery through individually compelling tracks and comprehensive arcs.

The responsive and fluid interaction of these three collaborators immediately draws listeners in. Created initially as a series of guitar improvisations by Durant, the composer then developed and rearranged the pieces for trio. Grounded musical elements beautifully balance freely improvised aspects, hinting at one of the key ingredients of Durant’s signature, sublime sound. The seamless flow between composition and improvisation leaves the listener in an effortless state of engagement.

Throughout “Momentarily” Durant’s explorative guitar leads the way. His expressive use of fretless guitar on all but one of the tracks “shows he is one of the precious few practitioners on the instrument that elevate it beyond its usual presence as a mere novelty.” (All About Jazz) In addition, his use of guitar synth – in this case playing a modified sample of an Armenian Duduk – adds a breathy counterpoint to his emotionally tinged guitar parts.

Percussionist Andi Pupato (Nik Bärtsch’s Ronin, Andreas Vollenwider, Fractal Sextet) shines throughout with his totally unique hybrid kit comprising both hand drums and conventional drum set. This distinctive collection of timbres emotes the open space of European jazz with considerable Middle Eastern elements that the hand drums reveal alongside Durant’s Fretless guitar. Anchoring the whole process is bassist Colin Edwin (O.R.k., Gaudi, Burnt Belief), with whom Durant has worked extensively over the past 12 years. On “Momentarily” he is playing acoustic basses (upright and fretless acoustic) providing a sonorous low end balancing out the whole picture. His beautifully melodic playing on the opening track “In A Moment” provides especially delightful interaction with Durant and Pupato.

Among the standout tracks on the album is the epic “Rockets on Kyiv.” Originally conceived and recorded on the morning Russia bombed the glass bridge in Kyiv (where Durant, Edwin and Ukrainian singer Inna Kovtun had filmed many scenes in the video for their song “Gannochka”). When Durant steps on the distortion on this one, you can instantly feel the deep emotions he was experiencing that morning. In addition, the one track with fretted guitar (“Bitter Wind”) shows a depth of gratitude towards his Scandinavian musical influences.

“Momentarily” will be available on Bandcamp beginning March 29, 2024, and all streaming services on April 16, 2024.

To purchase: https://jondurant.bandcamp.com/

Alchemy Records
188 SE Spokane St, #2 Portland, OR 97202
Contact: jd@alchemyrecords.com

About Jon Durant
Explorative · Expressive · Transcultural · Texture-driven
Guitarist, composer, and producer Jon Durant is one of the world’s most distinguished proponents of creative, transcultural jazz. With his impressive legacy of collaborative work and highly acclaimed, genre-defying albums, Durant is “one of the reigning masters of what might be called ‘infinitely manipulated atmospheric guitar effects’… [He] sets a standard to be defined by… [with] brilliance and vision.” (All Music) Combining a nuanced and emotive fretless playing style with explorative effects, Durant integrates aspects of jazz, ambient music, progressive rock, and ethnically sourced material in lush, multi-textured melodies. His signature “guitar clouds” create compelling textures and moods over which he brings directionality with enticing riffs and solos. Sought out for his uniquely American aesthetic in a predominantly European style, Durant is a go-to collaborator for multi-genre, improvised music. In partnership with renowned bassist Colin Edwin, Durant has formed the duo Burnt Belief, releasing four albums and creating “elegant, sophisticated music of multiple genres… [that] evolves toward the best of many worlds and still sounds like nobody else… a sonic paradise of the uppermost quality.” (Prog Archives) Durant is also a member of the celebrated Fractal Sextet, with guitarist / composer Stephan Thelen, pianist Fabio Anile, Colin Edwin, and drummers Yogev Gabay and Andi Pupato. Of their debut, All About Jazz commented, “Durant’s guitar is a near-perfect stylistic counter…. he is one of the precious few practitioners on the instrument that elevates it beyond its usual presence.” Durant splits his time between Boston and Portland, Oregon, and frequently travels to Europe for musical projects. As the founder and producer of Alchemy Records and with an extensive discography that includes eleven solo albums, Durant has “delivered pristine music year after year… effortless and sure.” (Art Rockin)

Press inquiries: Glass Onyon PR, PH: 828-350-8158 (USA), glassonyonpr@gmail.com
Glass Onyon PRhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04946486760349179128noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3174735371108375331.post-85463090419707660792024-03-11T15:30:00.005-04:002024-03-11T15:31:31.789-04:00Heavy Metal VinylLP Review: Judas Priest-: Invincible Shield
<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">Release Date: March 08, 2024

nuclear holocaust. Always remember their resiliency and ability to adapt and
carry the heavy metal flag. Invincible
Shield is an excellent heavy metal recording with no
disappointments; every track rocks! This band is on point at all positions,
with incredible guitar work and a rhythm section that keeps the pace from start
to finish. And, of course, Rob Halford is still singing like he was in his 20s.

