Nostalgic and calming
– this London-based act exudes infectious energy and charm in their fusion of
upbeat electronica and indie pop to deliver a style full of visceral and

Female fronted electronic
pop group Kid Cupid explore internal conflicts with their latest single ‘Broken
Down’. The electro act fuses soul, electronic and indie rock to form an
infectious style like no other.

‘Broken Down’ here:
The
quartet captures the atmosphere and attitudes of society, focusing less on
relationships but rather on the wider picture, acting as thought provoking
social commentaries. Their unique outlook on life is represented in the feisty
single ‘Broken Down’, about someone fighting back and making a change for the
better. From the songs hauntingly slow build to its defiant crescendo, it takes
us on a journey of self-betrayal to discovery full of driving beats and
swelling cello.
Although
drawing comparisons to London Grammar
and Chvrches, Kid Cupid focus on
backing vocals that compliment lead vocalist Laura Shaw’s strong voice. Gang
vocals are also used in many of their tracks, whereby the band layer their
vocals together, creating an enchanting sound. Geordie singer, Laura Shaw, is
also a huge advocate for equality in the industry and feels very strongly about
current attitudes worldwide towards gender divides.
From The Police, to

As the singer explains: ‘Hold Me Once More’ is the first song I ever
wrote in English, 3 years ago. It talks about the relationship between me and
my dad during my childhood and the lack of love and communication I perceived within
it.
In
the lyrics of this tune I am quite straight forward, telling him what I have
been through, which I never had the courage to do in person.’
The single follows Andrea’s previous emotive electro-pop
single ‘I’ll Take Care of Myself’.
Both tracks will appear on the singer’s new
EP Soultrip, which tackles an array of personal topics such as Andrea’s relationship with his father, exploring
his bisexuality, as well as overcoming his experiences with vitiligo.
‘As the title
explains’ states Andrea, ‘it’s a
journey into the deepest corners of my soul, starting with the relationship
with my dad, going into the very first time I fell in love with a guy, to my
first experience in a gay relationship to the relationship with my ex best
friend (actual girlfriend now). The progression of concepts for the EP is:
absence, lust, apathy, awareness and resolution.’
'Circus' is a perfect example of the juxtaposition of emotions that music can express all at once. In this case it's her soft vocal tone describing a high energy and overwhelming circus atmosphere whilst a luscious production lays underneath her. The combination of these things lead to a dreamy and almost meditative state of mind whilst you listen.
UK alternative pop trio The Hallows gear up for the release of their debut album with this brand new hypnotic single ‘Element’.
As the group explains: ‘element was one of the first songs recorded and it helped to set the overall tone of the album. It was written as a positive and uplifting song about looking up to someone you love and the profound influence they can have on your life’.
Championing their own very unique sound, The Hallows are an enchanting concoction of Kate Bush, Muse, Portishead and Tori Amoswith their own individual dreamy essence thrown in.
The group’s eclectic sound is a result of the band members’ individual musical meanderings. Sarah has played as a backing vocalist/keyboard/Glockenspiel for HafdÃs Huldsupporting the likes of Paolo Nutini, Mika and Bloc Party at festivals as large as Glastonbury and SXSW. Joe meanwhile has supported notorious cult pornographic band Rock Bitch (a band renowned for rarely sporting support acts). He and Sarah have also shared the stage with Ronan Keatingplaying a number of television performances.
Meeting at university, the band shared a house together, in which third band member Dave subjected the group to strict drinking game rules, whilst also ensuring they all ate proper meals (now holding the unofficial title of ‘band chef’).
Sarah has played the role of Snow White whilst working at Disneyland – several elements of this fantasy world clearly making their way into the mystical sound of ‘Element’. As a child, Sarah also lived by a zoo and was kept often awake by roaring lions (the lions would often set the wolves off too, which sounds absolutely terrifying!)
Since forming, the group have been hands on with all aspects of their music including coming up with video concepts, artwork, set design, production and blogging.
