Featured Track: Grant Maloy Smith-I See You

Grant Maloy Smith has a beautiful track titled "I See You."  Grant is the performing artist and it was co-written by Mike Greenly.

This is one of the most moving and powerful tracks I have heard in quite some time. The video is what really gets you. It will touch your heart and soul.

The acoustic guitar and vocals are a perfect match and I felt chills and wanted to cry watching the video. It reminded me of those that have passed and the direction we are all headed one day.

It was released with the support of Masterpiece Living, an organization dedicated to creating better lives for our elders.
They adopted the track due to their work.

This is country, folk, and Americana at its very best and if this track does not touch you in some way you had better check for a pulse!

Grant Maloy Smith is a Billboard Top 10 recording artist and Music Row Country Breakout charting songwriter of AMERICAN ROOTS music. His latest album, Dust Bowl - American Stories spent 17 weeks on the Billboard charts, including eleven weeks in the Top 10.

New Track By Rockabilly Legend ROBERT GORDON Features Revered Country Guitarist STEVE WARINER

Los Angeles, CA - Grammy and Country Music Association award winning songwriter/guitarist/artist Steve Wariner has teamed up with a true living musical legend, rockabilly crooner Robert Gordon, for a unique collaboration that will have music fans up on their feet! The track, a cover of the rollicking 1956 single penned and performed by icon Jerry Reed, “I’ve Had Enough,” finds Wariner ripping it up on guitar as Gordon belts out the lyrics with a fiery passion and precision that can only come after decades of experience as a musical performer. Gordon is no stranger to heavy hitting guitar sidekicks with years of fruitful collaborations with six-string slingers Link Wray, Chris Spedding and Danny Gatton. “I’ve Had Enough” was produced by fellow rockabilly icon, and a celebrated guitarist in his own right, Danny B. Harvey, as part of a full-length Robert Gordon album, Rockabilly For Life, featuring a host of friends such as Spedding, The Stooges’ James Williamson, David Letterman’s Paul Shaffer, Blondie’s Clem Burke and a whole lot more!

Harvey shares this about Wariner’s contribution, “When suggesting guests to appear on the new Robert Gordon album I was producing, I suggested Steve Wariner knowing it was more a wishful long shot than an actual possibility. But then his management got back to us right away that Steve was very interested and I couldn’t contain my excitement! Steve Wariner is to ‘80s/’90s country guitar picking what Jeff Beck was to ‘60s rock and Eddie Van Halen is to ‘70s rock. Plus, he had 10 #1 country singles as a solo artist! Damn, I’m a lucky man and so is anyone who hears this track - Steve’s the best!

Instrumental Rock-Blues-Country Review: Eric Tingstad-Electric Spirit

Release Date: May 18, 2018
Label: Independent

If you are an instrumental music fan, I have just the right thing for you to check out. Eric Tingstad will be releasing Electric Spirit on May 18th, 2018.

I have become accustomed to the acoustic recordings of Eric and have always enjoyed them. The arrival of an all-electric album came as a surprise. I know the man is a very talented purveyor of the six-string so I looked forward to hearing this offering called Electric Spirit.

With his deep commitment to the music and his surroundings that mother earth provides, Eric derives great inspiration. His playing is heartfelt and meaningful to those who believe in cherishing and protecting our environment. After all, what do we have without our precious earth were humans and all living things can thrive? I am with him in his beliefs and the importance of sending the message continually. This what he does as an artisan and advocate of the environment.

Electric Spirit is only different in musical approach, not subject matter. I think I was more than ready to hear Eric play some electric guitar. His tone is as sweet as honey and his picking as sharp as a razor blade ready for its first shave. Picture that analogy and then listen to the music, you will understand.

What you will hear on Electric Spirit is an eclectic mixture of genres all fusing together to make for a multicultural musical experience. There are blues, country, and rock or more appropriately for some ears, Americana. Whatever you want to call it, it’s all of those performed with a touch of glass and high-end production that any guitar aficionado could produce.

This music runs deep like “Big River,” “Oh’ Shenandoah” and “The Train of Thought” (interesting play on words). The tracks he composed and performed are just sparkling with spirit and good energy. I really appreciated the way Eric took all of his influences and some classic tunes and made them his own, like “Amazing Grace” and “Over The Rainbow.”

