Free Download of “Questions” Now Available!

Philadelphia, PA (USA) – Often called America's answer to Black Sabbath, one of the most unsung bands in the history of US hard rock music, BANG, is back! With the heaviness of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, coupled with the groove of Grand Funk Railroad, BANG released three critically acclaimed albums on Capitol Records in the early 1970's before disappearing for a number of years. 2016 marks the 44th anniversary of BANG's critically acclaimed debut album and the band is celebrating with a major European tour! This will be the very first tour of Europe for the legendary power trio, which will take them through the UK, Germany, France, Netherlands, Denmark. Sweden, Spain and Portugal!

Says lead vocalist and bassist Frank Ferrera, “BANG is extremely grateful for the opportunity to play in front of our European fans...this will be our 1st time overseas and we're excited to share our music with you...”

Says Frank Ferrara, “Needing one more song for the BANG album...we had Questions....our producer didn't think the song was strong enough to be on the record... we disagreed and convinced him  to add it to the BANG album...Lo and behold it became our first single....it goes to show that sometimes the "BAND" knows best....”

The 1971 self-titled debut album 'BANG' is considered an important forerunner to the early Doom Metal genre. Undoubtedly one of America’s heaviest 'proto-metal' bands from the period, BANG also had a strong sense of melodic power. The band's versatility and songwriting skills are second to none. Highly regarded as a cult act by many for years, it’s now time for this truly amazing rock band to be enjoyed by a new audience worldwide!

Back in the spring of 1972, BANG was shaping up to be the proverbial 'next big thing'. Signed a few months earlier to Capitol Records, the band's first single “Questions” was taking off in the Billboard Hot 100. With the enthusiastic support of their record label, the trio's self-titled debut album was also climbing in the charts. The group's management had them opening shows for just about every major band of the era. Moreover, BANG had recently opened for their all time favorite band Black Sabbath, and by common consensus of opinion, stole the show! With two band members, guitarist Frank Gilcken and lead singer/bassist Frank Ferrara, still in their teens, and drummer/lyricist Tony Diorio, BANG seemed to be unstoppable!

Somehow, though, it didn't quite work out. Even as “Questions” was charting, a corporate shakeup at Capitol saw the band's supporters moving on and replaced by A&R men who had their own signings to promote. With the band's producer, Michael Sunday, also leaving the label, BANG's support system was crumbling. Their new producer engineered a change in personnel that led to drummer/lyricist Tony Diorio’s departure. Meanwhile, the label insisted that BANG develop a more mainstream, pop oriented sound. Trying to keep the dream alive, they changed management companies. With a much more commercial approach, the group released a 3rd album, 'BANG Music' in 1973, which, although did contain some great songs and performances, failed to chart. By 1974, just a couple of years after their initial success, a tired and disillusioned BANG had lost their direction, momentum and self-belief. They went their separate ways.

Despite the relative briefness of their career, BANG left behind a powerful recorded legacy: four albums, including their unreleased 1971 concept album 'Death Of A Country', as well as a trio of non-album tracks that were recorded as singles when their deal with Capitol was about to expire. In 1996, much to everyone's surprise, BANG reunited! The band recorded and released in 1998 a new album titled 'Return To Zero', with the more metal-oriented album titled 'The Maze' (featuring new versions of old favorites “Love Sonnet” and “Bow To The King”) following in 2004, proving once again that the band still had the magic that made them great back in the early 70's!

And now, much to the excitement of their fans, BANG will be performing live in Europe in 2016! Says Frank Ferrara, “The three of us realized that BANG was still a musical force. And even though a lot of years have passed, we were writing songs as if it were yesterday. The dream is alive, and with renewed thirst and love of the music, we are resuming our quest.” With drummer Jake Leger, and the Franks, the band will remain a three piece, sounding just like the records!

Finnish label Svart Records is re-releasing Bang's 4 classic records: Death of a Country, Bang, Mother/Bow to the King , Music Album. They are being re-pressed on both vinyl and CD and will be available early 2016.

