New 7” Vinyl Commemorates HUMBLE PIE’s Fiery Performance Of “I DON’T NEED NO DOCTOR”!

Los Angeles, CA - In 1973 and throughout much of the early ‘70s, British blues rock powerhouse Humble Pie had as the centerpiece of their widely hailed and massively popular live show an epic, barnstorming blues rock cover of the 1966 R&B tune penned by Nick Ashford (of Ashford & Simpson), “I Don’t Need No Doctor.” In the hands (and voice) of vocalist Steve Marriott, the song would explode on the stage with a galloping drum beat and glorious backup vocals, breaking down in the middle for some extended guitar solos by the group’s two six-string slingers before Marriott would return to lead the crowd in a joyful call-and-response singing of the chorus like he was leading an old tent revival of spiritual ecstasy. So extraordinary was the band’s live version of the song, they never even attempted a studio version, however, an edited version of the band’s 1971 performance was released as a single and issue on 7”. Now, another even more fiery performance of the track, from the band’s 1973 concert at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom has been edited down and prepared for release on a limited edition 7” vinyl as well as on all digital music platforms.

This new 7” comes in your choice of either SILVER or PURPLE vinyl and includes a smokin’ hot studio version of another Humble Pie cover on the b-side, James Brown’s “Think!”

Classic Rock Icons Humble Pie's Long Lost Vintage Album "Joint Effort" Finally Sees The Light Of Day!

Los Angeles, CA - In 1974, one of the biggest and best blues rock bands of all-time, the great Humble Pie, began recording an album at their own home-built studio called Clear Sounds. The result was a raw and fiery collection of originals and covers that was promptly and unceremoniously shelved by the band’s label, never to see the light of day…that is, until now! Joint Effort, a title given to the project early on that reflected the collaboration between Humble Pie founders Steve Marriott and Greg Ridley, is a reunion album of sorts in that Marriott had recently walked out of the group. But a near miss at taking Mick Taylor’s spot in The Rolling Stones plus renewed interest in the band Stateside coaxed Marriott back into the Pie alongside guitarist Dave Clempson and drummer Jerry Shirley.

With never before heard original compositions plus blazing covers of James Brown (“Think”), The Beatles (“Rain”) and soul icon Betty Wright (“Let Me Be Your Lovemaker”), Joint Effort is a must own for any self-respecting Humble Pie fan. The album comes packaged with full liner notes and rare photos on both CD as well as vinyl in your choice of purple or white! Available everywhere February 8.

Track List:
1. Think
2. This Ol' World
3. Midnight Of My Life
4. Let Me Be Your Lovemaker
5. Rain
6. Snakes & Ladders
7. Good Thing
8. A Minute Of Your Time
9. Charlene
10. Think 2

Immediate Records Presents "Humble Pie On 79th Street" Limited Edition Vinyl LP - A Secret Release For Record Store Day UK April 21

With Record Store Day fast approaching, you won’t find this special compilation LP by one of the UK’s most iconic bands in any store on April 21st. Except one. “Humble Pie On 79th Street” will only be available from Pie & Vinyl.

Obvious? Or are we bucking the trend of Record Store Day in the manner that Andrew Loog Oldham, legendary founder of Immediate Records and Rolling Stones manager might have done? Or does this oneoff LP celebrate the spirit of RSD more than any other release?

Inspired by the beautiful pied-piperess Katherine who led us all to Pie & Vinyl and discoveries that linked her vibrant, musical town of Portsmouth & Southsea, an amazing record store and the timeless sounds of Humble Pie to dramatic events in Southsea over 40 years ago that culminated in a truly local effort to press the LP in Portsmouth and have it on sale in Southsea for Saturday April 21.

Says Immediate Records reissue producer Rob Caiger: “Wouldn’t it be great if by doing all of this, a new fan on Record Store Day discovers Humble Pie - in Pie & Vinyl - and feels the same excitement hearing ‘Natural Born Bugie’ as I did in my own local record shop Downtown Records many years ago. There’s no better place to hear new sounds (however old…) then in a record shop - and that’s just one reason why we should celebrate Record Store Day.”

One of the first supergroups, Humble Pie formed in 1969 and soon became one of the best-loved, hardest-rocking live acts of the 1970s. In Steve Marriott, the one-time Small Faces frontman, Pie had the best showman and biggest voice in the business. Peter Frampton, ‘Face Of ‘68’ with The Herd, had a new role - guitar hero. And with hard-hitting drummer Jerry Shirley and ex-Spooky Tooth bassist Greg Ridley, Humble Pie quickly developed into a sophisticated studio unit where tough riffs, rustic rock and bursts of blissed-out late psychedelia earned the band instant chart success and critical acclaim.

Supervised by Peter Frampton & Jerry Shirley, all songs have been newly remastered by Nick Robbins at Soundmastering and cut halfspeed by Matt Colton at Alchemy Studios. ‘79th Street Blues’ (take 7) was recorded at Olympic Studios on 3 January 1970 and mixed by Rob Keyloch at Church Walk Studios exclusively for this LP and will not appear anywhere else.

Strictly limited to 1,000 LPs pressed in Portsmouth at Vinyl Presents. On sale in Southsea on Record Store Day at Pie & Vinyl and worldwide from April 22 for one week via www.pieandvinyl.co.uk. Any remaining LPs after this period will be sold worldwide via www.immediate-records.com
