New York Pop-Rock Ensemble Joyous To Release Debut Album

New York’s celebrated pop-rock group Joyous is releasing their debut album! The band formed in 2015 and features lead singer Joy Pratt, who is also the main songwriter, often humming bass lines into her husband & bassist Randy’s ear. Randy Pratt is best known for his work with The Lizards, Cactus and Ruffyunz.

Joy and Randy write the lyrics together. When guitarist Pat Klein noticed the collection of catchy gems the married couple had assembled, he came on board without a second thought. Pat’s voice blends sweetly with Joy. Add perfect pop percussionist Phil Weiss and there was the Joyous sound!

Pat, a world class engineer, and Randy, owner of a world class recording studio, assured the record’s quality (both were members of classic rock legends The Lizards). Pat’s knack for arranging put the finishing touches on this 43-minutes that sounds like a greatest hits collection.

The band did a video themselves in their studio “on the cheap.” Next step is a big production video.

Joy wrote a happy, feel-good record for a troubled world. With guest appearances from many of New York’s best players and singers, here it is!

Available on HyperspaceRecords.com, Spotify and Apple Music

NYC CBGB Legends The Shirts’ Arthur Lamonica’s New Group Rome 56 To Release New Album “Days Of Carefree Living”

NYC based singer-songwriter Arthur Lamonica’s latest album with his new group Rome 56 reengages his catchy and smart tunes reflecting his signature sound. Since the 1970s, the songs he’s penned and performed, including a CBGB jukebox favorite - The Shirts “Tell Me Your Plans” - have inspired countless fans worldwide. Fast-forward to 2022, and his dozen songs on “Days Of Carefree Living” focus on a tight pop rock sound as its title track suggests.

Dive deeper into the album and the sound shifts by offering some gentle, folksy tunes like “A Happy Man” and “It’s Raining in Paris.” Hints of Lamonica’s former band reverberate in the sounds of retro rock on “In This Place” as well as his bluesy “As I Stroll Through The Night.” The home recording mode (due to lockdowns) makes it a fun, homespun affair.

The band with Arthur’s wife Kathy Lamonica as the main contributor in keyboards and vocals, will be back on the road in 2022 with tour dates across the UK and Europe, specifically the Netherlands where Lamonica’s sound continues to gain popularity.

Limited edition digifile CD pressing.

Pop-Rock Duo The Mangoes To Release New EP “Pale Blue Dot” On July 19, 2021

Pop-Rock Duo The Mangoes will be releasing their new EP “Pale Blue Dot” on July 19, 2021. The Mangoes was formed by Tim Morse and Bret Bingham in 2014. Conceived as a songwriting collective, their first album “The Mangoes” was well received as a pop-rock, tongue-in-cheek concept album. After a break where Bret and Tim both released solo albums, they have reformed and are about to release a new EP entitled “Pale Blue Dot.”

Says Bret, “In general, the concept of the CD was inspired by the existential musings of Carl Sagan and his observation that ‘The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena.’ The extension of this is to look outward, beyond our myopic viewpoints, and realize that each of us is a very small part of something much larger.” Tim continues, “I see the album as a song cycle with ‘Pale Blue Dot’ as the starting and ending point, it is the fulcrum of this music. All of the other songs are vignettes about people and events that take place on the ‘Pale Blue Dot.’”

At the beginning of the pandemic Tim got in touch with Bret about making some music together - not necessarily reviving The Mangoes. For example, they had recently done a cover of the Pink Floyd song “Dogs” (that appeared on Tim Morse’s last album “The Archaeology Project”) and it was just credited to Morse/Bingham. However, Bret sent Tim around ten song ideas and the majority of them seemed to be Mango-y songs, so the duo leaned into that direction. There are a variety of genres on this project, there’s a blues-y gospel feel to “Hypnotized” and a The Band/Dylan vibe of “When the Sky Fell Down.” It isn’t Progressive Rock, but has an Art-Rock flavor like the Alan Parsons Project, The Moody Blues and even a bit of Pink Floyd.

Says Bret, “I had a rough outline for most of the songs. Tim helped me with the initial selection of songs to work on and then was a sounding board, helping to fill in the gaps wherever it was needed. Tim chose the Beatles’ song ‘Free as a Bird’ as a cover. I was very pleased with how the themes of the song and overall feel fit in with the rest of the songs.”

Tim and Bret had recorded The Mangoes eponymous debut album remotely, so they continued this process. It involves a lot of file sharing and emails. But this worked well during the pandemic.