The artwork on the two LPs' gatefold covers, inner sleeves, and

base for the world on fire that we are seeing these days.

Glen Tipton and Richie Faulkner fighting off health issues is a fine
example of strength in their return to the lineup recording and touring. Both
guitarists are back in all their blazing glory to answer the call again with
fire and brimstone licks.

"Panic Attack" kicks things off on side one of this
two-album platter of 180-gram metal perfection. It is a classic JP
full-throttle opener with great lyrics for our times. They hit the bullseye
musically and lyrically. Halford is as strong as ever. Who would have thought
he would sound this good at his age? He is simply a wonder of humankind.

"The Serpent and the King" has the typical locomotive
rhythm section, driving the lyrics with the force of magma spitting out at the
top of a volcano. Halford hits all the high vocalizations amazingly well.
Tipton and Faulkner make a remarkable duo, a most potent two-pronged
attack.

Side Two opens with the title track, "Invincible
Shield," which features some great melodic guitar runs with a heavy edge.
These riffs push the lyrics to the forefront and deliver the message of
intent.

"Devil in Disguise" has the appropriate sledgehammer
metal to meet the point of the lyrics and the deception of evil that is one of
a kind, preying on your fears. What an astonishing twin-guitar attack!

"Gates of Hell" continues the assault of darkness on
your consciousness, and the lyrics are accurate.
Only the energy and sharp chops of this band of metal gods can sharpen the
blade of the song's lyrics that Halford sets in stone with his voice.

Side three begins with changing thoughts and beliefs with
"Crown of Horns." Is redemption the card now for the lost souls? Is
Halford singing about Jesus on the cross? ("Heavy is the crown of thorns
that rest on his head") It depends on your perspective. The other side of
their typical dark and evil subject matter comes across as a light in the
darkness with that powerful message with superb licks from the two six-string
masters.

"As God is my Witness" brings on rapid-fire riffs as
Halford tells the story of triumph and the destiny of a world at war. He sings,
"I will prevail until the end of days." An optimistic view for only
those who are true warriors indeed. As usual, the music suits the lyrics.

"Trial By Fire" begins, and within a few passing
seconds, the momentum builds as the track explodes into a trail of fire with
the band ablaze and committed to back the lyrics with power and conviction.
Enduring this trial by fire is an innocent person accused of being a liar, as
the words drive home the hell of one unfortunate individual. Halford is
impressive with his vocals!

Side four opens with "Escape From Reality," a track
that ebbs and flows with powerful chops and a testament of truth set to heavy
metal as only Priest can perform. The third verse and the line
"Hallucinations from another worldly place" sounded like Ozzy, and I
was not hallucinating. It is agony escaping reality, an epic track sure to be a
concert favorite.

"Sons of Thunder" is an anthem for all the metal
maniacs. Inspiration for the masses rides the wave of the song as Halford sings
"Let's Ride All Night Sons of Thunder" as the clean riffs pierce your
soul, and you are ready to take that ride. Again, the always fantastic rhythm
section stands tall and proud to support this heavy metal machine like a
locomotive on a mission to a destination.

"Giants in the Sky" closes out this masterpiece of
heavy metal with excellent leads on the guitars and a significant change

surprise before closing out with a clap of thunder with their punishing sound
to a tribute to those giants in the sky.

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif" style="color: #0e101a;">Invincible Shield <span face=""Arial",sans-serif" style="color: #0e101a;">is a solid release, proving that

time. He is one of the few who recorded music in the 50s and 60s that is still alive
and relevant. That point alone should tell you something about the man's
resilience and determination. It tells me a lot.<span face=""Arial",sans-serif" style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;">

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif" style="color: #0e101a;">Girl Friends <span face=""Arial",sans-serif" style="color: #0e101a;">is another winner, his most
recent release with an all-star cast. As you can see by the CD cover, all his
guests are the ladies accompanying him on twelve tracks of blues, rock, and
country-flavored tunes. I enjoyed it from start to finish, and Dion is in fine
form musically and vocally.

Track one begins "Soul Force," an excellent way to
kick off things with the fiery Susan Tedeschi. They both rock the house as Dion
sings, "Superpower stronger by the hour."

"I Aim to Please" with Danielle Nicole is a
country-inflected mover! This one has a great call answer from the duo and is a
real toe-tapper.

