Multi-instrumentalist Mike Ian Releases New Americana Album “Waterworks Junction - Time Will Tell”

New release under the band name“Waterworks Junction” - A work from longtime friends and collaborators Matt Janda & Mike Ian and introducing Gab Howarth.

New music with an Americana, Rootsy vibe to it with elements of Bluegrass. Some of these tunes date back to the late 90’s where Mike & Matt recorded demos at Mike’s home studio, Eyeball Studios in NJ. At that time the tunes had a more progressive, Peter Gabriel type vibe with Mike performing instrumentation and both Mike and Matt performing vocal duties. Mike had met Gabby a few years back and was quite impressed by her vocals. The two started gigging together quite frequently. Matt then approached Mike at one of their gigs with the idea of having Gab do vocals for a resurrection of these older tunes. A female approach if you will.

The three members fine tuned these tunes both musically and lyrically over the course of a year and were quite happy with how it was shaping out. Mike had the chance to perform on a multitude of acoustic instruments including mandolin, pedal steel, upright bass, drums, piano, etc.  And various guest artists performed throughout. It turned into a full 14 song album entitled “Waterworks Junction - Time Will Tell” - The story of a woman from adolescence to her senior navigating the landscape of her life, loves, contemplations, desperations, and all of the other fabrics weaving the tapestry of her life. From a carefree childhood, through marriage, World War I, childbirth, the depression, World War II, the 50’s, the turbulent 60’s, and into the second Age of Enlightenment- the 70’s.

The artwork was once again done by Mike’s daughter, Ivy whom also did last years release “The Learning Tree”

Rock Legend Michael Hutchence Unreleased Tracks Featured on “One Way” Limited Edition Red 10-Inch Picture Disc - Available From Deko Entertainment and Boss Sonics on July 19th

Stockton, NJ - In the pantheon of all-time great front men, the late Michael Hutchence seat at the table is secured. A consummate “rock star” if there ever was one, he embodied the spirit and smoldering swagger of rock ‘n’ roll while possessing one of the most iconic voices in the contemporary music scene. So, it was with an earth-rattling shudder when tragically he passed away in 1997, leaving a mind-numbingly impressive legacy across the entertainment realm.

A decade or so after Michael’s death a batch of unreleased ideas surfaced in a tape locker in London. Producer Danny Saber (Rolling Stones, U2, Bowie, and Black Grape who sparked Hutchence’ initial interest in Saber) had been collaborating with Michael from 1995 up until days before his death and was approached to assess the find. In going through the ideas, it became immediately apparent this would be something worth exploring, so he began the process of developing and producing finished masters with a view to putting together some sort of release.

Saber then set about the task of getting a documentary film made that would center around the discovery and provide a vehicle, not only to tell Michael’s story but also promote the music. After getting traction with Directors such as Julian Temple and Mark Pellington, etc…, the “Last Rockstar” directed by Mark Llewellen known as a maverick with a penchant for fearless storytelling down under was finally released in 2017, its airing limited to Australian/New Zealand TV. While some portions of these songs were featured in the documentary, the fully mastered versions had never been released. Until now.

With a legacy that extends over four decades, beginning with the iconic multi-platinum band INXS, who have sold over 50 million albums worldwide, as well as his solo projects, Hutchence was an unbridled talent whose cultural significance knew few bounds. Even in death, his impact continues. This unreleased material is a true piece of musical history and will forever solidify Michael Kelland Hutchence as the brilliant singer/songwriter he is.

Badfinger Legend Tom Evans Rare Home Recordings “I Am Myself” Available On Y&T Music June 5, 2024!

“I Am Myself” is a collection of never-before-heard home demo recordings by Liverpool’s Tom Evans, bassist and co-lead singer of the iconic power pop group Badfinger. It will be released as a limited-edition CD by Y&T Music and available on all streaming platforms on June 5, 2024 to celebrate what would have been Tommy’s 77th birthday.

