Be-Bop Deluxe “Hot Valves” Remastered 10-inch Vinyl of Classic EP From 1976 Released November 24, 2023

• NEW REMASTERED 10-INCH VINYL RE-ISSUE OF THIS CLASSIC EP FROM 1976.

• FULLY RESTORED ARTWORK.

Originally issued in November 1976, the “Hot Valves” EP version featured four classic Be-Bop Deluxe songs, “Maid in Heaven”, “Bring Back the Spark”, “Blazing Apostles” and “Jet Silver and the Dolls of Venus” and was a UK Top 40 hit upon its release.

This new 10-inch EP edition has been cut from the original master tapes and is issued as part of Cherry Red Records’ 45s at 45 series.

Korean-American artist Kristian J releases charismatic EP 'YANG-A-CHI'

 

Korean-American singer-songwriter Kristian J (previously known as Joom BaBoom) returns with a highly addictive new EP ‘YANG-A-CHI’. Consisting of leading single ‘WIPE IT OFF’, the hip-hop infused contender sits firmly on a high pedestal in an already fantastic industry. After living in South Korea for two years and independently releasing two albums, Kristian is now based in Mexico City, ready to further his music career in Latin America, while constantly honing his personal brand: sexy, smooth, camp, queer.

Speaking about the personal new EP, Kristian J shares, “양아치 (yang-a-chi) is a Korean word meaning a punk, a troublemaker. One of those class bullies you always see on TV. On the one hand, I’m not really that kind of person at all, yet it became sort of a nickname for me while I was living in Korea the past few years. While it was all for fun, I think it’s because I chose to live my life differently from other people. I wasn’t afraid to take risks and get into a little trouble. I wasn’t 정상 (“normal”) like everyone else. In the Korean gay community, 양아치 is even seen as a compliment. 

You’re like a bad boy. On the other hand, I guess I am a 양아치 in a way. I decided to name this EP after this peculiar, newfound identity. A lot of these songs are about living life differently from those around you. The lyrics talk about love, sex, identity, and the masochistic torture of chasing after your dreams as an artist. Grappling with these things and coming to terms with your authentic self isn’t an easy thing to do. Unless you’re a 양아치.”

A bold statement that this LGBTQ+ artist means business, ‘WIPE IT OFF’’ flows freely without a care in the world. At just over two minutes long, the track may be short, but it’s certainly sweet. Fitting perfectly in today’s mainstream charts, it’s Kristian J’s smooth vocals that steal the spotlight. Armed with breathtaking harmonies that create a safe-haven, the beat is by BrazyKey$ (IG: @itsbrazykeys) and the vocal production by Kristian J himself. “YANG-A-CHI” also features previously heard single ‘ON&ON’ which received fantastic playlist placements and streams.

Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson Joins Leslie Mandoki for "WeSayThankYou" to Our First Responders


“We all thank the brave, hardworking front-line medics and care workers around the world. Leslie managed to put into the lyrics references to the police, grocery clerks, supermarket workers too. I would like to add those essential worker folks who it was impossible to squeeze into a three-minute song. To all, we say, thank you.” - Ian Anderson on singing and playing flute on Leslie Mandoki’s “WeSayThankYou.”

Los Angeles, CA - As the world continues to be consumed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson sings and plays flute with Mandoki Soulmates leader Leslie Mandoki. Mandoki has found inspiration and a new spark of hope amidst the chaos. He has penned a powerful new song in appreciation for the heroes who have emerged in this global crisis, the nurses, doctors, and other health care providers as well as the grocery store clerks and food delivery personnel who have stepped up to serve their communities. The new song, entitled simply “#WeSayThankYou,” expresses so clearly the feelings of gratitude many of us have felt in these troubled times.

Mandoki explains, “As an artist, I feel it is my duty to contemplate ideas for a better world. Now, like so many of us, I suddenly have the time. Let us grab this uncommon moment of pause together and take a new approach to the problems of the world. And let’s take a hard look at who this crisis is casting in a heroic light, and who comes out the villain.”

The duet is being released as an EP on Thursday, May 7, 2020, through the Purple Pyramid imprint of indie giant Cleopatra Records, Inc. and is Mandoki Soulmate’s first release in the recently inked partnership with the L.A.-based label. Additional Mandoki releases are set to follow later this year.