"Stop Drop and Roll" with Valerie Tyson features a
strumming acoustic guitar with lots of rhythm and harmonizing. It is a country
pop tune with banjo and excellent electric six-string licks. Some foot-stompin'
country, y'all!

"Do Ladies Get the Blues" with Christine Ohlman &
Debbie Davies asks the question. By all accounts, it is true. The ladies and
Dion bring it home to make you a believer as some stinging electric guitar
heats things to a boil and the bottom end cooks right along with it.

"An American Hero" with Carlene Carter is my favorite
track because of its meaning. Dion sings, "We need an American hero to
stand up for everyone." Never was there a time in our history was that
truer. Carlene Carter was a great choice with her voice, and they punctuated
every word, which gave me chills.

"Don't You Want a Man Like Me" with the soulful Rory
Block and some acoustic slide guitar to get those embers of passion burning.
The rhythm section is rock solid; hard rockin' blues burn the fuel as they sing
"Some Like It Hot."

"Sugar Daddy" with Christine Ohlman's breathy vocals
and steady rhythms merge for another rockin' blues workout. Acoustic and
electric guitars soar!

"Endless Highway" with Randi Fishenfeld features
exceptional bass, with the track deep in Americana roots and country twang.
Dion is in great form.

"I Got Wise," with Maggie Rose starting the vocals, is
the first on the album without Dion leading off. Dion comes in to answer her at
a slow and emotional pace—a very atmospheric track.

"Hey, Suzy" with Sue Foley is a kind of old-fashioned
love song. The duo combination is perfect, with Dion showing that he still has
some range in his vocals. The country and blues-varied guitar lines hit the
bullseye.

"Mama Said" with Shemekia Copeland is soulful, with
Shemekia singing "Listen boy"…as Dion responds. It was another strong
and well-rounded effort by the duo.

"Just Like That" with Joanne Shaw Taylor is a great
closer with smokin' hot guitar lines as they cross the finishing line with
conviction.

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif" style="color: #0e101a;">Girl Friends <span face=""Arial",sans-serif" style="color: #0e101a;">is an eclectic range of artists
providing music and vocals that keep it a satisfying listen from beginning to
end. The booklet accompanying the CD has an excellent write-up from Dion about
the "feminine genius" and how it has surrounded his life. Also, he
adds comments about each artist.

Dion proves once again that age has nothing to do with a great
musician and a singer's capabilities as long as you have the experience,
confidence, and belief in your craft. It is a solid release, and everyone
involved should be proud.

Keith “MuzikMan” Hannaleck-MuzikMan.net Founder

The streets of Berlin. Nourishment and exhaustion. The celestial, moving among us. All of these things might describe (or, more accurately, permeate) Markus Reuter’s latest project – a spontaneous collaboration with Stefano Castagna.

From a strictly Reuterian perspective, “Sea of Hopeless Angels” could be seen as a reaction to Markus’ furious and abrasive work with the free-rock improvisation quartet Anchor & Burden, one of his central priorities during 2022. At the same time, it stems directly from that project (having emerged in the heart of actual band time) and also serves as an intentional sequel-of-sorts to the “Anchor and Burden – Musica 2021” album which, while consisting of solo soundscapes, served as a conceptual introduction to the band. An understanding and acceptance of music as being both fundamental and stabilizing, while also being a grave and sometimes disruptive weight, underpinned both band and solo recording; and also eventually left its imprint on this new work.

The seeds of what would become “Sea of Hopeless Angels” were several unedited “live-in-the-studio” electric touch guitar solos by Markus, recorded at Castle Studios, Germany, 26 July 2022 (during day two of a three-day recording session for the Anchor & Burden band’s ‘Kosmonautik Pilgrimage’). Unusually – especially considering the ferocity of his recent work – Markus mostly selected clean instrumental tones, feeling that after much previous experimentation he’d finally found a way to speak through them musically. From there, the solos ended up in the hands of the album’s mixer, Stefano, and it was there that they underwent a new transformation.

Although Stefano’s connection with Markus goes back to the recording of mixing of Markus’ “TRUCE 2” album in 2021 (and his mixing wizardry also helped to hone the “Mata Atlantica” album), this is the first time that the two of them have collaborated on composition. From his own Ritmo&Blu studios in Pozzolengo, northern Italy, Stefano has created and produced recordings of Italian indie music, film and television soundtracks, dance music and performances for theatre, ballet and visual art exhibitions. However, his true roots are at that point where 1980s art rock intertwines with jazz, Mediterranean music and experimental sound (something reflected in his Flos project with Luca Formentini, with its mixture of invented instruments, found sound and avant-pop songcraft). It is this nexus of inspirations which drives his sympathies with Markus. It informed their work together on “TRUCE 2”, and drew Markus into the same year’s “Mask of Confidence” project (a collaboration between Stefano, Fabio Trentini and Jeff Collier, which hearkens back to the keystone art-pop work of Mick Karn and Japan).