Those graceful and well-placed guitars lined just set me at ease and all my worry and stress just melted away. It was like the sweet surrender of my soul to the music and the reward was a deep satisfaction and abiding respect for the artist and his music. It was like every note rang true and resonated with me. That is my personal journey and everyone will have their own story to tell, once they hear this great music.

Eric Tingstad is a great musician and I love the fact that he decided to stretch out and give his listeners another side of his artistry to enjoy on Electric Spirit.

Rock-Pop-Blues-Gospel-Country-R&B Review:Elvis Presley-The Searcher - The Original Soundtrack (Deluxe 3 CD Set)

Release Date: April 4, 2018
Label: Sony Legacy/RCA

As time passes and I learn more about Elvis Presley, the more I appreciate his legacy. Through several of the deluxe sets, I have gained a good education and heard some amazing music.

Elvis Presley: The Searcher The Original Soundtrack is a 3CD deluxe box set that features 37 additional Elvis cuts plus a special disc featuring selections from Mike McCready's (Pearl Jam) original score for Elvis Presley: The Searcher; Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers performing "Wooden Heart," and the music that inspired Elvis that includes R&B and country classics and "Home Sweet Home" sung by his mother, Gladys Presley. The set also includes a 40-page book featuring rare photographs, liner notes by Warren Zanes, and a director's note by Thom Zimny. Those are some of the highlights of this comprehensive set.

The Searcher - The Original Soundtrack is more of a deeper look into the persona of the legendary performer we knew as The King. Not only are there three CDs with this set, an informative booklet is included and a soon to follow two-part HBO special that kicks off on April 14th. So, all of us Elvis fans get the full multimedia treatment this time around.

I think when you strip away the Elvis we knew on stage you find a very dedicated, serious and committed performer. And I think, more importantly, he is a man that never forget from whence he came. He was legendary for his generosity, and perhaps because he was brought up in poverty, he sincerely appreciated his stardom and all the things he could enjoy because of it.

The thing I always find so striking about Elvis was his ability to cover every genre with equal energy and class. There has been and never will be another more eclectic performer than Elvis. Being multi-dimensional was his calling, and did he ever fill those shoes with excellence. Having top-notch musicians to back him never hurt either. Like a quarterback with great receivers, he covered every nuance in each genre including Country, Blues, Pops, Gospel, R&B, and Rock. At times there were tracks that took a little of each influence to create a song, only Elvis could deliver.

Some of the tracks like “Blue Moon” showed how Elvis could get his voice to hit the higher register. The track will send a chill up your spine in a heartbeat. Its simplicity and atmosphere are exceptional and a complete step away from the previous track. That is one example of the many facets of Elvis. His emotion and soul were weaved into everything he sang. There are some tracks like “Blue Moon” that really make you realize what a powerful presence he had and unique delivery that made each song come alive.

I have been looking forward to this set for a long time and the HBO special as well. I think my education of Elvis; his music and life will be a continuing process for many of us. And I am loving every minute of it. I know without any doubt that everyone that came after him is indebted for his influence, and one that he is still having on anyone recording music.

George St. Clair Voices Heartfelt Narratives About Life in the American West on His New Album Ballads of Captivity and Freedom

London, UK – Part western balladeer, part borderland chronicler, songwriter GEORGE ST. CLAIR is a master of conjuring feelings and images of lives past and present. Growing up on the high plains of Texas put George in touch with the vastness of the American West, and his songs evoke the dry deserts, rolling grasslands, and high mountains of his West Texas homeland. Living for the past several years in the UK has given him a renewed perspective on the land where he grew up, and these reflections take shape on his new album BALLADS OF CAPTIVITY AND FREEDOM. Although George is based in Europe, the album was recorded at Bird and Egg Studios in Richmond, CA, mixed by Ben Bernstein at Petting Zoo Studios in Oakland, and will release in stores and online worldwide March 2, 2018.

GEORGE ST. CLAIR has known Ben Bernstein for many years as a friend, collaborator, and producer, and has long trusted his taste, musicianship, and technical expertise. To break the ice on their first recording session at Bernstein's Petting Zoo Studio, they laid down a quick demo of George’s song “The Places Where They Prayed,” with George playing Ben's vintage Gibson acoustic and singing into a single mic. It seemed to George that they were just getting started, but the initial bounce of the song didn't sound bad at all. George went back to his home in the UK and was floored when he later heard Ben's version complete with drums, bass, and pedal steel. The song came bursting through, sounding authentic and natural. After that George knew he wanted Ben to produce the whole record.

