Rock Review: Honey West-Bad Old World

Release Date: September 3, 2019
Label: Readout Records

If you are looking for that sound that gets you in the mood for the Fall season, Bad Old World brings the transition to life. It is a great piece to listen to on a cool, rainy day where you just sit back and relax through the day. Maybe you’re reminiscing about years gone by, or planning for rest of the year ahead but, whatever the case may be; the vibe is nothing short of a good time.

The first couple of notes off the record, make the first track sound like “Wake Me Up When September Ends” by Green Day. It sets the tone for the rest of the album puts you in that Fall setting but, replacing punk-rock with a Classic-Rock taste. Ian McDonald and Ted Zurkowski send us on a bit of time travel, back to when looking up at the stars on the girl next door’s rooftop, or the days of just cruising around in your dad’s fixed-up pick-up truck, were the only social norms of that time, rather than staring at a phone the whole time.

In flowing through the tracklist, Bad Old World stays consistent and on a feel-good vibe. “Dementia”, the last track of the album seems to be the only song where the band misses the mark. From “The September Issue” to “Terry & Julie”, each song feels not only sequential, which is necessary for all large bodies of work, but, positive to a degree and as though I am listening to the artists tell of their new journey 20 years later.

Throughout the whole record, the duo emphasizes the importance of keeping their Classic-Rock image with a modern tone. Unfortunately, if you did not grow up around bands like Foreigner or The Allman Brothers, or your parent did not flood your ears with 80s Rock, this concept may be lost to you. This is a great album for anyone who is looking to see that real music and artistry has not gone by the wayside. So much today, has been replaced with machines and auto-tune control, when people, in reality, want raw and real talent. Who could be better to bring talent to a head than original Rock artists like McDonald and Zurkowski?

Key Tracks Include: “The September Issue”, “Sylvia Strange”, “California”, and “Terry & Julie”

New Video About The Making Of Magma's New Album "Zëss" On Limited Edition Gold Colored Vinyl

Limited edition of 1500 numbered copies on 180 gram audiophile gold colored vinyl

Magma's new album “Zëss” is available for pre-order as a limited edition of 1500 numbered copies on gold colored vinyl. The package includes a 4-page booklet. The vinyl edition will be released on September 20, 2019.

Watch the The Making Of Magma's Limited Edition Gold Colored Vinyl of  “Zëss”:

Magma's critically acclaimed newest album “Zëss” is a 38-minute musical work by Christian Vander. Composed in 1970, Zëss had long been plagued by its incompleteness, its recording was deferred for years. Four decades after its first draft, the work has finally been recorded in an orchestral version that gives it both its true dreamlike dimension and its transcending power. The first public performance took place in Bourges in 1979. It is the last piece in a series of unfinished compositions from the 1970s. During the last 15 years, they finished and released all these different pieces. “Zëss” is described as a work that touches the philosophical domain by its treatment of the idea of nothingness and its evocation of the theme of time.

Magma turned fifty this year, catapulting into the very exclusive circle of bands who for five decades have never laid down their instruments, nor turned down their volume! The oldest French band still in existence has always played at full sail, never yielding to the siren song of passing trends. The fiercely original music has tirelessly adhered to the highest artistic standards while still reaching a wide audience of all ages.

Instrumental New Age Music Review: David Wahler-Two Hearts

Release Date: August 30, 2019
Label: David Wahler Music

David Wahler’s Two Hearts album is a combination of instrumental new age and ambient tracks. The 11 tracks offered on the CD are from 4+ to 5+ minutes of playtime.

That amount of time is perfect for those seeking a period that allows for a deep relaxing or meditative state right from the first track onward. I think the running time is key to get you to that level and then keep you there. Two Hearts accomplishes that.

David is an interesting individual and blessed as well. He was a successful businessman for several years then “retired” to make music. It is people like him that give me the inspiration to carry on and do something else once I finally leave the routine of a day job. Being in a daily routine day job does not allow for the spontaneity one desires to keep the energy level high and your mindset in the excited mode. David is one of the fortunate individuals that found his way rather quickly after stepping away from the rat race.

“Paris Rain” caught my ear for the ambient textures and spacey interludes. I added it to my New Age Music Reviews Spotify Playlist right after I heard it. There is more to hear besides that kind of style, however. For example, directly after that track, “Night Sky of Orion (Remix),” starts with a nice acoustic guitar and all the other elements of keyboards and layers come in to create that instrumental magic that you will be accustomed to hearing throughout this release.

I think what David may be saying with the title of the album is it takes two hearts to beat as one. All the birds on the wires maybe all the thoughts one person can communicate through the lines of communication we now have at our disposal. That is my interpretation that may provide some insight for potential listeners, I am not sure if that is the correct insight, but it’s a thought.

The music is exceptionally relaxing and it was all composed, produced, and performed by David Wahler. It was also mastered by Tom Eaton at Will Ackerman’s Imaginary Road Studios. All of those credentials add up to excellence from start to finish on Two Hearts.

JOEY MOLLAND OF BADFINGER IN THE STUDIO RECORDING A BRAND NEW ALBUM

Teams With Grammy-Winning Producer and Grammy-Winning Engineer

NEW YORK, NY – JOEY MOLLAND of the band BADFINGER is currently in the studio working on a brand new release. He’s enlisted Grammy-winning songwriter/producer Mark Hudson and Grammy-winning engineer Mario J. McNulty to work on the album with him and is excited to share this latest project with his fans.

“I’ve wanted to make this album for several years now. The songs are solid and quite catchy – many harken back to that power pop/rock sound I began my career with.” – Joey Molland

Fans can find many ways to be a part of this special project through Joey's Kickstarter campaign which launched today.

Joey was a member of Badfinger’s classic line-up and the band was one of the original signings to the Beatles’ Apple Records label. They had their first hit single with a Paul McCartney penned song, "Come and Get It."  Badfinger followed this with their own hit compositions "No Matter What", "Day After Day" (produced by George Harrison), and "Baby Blue." During this time American singer Harry Nilsson placed Badfinger's song "Without You" on top of the charts, and Mariah Carey did the same in 1994. Badfinger's own version of "Without You" was featured in Season 2 of the hit television show This Is Us, which helped introduce the band's music to brand new younger fans.

The timeless quality of Badfinger songs is evident, as the songs continue to be used in many other contemporary TV and film soundtracks. The song "No Matter What" was featured in the hit film Horrible Bosses 2,  "Baby Blue" was featured in the Breaking Bad TV show finale, and "Day After Day" is currently featured in the movie Annabelle Comes Home.

Joey Molland played on John Lennon's Imagine album, on George Harrison’s Grammy-winning album All Things Must Pass, and joined George Harrison for the Concert For Bangladesh.

Producer Mark Hudson has worked extensively with artists such as Ringo Starr, Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne, Harry Nilsson, Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper, Celine Dion and more.

Engineer Mario J. McNulty has worked with many well-known artists, including David Bowie, Prince and Julian Lennon.

Both are excited to be working with Joey on his brand new release.

Here’s what Joey has to say about the tracks:

“So far the rough tracks are sounding fantastic. The hooks, the harmonies and the musicianship... Expect to hear fresh catchy rock songs, with several songs reminiscent of Badfinger’s sound.”

Several very special guest musicians are contributing to this album.