Melodic Metal Review: Crimson Sun-Towards the Light

Release Date: August 3, 2015
Label: Maple Metal Records

Hailing from the northern land of Finland, Crimson Sun is a modern melodic metal band that deserves some serious attention. Formed in 2001 in the city of Kotka, the band consists of Sini Seppälä (vocals), Miikka Hujanen (keyboards), Antti Rantavuo (drums), Jukka Jauhiainen (bass), and Joni Junnila (guitars). Towards the Light is their debut album and it is a marvelous achievement that is something to behold. If you are into the harmonious and yet crushing sounds of melodic metal, then Crimson Sun is the band for you. With ten songs clocking in at just over forty minutes, Towards the Light is a relentlessly rocking ride from beginning to end.

Towards the Light gets off to a killer start with the pulse-pounding “The Storm.” It is a deliciously good song with a smooth, hard, and crushing sound. The vocals are powerful, enticing, and all-together top notch. And the catchy chorus is quintessential melodic metal. This is the type of song that makes one fall in love with a band. Next up is “Eye of the Beholder” and it features more melodic goodness. It does not have quite as much pop as the opener, but it still works wonders with its darker tone. Once again, the vocals are hypnotically good, and the music gets nice and heavy near the end.

“Awaken” ups the ante with its spirited and vibrant atmosphere that never slows down. It is sweeping and grand, and has an epic quality to it that I am thinking it would fit nicely in a fantasy film. The song is so infectious that you can just sit back and let the music take you away to a distant land of your dreams. “Towards the Light” is a solid song, but it does not jump out at you the way a title track should, and is overshadowed by the album’s more dynamic songs. “The Herald” spices things up with its dark and heavy opening that leads seamlessly into the vibrant melodic metal that has so dominated the album. And, of course, the vocals are stunning again.

“Enter the Silence” is the kind of song that is hard to not listen to. It is simple captivating with its haunting atmosphere and enthralling chorus. The vocals are nothing short of fantastic. It is a contender with “The Storm” for best song on the album. This is melodic metal at its finest, and it is the type of moment on an album that has me thinking about what this band is going to do in the future. “The Spark” is a light and an uplifting song, as light melodic metal can be. It is one of those times when the keyboards really make the song, it’s not melodic metal with the keyboards, and they work quite well with the guitars during the instrumental solo. “Memories Burning” takes the tempo down a notch for peak emotional impact. It is a fantastic and moving song that leaves a lasting impression as the music fades away.

Crimson Sun’s Toward the Light is more than a solid debut. It has all the makings of the first step in a marvelous discography. I would not say that this album is a game changer that is going to turn the genre on its head, but it is still a gorgeous listen. From start to finish, it is a delight. If you are into melodic metal, then this is a must have.

4.5/5 Stars

Prog Metal Band Odin's Court Release Deathanity (R3)

Progressive Metal for fans of Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Devin Townsend, Porcupine Tree, Iron Maiden, King’s X, Metallica, HIM, and Journey, Enchant, Queen

Baltimore, MD - USA based progressive rock and metal band Odin's Court's announced the re-release of their 2008 album Deathanity (R3) for March, 1 2016. Deathanity (R3) is a “reboot” of the original ProgRock Records album, consisting of a remix (original recording), new recordings (e.g., vocals), and a re-master.

Band leader Matt Brookins commented on the decision to revisit Deathanity: “This was an important album to the band – we worked hard independently, and then shopped it to labels. It was picked up by ProgRock Records (2008), and to date remains our best selling and most popular release. While we were, and still are, proud of what we did, there are some factors that made us want to revisit and improve the quality of the album…mainly, the addition of Dimetrius LaFavors (lead vocals), but also my improvements as an engineer and producer. Additionally, the concept of the album is becoming increasingly important in today’s world, so hopefully we will reach even more ears with this re-release. Stylistically, this album is heavy, progressive, and artsy.”

