Guitar Icon Adrian Belew Scores Music For New Animated Film & Releases “FLUX” Album!

Nashville - Guitar icon Adrian Belew has recently scored the music to “Piper”, a short movie by animation studio Pixar, which was released on June 17th! The six-minute production tells the story of a small bird that lives on a beach, and must challenge herself to find food while avoiding treacherous waves. It was screened before “Finding Dory”, the full-length sequel to 2003's “Finding Nemo”.

Says Adrian, “I've visited Pixar four times and it never ceases to thrill me – so much creativity and technology in one place.”

Adrian Belew's soundtrack to “Piper” is now available digitally: https://www.amazon.com/Piper-Adrian-Belew/dp/B01IPIDUAA/ref=sr_1_1?s=dmusic&ie=UTF8&qid=1470589084&sr=1-1-mp3-albums-bar-strip-0&keywords=adrian+belew.+piper

Meanwhile, Belew continues work on the latest additions to his FLUX project, including an album called FLUXbybelew and an in-app addition entitled FLUXation. FLUX is 'music which is never the same twice'. To accommodate the original concept FLUX was released on iTunes as a music app for iPhone and iPad (the only one of its kind, available on iTunes at bit.ly/FLUX_cd) with the app downloaded, you press Play to activate 30 minutes of music, songs, sounds, and visuals which will never happen again in quite the same way. that's because of some very clever algorithms and a huge amount of content. But it is not feasible to have the same thing occur on a CD, so Adrian asks that you always play the CD in “shuffle” mode. This will give as close an approximation to the way he intended this music to be experienced as can be offered in this format.

FLUX is not meant to be listened to in the same running sequence every time. In order to eventually make all FLUX material available on CD, this will be an ongoing series, updated as needed. Adrian's hope is that you will make your own playlist from the content of all the CDs, then put the entire playlist in shuffle and enjoy FLUX: music that is never the same twice!

Says Adrian, “For those who only have the first FLUX CD, this will double your fun. For those of you who have the FLUXbybelew app, the FLUXation pack will add another half an hour of music and visuals to your FLUX stream, creating even more possibilities. Also included in both these releases are new songs not available anywhere else.”

Adrian Belew finally launched his FLUX music creation environment after 36 years of planning and development. It's now available as an iOS mobile device app, and promises “a new and exciting way to experience music.”

Says Adrian, “Technology has changed our lives so dramatically. Our ability to multitask is greater, but our attention spans are shorter. Modern music does not reflect these changes – most music has remained unaltered, still made in the same format used for over 60 years: the three to five minute song. Nothing wrong with that, but how about an alternative?

“FLUX is an ever-changing variety of songs, sounds and visual art that comes at you in quick, exciting pieces. You get exposed to a lot of content quickly and every listen is new. It will never happen the same way for you or anyone else.

While the system currently features only Belew's music, and isn't open to any other input, he hopes the concept can be expanded. He told Something Else Reviews: “I really believe it's something that could be used in many different artistic mediums, and that people will use it different ways.”

Adrian Belew is a legendary guitarist well-known for his diverse travels around the musical map. He is a multi-instrumentalist whose solo records are critically acclaimed. His moving singing voice and prolific songwriting has endeared a loyal fan base of music lovers. His music is being discovered everyday by more and more listeners thirsty for great music with a creative standard not often pushed by the commercial music industry.

Adrian first appeared on the guitar-world radar when he toured with Frank Zappa who later said, “Adrian reinvented electric guitar”. Adrian's signature tones, unique use of effects and whammy bar remains completely different, and his techniques continue to be a huge influence on today’s guitarists. He was guitarist, songwriter and frontman Progressive Rock Powerhouse King Crimson for over 30 years. “Discipline”, Adrian's first record with King Crimson, is listed among the most important rock records ever made.

Adrian has had a career that commands both awe and respect from fellow musicians and loyal fans, from his first solo record “The Lone Rhino” to The Atlantic Records hit album “Mr. Music Head” or any of his other 20 solo records that push sonic boundaries while maintaining artistic integrity. Adrian shreds on guitar but also writes beautiful songs that will make you cry. Yes, Adrian has taken his fans on a wild ride through countless world tours and albums with David Bowie, Talking Heads, Laurie Anderson, NIN and Paul Simon. He truly is the Twang Bar King!

Bonzo Dog Band's Vivian Stanshall's “Sir Henry At Rawlinson End” Soundtrack by Michael Livesley and Brainwashing House feat. Rick Wakeman and Neil Innes To Be Released

“A tour-de-force and a work of Art” - Neil Innes

London, UK - Vivian Stanshall, widely acknowledged as one of the most influential recording artists of the 20th Century may sadly no longer be with us but the incredible words he created live on via the celebrated rave-reviewed recreation of his meisterwerk 'Sir Henry at Rawlinson End' by actor, singer and comedian Michael Livesley accompanied by his trusted Brainwashing House band.

Originally created for John Peel's Radio 1 show in the 1970's, Sir Henry at Rawlinson End - the meandering gin-soaked saga of a crumbling English stately home and the grotesques who inhabit it headed by the heroically drunk Sir Henry - perfectly distilled and encapsulated Viv's absurdly hilarious wordplay and songwriting which first hit the public consciousness during the 1960s via his work helming the cult Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.