Inspired to bring out his own palette of sounds, Stefano took on this set of Reuter solos and produced instinctive counterpart work, gradually building up to become a sympathetic one-man orchestra. “Listening through, I perceived a very free and sinuous narrative, undulating between some slow meditative sections and some faster, rhythmic moments. I have tried to support this narrative throughout, keeping his performances always in the foreground, highlighting the most outstanding parts, adding sounds and instruments when needed (my own vocals, samples, bass or synth sounds and electronic variations added in the mixing process). It's just as if I let Markus tell his story and let it guide me throughout, without too much thinking.

“As I listen to the final result, I realize that I was playing out the lesson I learnt from two records that were pivotal in my artistic education, Fripp/Summers’ ‘I Advance Masked’ and Eno/Byrne’s ‘My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts’, famously conceived and brought about by a duo rather than a band.”

Markus concurs with this particular connection, adding, “the vibe quite strongly reminds me of the instrumental half of David Sylvian’s ‘Gone to Earth’ album.”

The music on “Sea of Hopeless Angels” is also directly inspired by Wim Wenders’ celebrated “Damiel and Cassiel” films – “Der Himmel über Berlin” (“Wings of Desire”) and “In weiter Ferne, so nah!” (“Faraway, So Close”) – in which angels hover above pre- and post-unification Berlin and are gradually, inexorably and transformatively drawn towards the lives of its human inhabitants. Although the chosen titles of several of these pieces refer directly to characters from the films, the music remains mysterious; and reluctant to draw a straightforward picture.

Stefano’s initial responses and reactions to the music also informed the selection of the album’s visual component – although, as opposed to his instinctive musical choices, the choice of cover art in particular was much more deliberate and considered.

All of the pieces on “Sea of Hopeless Angels” feature video accompaniment drawn from the Italian painter and video-artist Aldo Grazzi archives, with two of them (including the currently viewable title track) also accompanied by live-in-the-studio footage of Markus’ original performances.

Markus: “What I love about this record in particular is that it is the marriage of spontaneous creation and considered composition. The video that shows me playing in the studio is wondrous because of that. It would be impossible to play like I do if it was pre-planned/composed.”

Track listing:

1 Damiel 5:30
2 Comfort and Trust 4:37
3 Sea of Hopeless Angels 5:44
4 Angels Fall 6:48
5 Blood Gold 8:27
6 Ghost World 4:42
7 Cassiel 5:59

Markus Reuter: Touch Guitars® S8, Live Looping

Stefano Castagna: Synths, Samples, Bass, Voice, Percussion, Treatments

Markus’ parts recorded by Arno Jordan at Castle Studios on July 26, 2022
Stefano’s parts recorded and album mixed at Ritmo&Blu Studios, Dec. 2022 - Jan. 2023
Mastered by Lee Fletcher
Produced by Markus Reuter and Stefano Castagna
Video art by Aldo Grazzi, 1983
Cover design and layout by Bernhard Wöstheinrich
Distributed by Flatiron Recordings

To purchase: https://markusandstefano.lnk.to/seaofhopelessangels

For more information:
markusreuter.com / ritmoeblu.com

Press Inquiries: Glass Onyon PR, PH: 1-828-350-8158, glassonyonpr@gmail.com
Glass Onyon PRhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04946486760349179128noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3174735371108375331.post-36772290354731835312024-02-22T16:19:00.000-05:002024-02-22T16:19:54.295-05:00Rock Guitar Hero STEVE STEVENS Explores The Dark Side Of Progressive Rock On New Single “Darkest Hour” With Supergroup THE PROG COLLECTIVE, Preview Haunting New Album!

Album features performances by Steve Morse, King Crimson violinist David Cross, GnR guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, and keyboard legend Patrick Moraz plus members of Weather Report, Utopia, Angel, Soft Machine, Gong, and more!

Los Angeles, CA – As longtime guitarist and co-writer for the powerhouse rock hitmaker Billy Idol, Steve Stevens is widely celebrated as a master of composing forceful, electrifying rock melodies that balance their intensity with an undeniable mainstream appeal. It’s that melodic sensibility matched with an impressive technical mastery that has made Stevens one of the most sought after collaborators in music today. Recently, Stevens accepted an invitation to contribute to the new album from The Prog Collective and the result is one of the purest expressions of Stevens’s creativity ever captured.

