Stream Feature: Cranky George - Nighttime

The name Cranky George immediately brings a certain picture into your mind, more specifically the word cranky. I wouldn't let that throw you off in regards to the band with the name though.

Cranky George the band has a debut album out titled Fat Lot of Good. And indeed it is! A double album is a lot of music

The featured track here is the marvelous "Nighttime." This is a great introduction to a tight band with good vocals and harmonies that knows how to play their instruments. Because of those basic tenets to success they are able to shape and mold songs of different flavors for a listener.

"Nighttime" is a perfect example of rock, pop and torch combined to show off their skills. Check out the stream and video and I think you will agree this is a band that has it going on!

Hennie Bekker is an award winning artist with numerous recordings to his credit. His most recent release Beyond Dreams brings you Brain Entrainment and Relaxation Music. No, that is not a typo! Entrainment is the practice of entraining one's brainwaves to a desired frequency.

Bekker presents the desired frequency with the featured track here titled "Letting Go." The accompanying visual is purposely basic for a focus point, which is traveling through space. The music is beautiful and trance like. Bekker's piano is graceful and it expresses the feeling of floating away. All you have to do is listen and watch the video.

Featured Track: The Ann Wilson Thing – Don’t Give Up (Peter Gabriel/Kate Bush cover)

The Ann Wilson Thing #2 was released on August 12th. The second installment of classic rock covers takes some of the best songs you have heard over the years and gives it that Ann Wilson stamp.

Her name is synonymous in the world of rock and she continues to record quality music with Heart and her solo work is exemplary as well.

"Don't Give Up" is a classic tune from Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush however as the track begins she lets the crowd now she will be covering both parts which is not difficult for a Gemini.

It is a heartfelt effort that is given its due by Ms. Wilson and it goes without saying that the musicianship is excellent as well. I can say that I have always enjoyed her music and this is yet another one to add to the list.

Turn it up and enjoy!

Featured Stream: Project Grand Slam -You Really Got Me (feat. Lucy Woodward)

Project Grand Slam has a new album out titled
The Queen's Carnival.  One of the classic cover tracks is The Kinks  "You Really Got Me" featuring the expressive sultry vocals of Lucy Woodward.

The track starts off with their jazz influences making it sound like it was their own song and then a razor's edge guitar enters giving it that definitive rock influence. With that element it still sounds like their own creation giving you no indication of the original with the exception of the lyrics.

For this listener that is what makes a good cover tune great! I appreciate jazz rock fusion as well so that helps if you have an ear bent for that genre. So turn it on and give it a listen.

"Eclipse" is one of the album highlights. It is a beautiful track accompanied by male and female vocalizations. There is also some saxophone intermingled in the mix towards the end of the track.

The colorful cover is a hint at what the intent is. It is about relaxation, centering and meditation. What is pleasant to the ears can be healing for the body.

More About Peter Sterling:

http://www.harpmagic.com/

Musical artists come to their recording careers in lots of ways, many of them rather typical, e.g. listening to music as a teen, joining or forming bands, hearing a particularly influential album, and then setting off to find fame and fortune. Peter Sterling's journey to where he is now, as one of New Age music's premier harp players, was less conventional. Propelled by equal parts happenstance, serendipity, and spiritual epiphany, the tale of how he arrived at his current place in life would make quite a movie, although some would no doubt state "Now THAT would never happen in real life!" However, they would be wrong...READ MORE

Track Feature: Rachael Sage -Try, Try, Try

Rachel Sage's most recent release Choreographic was released at the end of April this year. Among some of the more catchy and attractive cuts was "Try, Try, Try."

I am familiar with her work and have enjoyed it in the past and this one track is so energetic and unforgettable that you will want to hear a lot more than just one time.

There are snappy hook fills from the six string and a violin to give it an Americana edge. When all is said and done it turns out to be a marvelous combination of pop and rock.

Give it a listen and leave your thoughts!

Acoustic/Roots Stream: RJ Comer - The Moon Ain't Fallen on Me Yet

RJ Comer's music and vocals have a way of grabbing you without fail. He has the look of an old soul, someone that has lived the songs that he sings.

A good example of that thought is "The Moon Ain't Fallen on Me Yet" from his Nightly Suicide album. The music is dark and mesmerizing and the message hits home. He is saying that regardless of the late night rolls of the dice in whatever frame of reference one can think of, the bright globe above has not fallen down and extinguished his love of the night and taking risks.