The show, now in its 6th year and with the full blessing of the Stanshall family, has earned the praise of Viv's fans, friends and celebrity fans alike including keyboard wizard Rick Wakeman who, due to his admiration for Michael's interpretation, has joined the show on piano as a guest many times. This has led to RRAW Records, the exciting new label from Rick and music industry veteran Robin Ayling, proudly presenting this brand new original cast recording of this critically acclaimed stage show as their debut LP release. The recording features Rick guesting on piano, and also Viv's Bonzo bandmate and sometime Rutle and Monty Python member Neil Innes plus Viv's favourite violinist Susie Honeyman of The Mekons.

Tracks:
1. Aunt Florrie's Waltz
2. Interlewd
3. Wheelbarrow
4. Socks
5. The Rub
6. Nice 'N' Tidy
7. Pigs 'Ere Purse
8. 6/8 Hoodoo
9. Smeeton
10. Fool & Bladder
11. Endroar
12. The Beasht Inshide
13. Junglebunny
14. Aunt Florrie Remembers
15. Rawlinsons & Maynards
16. Papadumb

Here's what's being said about Vivian Stanshall's “Sir Henry At Rawlinson End”:

“Michael Livesley embodies to perfection the spirit and brilliance of Vivian Stanshall and adds his own measure of outrageous talent too” – Stephen Fry

“Sir Henry's bluster and his epic lack of drawing room manners are still winning fun. All very odd, all very Stanshall!” - Clive Davis, The Times

“A work of lyrical genius and poetry, on a different plane to the rest of the world” - Rick Wakeman

“What a night, an ensemble of madmen at their best, smashing!” - Rupert Stanshall, Vivian's son

“Brilliant! Berserk! Simply wonderful!” - Suzanne Moore, The Guardian

“Livesley's performance gives weight and truth to that old theatrical cliché - a comic tour-de-force” - Andrew Male, MOJO

“A distorted-mirror celebration of English eccentricity rooted in a riot of linguistic lasciviousness” - Andy Gill, The Independent

What’s music legend KEVIN GODLEY (10cc / Godley & Creme) doing with movie icon TERENCE STAMP and cult biker / author RICHARD LA PLANTE?

Making new music,
directing and acting in…

‘HOG FEVER’ the Ear Movie, that’s what.

RICHARD LA PLANTE: I’m dribbling into a microphone in a tiny LA sound studio, trying to record an audio book of my memoir HOG FEVER and the sound engineer looks as bored as I feel. Then a thought hits me like the crack of thunder from a V-Twin exhaust. Shit! Why don’t I do the Hog screenplay, not the book, and get real actors in, sound effects, Rock music, the works? I’ll phone my writing buddy, Kevin Godley - the Scorsese of music video and we’ll call it an, an…

KEVIN GODLEY: An Ear Movie? Damn right! Once Terence was in, I was, but what the hell is an Ear Movie anyway? Well, it’s a pure audio experience with music plus all the production values of a movie but without any er…pictures! Anyway, once we started writing, a few things became obvious. A) Lose anything that relies on seeing. B) Don’t get lost in sound for sound’s sake. C) Write until your eyes bleed…but hey, who needs eyes, anyway? We’re making an EAR MOVIE!

“HOG FEVER should be outlawed. It's contagious.” - Sunday Times

Midway between the satire of Spinal Tap and the pathos of American Beauty lies the schizophrenic state of mind known as Hog Fever. On the surface this is the story of a man, a motorcycle, and a teetering bank balance. But lurking beneath is the story of a lost soul in search of freedom - or at least one last stab at it. Motivated by the emasculating success of his British screenwriter wife and a love of Easy Rider and The Wild One, Robert Lourdes, a struggling American author on the cusp of forty, finds solace in the Harley-Davidson legend. Hog Fever is Robert's comedy of errors as he embarks on a toot, tattoo-and-testosterone-fueled quest to find himself.

The HOG FEVER CD and download comprises Episodes 1 through 5 plus bonus music soundtrack including 4 original songs by Kevin Godley (10 CC, Godley & Creme, GG/06) ‘The Bad & The Beautiful’ ‘Work Song’ ‘Just Write’ and ‘Confession.’ and a special track by Daniel Ash (Bauhaus, Love and Rockets) ‘Flame On.’

*Features Oscar nominee Terence Stamp and a full supporting cast
*Adapted for the ears by Kevin Godley from Richard La Plante's memoir Hog Fever
*Directed by Kevin Godley
*Produced by Escargot Books

His latest film is Big Eyes, directed by Tim Burton. His first Ear Movie is Hog Fever, directed by Kevin Godley.

Judy Collins’ 1974 Oscar Nominated Documentary About The First Female Conductor Of Major Orchestras To Be Re-Released On DVD!

