It is an extensive analog/digital studio featuring a modified classic 1980’s British Trident 24 recording console, an Otari MTR 90 2” analog tape machine, and a vintage Ampex 440c 1/4” 2 track analog tape machine. Along with classic outboard gear such as, the Neve Compressor 33609, Rupert Neve Designs Portico II Master Buss Processor, Neve 1074, Chandler ltd Germanium Compressor, and a host of other gear including an array of microphones, guitars & amplifiers. I love working in the analog domain because it sounds just like the records I grew up with in the 60’s and 70’s, nothing sounds like drums and bass on analog tape! I even recorded final mixes down to 1/4” tape and the mastering was done by David Glasser at Airshow Studios in Boulder, Colorado from those 1/4” tapes. No copy & paste, real performances from the heart!”

Drummer Mark Murdock To Release 3rd Solo Album “False Readings” Featuring Prog Legends Nektar

“False Readings” is drummer Mark Murdock’s third solo prog-rock release which features Fernando Perdomo, whom Mark performed with in the ‘Out to Sea Band’ on the 2022 Cruise to the Edge. Prog Music Artist Leon Alvarado To Release New Album “Charging The Electric Dream” Featuring Music Spanning Several Decades

Prog music artist Leon Alvarado will be releasing his new album “Charging The Electric Dream” on December 15th! According to Leon, “‘Charging The Electric Dream’ is a very personal record without any collaborators or guest musicians. If I were to describe it, I would say that it is an album of what I like to call headphone music, because it plays out more like a soundtrack that stimulates the listener’s imagination. Like many of my other records, you can hear my inspirations throughout the album. There are definitely nods to Brian Eno, Wendy Carlos, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis and Jean Michel Jarre. It is not a Prog album per se, but definitely something that Prog fans can appreciate.”

Says Leon, “‘Charging The Electric Dream’ refers to revitalizing material I recorded in response to the electronic music that influenced me throughout the years.  I am giving it a new life by releasing it for the very first time.”

The music on the album was recorded periodically over a span of several decades. To reflect this, the artwork shows a collage of Leon’s face constructed of passport photos taken over many years. A video for the title track will be released concurrently. A short film titled “Outside The Dream” will follow the release.

Primarily known for his record label and music promotion artwork, in 2008 Leon Alvarado released his first album, “Plays Genesis and Other Original Stuff” as an ode to one of his favorite bands. Since then, he has released several records and worked alongside an impressive list of well-known musicians such as Rick Wakeman, Bill Bruford, Billy Sherwood, Jon Davison (Yes), John Goodsall (Brand X), Trey Gunn (King Crimson), Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, KC), Jerry Marotta, (Peter Gabriel), John Helliwell (Supertramp), Tony Franklin (The Firm), Johnny Bruhns, (Circa), Edoardo Scordo, Damian Darlington (Brit Floyd), Ty Tabor (King’s X) to name a few.

Leon’s musical output can be categorized as a blend of Prog Rock with Ambient, some Classical and a measure of Fusion. Each piece, as well as his library as a whole, is a constantly evolving musical landscape that can simultaneously embrace the listener in familiarity, while embarking on exciting and experimental journeys of sound.

Guitar Virtuoso Mike Campese Releases 11th Album “Reset”

It was 2020 during a global pandemic and Mike Campese was locked in his studio, composing and recording over 21 songs. As the world and his life were simultaneously resetting, Mike crafted 12 new songs and the album, “Reset,” was born.  

The 11th solo album by virtuoso guitarist/composer, Mike Campese, is 58 minutes long, consists of 12 songs featuring 6 instrumental and 6 vocal tracks. The album also features amazing drumming by drummer Patrick Johansson.

The album kicks off with a driving, classical rock composition, “Fire,” then straight into the heavy, rhythmic track, “Bee Eater,” followed by haunting melodies in “Tension in Motion” and a never-before dance track, “Dance.”

Like all of Mike’s albums, there is something for everyone. The title track, “Reset,” is a bluesy offering while "Waisted Time" follows the ever-popular ballad theme. Mike revisits his youth of wanting an elephant in his backyard with the rock-driven, slide tune, “Elephants in the Backyard.” Mike’s love for funk is expressed in “Talker” and “Let it Ride,” proving that Mike can lay down a groove and make it his own. Lastly, “Space Dragon,” inspired by the space mission to Mars was created and will give you the feeling of being in space.