For the uninitiated, The Prog Collective, founded and helmed by producer/multi-instrumentalist and famed bassist for Yes Billy Sherwood, has united some of the finest musicians of rock, jazz, metal, pop and everything in between since its founding in 2012. The group’s newest studio effort, entitled Dark Encounters, takes a deliberate turn toward a more brooding and melancholic musical path, filled with haunting ambience and eerie melodic passages. All of this makes Stevens the perfect partner for an exploration into the darker side of prog rock. The band formed in 2015 and features lead singer Joy Pratt, who is also the main songwriter, often humming bass lines into her husband & bassist Randy’s ear. Randy Pratt is best known for his work with The Lizards, Cactus and Ruffyunz.

Joy and Randy write the lyrics together. When guitarist Pat Klein noticed the collection of catchy gems the married couple had assembled, he came on board without a second thought. Pat’s voice blends sweetly with Joy. Add perfect pop percussionist Phil Weiss and there was the Joyous sound!

Pat, a world class engineer, and Randy, owner of a world class recording studio, assured the record’s quality (both were members of classic rock legends The Lizards). Pat’s knack for arranging put the finishing touches on this 43-minutes that sounds like a greatest hits collection.

The band did a video themselves in their studio “on the cheap.” Next step is a big production video.

Joy wrote a happy, feel-good record for a troubled world. Released across all formats on December 1, the album represents a culmination of the band's collective artistry. With the steadfast collaboration of esteemed guitarist James Stevenson (renowned for his work with The Alarm, Gen X, The Cult) and seasoned bassist Peter Rizzo, along with the return of acclaimed producer Peter Walsh, known for his instrumental role in crafting the band's classic '80s albums, X - Love Death Sorrow delivers a compelling blend of original compositions and captivating cover songs. This latest offering stands as a testament to the band's enduring legacy and serves as one of the most formidable additions to their extensive discography.

One of the most popular tracks on X, “Serpent Queen,” is also one of the album’s darkest and most haunting. An original written by Aston and Rizzo, “Serpent Queen” draws inspiration from ancient depictions of dangerously enchanting females with such beguiling beauty that it threatens the very life of the unfortunate beholder. Appropriately, the band is releasing a lyric video for the track today, the day after Valentine’s Day, offering a bit of a contrast to the rosy depiction of love celebrated on that day.

Watch the video: https://youtu.be/u1aHEnwzNTo

But that's not all! Jay Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel is thrilled to reveal a major announcement: they will be embarking on a cross-country US tour alongside The Alarm and Belouis Some, set to kick off in May. This highly anticipated tour promises to be a must-see event for fans of both bands, offering a unique opportunity to experience their electrifying live performances in venues across the nation. See below for ticket information or go to See https://genelovesjezebel.co.uk/ or https://www.facebook.com/OfficialGeneLovesJezebel:

May 01 2024 - New Orleans, LA - House of Blues TICKETS
May 02 2024 - Austin, TX - Emo’s TICKETS
May 03 2024 - Houston, TX - House of Blues TICKETS
May 04 2024 - Ft. From New York originally, he now resides in Los Angeles. He began his musical odyssey with the study of classical violin at the age of six. He moved on from there to the drums and guitar, eventually settling on the piano, with which he could more fully realize and express all the music flowing through him.

Influenced by Surrealism, The Beat Poets, The Firesign Theatre, and Frank Zappa, in particular. Larry also developed theatrical and comedic skills. This led him to recording and performing with Zappa alumni, guitarist Steve Vai. You can hear Larry’s stream of consciousness performance art piece “Little Pieces Of Seaweed”, on Steve Vai’s CD “Flex-Able Leftovers”.

An aficionado of Prog Rock as well, Larry helped co-write “The Emperor’s Clothes” with Alan and Neal Morse of Spock’s Beard, for their 2010 CD release of Spock’s Beard X.

Larry’s extensive musical explorations throughout the years have helped him become very well versed in a variety of genres including classical, jazz, progressive rock, ambient soundscapes, musical theater, and film scores. He is best known for his powerful and intensely personal solo piano work, balancing technical virtuosity with raw emotional expression.

In March of 2023, Larry released his long-awaited debut album for solo piano entitled “Kindred Souls”. His follow up album entitled “Vertical Realms” was released in March of 2024.