Demos were sent, charts were made, and schedules were coordinated, and they got to work immediately upon George’s arrival back from London. Ben had since put together a great core team of musicians – Dan Lebowitz on guitar and pedal steel, Mike Stevens on drums and congas, and Ben himself on bass. He organized the main sessions in the grand live room at Bird and Egg Studios in Richmond, providing the space and equipment to set up as a live quartet. Steve Sarmiento, Ben's assistant, kept everything ticking and brought a relaxed air along with his technical knowledge. On the final day, Kirby Hammel came in to add great feel and fluidity on organ and piano, which turned out to be a key part of the sound on the forthcoming album.

Experienced and prepared, the musicians got it right away, rehearsing and talking through minor adjustments. As with Ben in the studio, George felt he could trust this team implicitly. With only a few minor additions and adjustments in post-production back at Petting Zoo Studio, these live sessions comprise the new album BALLADS OF CAPTIVITY AND FREEDOM.

GEORGE ST. CLAIR draws on influences from the western Country tradition, Mexican Folk, 1970s Rock, and Texas balladries to narrate hidden stories examining the struggles between Native Americans and white colonizers, and the various plights of migrants to the US. He grew up in and around places where vicious battles were fought over the possession of land, and where large numbers of indigenous people were corralled into encampments. His family background of ranching and wildcat oil prospecting spurred him to probe the more controversial history of that part of the world in his songwriting. With his own sound and point of view, GEORGE ST. CLAIR is a formidable writer who takes the listener to places and times where untold possibilities once existed, and still do.

GEORGE ST. CLAIR cut his musical teeth in Austin, TX, playing Country, Flamenco, and Salsa, and co-founding the band Soniquete, a stalwart of Austin’s Alternative Latin music wave. However, it was while immersed in Latin American music that George’s ideas for melodies and verse still came almost always in the form of country ballads – a type of sound and feeling that was simply in his blood. GEORGE ST. CLAIR found his voice in heartfelt narratives about life in the American West.

For over 20 years George has pursued a career as a professional archeologist and anthropologist, which involved living for extended periods of time in remote places in the American Southwest, Mexico, Peru, and Brazil. While in Mexico, his travels crossing and re-crossing the border further ignited his historical imagination and sharpened his awareness of life in the region. This path eventually brought George to London, where he got his PhD in Anthropology, followed by a few years of lecturing and research at the London School of Economics.

All the while his reading, writing, and further reflection kept fueling a vision that would emerge in his songwriting – a nuanced, poetic voice full of wit and rigor, ever-grounded in his connection to home. While music was never far out of the picture, over the last few years the time came to put all his energies toward it. Bringing all his experiences together, songwriting emerged as the way for George to find his true voice.

Featured Stream: Amilia K. Spicer - Fill Me Up

Roots Rock and Americana are really taking hold. It has been for several years and the more I hear it the more I can see why it has become so popular.

Music from artists such Amilia K. Spicer, like her track "Fill Me Up," will give you a good idea of what this music sounds like, or should sound like.

Spicer's voice has that edge country influenced music needs. The vocals gives it all more heart and soul. Truthfully, the reason I like the music so much is because it is so honest and emotional.

"Fill Me Up" comes at you locked and loaded and ready to fire away. The music is very earthy with a heavy influence from country (and I don't mean all polished with rock and pop for a looped radio playlist) just as all Americana or Roots Rock.

Check out this great music and the hypnotizing vocals of Amilia K. Spicer.

Legendary Songwriter Hugh Prestwood To Release First Full Album "I Used To Be The Real Me"

The hit songwriter is releasing “I Used To Be The Real Me”, featuring Judy Collins

Los Angeles - It may seem Hugh Prestwood is just introducing his name to the world; after all, “I Used To Be The Real Me” is essentially the first album he’s widely distributed, set to be released November 18 on Wildflower Records/Cleopatra Records. But fans of country, folk and bluegrass music are all very familiar with his work - he’s penned numerous number ones and other hits in his thirty-plus years as an Emmy Award-winning, Hall of Fame songwriter.

Discovered in 1978 by Judy Collins, the ethereal folk singer provided Prestwood with first hit when she recorded “Hard Times for Lovers.” It makes sense that she also had a hand in this stage of his career, releasing his new album on her Wildflower Records. She also joined him on two tracks, “Untie These Lines” and “Charlie.”