Says Tim, “Bret and I have a very easy working relationship. We were in a band together before we started The Mangoes and we’ve been friends for years so there is a lot of shorthand between us. Also, there’s an openness about making suggestions regarding the music and arrangements, etc. I wish all recording projects were as smooth!”

In closing Bret has this to impart, “The lesson of the Pale Blue Dot is to preserve and cherish what we’ve got. The Poppermost, One-Man “Beat Group” Feat. Joe Kane From Scotland Delivers Beatlesque Power-Poppin’ Folk-Rockin’ Roll On Debut Album “Hits To Spare”

Released August 27, 2021 on Think Like A Key Music

With the genuine desire to create a continuation of the FABS early vibe, The Poppermost is the one-man mission of Glasgow multi-instrumentalist Joe Kane - whose attention to detail is impeccable; the structure and arrangements, the playing, the sentimentality is all there along with the in-jokes, creating songs that satisfy your innermost Fab Four desires.

The Poppermost finds Joe in his garage studio playing everything himself. Utilising an array of instruments, microphones and recording techniques, all glued together by bargain basement analogue junk that builds up to the very first Poppermost album, “Hits To Spare.”

Short, sweet and exactly as they used to make ‘em, “Hits To Spare” does exactly what it says on the sleeve. Kicking off with an enthusiastic “1-2-3-4,” the opening track “Egg And Chips,” with its solid back beat-driven Cavern Club stomp and ascending “ah-ah-ah’s” sets the scene for what follows. In just over half an hour, “Hits To Spare” packs in a multitude of double-tracked vocals, three-part harmonies and major sixth endings that’ll leave you giddy and dizzy, dizzy, dizzy Miss Lizzy.

Within these carefully considered grooves there are rockers galore like “Goodnight Georgia Peach” and “Laziest Fella In The Realm.” Then there is the chugging, chiming “Ticket To Ride” inspired “Park And Ride” alongside the romantic balladry of “Get It Down.” Whether it’s the Lennon-like “you wanted the werld and I gave you the werld” here, a woody McCartney bass-line there, a multitude of 12-string chiming George middle eight’s, with everything held in place by a perfect Ringo compressed backbeat, there’s a song for every occasion.

“Ultimately, this album was about making a very fresh, quick and positive pop record, utilising the recording aesthetics and sound of my favourite music,” says Kane, who is currently putting together a live version of the band that’ll be ready to get people twisting and shouting as soon as possible.

Based out of Glasgow, Scotland, Joe Kane stays a busy man and has a busy track record, having recorded under various aliases such as Dr. Cosmos’ Tape Lab (You Are The Cosmos) and Radiophonic Tuckshop (Last Night From Glasgow) while working with countless artists including the late, great Neil Innes (The Rutles), Joey Molland (Badfinger), Alan White (Plastic Ono Band), BMX Bandits and Ette. He can also be heard kick starting the recent Ex Norwegian & Friends tribute album to Liverpool singer-songwriter Jimmy Campbell, Sing Jimmy Campbell with a fantastic take of his classic Rockin’ Horse track “Yes It Is.”

This latest project, The Poppermost, exists to remind us of a time when the world shook to the giddy monophonic thunk of Merseybeat, to a time of Dansettes and desert boots, when R&B didn’t mean Rhianna and Beyonce and an MP3 was Harold Wilson and a couple of his Westminster mates out on the razz down Carnaby Street.

Blues Rock, Pop Rock, Soft Rock Review: Stephen Bishop-We’ll Talk About It Later In The Car

Release Date: August 30, 2019
Label: ABC, Warner Bros, MCA

Intricate storytelling and impassioned instrumentation shine through the nostalgic fog of Stephen Bishop’s latest album. Over a generous 45-minutes Bishop presents us with a time capsule to the past, a time when songwriting and soul were the cornerstones of quality music. The cover art depicts a younger Bishop, this references how most songs on the album were written at the beginning of his career. If you don’t mind a bit of melancholy and you’re looking for an album to cozy up with over these coming winter months, then this could be the one for you. Bishop has spent his lengthy career rubbing shoulders with some of the most talented musicians the industry has to offer, writing songs for innumerable performers including Art Garfunkel, Barbara Streisand, and Eric Clapton. With Bishop’s wordsmanship prompting two Grammys and an Oscar nomination, there’s no doubt that he’s one of this generation’s more talented songwriters. The only question I had coming into this album was, did he save enough of the magic for himself?

The opening track, “Almost Home” is a triumphant, hopeful combination of thumping drums, mellow guitar, and folksy lyrics. Its ambiance and cadence perfectly capture the elation of the final stretch of a voyage. The chorus on this tune is incredibly catchy, so prepare to be singing this one aloud around the house.