Says Larry, “The album title, ‘Vertical Realms,’ and the music created for it, was inspired by my lifelong odyssey on the Spiritual path and how the fruit of these experiences have so beautifully informed matters of the heart, mind, and soul for me. My Spiritual walk is the most important thing to me in this life and music is the gift I was given to express it!”

Unlike his first album “Kindred Souls,” which was a work for solo piano, this time out stylistically there is a mix of Symphonic Prog, Electronic Prog, lyrical acoustic guitar, solo piano, Jazz/World Music, and an ambient soundscape meditation.

Each piece represents and expresses a particular spiritual exploration and its effect on me internally, whether it be Native American Shamanism, Zen Buddhism in its various forms, Hinduism particularly represented by the writings of Paramahansa Yogananda, and ultimately Larry’s chosen path of Christianity.

Larry explains, “One example would be my piece ‘The Shaman’s Path.’ It was directly inspired by my apprenticeship with a Native American Indian Shaman in the California desert. I was a young man at the time and honored that this 80-year-old Medicine Man would want to teach me his ways. Another example is my piece ‘The Narrow Way.’ It was inspired by the Grace and teachings of Jesus Christ, of whom I am a follower. Especially in the areas of loss and forgiveness.”

Larry wrote, played, recorded, mastered, and produced this album in his recently upgraded home studio.

“My best work happens when I get out of the way of the Creative force, if you will, and allow the music to flow through me instantaneously,” says Larry. “Most of the tracks were written in this way, some almost completely realized at the outset.”

Album Tracks:
1. That is what has happened to premier guitar player Steve ‘Deacon’ Hunter this year.

The last time Steve sang on any recording was back in 1977 when he released “Swept Away,” the song was called “Sea Sonata” and he was never really happy with it.

But, after starting a new album at the beginning of 2023, he was working on an arrangement of “Back Door Man” when it crossed his mind that he could sing it, and that thought changed the direction of the whole album!

“The Deacon Speaks” now has him singing on eight tracks plus two instrumentals. Consisting of five covers and five original compositions, this is a bluesy, moody, vibe drenched collection with Hunter’s voice exuding a pinch of Dr John mixed with Tom Waits. A voice that, like his guitar playing, has character, insight and experience. His playing continues to shine with tone, dynamics, skill and above all, space.

Don’t let Steve’s incredible history in Rock and Roll with Lou Reed, Alice Cooper and Peter Gabriel mislead you, his love of Blues, both Classic and Contemporary, is still running through his veins.

“This is a wonderful piece of work!” - Bob Ezrin

Track list
Back Door Man (Willie Dixon) 4.44
Tiresome Blues (Steve Hunter) 5.07
Independent Soul (Karen Hunter) 3.40
The Ballad of John Henry Gates (Steve Hunter) 4.45
Annabel’s Blues (Steve Hunter) 2.30
Up from the Skies (Jimi Hendrix) 5.12
Sweet Jane (Lou Reed) 4.53
Waiting on a Friend (Rolling Stones) 4.45
Who is He and What is He to You (Bill Withers) 4.19
In a Lonely Place (Steve Hunter) 4.46

To purchase: https://stevedeaconhunter.bandcamp.com/album/the-deacon-speaks

For more information:
http://www.stevehunter.com/
https://www.facebook.com/steve.hunter.54

Press inquiries: Glass Onyon PR, PH: 828-350-8158 (USA), glassonyonpr@gmail.com
Glass Onyon PRhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04946486760349179128noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3174735371108375331.post-80819653206492229792024-02-09T16:01:00.000-05:002024-02-09T16:01:46.654-05:00Prog Ensemble Circuline Releases Official Video For “Tempus Horribilis”

Prog ensemble Circuline’s 2024 “C.O.R.E.” Virtual Tour began Friday, January 12th, 2024, and will consist of 57 events in 48 weeks, with Single releases, Lyric videos, Official videos, “Behind the Scenes” videos, and Livestream Q&A events where the band is able to connect with their fans around the world.

Says keyboardist Andrew Colyer, “With this international virtual tour, we have two goals: 1.) We want to get our music exposed to as many people as possible, to continue to grow our fan base worldwide. 2.) We want to deepen our relationships with the fans who are the most passionate. Releasing singles, lyric videos, and Official Videos accomplishes the first goal, and by doing these in-depth, ‘Behind the Scenes’ videos, we accomplish the second goal. Packaging everything together into a single 12-month celebration of the new album will hopefully capture more attention for future opportunities for live performing and touring, with this fantastic new lineup. For this first Official Video for “Tempus Horribilis” since it’s the lead single off the album, we really wanted to present ourselves in a new way, as a reinvigorated band, with new members and a new sound. We simply wanted people to see who we have evolved into. Producing this cinematic performance music video was the best thing that we could think of, so that fans, industry professionals, booking agents, and festival promoters could see us in a new light.”