Like his Badfinger bandmate Pete Ham, Tom Evans was a prolific songwriter; he gave the quartet many of their greatest ‘deep cuts,’ including “Money,” “It’s Over,” “Believe Me” and “Blind Owl.” Evans and Ham co-wrote “Without You,” which went to No. 1 for both Harry Nilsson and Mariah Carey, and is considered by many to be one of the greatest pop ballads of all time.

He sang lead on “Come And Get It,” Badfinger’s smash hit debut, written and produced by Paul McCartney; his soaring tenor voice made “Maybe Tomorrow,” recorded for the Beatles’ Apple Records when they were still calling themselves The Iveys, an international sensation.

Among the 21 tracks on “I Am Myself,” two went on to be recorded by The Iveys/Badfinger: “Fisherman,” and “No Escaping Your Love”.

Performed mainly on acoustic or electric guitar, with frequent vocal and instrumental overdubs, the album’s freewheeling musicality, lyrical playfulness and clever song-construction showcase Tommy’s songwriting talents at an early period in his musical career.

“I Am Myself” came to be after a long review of material. While reviewing Iveys demo recordings, Tom Brennan discovered that there was more than enough material of Tom Evans’ solo recordings to put together a robust album. Before Brennan could even present the idea, mastering engineer Kevin McElligott proposed the idea of a Tom Evans solo album. McElligott felt strongly that the time was long overdue for Tommy’s demos to have a formal release: “Such a supremely talented singer/songwriter who struck an emotional chord within so many. I felt a real strong responsibility to Marianne, Stephen and the Badfinger community to bring these songs out sounding as best they can. This is just the beginning of hopefully many more releases. It’s an honor for me to sit down and work on these tracks. I do hope everyone enjoys this release.” Everything just came together like it was meant to be. Badfinger historian Dan Matovina made the initial digital transfers. The recordings were then compiled & edited by Tom Brennan, and restored & mastered by Kevin McElligott.

Stephen and Marianne spent time listening to these songs during the process of putting this project together, as well as contributing photos to this album. Tim Boyle gave permission to use some of his pictures for this project and was excited to hear about a new Tommy album, as he is an Evans family friend and worked closely with the band as a booking agent and an assistant for many years.

Released with the full support and cooperation of the Evans Estate, “I Am Myself” is a limited edition of 1,000 CDs. An art print of a rare early photo of Tom is included.

Earlier in 2024, Y&T Music issued “Gwent Gardens,” a collection of unreleased demo recordings by the late Pete Ham.

Allstar Project Studio D’lux To Release New Single “Not in a Million Years” Featuring Members From Chicago, Steely Dan & Billy Joel

“Not In a Million Years” is the new single from the allstar project led by singer/songwriter/keyboardist Doug Kistner. On this track trumpeter Lee Loughnane of Chicago adds his iconic horn sound to this new Studio D’Lux melodic song. Jon Herington of Steely Dan plays a beautifully constructed guitar solo. On drums is the famed rock drummer Liberty Devitto, supplying the groove.

Doug Kistner has played keyboards with Trans-Siberian orchestra, John Waite, Blood, Sweat & Tears. Currently with The Lords of 52nd Street and Glen Burtniks Summer of Love.

Says Doug, “It’s a dream band really. Hearing all these super talented musicians add their parts to the song is the best part of this thing. We’ve just been going song by song, releasing singles with this special project. We’ve been using some different musicians depending on the song which is such a luxury, but I’m proud to say Liberty Devitto is the drummer on all of them. I’m thrilled to finally work with Lee Loughnane, Chicago’s trumpet player since their inception. Along with his fantastic Chicago style brass arrangement, he also plays a very lyrical solo. Jon Herington has been very much a part of this project. He is a brilliant player and knows exactly how to approach a solo and a guitar part for the given song.”

“Not in a Million Years” is the first love song for Studio D’Lux. Says Doug, “I think that kind of lyric works perfectly with the melody. The next song we will do is a little dark, cinematic but powerful. I am hoping to start playing some shows live. It would be the Studio D’Lux songs with classic songs by Steely, Doobies, Toto etc..”