Deathanity was well received when originally released:

“There's wonderful variety from section to section, the instrumentation and the songwriting are clearly the album's strengths.” – Sea of Tranquility

“The sound of the group is quite personal with a lot of quality, and fantastic production for their music, very pleasant to the ear, nothing strident, with guitars and smooth refining where all instruments are in a place where you can distinguish each of them with complete ease.” – Hall of Metal

“Matt Brookins has succeeded in serving a fantastic album to the inclined listener. From the first minute until the last there is insanely much to discover, and the protagonists are true masters of their instruments.” – Rock Times

Check out the first single “Manifest Destiny” from Deathanity (R3) here:

The band is continuing off the momentum gained from the positive press received on their latest album Turtles All the Way Down (2015):

“Odin’s Court has quietly become one of the best bands in the American Progressive Rock scene, and this album is a perfect example of why that is the case.” – Hard Rock Haven

“Terrific melodic prog/metal that gets better with every listen!” – USA Progressive Music

“The band plays heavy rock inundated with catchy guitar riffs, cool keyboard passages, and excellent lead vocals…the music is so well played, upbeat and catchy as any rock/metal album I have heard in a while.” - Sea of Tranquility

“The strengths are undoubtedly the singing, orchestration, and the work on the guitars. It is highly recommended listening!” – MusicInBelguim.Net

Rick Pierpont – Guitarist and Backing Vocalist

Joining the metal savior on this epic recording is a slew of luminaries from both the rock and punk worlds including powerhouse vocalist Henry Rollins, Motörhead guitarist Fast Eddie Clarke, Dead Boy Cheetah Chrome, Twister Sister axeman Jay Jay French, Christian Death guitarist Rikk Agnew, D.O.A.’s own Joey Shithead plus Ritchy Stotts of Plasmatics, Betsy Bitch and many others! The album will be available on both CD as well as a limited edition “blood red” vinyl pressing courtesy of Deadline Music!

“This is my most ambitious and best album in the history of my career,” THOR states boldly. Reteaming with producers Bruce Duff (Twisted Roots) and Frank Meyer (Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs), the group began writing new material and “came up with the concept of the ‘Metal Avenger’ whereby each song represents THOR’s quest to overcome the overlords of the planet Psykon and free the slaves on the master ship. There is adventure, intrigue and love in the lyrics and story. But most of all there is strength in the music. These songs are HEAVY yet melodic.” Recording took place at Kitten Robot studios with engineer Paul Roessler (The Screamers, 45 Grave) behind the board. Speaking of his guest performers, THOR offers, “I was very fortunate to perform with these incredible musicians who are each superhero characters in their own right. With my Comrades of Metal, I feel more powerful than ever!”

Check out the world premiere of the “Metal Avenger” video at Metal Hammer starting Friday!

THOR originated in the early ‘70s with body building champion and former Mr. USA Jon Mikl Thor, and quickly gained a devout following thanks in part to the band’s elaborate and supremely entertaining live shows, which frequently featured Jon performing not just outstanding anthems of metal but also astounding feats of strength - bending steel bars with his teeth and exploding water bottles with his lungs! Jon would go on to appear on the Merv Griffin Show, which led to the licensing deal with RCA in late 1976 and the release of their debut album Keep The Dogs Away the following year. But it wasn’t until the group’s 1984 EP Unchained and the follow-up full-length album, Only The Strong, that Jon Mikl & Co. really began to flex their muscles. Those releases contained the now classic songs such as “Lightning Strikes,” “Anger,” “Let The Blood Run Red” and “Thunder On The Tundra,” which earned the band a truly international following. Through the years that following has grown and solidified as new generations of classic metal heads discover the awesome power of the mighty THOR!

Prog Metal Band Odin's Court Launch Crowd Sourcing Campaign to Release Two Albums

Progressive Metal for fans of Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Devin Townsend, Porcupine Tree, Iron Maiden, King’s X, Metallica, HIM, and Journey, Enchant, Queen

Baltimore, MD - USA based progressive rock and metal band Odin's Court's announced a crowd sourcing campaign to release 2 albums: Deathanity (R3) and Turtles All the Way Down Vol, II. Deathanity (R3) is a “reboot” of the original ProgRock Records album released in 2008, consisting of a remix (original recording), new recording (e.g., vocals), and a re-master. Turtles All the Way Down, Vol. II continues the concept started in 2015’s album by the same name.