Says Mike, “Most of this album was recorded during the pandemic and some of it was done before. I ended up writing and recording 23 songs. I had more time to focus on writing and recording. Normally, If I’m not traveling, I would record a song or two and then head out on the road and then come back to recording after I returned home. It took a bit longer that way. Having the extra time to focus on the recordings was great and I can take my time. There are some reasons why I called the album, ‘Reset.’ One of them is because the world is resetting after and during the pandemic, which the planet can fix itself over time after a disaster. The issue can be the people on the planet are destroying it with pollution, overconsumption and more. Also, as the world is resetting there are some new beginnings in my life that I have been exploring. I think it is important for a musician to always improve themselves in life and music.”

Mike Campese is known as a guitar virtuoso, he is an all-around music performer, session artist competent in many musical styles, electric and acoustic. He is best known for being a member of the multi-platinum group, The Trans-Siberian Orchestra and received a gold record for his work. Mike has been featured in many national guitar magazines such as Guitar Player, Guitar World, Guitar One, Axe Magazine and Guitar Club in Italy. Currently, Mike writes for Italy’s top magazines and has his own monthly guitar column in Axe Magazine in Italy.  Mike has played with and shared the stage with many well known artists, he has released 11 solo albums in his name and tours all over the world. Mike is a versatile musician who describes his style as “Rock Fusion” and writes vocal and instrumental arrangements, electric and acoustic.

Bryan Ferry Guitarist Quist To Release New Atmospheric Album “Breathing Space” November 18, 2022

Quist is a Danish guitarist & artist based in Los Angeles. He has already toured the world many times as a guitarist, most recently being featured as lead guitarist with UK art rock legend Bryan Ferry (Roxy Music), who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. He was featured on Bryan Ferry's album “Avonmore” (2014), alongside Nile Rodgers, Mark Knopfler, Johnny Marr, Flea and Marcus Miller – subsequently touring the world for several years in various incarnations of Ferry’s band.

Quist’s forthcoming solo album “Breathing Space” was recorded in 2022, in his studio in North Hollywood, Los Angeles. It’s a chill, dreamlike sonic universe - with lush keyboards, melodic, bluesy guitar licks and atmospheric field recordings. The album drifts through calming atmospheres of dreamy sounds with layers of meditative drums.

The album’s title and concept was born out of the Pandemic/lockdown life we all lived through and was inspired by this quote from French philosopher Albert Camus: “To understand one's world, one must sometimes turn away from it! To serve better, one must briefly hold it at a distance. Where can the necessary solitude be found, the long breathing space in which mind gathers its strength and takes stock of its courage.”

The music was essentially created both to provide comfort and joy at the time of its making, but also especially to (hopefully) bring a sense of calm and joy to listeners.

Says Quist, “I just hope the music can help folks slow down once in a while, relax, take a deep breath, give themselves a little breathing space and just chill and take a moment to wind down.”

Situated in a chilled, guitar-centric corner of the popular lofi genre, ‘Breathing Space’ features 3 prominent lofi artists – Kanisan (France), softy (South Korea) & Steezy Prime (USA), with a combined listenership of 5 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone.

The first single (title track Breathing Space) was released on September 30 - and the full album is released November 18 on Sonder House.

Quist has performed at The Royal Albert Hall, The Hollywood Bowl, Coachella, Glastonbury and Abbey Road Studios, as well as on many prime time international TV & radio shows. Through years of touring whilst simultaneously posting his trademark ‘jam tracks’ on YouTube, Quist has found an audience of his own – gaining a whopping 150 million views on YouTube, 500k monthly listeners on Spotify and a rising profile as a pioneering solo artist. Claire Hamill is celebrating over 50 years in the music industry and she’s best known for her hit “Baseball Blues”, her work with Wishbone Ash and for writing Eva Cassidy’s hit “You Take My Breath Away”.

Claire Hamill released her much-loved debut album “One House Left Standing” on Chris Blackwell’s Island label in 1971 and worked with John Martyn, Steve Howe from Yes and a host of others as she developed her folk roots into new age music and beyond.

“A Pocketful of Love Songs” was written during lockdown and features songs from the heart on all aspects of love and life.