Prog Artist Leon Alvarado Announces Pink Floyd Influenced New Album “The Changing Tide” Released May 31, 2024

US prog artist Leon Alvarado is excited to unveil his newest album, “The Changing Tide.” Set to release on May 31st, this highly anticipated album follows the successful EP release, which previewed two of the album's tracks; a captivating cover of Pink Floyd's “Brain Damage,” and the enchanting instrumental “Dance of The Pink Elephants.”

Alvarado explains, “The creation of 'The Changing Tide' was very much influenced by the musical heritage of Pink Floyd. We aimed to seamlessly blend their timeless formula with our unique styles to produce material that charts its own course.”

While acknowledging the influence of Pink Floyd as a foundational element, Alvarado emphasizes the infusion of his own creative perspective. “Listeners can anticipate a departure of sorts from my previous works,” he shares, “yet they'll find my hallmark keyboard textures and atmospheric nuances intricately woven throughout.”

This project started with little seeds, and now it’s growing and growing and the players again are wonderful. I know that lyrically even though Milen, who writes all the songs, it’s not his native language, but his grasp of the English language is probably a lot better than many English and American people I know. The songs are great, it’s an interesting album, there is some pretty rocky stuff on this one, and I see influences from bands like Queen, progressive music, pop music and really deep meaning songs.”

Says Simon Phillips (Drummer on IMP II, III, IV, V, VII, VIII), “As with any project that repeats and makes more than one album, it changes. The style evolves, it becomes stronger and that is what I believe has happened with Intelligent Music Project.”

Ernest Tibbs (Bass player on IMP IV & VIII) adds, “Simon and I, we’ve been playing together for many years and Simon invited me to be a part of the project a second time. “Before we got our first record deal,” explains EZ’s founding lead vocalist Donnie Vie, “Chip and I had written and demoed at least 50 pretty good songs. It was hard to choose which ones to shop. We basically put together what we felt would be a great record and shopped it as that. Needless to say, the label loved it, so we went to work re-recording it on a grander scale (and waste $200K. YES Legend Jon Anderson and The Band Geeks Release New Album “TRUE” on August 23rd, Debut Single and Video Premiere Mid-June!

After a highly successful 2023 tour with The Band Geeks, Jon Anderson decided to expand the creative partnership with the band to create new material for a potential new studio album. The result of this effort is “TRUE” which will be released on August 23 by Jon’s new label, Frontiers Music. The 9-song album will be a welcome gift to all fans of Jon’s 40 years as lead vocalist of the multi platinum Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee YES. The album’s collection of songs harkens back to YES’s classic 70’s sounds as well as to their latter day success with the album “90125”. The album’s release will be preceded by 2 singles and videos, the first arriving mid June for the song “Shine On”. The album was co-produced, engineered, and mixed by Band Geek bassist and musical director Richie Castellano.

Jon and The Band Geeks embark on their summer 2024 tour starting May 30th in New Brunswick, NJ.  The tour will encompass three legs and will run through September. Additional September dates will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

Prog Ensemble Circuline Releases Official Video For New Single “All”

Prog ensemble Circuline’s 2024 “C.O.R.E.” Virtual Tour began Friday, January 12th, 2024, and will consist of 57 events in 48 weeks, with Single releases, Lyric videos, Official videos, “Behind the Scenes” videos, and Livestream Q&A events where the band is able to connect with their fans around the world.

Says keyboardist Andrew Colyer, “With this international virtual tour, we have two goals: 1.) We want to get our music exposed to as many people as possible, to continue to grow our fan base worldwide. 2.) We want to deepen our relationships with the fans who are the most passionate. Releasing singles, lyric videos, and Official Videos accomplishes the first goal, and by doing these in-depth, ‘Behind the Scenes’ videos, we accomplish the second goal. Packaging everything together into a single 12-month celebration of the new album will hopefully capture more attention for future opportunities for live performing and touring, with this fantastic new lineup.”