There are three different versions of the song on the EP:

1. Duet with Ian Anderson.
2. New Version with Ian Anderson and Leslie Mandoki featuring Soulmates: Supertramp saxophonist John Helliwell, multi Grammy Winner Randy Brecker (on trumpet), Chair of Berklee´s Bass Department Steve Bailey, Simon Phillips (drums, along with Leslie),and backup singers: Bobby Kimball (Toto) and Chris Thompson (Manfred Mann´s Earth Band).
3. Unplugged, Acoustic, Living-Room-Concert, with Ian & Leslie, Randy, Steve, John.

Leslie will be donating the royalties from the sales, syncs, and airplay of “#WeSayThankYou” to a To-Be-Announced Charity.

“#WeSayThankYou” was written in the context of Leslie’s own isolation in Germany, where his doctor wife, Eva, is a first contact physician.

Ian and Leslie have worked together for over 25 years on various collaborations with his jazz-rock band Soulmates featuring the good and great of classic rock and jazz. Mandoki’s Soulmates toured North America in 2018.

Bay Area Rock Songstress KARNEY Reaches New Heights With Huge Sound and Powerful Lyrics on Her New EP BETTER


San Francisco, CA – Anna Karney has been making great music for many years, performing across the United States and collaborating with many talented and notable artists. As a solo artist she has put out several singles and EPs, and now with her band KARNEY is set to release a new EP titled BETTER, a stunning collection of original new songs together with a remix, and a cover of “Ramble On,” one of Karney’s favorite Led Zeppelin songs.

Keeping her mind on social justice and positive messages, Anna Karney’s lyrical content offers a sardonic and sometimes straightforward approach to many of the issues facing people today, with a message of hope resonating throughout every song she writes. Inspiration, obsession, and constant chaos in the news are the motivators for her new songs. How can a social justice songwriter stay silent during these trying times? The answer is, she can’t. Despite this, the title song “Better” shifts focus to the positive and offers the listener an uplifting message of hope and courage.

The KARNEY band performs in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Pacific Northwest, and it is very easy for Anna Karney to remain inspired with the new players in the lineup around her. These include bassist Kevin White (The Chuck Prophet Band), guitarist Erik Smyth (Mo’fessionals, Too Short), and also returning on guitar James DePrato (The Chuck Prophet Band). Drummer Jeff Herrera remains the steady backbeat of the group, and horn section heavyweights include trumpet player Bill Ortiz (Santana, Tony Toni Tone) and Sax/Electric Bassoonist Paul Hanson (Bela Fleck, Billy Cobham). Anna Karney holds down guitar, various piano, organ and strings sounds, and lead and background vocals on all songs. With this all-star lineup each show is more exciting than the last.

KARNEY released her last album of original songs titled NO MERCY in 2018, which received broad national Radio airplay on Triple-A and Americana radio stations, and internationally as well. On that album as well as on previous releases, KARNEY has worked with producers and artists in the SF Bay Area such as Producer/engineer Mark Pistel (Michael Franti, Grace Jones, Chuck Prophet), Producer/Engineer Michael Rosen (Rancid, Tesla, Smashmouth, Santana, and Papa Roach), and Adam Munoz (Herbie Hancock, Dave Mathews, Branford Marsalis, Joshua Bell, Chester Thompson, and Lyle Lovett).

Anna Karney’s musical influences include Bob Dylan, Neil Young, John Lennon, Sheryl Crow, Chrissie Hynde, Fela Kuti, and Joni Mitchell. As an arranger, pianist, and guitarist, she has worked with artists such as George ClintonLinda Perry, and Dennis Bovell. By night the KARNEY band rocks out at clubs and events, and by day Anna Karney is a choir director and guitar teacher in public schools. She has found a balance between creating her own new music and inspiring creativity and songwriting in teens. Some musicians might decide to quit their passion for more practical work, but Karney is only energized more by doing both.

Anna Karney has had a diverse musical career, having spent many years composing music for games such as Star Wars GalaxiesMonkey Island IVArmed and Dangerous, several SimCity titles, Metal DungeonDeath Jr., and many more. She has also added youth choral director to her list of musical endeavors, having received the esteemed “Dreamcatcher” Award from the Visual and Performing Arts division of the San Francisco Unified School District for her work as a choral teacher and conductor for middle and high school students, as well as her contribution to the furthering of music education in the San Francisco public school system.