As unknowns and outsiders to Japan they attracted a multi-ethnic group of Japanese misfits and expatriates from around the globe who didn’t fit into the usual scene, steadily gathering an assortment of unlikely friends and collaborators in the clubs and pubs of Tokyo. The new THE BEAUTIFUL LOSERS album SAN FRANCISCO is a return to form for the group, who relocated to the US following the release of their 2010 album Four Corners of a Tiny Planet. Even though they have their roots and origins in Tokyo and still feel the pull of that city, the new album is called SAN FRANCISCO because this city is now their center. For them San Francisco is an iconic image representing a sort of promised land, a place of rebirth and renewal, a beacon of hope even as things may seem broken or desperate, all of which comes through thematically on the album.

There has always been a “multi-ethnic” theme in the production of their music, and on SAN FRANCISCO, recorded and mixed at Strawberry Hill Music studios in Northern California (www.strawberryhillmusic.com), THE BEAUTIFUL LOSERS worked with musicians and engineers from Brazil, China, and Korea. The album’s closing track includes a Japanese sitar-player and was recorded in their apartment in Tokyo back in the day, adding a cool nostalgic bonus to the release and bringing it all full circle. San Francisco and Tokyo have a strong connection to each other, which THE BEAUTIFUL LOSERS showcase in their music and in the upcoming video for their new track “I Will Always Be There.” The video is being animated by Giezelle Bernal, who also did the album art in the same style that highlights the strong connection between the two sister-cities that mean so much to THE BEAUTIFUL LOSERS.

Brett and Raj began writing and recording songs again for SAN FRANCISCO around 2019 before the start of the pandemic, and the album is dedicated to two friends that passed as a result of that tragedy. The first is “Thai Tom” who the duo met on a boat with their guitars on the way to a gig on a Thai island and discovered that he and Brett had the exact same birthday and year. Thai Tom brought them to a local temple to commemorate their fortuitous meeting, and they all became so close that Thai Tom eventually officiated the wedding of Raj and his wife. The album is also dedicated to Raj’s brother-in-law, who sadly passed during the pandemic, and also coincidentally shared the exact same birthday and year with Raj.

As THE BEAUTIFUL LOSERS, Raj and Brett have developed a devout fan base through relentless touring in support of major acts such as Coldplay, Indigo Girls, and Matt Nathanson, as well as song placements in MTV reality programs including Real Life Stories, Two-A-Days, and Parental Control. Virtuoso Guitarist Vinnie Moore To Release New Album “Double Exposure” With Guest Vocalists

NYC - The follow up to Vinnie’s 2019 “SOUL SHIFTER” will be released on November 8th on his Mind’s Eye Music label. Vinnie is joined by singers Ed Terry (Rage And Beyond, American Mafia), Keith Slack (MSG, Mother Road), Mike DiMeo (Riot) and Brian Stephenson (Old James) on this half vocal half instrumental album. This is his first solo release that features vocals. Band members include Richie Monica (Billy Cox, Papa Chubby, Tantric) on drums, Michael Bean and Pete Griffin (Steve Vai, Dweezil Zappa) on Bass, John Cassidy on Keyboards, and John Pessoni on Drums.

Vinnie has released ten solo albums and six albums and a LIVE DVD with rock icons UFO, and is considered to be one of the originators of shred guitar. He’s made many guest appearances with others and played and wrote the soundtrack for a classic PEPSI TV commercial. He’s recorded and toured with ALICE COOPER and was opening act for RUSH with his solo band on the ROLL THE BONES tour. Vinnie has toured all around the world with UFO and solo, and has two best selling guitar instructional videos. He has been an inspiration for fans and guitarists worldwide.

“This project started during the period when we were all grounded from touring. I had some song ideas and originally thought I’d do an instrumental EP with 5 or 6 songs. Before recording, I always do listening sessions with my demos to get production ideas. While playing “One Day”, I started hearing vocals in my head and naturally started singing along and it hit me that this would make a good vocal song. As I listened through the rest of the tunes, one by one I realized that they all could be vocal songs. It was a light bulb moment where I realized, ‘hey dummy, here’s the vocal thing you’ve been wanting to do’. So the idea to take a group of songs and create dual versions of each was born.