For this Official Video for “All”, it’s the third single off the new album, and also the 100th video the band produced on their YouTube channel! Says Andrew about the new video, “I had worked with Don Chaffin of DCity Productions twice before, with the progressive metal band Awaken. Don and his team are amazing, so I knew that they would do a great job of capturing our personalities, as well as the intensity of our music, and translate that with the editing into something cinematic that we could be proud of.  We got the entire band here for a week in August 2023, and shot six Official Music Videos in five days!  For this particular video, we chose to shoot on Don’s soundstage, with some concert-style lighting and fog machines. This is one of the more “progressive” songs on the record, so it was really nice to have the crew doing closeups during the extended instrumental section of the song.  When we shot this video, we were playing to the rough mix of the song, and Dave was actually improvising some of his guitar parts, which were not fully flushed out for the record.  When we recorded his final tracks, we used the B-roll that his wife Sharon filmed, so Dave could record the guitar parts that he had created during the video shoot!  We had a ton of fun that day, and discussed all the details in our “Behind the Official Video” episodes. We got the entire band here for a week in August 2023, and shot six Official Music Videos in five days!  The rest of the videos for this 2024 CORE Virtual Tour are being produced in other creative ways.  We’ve had so much fun creating all of the videos for this Virtual Tour - we’ve been “on location” in basement dungeons, on rivers, in parking lots, and on soundstage studios.   This has been a lot of work, and a ton of fun!  We hope the fans enjoy it.”

Six years in the making, Circuline’s new album “C.O.R.E.”, released on the Inner Nova Music label on Friday, September 20th, 2024, will be available as an album of eight tracks available in a gatefold digipak CD, with an eight-page booklet of lyrics and liner notes. Dutch Music Legends Focus Announce New Studio Album “FOCUS 12” Available July 5, 2024

Spirit of Unicorn Music are pleased to announce the forthcoming release of “FOCUS 12”, the brand new studio album from Focus.

Founded by Thijs van Leer, Focus have been at the forefront of the progressive music movement since 1969, yet they still continue to deliver engaging, innovative and skillfully crafted music. “FOCUS 12” exemplifies this and proves why they are still a firm fan favourite, the world over.

For Thijs van Leer (75) and Pierre van der Linden (78), age is nothing more than a number. Both continue to contribute to Focus with a passion. Thijs, who has written the majority of the new album, rises at 4.30 am every day in order to work on his compositions. Whilst the album boasts some of Pierre’s greatest and most energetic drum sequences to date.

Allowing the younger guard to take the audio reins for the first time, “FOCUS 12” is produced by band members Udo Pannekeet and Menno Gootjes, who also contribute two compositions on the album.

Thijs commented “How beautiful life can be when a band plays so easily and so together.”

“FOCUS 12” was recorded at the world-renowned Wisseloord Studios, in the band’s native country of the Netherlands. A first for Focus, the album features a completely improvised piece which was captured as it spontaneously took place in the studio, during the recording process. Thus, proving that more than 50 years on, the band are still excited by undertaking something new and different.

Van Leer continues, “Thanks Pierre, Udo and Menno for so much musical passion!”

The band continues their long association with legendary artist Roger Dean whose stunning artwork graces the front cover and packaging. The vinyl version features a stunning gatefold sleeve.

Focus continues to be one of the hardest working rock bands on the planet, regularly touring the globe playing live. This July, they undertake a string of live dates across the USA and Canada, as part of Asia’s Heat Of The Moment Tour.

The successor and companion to Only Half There, Devin’s collection of personal and professional photographs in overexposed + underdeveloped trace his journey from childhood in Canada through teen years in different bedrooms, on to his professional career and beyond parenthood. Professionally taken photographs of Devin’s time with Steve Vai follow those from his brief stint as a model and continue onto performance photos and unprofessionally taken snaps of life on the road and in the studio with among others, Strapping Young Lad, Jason Newsted, the Devin Townsend Project, and various puppets.

Captions written by Devin recall memories and details of people, places, haircuts, and strange happenings. The majority of photographs are being published for the first time in overexposed + underdeveloped – among them the infamous poses taken in the Green Room of The Jay Leno Tonight Show following the Steve Vai performance which launched the sex & religion album in 1993.