Additionally, Anna Karney has scored ballet and modern dance pieces as an artist in residence at Mills College and San Francisco State University. Ugly Runner Evokes Sounds of The Stooges, Ty Segall & The Pixies With Debut EP "Romanticizer"


Ugly Runner is a 3-piece rock ‘n’ roll outfit from Asheville, North Carolina. As broad as the spectrum of rock ‘n’ roll itself, so are the influences of Ugly Runner, which range from California Punk to British Rhythm & Blues. Aiming to create timeless rock 'n' roll that dances on the edge of psychedelia, and invokes nostalgia from the first listen, the band entered the studio in May 2019 to record their debut EP, “Romanticizer,” at Sedgwick Studios in Flat Rock, NC. Working with engineer, Peter Brownlee, they tracked the 6-song EP and spent the remainder of the summer playing shows and preparing for the release of their debut EP. Ugly Runner's “Romanticizer” will be released on Cleopatra Records on January 2nd.

Says the band, “'Romanticizer' is an EP we wanted to put out as a rock ’n’ roll showcase. It’s not a concept album in a lyrical sense, but it is a representation of personal growth, addiction, relationships, and the hope for societal awareness all around us. The concept: let’s put out rock ‘n’ roll music that flirts with various sub-genres while harnessing a fresh aesthetic, a unique delivery, and striving for distinction between tracks.”

Says Brett, “'Romanticizer' was mostly written in the winter of 2019 before Ugly Runner was formed. Stephen had written a collection of songs, and we picked the songs we thought best represented Ugly Runner. The entire EP was tracked over 3 days at Sedgwick Studios in Flat Rock, North Carolina. Peter Brownlee was brought on to engineer the project, and then we spent the next few months at Peter’s home studio mixing and finally mastering the record. Drums, guitar and bass were tracked live, with overdubbing on guitar, vocals, and some additional keys/percussion. It was an exhaustive, creative process but well worth it, and we can’t wait to begin tracking our full-length LP.”

Says Stephen, “We are best friends who have been playing music together since 2016. I love writing songs, and Brett loves playing songs. It just worked out that way. Brett listens to way more music, and he’s who I trust to say if something is cool or not quite there.”

Henry Rollins/David Bowie Guitarist Chris Haskett To Release New Instrumental EP "Insufficient Necessities" on November 15th


Chris Haskett is a Grammy-nominated American guitar player mainly known for his time in the Rollins Band in the 1980s and 90s. After eight albums, Chris is releasing an instrumental EP of original tunes, “Insufficient Necessities,” primarily featuring his European band (Mike Baker of DC go-go band Rare Essence does bass duties on the opening song “Going Back”) on November 15, 2019. The emphasis is decidedly on funk with nods to Chris's hometown go-go scene as well as New Orleans second-line grooves.

As on his other releases, Chris looks to strike a fragile balance of technique, tonal color and letting “interesting accidents” find their way in to the music. He wears his influences on his sleeve, and echoes of Beck, Ribot and Richard Thompson all peek through at various points. As he says himself, “I think I like things to teeter between being fluidly funky and a little fractured too.I'm hard to categorize because I straddle a kind of venn diagram/middle ground where hard rock meets downtown avant garde (with a little bit of 'Dark Star' sprinkled on top).”

The recordings are a mix of both studio and concert multi-track recordings re-edited and overdubbed, sometimes in the studio and sometimes in the concert venue. The four originals on this EP are part of a much larger batch of recordings. The rest, an eclectic collection of covers, are due for release in 2020.



Most of Chris's early life was spent in Washington DC though, by chance, he was living in the UK just as punk was breaking in 1977. The rule-breaking freedom offered by punk had a profound influence on him and remained with him on his return to the US in 1978. His first band, the Enzymes, synthesized diverse influences from both the early punk/no-wave scene as well as the avant-garde and free jazz musics of the time. This overlap of influences reluctance to be pigeonholed has been a constant throughout his career.

Moving back to England in 1980 brought him into collaborations with the Birthday Party's Rowland S. Howard and for Public Image bassist Jah Wobble. It was also during this time that he reestablished contact with old DC friend Henry Rollins who was then singing in Black Flag. When Black Flag broke up in 1986, Rollins immediately suggested they do a project together. The result was the genesis of the Rollins Band. Over the following ten years, the band became known for uniquely powerful, uncompromising hard rock that spanned and yet stood apart from both the grunge and metal scenes of the era. After ten albums, a Grammy nomination and nearly a thousand concerts across the globe, the band members decided to part ways in 1997.