To set this all in motion, the next step was lining up singers. I knew right away that I wanted to collaborate with a few different vocalists I have known or worked with over the years. Keith Slack and Mike DiMeo quickly came to mind. I have known Keith for more than 20 years and we have always talked about working together. Mike has toured with me in the past as vocalist and keyboardist, so he was an obvious choice. Brian Stephenson opened for me on a tour in 2016 with his band Old James, I liked his voice and lyrics and knew he would be a good guy to collaborate with. Ed Terry and I were on a track together a couple years back. I really dug his voice and ideas and knew I wanted to work with him.

The only good thing about the world being shut down for months is that it gave me the time I needed to put this thing all together. It was a big undertaking. In between recording guitars, I would shift gears and go into phases where I sang and sketched out lyrics. It took some thought to decide which singer I wanted to be on which song. After that, I sent out the recordings with and without vocals and told everyone to be creative whether that meant totally following their own inspiration or using any of my ideas. In the end both things happened.”

Vinnie recently completed a European solo tour in May and a festival run with UFO during the summer.

The novel, written by Charles Shorwell, is set against the backdrop of the musical revolution that started with the Beatles and begins in 1968, a year after ‘The Summer of Love’ and follows the story of Daniel Luckham, a young classical pianist studying at the Royal College of Music. Seduced by the rock music scene and vibrant counter culture in London at that time, he contrives to leave college and pursue a career in ‘Rock’. But some bad decisions lead him down a dark and dangerous alley, populated by drug dealers, unscrupulous managers and femme fatales. On his journey to fulfil his dreams, Daniel finds his integrity challenged, and the innocence of youth cruelly stripped away.

The connection between the album and novel, unfortunately has to remain a secret, as to divulge that information would give away a key plot line in the novel. All that can be said is that the album represents a body of work recorded in the late 60s. Created by Darryl Way, the album features a guest vocal performance from Steve Hogarth of Marillion, on the track “Morpheus”.

Singer/Songwriter Aaron Rothko To Release Introspective Second Album “Joymaker”

Aaron Rothko is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist originally from New York, now living in New Orleans. He will be releasing his second album of introspective songs titled “Joymaker” on October 23, 2022.

Says Aaron, “The year leading up to the realization of this album was marred by grief, isolation, and illnesses both physical and mental. And yet, it is a year I look back upon incredibly fondly. It’s a year where I found an unexpected new home, falling in love with and in New Orleans, and learned more than I had in all four years of college (granted I never did the reading). ‘Joymaker’ is my way of making sense of having these incredibly positive and negative experiences in such a small span of time. The album follows no linear timeline, nor does it split this part of my life into good and bad; rather, it views it as a whole. There are no days where I only grieve, just as there are no days where I only feel secure, happy, and at home. These feelings coexist in me, they coexist in the album, and they coexist in each song itself.

This mix of powerful emotions is what led me to the idea of the ‘Joymaker.’ Someone who, even when gone, has such a strong presence and impact on one’s life, that they still bring happiness just by thinking of them. The loss of someone important can be devastating, but one’s life is better just for knowing them, and even in grief, one can still find joy. ‘Joymaker’ aims to find the beauty in these painful and difficult moments in hopes of allowing oneself some celebration as well.”

“Joymaker” is dedicated to Aaron’s late Grandmother, who was an incredibly talented artist. She was always encouraging of his pursuit in music, and proved that great art could come from anywhere. As soon as he started recording, Aaron knew he wanted to use one of her paintings as the album cover. Aaron explains, “I initially chose one of my favorite paintings of hers, a close-up of a lit match that hangs over my Grandparents’ fireplace. But I later came across the print that I ultimately chose as the cover: an image of a woman staring out the window at a pine tree. Such a simple piece, but it stuck with me. It seemed only fitting—a piece I never saw until after she died that was able to change my mind and deeply impact me. I’m still learning new things about her, and her importance and influence in my life stays constant. The design of the lettering on the cover was done by my cousin, Sean Cohen, who like our Grandmother, is also an incredibly gifted artist. We both knew that creating art, and working with one another would be the best way to honor her, and he jumped on the idea without hesitation.”