Their upcoming album Of Time and Tides is out August 29thand the single ‘Element’ is out July 4th
The group explain: ‘The album is about life, relationships and how things can change over time. The album was written in the spirit of a bygone era because we wanted to encapsulate elements within all our lives that have influenced us both musically and personally. Sarah draws inspiration for the lyrics from the elements because they represent the never ending cycle of life and time in which we exist for a moment. We have combined these influences to create an album that displays our love for atmospheric instrumentation, lush melodies and, hopefully, pop songs you will want to sing along to.’
Swedish Alternative Metal band 'We Are The Catalyst' are teasing their new album 'Elevation' by releasing another amazing single 'Delusion'. Due for release on the 12th of July are most definitely set to stun the industry on the 2nd of September. The most striking elements of the track are, first and foremost, Cat Fey's immense voice that is supported by one of the thickest and heaviest guitar timbres you will ever hear. The combination of these and the overall mixing of the track creates a hugely empowering aura with a gravitas paralleled by none. It is clearly a fitting follow up to the band's first album Monuments; released in 2014.
'Delusion' is a worthy and powerful successor to the bands previous chart success which they scored with a cover of Swedish House Mafia’s “Don’t You Worry Child” which the band released in aid of The Fostering Network.
Everything about We Are The Catalyst screams uniqueness. How many bands are so driven that their second ever show ends up being performed on the other side of the planet in Beijing China. Everything from their album production to video direction is done by the bands members themselves. The pinnacle of their combined love for music has to be that lead singer Cat and guitarist Kenny have a daughter together called Decibelle, who they raise in their hometown of Varberg, Sweden.
The bands amazing rise and critical acclaim in the last 12 months alone have seen the stunning 4 piece We Are The Catalyst complete a 10 day tour of china playing various shows and festivals, playing Bloodstock alongside bands such as Trivium, Sabaton and Within Temptation. The band also had their first UK headline tour following a support slot for Delain.Adding to their early and extremely impressive accolades they performed at Planet Rockstock as well as The Darknessand FM and Rival Sons where WATC headlined the second stage on the Saturday evening.

Never Be The Same’ is the latest fun upbeat
swing single from rising Texas artist Andy Meadows set to appear on his
upcoming album Modern Day Crooner.
Accompanied by a vibrant 9 piece band, Andy delivers a
swanky crooning voice powerful enough to compete with the likes of Harry Connick Jr., Michael Buble and Frank Sinatra.
Steel guitar and fiddles meanwhile add a country vibe that harks back to Andy’s
roots.
Lyrically, the song centres around being love-struck.
Andy explains the inspiration behind it: ‘I fell in love with the new girl at work and it had been years since
I’d felt that way and I’d forgotten how wonderful and terrible falling in love
can be, the sleepless nights the anticipation of a phone call or text, then
analyzing what each text really means and how quickly or slowly you should
respond, wondering if you should kiss her or shouldn’t kiss her, trying to play it cool when you
see her even though it’s probably obvious that you’re madly in love with her.
You know, the usual stuff.’
Growing up in a country radio station owned
by his father, the singer developed his interest in music at an early age. He
started writing songs at the age of 16 and originally had plans to pursue a
career as an opera singer winning his way into Texas Tech University as a vocal
performance major. However, knowing opera wasn’t his real passion, he later
transferred to South Plains College to study commercial music.
Andy is 6ft5in tall and was recently invited
to the Dallas Tall People’s Club. ‘I never went but I find it really odd that there’s
a club made up of people and the only thing they have in common is that they’re
all tall. I guess they just sit around and talk about where they buy their
pants.’
Young Malak's music is an honest rendition of how accurately music expresses an artist's personality and experiences. Reminiscent of the sounds of Tyler the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Flatbush Zombies and Joey Badass, The Virginia Beach phenomenon expertly communicates his experiences of self discovery after having a severe phase of writers block and self disbelief. The outpouring of emotions embedded into the mixtape are sure to make you experience thoughts and feelings that you never felt music could evoke inside of you.
Young Malak talks about his lyrics: ‘One point in my life I was lost stuck trying to figure myself out as well as my self-purpose and the more I searched inside myself I began to overtime breakdown my thoughts and feelings to help me remember me. The more you understand your own self the more you will understand this world, and if you can understand this world you realise everything in the universe is one.’