Storytelling is at the fore on “Like Mother, Like Daughter.” This jaunty song features a twanging banjo and country-style guitar, as Bishop’s blissful vocals examine the phenomenon of children growing up to be versions of their parents. This superb song would be a narrative highlight on many other albums, but Bishop outdoes himself on “In Love With a Violent Man.” On this poignant, heartbreaking track, the artist explores the desperately sad and incendiary subject of domestic violence. Over a haunting, somber piano the lyrics delve into forgiveness, empathy, and regret. This is a truly complex and unique gem of music.

Bishop’s proficiency isn’t limited to profound, thought-provoking tales however, his performances across this album demonstrate how multi-faceted his skill set is. Take “I Don’t Know Enough About You” for example, a bluesy swing with a light, carefree, fun feel. Or “French Postcards,” a song which encapsulates the romantic, wandering, ‘promeneur’ concept of Parisian culture. And the final track “Tinseltown,” a song reminiscent of Hall & Oates at their peak, which lays out a nostalgic, idealized view of Hollywood.

Perhaps a few tracks on this album could have been more pertinent if recorded at the time of their writing, but their release will surely please Bishop’s fandom to no end. We’ll Talk About It Later In The Car is a thoroughly enjoyable listen which shares a glimpse into the mind of a young artist overflowing with creativity, who forty years after his debut, still has stories to tell.

Key Tracks Include: “Almost Home,” “Like Mother, Like Daughter,” and “I Don’t Know Enough About You.”

Power Pop Trio ACTING NATURAL Featured on iHEART RADIO Ahead of the Release of Their New ACTING NATURAL EP

Showcasing a Fresh Sound with Raw Rock & Roll Roots!

NYC - ACTING NATURAL lead singer & guitarist Eric Carnevale, bass guitarist/vocalist James David Maney, and drummer/vocalist Jesse Leonard are fueled by a mutual interest in bringing back the authenticity of raw Rock & Roll music. Their new ACTING NATURAL EP is a stunning debut that proves they have aligned their unwavering dedication to creating quality music with a signature sound. The ACTING NATURAL EP will have a worldwide digital release on September 22, 2017, followed by a physical CD release on October 20, 2017. Coinciding with the digital release, ACTING NATURAL will be attending the iHeartMusic Festival on September 22 in Las Vegas, NV.

ACTING NATURAL released their first single “Pairadice” and the response was incredible, reaching #1 on the Top 5 Most Added and reached #9 on the FMQB A/C Chart. ACTING NATURAL’s unique sound is focused on passion and solid musicianship, and their inspirations range from legendary artists of the past and present, including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Led Zeppelin, and The Beatles, just to name a few.

This young trio, originally from Tampa, Florida, and each a multi-instrumentalist with refreshingly down-to-earth dispositions, started their journey together at the age of just 13 years old. They began writing and recording original material not long after, instinctively creating a fresh sound with Rock & Roll roots and modern vibes. Singing three-part harmonies, their distinctive blend of music and lyrics is drawn from personal inspirations and experiences, allowing the band to be fully expressive and creative in their songwriting. The band recently re-located to New York, and they are thrilled about what the future holds.

The making of the new ACTING NATURAL EP was an exciting process for the band, who loves recording and just being in the studio atmosphere. “It’s a very magical place,” says lead singer Eric Carnevale. “We selected some songs of ours that we had recently laid down on a demo, and wanted to go in and really record them properly.” They called up their good friend / engineer Jim Morris, owner of Morrisound Recording in Tampa, FL, and got to work on the first few tracks of the EP.

The sessions were filled with memorable moments and strong efforts from the whole group. During the recording process, they ended up writing a few brand-new songs in the studio, which led to the writing and the recording being finished all within the same session. The whole project was a joint effort, with JD playing some great bass, Jesse laying down the drums, and both harmonizing with Eric on lead vocals and guitar/piano/percussion. They worked around the clock, sometimes going straight through the night and only catching a couple hours of rest between sessions. Eric says, “I'll never forget being in the booth just finishing laying down the vocals for the bridge of a song called 'Nicole,' and I looked down at the time and it was 7:45AM! I said that's it, I'm going to bed!”

Acting Natural simply means to naturally be what you are. To be Aware, Awake, Able and Alive. The band’s artistry is instinctive. With their appealing on-stage chemistry and addictive melodies, ACTING NATURAL is confident in their ability to leave an impact and connect to audiences. “We are musicians, but we are also huge fans of music. It’s our identity, it’s in our blood. Our focus is music, period,” remarks Maney.

