The Fall were an English post-punk band, formed in 1976 in Prestwich, Greater Manchester. They underwent many line-up changes, with vocalist and founder Mark E. Smith as the only constant member.
First associated with the late 1970s punk movement, the Fall’s music has always pushed & challenged boundaries, with Mark. E. Smith at the helm on and off stage, the band has always been characterised by an abrasive, repetitive guitar-driven sound and tense bass and drum rhythms, along with Smith’s caustic lyrics, described by critic Simon Reynolds as “a kind of Northern English magic realism that mixed industrial grime with the unearthly and uncanny, voiced through a unique, one-note delivery somewhere between amphetamine-spiked rant and alcohol-addled yarn.”
The Fall have been called “the most prolific band of the British post-punk movement.” From 1979 to 2017, they released thirty-two studio albums. They were long associated with BBC disc jockey John Peel, who championed them from early on in their career and described them as his favourite band, famously explaining, “they are always different; they are always the same.” Earlier this year, Smith died at the age of 60, effectively putting an end to the group.

British Post-Punk Veterans 1919 Return With A Brand New Masterpiece Of Darkly Melodic Goth Rock, FUTURECIDE!
Los Angeles, CA - Like the mythic phoenix rising from the ashes, British post-punk band 1919 have gone through Hell and back over the course of their harrowing career, but they keep returning stronger than ever! Founded in 1980, the band released its debut album Machine in 1983 and one EP a year later before calling it quits. However, the band reformed in 2014 to great acclaim, performing numerous tours and at festivals across Europe. Then, tragedy struck as the band’s founding guitarist Mark Tighe was diagnosed with cancer in 2016 and succumbed to the disease in January 2017. Tighe insisted that the band should carry on without him, which they have done in finest form with their newest effort Futurecide. The album, which will be officially released on April 12 via Cleopatra Records, features brand new compositions and includes special guest performances by Tighe as well as former member Steve Madden, who also passed away this year. The first single, “Anxiety,” was released at the end of 2018 when it debuted on Post-Punk.com (https://www.post-punk.com/british-post-punk-veterans-1919-premiere-their-video-for-anxiety/).
The newly revamped and reinvigorated 1919 will be touring extensively in support of this release kicking off with shows in Mexico City and Costa Rica. Difficulties with visas caused their US tour in April to be delayed until September but several dates in the UK and Europe are still planned. This comes at a time when international travel has become ever more difficult due to the isolationist policies of both the US and British governments, an issue that band itself tackles head on in the song “Isolation,” whose chorus states “I hope your flag keeps you warm. You’d be a lucky man. Enjoy your isolation.”

Los Angeles, CA – The Bostonian indie/dance/electronic/funk/pop group Radclyffe Hall was selected as Band Of The Day on the music & culture website post-punk.com and will be premiering a new video for the song "Rather Be" on the site. "Rather Be" is the second single from Radclyffe Hall’s groundbreaking new album, Ghosts, available now at all digital retailers from Cleopatra Records.
"Rather Be" stars the group’s founder and front-woman, Dhy Berry, and begins with the entrance of two identically, professionally dressed versions of herself. As the two unenthusiastically take a seat at the judge’s table, a five-piece band of suspiciously similar looking women begin to play the unforgettable groove of “Rather Be.” Over the course of the performance toes begin to tap and the judges’ expressions shift from apathetic to inspired. At the close of the tune, with a fitting response from the judges, we see Dhy’s journey of self-actualization completed.

Radclyffe Hall began in Boston as an experiment in analog and digital production. Steeped in rock, funk, and R&B, Dhy Berry started developing groove-heavy demos before developing them into fully fledged pop songs. Turning fear into agency and loss into catharsis, RH makes glo-fi anthems for the bedroom and the dance floor alike. This energy can be heard throughout the new album, Ghosts, as Berry wrote many of the songs while working toward a graduate degree. No surpise then that Berry chose to name the group after a highly influential English poet in lesbian literature. This tumultuous time in Berry’s life resulted in a rich body of work that can be heard on both “Rather Be” and Ghosts.