His performance at the Shaggfest of 2015 communicated his message through his performance and we urge you to see him perform live.
Young Malak is a personification of passion, with activities other than music including spinning poi fire, meditating, enjoying nature, reading spiritual books and indulging in the creative benefits of THC from the well known herb oregano.
Sporting
some hypnotically left-field beats and a vivid introspective rapping style
reminiscent of artists like Tyler, the
Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Flatbush Zombies and Joey Badass, Virginia Beach artist
Young Malak is set to be the alternative hip hop scene’s next big star.
Set to
release his upcoming mixtape The
Messenger on April 21st, he has released this promo video previewing two
tracks from the mixtape ‘The Messenger’ and ‘Avoid the Vortex’.
Watch the video here:
Title track
‘The Messenger’ is a dark outpouring of feelings set to a spacey beat, whilst
‘Avoid the Vortex’ sees the rapper playing impressively with his flow over a
grimy sawtooth-synth beat. The visuals are fittingly trippy.
Young Malak explains the source of
his introspective lyrics: ‘One point in
my life I was lost stuck trying to figure myself out as well as my self-purpose
and the more I searched inside myself I began to overtime breakdown my thoughts
and feelings to help me remember me. The more you understand your own self the
more you will understand this world, and if you can understand this world you
realise everything in the universe is one.’
The rapper is a member of the Virginia Beach collective The Keys.
He credits the group for taking him out of a dark place: ‘during the time period it seemed almost as if I was dead because
I felt I was not living. Livingmeans growing and I
felt I was stagnant as well as having extreme writers block for two years. Once
I broke
myself
down to my roots, overtime I began to get rid of the demons and become me
again. It was almost like an immediate shift of energy again as the keyz were
sparked and reborn as we all just needed some time to grow and figure out more
of ourselves and the environment around us.’
As well a
music, Young Malak’s passion’s include spinning poi fire, meditating, reading
spiritual books, comedy movies, being out in nature, trying new foods and ‘smoking A LOT of THC/herbs’.
60s rock single with a modern indie twist out May 6th
Pink Fireball are a raw, upcoming four-piece with energy to burn and a genuine flair for song writing. Based on a contemporary indie foundation, their sound is embellished with flowing psychedelic aspects from the 60s which give them a uniquely fresh edge.
New single ‘Turn Around’ is out May 6th and perfectly showcases this blend of the old and the new. It all started with an infectious guitar riff and grew from there into the off kilter indie treat it has become. Also worthy of note is the horn section – not common in the rock genre in recent years, the band took inspiration from retro movie soundtracks such as Mission Impossible, James Bond and Batman to add this extra flavour to the tune.
The animated video is a superb companion to the track as it takes a trip through 60s sci-fi and beyond – you can check out both the track and the clip below.
The video itself is yet another fine representation of the band’s
outlook and creativity. Created on construction paper, it was developed through
painstaking stop motion. It took hours to create the few minutes of footage for
the video, which typifies the dedication and attention to detail Pink Fireball
are capable of.
‘Turn Around’ sets a high standard for a band who have the potential to
go a long way in the music industry. And with an album being recorded in
London, 2016 is likely to represent a huge step forward for Pink Fireball – a
band who certainly deserve wider acclaim if their high level of creativity and
wit is anything to go by.

Japanese Fighting Fish, four lads who anchor their boat in London, are bringing fun back to rock with their electrifying new album ‘Swimming with Piranhas’, plunging us knee-deep into ferocious riffs then pulling us out again with soaring vocals from frontman Karlost.
‘Swimming with Piranhas’ doesn’t sound like a great plan for the average diver but Japanese Fighting Fish jump right in and live to tell the tale. This album nibbles away at any possible preconceptions of the band until an epic creature with an unnerving undercurrent is left. The album title comes from the real life wild experiences of Karlost and drummer Sweetman in Ecuador whilst staying with a Quechan tribe when they took a dip in the Amazon River. After their excursion, the boys did a Lep Zep III move and retreated to the countryside to channel all they had learnt from the ‘tribal way of life’ into creating an exhilarating thrill-ride record that bites hard and won’t let you go.