Although the band’s primary genre is rock, their music manages to cross genres and generations, attracting people from all sides of the spectrum and any ethnicity, from kids in their early teens to adults over 60. This an extremely unique quality to an artist that is not often discovered. “Being accepted by people from many different styles and walks of life is a really beautiful thing for us. We’ve played in everything from hip hop clubs, to hardcore metal venues and have been so grateful for such a positive response across the board.

It’s a spiritual feeling really. We get to play to people. Not these people, or those people…All people. Music has so much power. If we can contribute to even the slightest bit of bringing people together, we believe that’s a whole other accomplishment on its own, bigger than anything.”

With growing notoriety on the east coast, the band has their goals set on gaining new awareness on a larger platform, while continually pushing Rock & Roll music forward as artists. “We just want to play music with no constraints and be as innovative as possible, while performing for fans that allow us to consistently create and share our music,” says Carnevale. ACTING NATURAL strives to prove that raw talent, ambition, and honesty can still prevail in today’s music industry.

The new ACTING NATURAL EP will have a worldwide digital release on September 22, 2017, followed by a physical CD release on October 20, 2017, with national radio exposure, large-scale marketing campaigns, and tours to follow. The future looks bright for this talented and committed group. Follow along with their journey on their website and social media pages.

Renowned LA Songwriter Bob Beland Releases Highly Anticipated New Album “Left Of Center”

Mar Vista, CA - Much to the anticipation of music aficionados worldwide, renowned LA songwriter Bob Beland is releasing his new album “Left Of Center” on his own independent label Wrong Way Works! Beland is an American born musician/songwriter from Los Angeles, CA, where he has performed, written and recorded original music from 1973 to the present. His diverse career spans over four decades

ABOUT THE ALBUM:

“Left Of Center,” my new fourth solo album and the third under my own label, came as a surprise to me in 2016 as I had two complete albums of new songs already in the archives that I hadn’t released yet.

Early in the year I had just completed a long project partnering with my ex-Furys band mate, the Legendary Fontenelle DuClaw to co-write, co-perform, co-arrange and produce his first (and still unreleased) solo mini album at my home studio Wrong Way Works. Danny Simon, who mastered Fontenelle's EP, also helped me retrieve 45 song demos by my buddy Jules Shear from 1973 with 3 reels of tape that I had kept with me for over 40 years. When I went to look for those tapes again I found a few reels of my own stuff. One of those reels had the original 1983 recordings of two songs found on this new album. I ended up using one of them, “It’s Alright With Me Mr. Bob” and the other one, “Off The Handle,” I re-recorded.

“Off The Handle” was a song of mine that Fontenelle and I used to perform in the Furys back in the 80’s but I never recorded a proper version of my own until now. I'm certain that today's political climate and one unsavory character in particular inspired me to revisit it again and record it.

“It's Alright With Me Mr. Bob” was recorded with my dear friend the late David Beebe who played drums on many recordings of mine including “Stealing Cars” and “The Bob Beland E.P.” David was the drummer par excellence for Jules & the Polar Bears and Slow Children. It was always a joy to record with David and on “It's Alright With Me Mr. Bob” we had a particularly fun time recording it in a garage in Santa Monica, CA along with the help two other good friends of mine, Marty Korth on bass, and R&B singer/songwriter Dale Mitchell on vocals. All the guys were completely into accommodating my oddball idea about freedom of expression and the fun of creating that idea still seemed to exist in that recording even after 33 years and some wear and tear. Once I heard it again after Danny Simon retrieved it this year from the old tape I really felt the urge to release it flaws and all. It's a source of personal satisfaction that I wrote and recorded “It's Alright With Me Mr. Bob” 3 years before Paul Simon's African influenced album “Graceland” came out. My only regret is that David isn’t here to enjoy it again but I can close my eyes and still see him smiling, laughing and having a great time while we were putting the song together. It was always that way with David but through all the crazy fun he still delivered a great performance every single time we worked together. I still miss him and I hope he is resting in eternal peace.

“One Bright Burning” is a song I wrote way back in the 80's but never recorded until now. I came across the lyrics in my notebook and actually remembered the melody! I can't remember my username and password but I can remember a song I wrote from the 1980's. Go figure!