Even in the midst of the Rollins Band's punishing schedule Chris found time for instrumental side projects. In 1995 he released “Language,” a mix of angular acoustic guitar pieces and musique concrête that also featured duets with Rowland S Howard. 1997's “Non-Fiction” was a collaboration with Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers drummer Brandon Finley. This electric guitar album incorporated DC's signature go-go beats alongside a clear influence of both Zappa and Sonny Sharrock. The subsequent releases, “Not Part of the Solution” (2002), “The Return of the Geary Act” (2004), “Maybe Definitely” (2012), “Gravity:Left/Right” (2013), “The Courage Born of Conflicting Terrors” (2014) and last year's “Comprovisations in Linear B,” all defy easy categorization but share a distinctive musical sensibility: funky, angular, lyrical and unpredictable.

In 1999 Chris was hired by David Bowie who said he was looking forward to Chris's “nose bleedingly hostile” guitar to complement Reeves Gabrels for an upcoming tour. The planned tour got sidelined but Chris can be heard alongside Reeves on Bowie's “Hours” album.

Aside from numerous concerts fronting his own bands in the US, Europe and Australia, some of Chris's other touring and performance credits include Steven Brown (Tuxedomoon), The Cassandra Complex, Elliott Sharp, Reeves Gabrels, Pigface, Chris D (Divine Horsemen), Utah Saints, and Foetus.. More recently he has been invited as onstage to perform with Helmet as well as MC50.

Chris divides his time between the US, Europe and Australia and is currently working on a percussion-heavy psychedelic live band.

Uncle Roy says, “For 'Save The Universe' I wanted to create a set of tunes that were not one style of rock or just heavy or just light. I wanted to have some of the musical ingredients, from several rock stylings, within the scope of the music. I wanted the recipe for this project to be more universal, with a mix of rock genres. Therefore, each tune has its own musical and lyrical difference and character from the others. There is soft guitar and screaming guitar. There are dreamy, orchestral keyboards to, thick, and rockin' keyboards. The drums may lightly and tightly groove for a section of a tune and then, be pounding. The bass will be subtle at times and then, sometimes big and fat. Vocally, you will find the voices of the songs going from the mellow and grand to heavy rock to a little, talk-singin' and preachin'. For every letter of the alphabet, there is a musical influence that has manipulated my musical, genetic makeup, over a few light years. The world's music is broad, cultural, always evolving and it is what influences me musically, as well, all the time.”

“IT DOESN’T REALLY MATTER” is, an alternative rock tune with a world music vibe. The tune begins with an airy and misty music and vocal section. The song builds into a catchy, pop rock bridge that develops into a thumping, driving, preachin', talk-singin' chorus. The words address the whole world issue of racism, prejudice and equality across the Earth.

“After trying for a few light years of time, to repair the navigational system of my spaceship, due to a small ice particle smashing into the lens of the interstellar space guiding system, at the nose of this ship, I suddenly realized that my course direction had changed, drastically! None of the constellations or orbiting bodies were familiar. Distant solar systems were out of place in the twilight! The galaxy I was orbiting, was not, the Milky Way! I must have drifted into a wormhole while working on the repair. Which didn’t work. I need a few parts. Good thing is, at least, I found a map of our solar system and the Milky Way under my drivers seat. If I get close to home, it could help. 'Let's see. The map says, 'Map of the Solar System,' 1987..What!?  What!? 1987! Oh man! This map is, ancient! Talk about, lost in space! Hopefully, I'll meet someone out here who knows where I am, where I can get some parts and how I can return home…I guess I'll just play some music while I survey my surroundings and give this galaxy a couple of orbits, so I can get comfy in my new neighborhood..Man! Whatever universe this is, it sure is a beautiful, sparkling place! Navigation by the stars! Oh yeah! I need some drivin' music! Hmmm…Some of my Uncle Roy's Spaceship music will do just fine! One thing about outer space is that, no one care's about how loud or how long you play it! Everybody, everywhere, loves Earth music!!!” The adventure, begins…

From soloists to small groups to orchestral instrumentals, through a variety of music, the dynamic sensitivities within instrumental music makes me feel a rollercoaster of sensations and emotions!!! So, I thought that creating a project of some tunes with the ingredients of a few instrumental rock music genres together, would be fun! Instrumental rock, progressive rock, fusion, spacey rock, classical rock and jazz rock are all a part of the music in, 'How Do We Get To Earth?' “THERE IS NOTHING MORE BRIGHT THAN THE STARS AT NIGHT” is a fusion instrumental that begins with an edgy tension creating tone, into a very cool, smooth cruisin' groove, with light textured keys and tasty, sonic guitar, throughout. The tune bounces sweetly, drifting in to get the fusion ensemble rolling. This tune cruises nicely.
“IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE MILKY WAY” is a beautiful and dreamy soundscape. The song is a pretty, flowing, melodic and rhythmic composition that has a wonderful, warm, serene feeling and quality. The composition makes you drift thoughtfully and imagine. Subtle and sweet orchestration, gives the song its appealing ambiance and mood. Softly, singing guitar notes provide sweet textures and voice. The tune leaves one with a good vibe, inside.
“FLIGHT OF THE ANCIENT ALIEN” is an energetic, progressive rock tune. This tune crescendos all the way from start to finish. The music gives you the feeling of flying with this ancient adventurer. Sonar's "The Bill Laswell Mix Translations" To Be Released On Limited Edition 12-inch Vinyl EP On 7dMedia