Aaron Rothko played music starting from a young age, and fell in love with songwriting as a teenager. Rothko began writing more seriously in his time at college, where he started to hone his songwriting skills and developed his own style and sound. Rothko’s music is best described as soothing and melancholy, with rich guitar sounds and heartfelt lyrics that utilize clever wordplay. ‘Joymaker’ is Rothko’s second full-length album, his first being ‘Man In The Tall Grass’ (2021), as well as a six song EP titled ‘Except/I Love You’ (2020). When not recording, Aaron is a music teacher, home gardener, and a proud dog dad. He studied Jazz Performance on Upright Bass at Vassar College, where he graduated in 2020.

In closing Aaron had these words to say about “Joymaker,” “This is an album mostly of introspection, and insight that I’ve found for myself might not be true for everyone. But I encourage everyone to do some self-reflection, and consider the ones around you. Go to therapy. Call your mother. Donate to abortion funds and vote.”

The Gatekeepers Musical/Concept Album Feat. The Residents, Shawn Phillips, Renaldo & The Loaf, R. Stevie Moore & Other Revered Progressive Musicians To Be Released Nov. 11, 2022

The Gatekeepers is a narrative concept album that explores the whole creative process from beginning to end. In this 12 song (and 3 interlude) cycle, the cynical aspects of marketing art and the pressure to appeal to mainstream audiences are explored, culminating in the battle for artistic freedom. A whimsical and bizarre feel pervades the  satisfying blend of progressive and left-field rock, jazz, and folk that accompanies the precise and biting lyric.

The Gatekeepers album creates a captivating musical contrast with a strong DIY lo-fi ethos. Occasionally hypnotic, sometimes turbulent, the eclectic mix is reminiscent of The Lamb Lies Down Broadway, Of Montreal, Kurt Weill, Canterbury prog such as National Health and Hatfield & The North, all with a nod to Zappa.

The album’s composer and mastermind Alex Wroten is joined by an array of highly acclaimed and unconventional vocalists to bring the story to life:  The Residents, Shawn Phillips, Brian Poole (Renaldo & The Loaf), R. Stevie Moore, Elaine di Falco (Yugen, Caveman Hughscore), Mont Campbell (Egg, National Health), Bob Drake, Amy Denio, Deborah Perry (Thinking Plague) and CHEER-ACCIDENT.

RUFFYUNZ is a partnership between Randy Pratt (Cactus/The Lizards), Emmy winning engineer JZ Barrell, and singer Ed Terry and a collection of drum, guitar and keyboard masters. Guest artists featured on the band’s new album “RUFFYUNZ II” legendary Bobby Rondinelli who dominates the drums (Black Sabbath, Rainbow, BOC), Don Airey (Deep Purple), Dave Maniketti (Y&T), Pat Thrall (Pat Travers, Glenn Hughes, Meatloaf), Tracy G. Bassist Randy Pratt on bass, pedals and riffs and is best known for his work with The Lizards & Cactus. Singer Ed Terry has sung live with Stevie Wonder, Sister Sledge, John Oates, Sissy Houston, Slash and recorded with John Lennon, Keith Richards, Talking Heads, Simply Red, Little Steven, David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Fleetwood Mac, David Lee Roth, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner! JZ Barrell handles recording, engineering, mixing and arranging…he earns his writing credits. Jesse Berlin is the band’s “go-to-first guitarist” usually and helps set a bedrock with embellishments.

The band’s concept is to use “known” drummers, guitarists and keyboardists as guests on their records. Once the guest guitarist has done his or her thing, Jesse trades solos with them…and he really throws down the gauntlet, as he SHREDS!!

Out Of The Archives Comes A Vintage Rarities Collection From Legendary British Rock Band HUMBLE PIE!

Los Angeles, CA – Fans of classic, hard-chargin’ blues rock take note! A superb collection of mid’70s rare recordings from blues rock institution Humble Pie is being released this month. I Need A Star In My Life features studio recordings from 1974-1976 with unmistakable HP vocalist Steve Marriott along with bassist Greg Ridley and guitarist Clem Clempson. Together this trio experimented with a variety of styles and sounds as they composed several new songs as well as rearranging songs by soul legend Sam Cooke, blues giant Bo Diddley, and others. King Crimson saxophonist Mel Collins even pops in for a special guest appearance!

These recordings have been completely digitally remastered and packaged with full liner notes from music journalist Dave Thompson. I Need A Star In My Life is available now on all formats including CD, digital and multiple vinyl configurations!