And of the new songs:

“Some Friends Of Mine” was originally called “Funky Folks” written on a lark for a friend who was working on a solo album with the working title of “Funky Folks.” I thought, “How the hell do you write a song called “Funky Folks?” So I did for the fun of it and sent a demo of it to my buddy who, much to my surprise, wasn’t that impressed by it (this is in spite of the fact that I reference his nick name AND his wife in the frickin' song! LOL!). Well, in spite of the rejection, I kind of liked it myself so I decided to retool and record the song with a new title so as not to encroach upon his own record. One man’s loss is another man’s gain and “Some Friends of Mine” seemed to work out for me that way and I'm happy about it for no other good reason than to have my old friend Bobby Pickett playing monster bass on the song. Bobby was Etta James bassist for many years and was an original member of Detective, the first band signed to Led Zeppelin's Swan Song label.

“Sloppy Joe” and “Who’ll Save The World?” feature The Legendary Fontenelle DuClaw on bass, pipe organ, digital saxes, drum loops and ½ piano.

“Cold” features a dear old friend of mine, singer/songwriter Dan Navarro formerly of the duo Lowen & Navarro. Dan and I go all the way back to the Troubadour and the early 70's. You'd be hard pressed to find a nicer guy than the Calexico Cowboy. Dan and his partner Eric wrote and recorded many albums together throughout their prestigious 20 year career and hit it big with Pat Benatar's recording of their song, “We Belong.” Look for Dan to be releasing his first solo album very soon.

“The Lost Highway,” “It'll Take Overtime” and “Ain't Goin' Back To That” are all new songs as well. I hope you enjoy the music and performances on “Left Of Center” and thanks again for listening!

Those Damn Eyes To Release Debut Single and Video “Mysterious Mixture”

Austin, TX - Possibly one of the most anticipated releases of this year is the debut single and video by Texas rock band Those Damn Eyes entitled “Mysterious Mixture.” Founded in Austin, Texas Those Damn Eyes exudes powerful, sexy aggression through its sonic display of heavy-pop-rock. Led by front woman Alyssa Ehrhard and guitarist Daniel Corder, the two have created a strong collection of material that is bursting with high-range, beautifully sung melodies and finely-crafted musical arrangements that stimulate and embolden listeners to just…..give in.

“The concept behind 'Mysterious Mixture' explores the sentiment of a past relationship. I wanted to express the frustration, confusion, agony, and ecstasy in a beautiful way. Lyrically, I talk about this kind of emotional struggle. The video is an expression of acceptance and healing, showing that despite everything we still have the ability to smile and dance spontaneously. We still have the ability to be happy, no matter what might come our way. It's about my own journey of struggle and healing. Daniel is the 'good man' that found me as a diamond in the rough. I want to send a message to people who can relate to such struggle and healing; I want each of them to understand they're not alone.”

Those Damn Eyes' debut single release, “Mysterious Mixture” was written by vocalist Alyssa Ehrhard and guitarist Daniel Corder. Lyrical and melodic work took place shortly after the pair met in July of 2014, while music was written in the fall of 2013 and recorded in January '14. The band has had the fortunate opportunity to create its recordings with producer and bassist, Matt Noveskey. Their sessions take place at Orb Studios, a masterfully built studio in West Austin. Noveskey's experienced ear and knowledge of exceptional tone has been essential in forging the band's sonic identity.

Alyssa excels as an artist; in addition to her vocal talents, she is an exceptionally talented painter and uses her skilled-hand in creating band artwork. Daniel is a devoted composer and multi-instrumentalist who hones his skill through eclectic musical taste and collaborations in differing genres. Jake Rabin, drummer, has an admirable amount of talent and experience through his involvement in various bands in the Austin and Dallas music scenes. Marc Martell, guitarist, has developed a great finesse with lead guitar-work and shares a different project with Jake. Don Denham, bassist, works as a music teacher and bassist for hire and devotes time to his own passion project.

Marcus Nand Releases ‘Time And Tide Wait For No Man’

The great new single by Marcus Nand is ‘Time And Tide Wait For No Man’, a melodic soft pop/rock track which is set to be released on 22ndJanuary. The single is the first release from his album of the same title. Marcus is best-known for his work as a guitarist, and session musician, having played with many well-respected musicians, as well as expertly crossing-over between genres such as rock, pop, flamenco and blues.

‘Time And Tide Wait For No Man’ is structured as a typical pop song but with Marcus’ own unique spin. Straight away the song begins with a full band, with Marcus’ uplifting vocals right at the focal point. The song starts off quite mellow but soon becomes rockier during the chorus. The lyrics tell the story of sell-expression, determination and motivation to achieve what you want in life. With this powerful message and masterful, capturing guitar work, along with a strong backing band, this makes an excellent first single and we’re excited to hear the rest of the album.