Their latest single from it, ‘For Queen Marilyn’, was written spontaneously after arriving at the recording studio and being asked to ‘just play something’ to check sound levels. An ominous Muse-like riff was quickly followed by crashing drums before the whole thing took off into a grunge explosion. Unwittingly, the Queen was born! After several stages of development, the new track is now available on SoundCloud here -
‘Swimming with Piranhas’ is the band’s third album but the first with Matt McGuinness completing the troop. The album explores new depths with pounding bass lines, incredible drums, and Gareth Mochizuki Ellmer’s pedal board creating the ‘biggest space sounds at just the right time’, according to Karlost, whose own vocal performance is gritty and wild yet captivating throughout.
What do Royal Blood, Savages, and Cage the Elephant all have in common? They were all supported by BBC Introducing! And now Japanese Fighting Fish have joined that stairway there is no doubt they are destined for the heights. One of their next steps will be headlining the venue Milo at the Live at Leeds Festival 2016 and with their sets being renowned for explosive antics and the boys having a habit for ending up accidentally bleeding on stage, this will definitely be a spectacle not be missed.
'For Queen Marilyn' will be available on the 3rd June, followed by the album ‘Swimming with Piranhas’ due for release on the 17th June 2016.

Nigel Thomas’ is making Britpop for the modern day. Drawling
vocals and powerful guitar builds are striking on this brilliant new album from
Nigel Thomas named ‘Travelling Man’.
Listen here:
Powerful and emotive sounds run throughout this fresh
collection of songs that not only give an insight into Thomas’ personal
reflections on life but give a relatable view of day to day life in a beautiful
way that evokes the passion of legends like Oasis and Blur.
The title track is a dreamy song full of waves of The
Beatles with brilliant guitar work and nostalgic harmonies sweeping the
listener along. Songs like ‘Drift’ use
strings reminiscent of Nick Drake but with biting lyrics that perfectly counteract
the soft melodies.
Overall the album is a gripping listen that demands
attention and respect, with plenty of great songs to get your teeth into.
When a new band are being compared to the finest in
British indie over the last two decades, then you should already know that they
will be a force to be reckoned with. Lazlo Device are a four piece from London
who have already been likened to Elbow, Arcade Fire,
Alt J, Blur, Tool, Joy Division, Radiohead and more. With their
very own brand of hypnotic, ethereal indie-rock, they are quickly picking up
momentum and new fans in equal measure.
Having already
supported the likes of 10cc and Finley Quaye in huge UK shows, Lazlo Device are now ready to make
their mark. It all started with two previously released EPs, which quickly
established their subtle, infectious sound. Now, following the ‘Looking Glass’
single release (see the video below), their ‘Duelism’ album is set to take them
to new heights.
‘Looking Glass’:
The album
launch on March 12th at the Barfly, London will be the final
culmination of what the band describe as “4 years of hard bloody work”. That
hard work has resulted in a well-rounded blend of melodic guitar, distinctive
vocals and superb production which makes up the ‘Duelism’ album.
On first
listen, it’s immediately clear that this album comes from a confident band sure
in their footing. From the very first melodic guitar tones of opening track
‘Gunslinger’, this is dripping with swagger and style. And once those drums
kick in, a motor is underway that doesn’t stop until the final chords of the
excellently twisted ‘Raining Sun’, complete with electronica overtones. In a
way, these bookends typify the variety on offer from Lazlo Device – from
straight up rock to 80s tinged synth sounds.
In between
tracks like ‘Uncertain Beginnings’ show a lighter side thanks to the classical
style piano section overlaid with that superb distinct vocal. Then later
there’s ‘Momo’, which is almost surf rock in its laid back nature. These are
just a few examples from an album chock full of creativity, ideas and quality.
It’s an LP
that’s made to turn heads, and with the likes of Dominic Howard (Muse) and
Howard Donald (Take That) already among their fans, the scene is set for the
album to make a real impact. If further proof is needed, they have also
garnered the attention of pop legend Neneh Cherry, who recently attended one of their gigs. Their music is
also about to be featured on a forthcoming BBC documentary about the Black
Panthers.