The Swiss quartet SONAR has quickly gained international reputation for creating a unique blend of forward-thinking instrumental music imbued with power, tension and emotional identity. With their slow-build approach to dramaturgy and avoidance of conventional forms, they focus on collective group efforts and a deeper kind of interaction amongst their members Stephan Thelen (guitar), Bernhard Wagner (guitar), Christian Kuntner (electric bass) and Manuel Pasquinelli (drums).

For their internationally acclaimed fourth album “Vortex” (RareNoiseRecords), Sonar made an unexpected move by adding the expressive, experimental and deeply emotional playing of US guitarist and producer David Torn to their precise and disciplined polyrhythmic groove tapestry, thus adding the yin to their yang.

For this new vinyl release, legendary producer, remixer and bass guitarist Bill Laswell remixed and reconstructed two tracks from “Vortex”, also adding electronics and his signature bass guitar.

How did this (again unexpected and unlikely) collaboration happen? Sonar's guitarist and composer Stephan Thelen tells the story: “My friend and music journalist Anil Prasad wrote an e-mail telling me that he was meeting Bill Laswell for dinner and wondered if I would want him to ask if Bill would be willing to do two Sonar remixes. Since Bill has always been one of my favorite musicians, I of course said yes. Then things went really fast. Bill agreed to do it, but he wanted to do them soon, because his schedule was about to get very tight. I talked to the band, we decided which two pieces Bill should remix and then sent the multitracks to James Dellatacoma, Bill's engineer. Exactly 9 days after Anil's e-mail, we had two stunning remixes in our dropbox.”

In Anil's words, this is a “Zürich-New York sonic summit where minimalist groove meets maximum dub.”

Chilean Prog Ensemble AISLES Release New Live EP


“Live from Estudio del Sur”, a mini-album recorded live, is available on CD and digital platforms 

“Live from Estudio del Sur” is Aisles’ latest release. The EP was recorded at Estudio del Sur, and includes newly done versions of the songs “Clouds Motion”, “Shallow and Daft”, “Still Alive” and “Club Hawaii”. Germán Vergara, guitarist, describes it as “a blend between some of earliest and some of our newest compositions, all in the same set, with the current Aisles sound. 'Clouds Motion' is one of the first songs we recorded as a band. We also made a new version of 'Shallow and Daft, where we invited the singer Catalina Blanco from the band Téfiret. The last two tracks, 'Still Alive' and 'Club Hawaii', capture the hopeless atmosphere of our concept album 'Hawaii' and reflect what the band is doing nowadays. People will like the sound on the EP as the songs feel more organic and heavier that on the albums.”

Also, these songs were a series of live sessions filmed by director Bernardo Quesney, who has also worked with Chilean artists Gepe, Javiera Mena and Colombina Parra, among others.

BIOGRAPHY
With four studio albums, Aisles have become South America’s most acclaimed prog act of the last decade. Their daring combination of rock, fusion, jazz and world music illustrates the band's uniquely eclectic approach. The group has played in the Americas and Europe, and their albums have been published in Europe, North and South America, and Japan. In 2009, their second album, “In Sudden Walks”, was nominated for Best Foreign Record in the Italian Prog Awards and the group was invited to open the 11th Progressive Rock Festival Crescendo in France. Their third album, “4:45 AM” (2013) was widely acclaimed worldwide and was chosen among the best albums of that year in a number of specialized publications. “Hawaii” (July, 2016), their fourth studio album was called a “masterpiece” and named one of the albums of the year by media outlets such as Prog (England), Neoprog (France), Raw Ramp (England) and Chile's premiere rock magazine, Rockaxis. The band also toured Europe, Mexico and the United States for the first time in their career. Currently, the band is working on their fifth studio album, to be released in 2019, which will include songs described as “charged with complex emotions and with a more modern sound”.