Watch:
“Tempus Horribilis” Official Video: https://youtu.be/E1rQyWs3KyI
“Tempus Horribilis” Lyric Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEKcoiPXccQ
“Story Behind the Song” [Season 3, Episode 1]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1XV8xPR9Ro
“Gear Behind the Music” [Season 3, Episode 1]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bmsr4C9LPys

Says Andrew about the new video, “I had worked with Don Chaffin of DCity Productions twice before, with the progressive metal band Awaken. Don and his team are amazing, so I knew that they would do a great job of capturing our personalities, as well as the intensity of our music, and translate that with the editing into something cinematic that we could be proud of. We got the entire band here for a week in August 2023, and shot six Official Music Videos in five days! For this particular video, we chose to shoot outside in an industrial area, and it was super hot and sunny in the middle of the afternoon, and right when we were filming and sweating it out, a big storm appeared, with tons of wind and clouds, and we thought that nature was going to overtake us! Luckily it created a really dramatic background to go with the song and the music. The rest of the videos for this 2024 CORE Virtual Tour are being produced in other creative ways. We’ve had so much fun creating all of the videos for this Virtual Tour - we’ve been ‘on location; in train stations, on rivers, in parking lots, and on soundstage studios. This has been a lot of work, and a ton of fun! We hope the fans enjoy it. Please watch the videos, like, and comment! We want to hear from you - what do you think? If you like it, please share across your own social platforms. We hope to see you on the Livestream Q&A calls!”

Six years in the making, Circuline’s new album “C.O.R.E.”, released on the Inner Nova Music label on Friday, September 20th, 2024, will be available as an album of eight tracks available in a gatefold digipak CD, with an eight-page booklet of lyrics and liner notes. Released as a limited-edition CD from Y&T Music, “Gwent Gardens” includes 18 newly discovered home demos, many of them songs that were never recorded or released by either Badfinger or the group’s earlier incarnation, The Iveys. The album will also be available on all streaming services.

Recorded between 1966 and 1972 with guitar or piano accompaniment, the songs on “Gwent Gardens” are remarkably tuneful blueprints for what might have been. Often double tracking his vocals, Pete also overdubbed additional instruments onto the tracks, fleshing out his vision for what the final Iveys or Badfinger tracks would sound like.

The first act signed to the Beatles’ Apple Records label in 1968, Badfinger – through Pete Ham’s songwriting brilliance – scored massive global hits with “Day After Day,” “No Matter What” and “Baby Blue.” Co-written by Pete and his bandmate Tom Evans, “Without You” became an enduring classic, topping the charts in versions by Nilsson, Mariah Carey and others.

Among the many gems on “Gwent Gardens” is Pete’s soulful solo demo for “Take it All,” which would become the opening track on Badfinger’s masterpiece, the 1971 “Straight Up,” produced by George Harrison and Todd Rundgren.

Produced with the blessing of the Pete Ham Estate, the “Gwent Gardens” project began with the late Dan Matovina, the musicologist and historian whose book “Without You” is regarded as the definitive Badfinger biography.

Matovina produced several albums of Pete Ham demos. Before his death in 2023, Matovina marveled to a close friend about the treasure trove of material still unreleased. “I can’t believe,” he said, “there are still so many great Pete Ham songs that no one has heard yet.” With the release of “Gwent Gardens,” those great songs referenced by Dan will now be a permanent part of Pete Ham's legacy.

2023 also saw the release of a special Pete Ham tribute album, “Shine On – A Tribute to Pete Ham.” The album featured 35 artists covering all of Pete’s compositions recorded by Badfinger. Among the artists paying tribute to Pete are Shelby Lynne, Dan Baird, Melanie, Mary Lou Lord, Wreckless Eric & Amy Rigby, Dennis Diken, Stan Lynch & The Speaker Wars, Amy Allison and many more. The album benefited the Southeast Florida branch of Mental Health America and is still available for a limited time.

THE SONGS
1. Indeed, the album is in some ways part concept album, part autobiography. Its leadoff and title track expresses the overarching theme best, delving into the harsh realities of fame and terrible tragedies that often accompany the relentless pursuit of stardom in Tinseltown.