“I received Hugh’s CD, listened to it and practically fell over,” Collins said. “It blew me away. All of Hugh's songs are unusual and tinged with magic, and it was a pleasure singing them with my old friend.”

In the three decades since first working with Collins, Prestwood has become a well-respected and sought-after songwriter, penning Grammy-nominated number ones for Randy Travis with “Hard Rock Bottom Of Your Heart” Crystal Gayle’s “The Sound Of Your Goodbye” and Shenandoah’s “Ghost In This House,” among many other hits. But “I Used To Bee The Real Me” is Prestwood singing his own songs, his own way.

“Working with Judy on this record is closing a very big circle,” Prestwood said. “I Used To Be The Real Me is my songs recorded from my demos, whittled down from 30 songs I had in my catalog. I’m so pleased to share it.”

Conway Twitty, Don Williams, Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor, Alison Krauss and Union Station and Jerry Douglas have all recorded Prestwood’s songs, among many, many more. He even received an Emmy for Trisha Yearwood’s “The Song Remembers When.” With that many hits and a long history of working with some of music’s greatest names, it’s hard to believe “I Used To Be The Real Me” is Prestwood’s first full, widely-distributed album of his own work – of his voice singing his songs for a change. The album is a masterwork in lyricism, with Prestwood’s familiar take on life and love as they change through the years.

Although Prestwood is releasing “I Used To Be The Real Me”, he’s nowhere near done with songwriting. Prestwood continues to teach songwriting workshops for the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) in various locations throughout the country, and is constantly working on his next song.

Blind Chart Topping Producer Joey Stuckey Releases All-Female Southern Artist Compilation

Macon, GA - Blind producer Joey Stuckey, the official Music Ambassador for his hometown of Macon, Georgia—a true music city—has released an all-female musical compilation, “Joey Stuckey Presents Ladies of the South”, that encompasses twelve incredible artists that he has produced over the past 6 years.

Stuckey's roster of musical legends with whom he has worked includes Alan Parsons, Chuck Leavell, Jimmy Hall, The B-52s, Mike Mills (REM), Trisha Yearwood, Hughie Thomasson (Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Outlaws), and many others.

The decision to release this compilation was made after Stuckey's co-writing the album's feature song “What You See Ain’t What You Get” with Charlie Hoskyns (The Popes), Will Morrison (Modern English), and Paul McGuinness (The Pogues). Says Stuckey, “We wrote this amazing song about incredibly strong women and loved it so much that we had to record it. We chose long-time friend and Georgia treasure Sue Wilkinson (aka Sue Lu) to perform the lead vocals on this track. We needed the attitude of Janis Joplin and the vocal chops to go with it and Sue was the perfect woman to bring the song to life. After 'What You See Ain't What You Get' was completed, I realized that I knew and had worked with so many amazing female artists across all genres that it was time to share that talent and 'Joey Stuckey Presents Ladies of the South' was born.”

Whether you are a fan of rock, pop, singer/songwriter, country, or contemporary Christian, this compilation has it all!

The artists and songs included in this southern exposé are:

  1. The Shadow Bandits featuring Sue Lu “What You See Ain't What You Get”

1913979_963205270400639_9042191805605411783_nRockabilly, Roots, Country Gold,,,, Poised, beautiful and exceptionally talented are just a few of the words that describe “The Darlins”, Jude Toy and Erinn Bates.
In just over a year their followers on Twitter have more than doubled from 30,000 to over 65,000 followers. They have amassed over 80,000 fans on ReverbNation where you can download their music and enjoy at any time. They have appeared with some of the industries most prominent icons of music, Montgomery Gentry, Daryl Worley, Trace Atkins, and Joe Nichols. They have also shared their passion for songwriting with some of the industries most talented and gifted songwriter/lyricists that include Tia Sillers.
Significant influences on the Darlins music can be found with Loretta Lynn, Dolly, Eric Church, Tom Petty, Little Big Town, Lee Ann Womack, and Alison Krauss, Leslie Satcher and R. L. Castleman. With talents as amazing as these making a deep impression on something that you love so much, it’s no wonder that The Darlins are able to express their instrumental and vocal talents so exquisitely.
Music has been part of their lives from childhood and there is nothing they would rather do. Both fell in love with the piano at an early age and it was the piano that led them to the deep love they have for music today.
image7Jude Toy was born and raised in Portland Oregon and relocated to LA, where she became the lead guitar player for a rock group called the Creamers. In 1994 she decided it was time to move on and left the group to begin a solo career with her own music. She even walked away from a deal because she wanted to be true to herself and play her music her way. After working in Nashville with Bruce Burch doing some recordings Jude knew Nashville was the place for her and loaded up nine boxes full of her belongings, threw them in the back of a pickup truck, left LA and never looked back. Nashville was in her blood.
~”I was pretty young, I’d say eight or nine? My dad loved Loretta Lynn and he would play her CD’s and we would listen to her all the time. I fell in love with Loretta the minute I heard her sing. The first instrument I learned to play was piano. My mother was a concert pianist and I would listen to her play the classics everyday, Chopin, Bach, Mozart. I think I got my sense of melody from those brilliant men and from a very talented mom. She wanted me to play the piano so I attempted for years, but it wasn’t until I picked up the guitar that it really hit me that it was my instrument and has been for years.” ~ Jude Toy, 2016
image8Erinn was born and raised right here in Music City USA. The love of music grabbed her early and never left her. Her thirst for music began around the age of seven or eight years old. Her Dad had a strong love of the classic country music and would serenade her on trips in the car and even though her mom wasn’t really a huge country music fan she would turn up the volume when listening to The Judd’s. One of their favorites was “Rockin’ With the Rhythm of the Rain”. She loved to listen to her older sister Danielle play the piano. Danielle taught her to play scales and “Chopsticks”. After that she began to play by ear and continued on through out her college days. Now she enjoys that passion for music as part of the duo,“The Darlins”.
Erinn spoke of being grateful for every opportunity and of the excitement for what the future holds for the duo.
I don’t have any regrets. The ups and downs have all had their reasons. There really haven’t been downs, actually for me. If something didn’t happen that I had my heart set on, then I have to believe it just wasn’t the right thing. Me being an inspiration to others is hard to fathom. That humbles me. I’ve always wanted to write songs and create music. If it inspires others, that makes me so incredibly happy. ~Erinn Bate, 2016~
image2The Darlins met while working as makeup artists at the world renowned Saphora Cosmetics in Nashville, TN. Not only did they have a deep love of music but they also loved helping young women find their inner beauty as well as their outer beauty. They knew from the start that a duo was meant to be. Their unwavering determination has propelled them forward quickly and as their music continues to evolve so does their acceptance in the industry.
From Music Row to Tin Pan South, The Darlins are moving up quickly. Endorsed by Breedlove Guitars, Julie Miles Designs, a line of the most beautiful authentic jewelry for the stars, and Capturing Couture, who design custom guitar straps for rising stars in the music industry.
13133339_10154795120332678_1461313129335491664_nJude and Erinn know all too well the struggle and the effort it takes to make it in an industry that has long been a man’s world and how the journey has been really difficult but that through it all they’ve learned so much about themselves and having a career in music.
I hope to be an inspiration to others always, and an example of God’s incredible love for his people. I hope to reach millions of people with my music and help them in some way. I think God blesses us to be a blessing, so I want to do whatever I can to inspire everyone I come into contact with.”
~Jude Toy, 2016~
The future looks bright and for the Darlins it’s a dream come true. They know that with hard work, determination, passion, and a desire to make that passion a reality, that you can accomplish anything.
Their outlook for the future is to continue to build their own style and secure a place in the industry, so that their music will inspire others, to do large events that will hopefully benefit various charities and community organizations and to give back, be happy, and remain humble.
My most favorite co-writer of all time is of course Jude Toy! We have a great time and completely get each other. My advice would be to just continue to push through and get heard. We need our ladies on the airwaves.” ~Erinn Bates, 2016~
image4I’ve known the Darlins now for several years and I know them to love family, truth and country music. They are strong believers in hard work, striving to help others, and giving it your all and your best. They believe that you should stay true to who you are, hone your craft, and never take no for answer. Get to know your fans, reach out and really connect. They also said we should all continue to support our fellow musicians and to support the independent artists, especially us girls.
Currently the Darlins are set to release their music video “Crush”, they will be performing locally in and around Nashville, they will be performing in the fall during several of our festivals and continue doing that distinctive, driving, impressionable writing that we know, is all… “The Darlins.”