Asheville, NC - Psychedelic Post-Punk band Bulgogi have finally released their highly anticipated third album “Juan Dissed The Cyclops Baby”! The band's music has been described as a “twitchy, dancey, textural adventure through nightscapes, static dreams and startlingly sweet melodies.” Howling with operatic falsettos, pounding with sad giant drums and textured with incorporeal, corpse-lit guitars, “Juan Dissed The Cyclops Baby” is a soggy, serene sermon of schadenfreude for the mad children of today. The message: be free, be crazy, espouse chaos. Eat man flesh.
Bulgogi, Korean for “fire meat,” is a type of marinated beef, a dish of some repute. The quartet seems to channel its power from the concept of this flaming meat. Says frontman Tim Tsurutani, “Life is foggy and misty as hell. Sometimes things are beautiful. Sometimes things are the opposite of that. Mostly, things are boring or just confusing. Fortunately, some people have incredible visions of reality that transcend the mundane stuff. 'Juan Dissed The Cyclops Baby' pays homage to that-not knowing what the hell is going on and being enraged by what we see happening but at the same time maybe having a fool's faith that there's something bigger out there? Something cosmic we hope? Cthulhu?”
It all started with one dude in a damp basement in West Asheville, NC. Bedroom recordings of endless guitar tracks spilled over dance beats made up the bones, muscle and fat of Bulgogi's first release, “Give Up Your Guts”, a series of eerie but pretty dance punk tunes. After 2014's sophomore release, “Bibimbap”, Bulgogi became a four piece and set out to record a rock opera. Many sweaty and feverish shows later, chronic ADHD had reduced the rock opera to perhaps a 4 song EP instead.
With the help of a young local producer, the lads finally managed to piece together “Juan Dissed The Cyclops Baby”, a gleeful and manic amalgam of prog rock, psychedelic, post punk and a certain je ne sais quois.
Says bassist Galen, “Writing the songs together was very exciting because we had only just become a four piece and were still learning who we all were. At first we wanted to call the album 'Jaundiced Cyclops Baby' and people were like, 'why? That name is terrible.' To us, it kind of represented like a gestational period. We were all experiencing weird post adulthood growing pains. Pressure to be successful and not really getting there was haunting us. We wanted a lot of people to hear our music, but it was hard because we were poor and had to work day jobs. It took us awhile to be able to prioritize what we were doing and somehow that title seemed appropriate. Then we realized it actually sucked and changed it to 'Juan Dissed The Cyclops Baby' which is borderline nonsense. Ah well.”
GALEN plays bass. He might be a college graduate.
RYAN plays guitar like it is a modular synthesizer and is generally a confused person.
HUGH plays drums. His real name is probably Hubert. His hair is red.
TIM sings and plays guitar. He is the sexiest member. It is not close.
Here's what the press has said about Bulgogi:
“A twitchy, dancey, textural adventure through nightscapes, static dreams and startlingly sweet melodies.Tsurutani's lyrics may be tongue-in-cheek at points, but his acrobatic vocal abilities are no joke.” - Alli Marshall, Mountain Xpress
“A wonderfully hook-filled sound that's at once intense and hauntingly melodic.” - Peter Hay, Twinvision
“The Asheville psychedelic dance punks brought a ton of weirdness to the table on their January release, BIBIMBAP. We’re glad they did, because Weird Kids Don't Love might be our favorite song from the tarheel state this year.” - Future Chord
In support of the new album, the band plans to produce a music video featuring bizarre monsters terrorizing a man driving a modest sedan. “We seem to have a guilty pleasure for launching assaults on the everyday humdrum of modern life,” says singer Tsurutani. “Also we have a friend who is amazing at costume design, so why not?”
In closing Bulgogi has this to impart, “Don’t be afraid. Don’t let fear and selfishness breed oppression. No one is free until everyone is free.”