Now, fans can experience the album’s narrative in video form as “Hollywood Lie” the video is released today. The video tells the all-too-familiar tale of a young starlet whose aspirations are met with disillusionment, crushed under the weight of Hollywood's unforgiving facade. Through haunting melodies and evocative lyrics, Missing Persons vocalist Dale Bozzio paints a vivid picture of the trials and tribulations faced by those who dare to chase their dreams in the city of angels.

Working in collaboration with Industrialism Films director Vicente Cordero, Bozzio draws from personal experiences and universal themes to craft a profound visual/audio experience that serves as a stark reminder of the fleeting nature of fame and the sacrifices often made in its pursuit. Bozzio’s cameo at the video’s conclusion suggests that there is both healing and hope to be found even after the cameras have stopped rolling and the audience has gone home.

Watch the video: https://youtu.be/t-FKSFh3_NU

Hollywood Lie is without a doubt the finest Missing Persons record since their ‘80s heyday. The visionary album features production from Adam Hamilton (William Shatner / L.A. Guns) and performances by Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens and The Knack's Niles Prescott. If you’re metal giant Thor, you release a new album that simultaneously looks forward and backward, celebrating the past and venturing into the uncharted future. Ride Of The Iron Horse puts Thor back in the saddle for another barnstorming metal album that marks 5 decades of metal dominance for the veteran musician. Alongside new compositions such as the rousing “5-0 Let’s Go,” the defiant “Shields Up” and the poignant ballad “No Time For Games” are some unreleased gems from Thor’s early years in the late ‘70s through the ‘80s that complete the circle of this spectacular album.

To celebrate the forthcoming release, today Thor releases the first single, the heavy title track, “Ride Of The Iron Horse,” that brings a hint of country music to the metal god’s electrifying repertoire. Featuring some stellar guitar work and production from cohort Kevin Stuart Swain, the single is a testament to Thor’s enduring legacy as both an artist and an inspirational figure for generations of metal musicians. Check out the single and the lyric video with the links below!

Watch the lyric video: https://youtu.be/gRGHMo8SWvU
Stream/download the single: https://orcd.co/thor_rideoftheironhorsesingle

Thor reflects on this new album saying “There's a lot of life left in this Iron Horse. It seems the 50 years went by in a flash. From Keep The Dogs Away to Ride Of The Iron Horse, there have been the highest of highs and sometimes the lowest of lows. But I kept riding through it all. The greatest moments I have had were the incredible people I have met during my tours or correspondence online. The Thor Korr! They made it all worthwhile. For that, I thank you all. Keep riding the great white plaines!”

Ride Of The Iron Horse, the album, is set for full release on March 22 and will be available on both CD and vinyl. In a nod to the vibrant visuals that have always accompanied Thor's music, the album features original art design by internationally renowned comic book artist Timo Wuerz. With his dynamic illustrations, Wuerz captures the essence of Thor's larger-than-life persona, bringing a visual dimension to the sonic onslaught.

Buy the CD/Vinyl: https://cleorecs.com/store/?s=Ride+of+the+Iron+Horse&post_type=product
Pre-order/pre-save the digital: https://orcd.co/thor_rideoftheironhorsealbum

Fans eager to experience Thor's magnificent stage presence firsthand will have the opportunity to do so as he embarks on a tour this March, joined by special guests Joecephus & The George Jonestown Massacre. When the chorus hits, vocalist Emanuela Hutter’s distinctively powerful voice shines through and elevates the track from mere melodic rocker to an electrifying piece of punk-infused power!

Bandmate Oliver Baroni shares high praise for Hutter’s performance on the track, saying “‘Sometimes Late At Night’ is one of those songs that could only be by Emanuela. Completely unencumbered by genre or expectations. And ultimately that is pure Rock’n’Roll. Where family trauma and punk and art collide.”

Be sure to check out the thrilling video the band shot for the single that both enhances and expands the listening experience.

Watch the video: https://youtu.be/50D-S2jwids

Stream the single: https://orcd.co/sometimeslateatnight

Back In Time is THME’s tenth studio album and the first new album to be released through their new U.S. label partner, Cleopatra Records, a move that’s sure to bring legions of new fans into the band’s already burgeoning audience. The album finds the band’s creative duo, bassist Oliver Baroni and Hutter, flexing their artistic muscles and incorporating influences from ‘60s garage to surf-punk to psychobilly and beyond with a confidence and maturity that comes with 20+ years of playing. Look for the album to be available everywhere on CD, digital and vinyl starting February 9!

Order the CD/vinyl: https://cleorecs.com/store/?s=the+hillbilly+moon+explosion+back+in+time&post_type=product

Pre-order/pre-save the digital: https://orcd.co/thme_backintime

TRACK LIST:
1.