Rewards for campaign backers include CDs, digital releases, shirts, signed drum heads, vinyl banners, coasters, picks, an invitation to a listening party, and more. Samples and more details may be found at the following link:  https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/odinscourt/odins-court-deathanity-reboot-and-turtles-ii

By launching this crowd sourcing campaign, the band wishes to continue the momentum gained from the positive press received on their latest album Turtles All the Way Down (2015):

“Odin’s Court has quietly become one of the best bands in the American Progressive Rock scene, and this album is a perfect example of why that is the case.” – Hard Rock Haven

“Terrific melodic prog/metal that gets better with every listen!” – USA Progressive Music

“The strengths are undoubtedly the singing, orchestration, and the work on the guitars. It is highly recommended listening!” – MusicInBelguim.Net

Turtles All the Way Down, Vol. II continues where the last album left off, exploring the concept of infinite regression and individuals’ methods of finding their place and coping in such a vast universe. Brookins comments: “The creation of 2015’s album was therapeutic to me. I was so enthusiastic about the concept, that I ended up writing two albums worth of music and lyrics. While we discussed putting out a double album, our financial situation and time constraints prohibited it at the time. Rather than letting these ‘extra’ songs go unheard, we thought it would be nice to complete them. While some songs didn’t make the final cut, many did – and I wrote some new ones as well. We also have a couple of alternate versions of songs from the 2015 album. Stylistically, this album strikes me as a bit AOR with a hard edge.”

Odin's Court:
Matt Brookins – Guitarist, Keyboardist, Vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist
Rick Pierpont – Guitarist and Backing Vocalist
Dimetrius LaFavors – Vocalist
Gary Raub – Drummer, Percussionist, and Backing Vocalist
Jason Pierpont – Bassist

Twisted Sister's Dee Snider Featured On New CD By Dual Female Fronted Power Trio TANG

“TANG Rocks!” - Dee Snider

NYC - One of the hottest releases of 2015 is undoubtedly the new album by dual female fronted alternative metal power trio TANG featuring a guest appearance by legendary Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider! Titled “Blood & Sand”, TANG's new CD features a duet with Dee Snider on the track “Reign of Blood”!

Says guitarist Denny Colt, “Bonnie knew Dee from back in the day when they both did the club circuit...I hooked up with Dee when I was in Van Helsing's Curse with him..so we have quite the connection. He's a really nice guy & did such a great job on the duet with Bonnie on 'Reign of Blood.'”

Hailing from New York, TANG features Bonnie Parker on Vox & Bass and Denny Colt on Vox, Lead Guitar & Keyboards, and have been trading phrases back and forth in their own ripping style since 1999. Mark Edwards, formerly of Criss Angel & Burning Star, now brings skull-splitting drum beats and a monster attitude. TANG has toured Europe, Canada and the US opening shows for such artists as Crucified Barbara, Girlschool, W.A.S.P., Dokken, Hammerfall, Helloween, Dee Snider, Symphony X and many, many other cool bands.

Denny played guitar, toured & recorded in Dee Snider's “Van Helsing’s Curse”, the gothic rock orchestra. Bonnie & Denny have currently played, toured & recorded, with Corky Laing from Mountain in his new band “Corky Laing & The Memory Thieves”. They are also working with Corky in Finland, writing, recording & performing on a rock opera called “Playing God” which was presented in Helsinki in 2014. The opera was presented in the US in April 2015 at Yale University & Hunter College.

“I love the total rock vibe of the new TANG CD! It’s real, it’s vital - it’s brilliant.” - Corky Laing

TANG is featured in the new Fred Carpenter film, “Charlie Mantle”, performing their song “Crashing”. The film debuted summer of 2014 and stars Armand Assante, Sean Young and Robert Funaro. Says Bonnie, “TANG was in the film performing the song in a Russian mob club as the lead character, Robert Funaro (of The Soprano's), is at the end of his dirty cop career & everything is 'crashing' down around him. Great concept by director Fred Carpenter!”