Los Angeles, CA - Antonia: A Portrait Of The Woman, the celebrated documentary film about the first woman conductor of major orchestras in the U.S. and Europe, Antonia Brico, will be re-released on DVD this November. Folk music icon Judy Collins produced and co-directed this highly acclaimed 1974 Academy Award nominated documentary film, which explores themes of gender discrimination that are still highly relevant today. An unforgettable and inspiring figure, Brico faced hardship after hardship, overcoming enormous obstacles and prejudice to pursue her life's passion in the male-dominated field of classical conducting. CRUISING, the Controversial Cult Classic Film Soundtrack Available on Compact Disc for the First Time

“One of the rockingest movies ever...the music here is dark, dirty and seedy.”

Camarillo, CA - Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity will be releasing the original motion picture soundtrack to Cruising, the 1980 William Friedkin film starring Al Pacino. The controversial movie has become an underground cult classic and the release of the dynamic soundtrack featuring performances by Willy DeVille, John Hiatt, Rough Trade, The Cripples, Mutiny and their left field opus “Lump,” The Germs and others has been long-awaited.

The film, considered a snapshot of pre-AIDS gay life, is about a series of violent New York murders in which the victims all frequent clandestine Manhattan leather bars in which gay men gather to dance, drink, do drugs and make pairings while enveloped in an S&M world of leather, boots, whips and chains. When Friedkin announced plans to set a movie in that milieu, and to film it primarily on location, the New York gay community rose up in protest. Cruising, they said, would present a distorted view of gay life. Upon the film's release gay activists had public protests against the film. However, critical opinion of it has warmed over the years as the film has been reassessed and the demand for the music continued to grow.

One of the best parts of the film is the amazingly gritty soundtrack. The music was scored and compiled by the late Jack Nitzsche, one of the most prolific film orchestrators in Hollywood during that period. Nitzsche was best known for being Phil Spector's arranger (and shared credit as the co-creator of “The Wall of Sound”). He won an Academy Award for Best Song for co-writing with Will Jennings and Buffy Sainte-Marie “Up Where We Belong” from 1982's An Officer and a Gentleman. Jack also worked with Neil Young on “Harvest” and was a keyboard player on many mid-1960s albums by The Rolling Stones.

Friedkin and Nitzsche had collaborated earlier on The Exorcist. Among many film successes he composed the unusual score for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Nitzsche can currently be seen at work in the studio in The Wrecking Crew documentary making rounds on movie theater and cable TV screens.

Most of the songs on the Cruising soundtrack are a mix of rock, glam and disco music. The tracks are much more violent and full of an anxious energy. The tracks complement the action and the S&M bar setting extremely well and offer a glimpse of an un-idealized 70's scene. It is not the flourishing, feverish, disco epics that have come to stereotype gay musical tastes though there is some serious dance floor stomping here as well as several raw and spirited tracks by various punk, P.Funk, rock, pop and soul artists.

Nitzsche was excited about working with the proto punk Germs as well as Willy DeVille and as a result of this record went on to produce some of their best material including three Willy DeVille albums beginning in the late 1970s: Cabretta (1977), Return to Magenta (1978), and Coup de Grâce (1981). Nitzsche said that DeVille was the best singer he had ever worked with and that talent is on display in this original motion picture soundtrack.

Tracks:

1) Willy DeVille - Heat Of The Moment
2) The Cripples - Loneliness
3) John Hiatt - Spy Boy
4) Madelynn Von Ritz - When I Close My Eyes I See Blood
5) Mutiny - Lump
6) Rough Trade - Shakedown
7) Willy DeVille - Pullin' My String
8) Germs - Lions Share
9) The Cripples - Hypnotize
10) Willy DeVille - It's So Easy

Audio Fidelity To Release Tangerine Dream “Thief” Original Motion Picture Soundtrack On 180g Vinyl

“An impressive soundtrack...a signature film score and certainly one of the best electronic scores of the 80's.”

Camarillo, CA – Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity will be releasing Tangerine Dream's Theif OST on 180g vinyl in November 2015. Tangerine Dream is among the most successful electronic groups of all time. The band was chosen by Michael Mann to write and produce the original score for Thief, his 1981 directorial debut. Tangerine Dream added their patented pulses, blips and whooshes to the film's highly stylized visual scenes. Up to this time, no one had ever used a sequencer for a neo-noir film...this score is one of the most unusual of its kind for American cinema.

Rather than a full orchestral score, Tangerine Dream's techno-based score uses synthesizer, percussion and electric guitar making for a fascinating and exciting soundtrack. Tracks like “Dr. Destructo” have a fast-paced percussion tempo. An engaging melody on “Beach Theme” makes it one of the album's most familiar and popular tracks, while “Trap Feeling” has a delicacy that compares favorably to Brian Eno's Music for Films.

There were two versions of the album only the US release included “Confrontation” an actual rock song of guitars, bass and drums written by Craig Safan. Band member, Edgar Froese stated at the time,”It was a pleasure working on the film because the exotic and shifting moods of Thief were perfectly suited to the kind of music we played...and yet we knew the music would also stand on its own.”

The soundtrack and the movie are inseparable. The music and movie have grown beyond cult classic status becoming an important part of the collected works of Tangerine Dream and Mann.