It’s all set up to be a huge year for Lazlo Device,
and it all starts with the ‘Duelism’ album.
“Raving Wild has all the
seriousness of good indie folk music but is very pop-alt relevant!”
-Jamsphere-
Raving
Wild is set to release contemplative indie EP ‘Kolmanskop’, a cathartic project
that deals with life lessons learned from past mistakes.
Having
appeared on Tom Robinson’s BBC 6 show and BBC Introducing Three Counties
amongst others, Raving Wild is one of the most intriguing and riveting singer
songwriters on the indie scene at the moment. Signed to Coffee Jingle Records,
the musician has earned praises from media platforms such as The National
Student declaring that Raving Wild aka. Graham Iddon is “crafting a sound that is delicate yet powerful,
embedding subtle instrumental intricacies within hook-heavy ballads.”
Other people who complimented his music include Liz Mitchell of Boney M.
With
a touch of Jeff Buckley and City and Colour, the EP and eponymous single
‘Kolmanskop’ is an ode to an abandoned mining town in the Namib desert which
Raving Wild used as a symbol for the EP’s concept “Lessons learned in the
desert”, an inspiration that derived from a soul searching mission in which the
artist wanted to understand how he could learn from past mistakes and
understand the world around him better. The lead single, ‘At The Crossroads’,
sets the perfect mood for the life journey that the singer describes in the
record.
Check out ‘At
The Crossroads’ here:
Having
lived in a miner’s town himself during his early childhood years (albeit not in
the desert but in the North East of England), Raving Wild has managed to mix
concept with personal experience. To make the recording process as authentic
and ‘desert-like’ as possible, the singer dehydrated himself 24 hours prior to
the making of ‘Kolmanskop’. He also explains: “This is, to my knowledge, the
only track in the world where a pickaxe makes part of the percussion.”
Raving
Wild has recently had the opportunity of playing at the film set of the latest
Star Wars movie at the prestigious Pinewood Studios in London as well as in
front of a couple of thousand people at Parklife Festival in Aylesbury last
year.
Apart
from being a talented songwriter and lyricist, Raving Wild’s interests range
from attempting to break the record in the land speed of an office chair or
eating a tin of hot dogs in the fastest time possible. He’s managed eight in 16
seconds which means he did not break the record.
We
might not read about Raving Wild in the Guinness Book of Records, but it is
more than likely that he will gain growing attention for his music in the
world’s entertainment sections.
‘Ready and Waiting’ by the brilliant RnB singer Becca B is a great new track with clear mainstream potential. Hinting at the style and music of artists like Jason Derulo or Rihanna, the singer from Nottinghamshire has clearly proven that she is on top of her game. Becca B’s vocal maturity and heartfelt interpretation are underpinned by a clean production and a catchy melody. The song is additionally rounded up with a refreshing rap interlude by MceBisi. Becca B shows that the topic of innocent flirtations and the waiting process that comes with it are never really out date and always worth a good song.
Healthy Junkies are back with their vigorous new record ‘Box
Of Chaos’, a punk album that perfectly puts the legacy of late 70s London
rebellion into the 21st century. ‘Box Of Chaos’ is a compelling
affirmation that the fight against political exploitation isn’t over yet and
that music is yet again the strongest weapon against it! Songs like ‘Watch
Out’, ‘Rebellion’ or ‘I don’t give a damn’ form the powerful statement of a
younger generation that is sick of public surveillance and social injustice.
‘Box of Chaos’ is a record that puts punk rock back at the forefront of
political debates – and therefore a much needed one.
Healthy Junkies are a band that lives, breathes and suffers punk rock. This is most evident in their latest album ‘Box Of Chaos’, a truly magnificent ode to the manic depression that plagues the residents of a 21stcentury world.
Although full of social commentary about how screwed this planet is in songs like “Watch Out” or “Captive” Healthy Junkies don’t drown into a nihilistic kind of self pity. Instead, they are punk rock enough to scream “I don’t give a damn” and “Je suis free”, demonstrating that our day and age isn’t necessarily an easy one to live in but that ultimately they’re going their way regardless – and that’s brilliantly inspiring!