Watch TANG's new video:

Now much to the excitement of their fans worldwide, on September 1, 2015, TANG is releasing their new CD “Blood & Sand”!

Our first CD, 'Mental Pollution' was on a Swedish label, Raw Power UK, and we toured Scandinavia to support it. The tours were very successful culminating with TANG performing at the Sweden Rock Fest.”

Deadline Music To Release Anthology By Hard Rock Legends AXE - “Rock 'n' Roll Party In The Streets”!

Los Angeles - Much to the excitement of rock fans worldwide, Deadline Music will be releasing a 2CD blockbuster career retrospective from one of the unsung heroes of classic hard rock who toured with every major metal act from Iron Maiden to KISS to Mötley Crüe, the indomitable AXE! The anthology includes the band's biggest hit single “Rock 'n' Roll Party In The Streets,” plus select cuts from the much sought after first 2 studio albums and much more!

AXE was formed in 1978 from the ashes of a band called Babyface and began recording their first album, “AXE” in 1979 and started a tour that lasted until 1984. Their second album, “Living On The Edge”, followed in 1980. In 1981, AXE changed labels and recorded “Offering” for ATCO Atlantic featuring the hit “Rock and Roll Party In the Streets.” The song reached #59 on the Billboard charts of the most-played-songs in 1982, and became a nationwide rock anthem. After 19 months of touring with the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, the Scorpions, ZZ Top and Motley Crue, it was time to record the fourth AXE album - “Nemesis”. Continued success meant more touring. Band leader Bobby Barth was seriously injured in a car crash that led to the disbanding AXE and later joining Blackfoot. After his stint with Blackfoot, Barth took his talents to Australia to join Angry Anderson (Rose Tattoo), hitting the Top 5 on the Australian charts.

The reformed 1997 AXE line up featured former Frank Zappa vocalist Bob Harris, Bobby Barth on guitars, Edgar Riley Jr on keyboards and original drummer Teddy Mueller plus bassist Blake Eberhard, and keyboardist Rob Lowe. To his credit, Bob Harris has performed with some of the greatest artists in the music industry. Covering vocals and keys for Frank Zappa, he proved his ability as an outstanding musician and writer. Blake Eberhard is one of Colorado's premier studio and live bassists. He joined AXE after being hired by Barth for several recording sessions, and added a new dimension to the AXE sound. In the interim period between the band's split and the reformation, Edgar Riley Jr had worked with Frank Zappa and had also played with several unidentified bands in the Southern states of America and Teddy Mueller had got involved in the publishing industry.

“AXE has been one of the greatest musical and personal adventures in my life. However, it was always bitter sweet, because the tragic death of Michael Osborne created the space that I later filled. I will always be thankful to my friend Mark Pinske for introducing me to Bobby Barth. From the start he (Bobby) mentored me into the band's style and graciously included me in the writing process, and became one of my dearest friends for life. AXE has always been about the music - not the hype - and I feel honored to be a part of it.” - Bob Harris

A brand new AXE album, “AXE (Twenty Years From Home)” was released in September 1997 featuring re-recorded versions of choice tracks from each of the first four AXE albums, plus two from the recently released V record. For their 2001 album “The Crown” the group inducted new personnel guitarist Danny Masters and drummer Christian Teele. AXE would release a limited edition mini album “Live In America 1981” to commemorate their European 2001 tour dates. In the mid-2000's, AXE reformed again including singer Bob Harris and adding new members, Brad Banhagel, David Landes. The band toured throughout the US and Europe.

Now AXE fans worldwide are rejoicing with the pending release of AXE's “Rock 'n' Roll Party In The Streets – The Best Of”!

Symphonic Metal/Rock Review: Tarja-Luna Park Ride

Release Date: May 29, 2015
Label: earMUSIC

Sometimes the right voice can make all the difference.  The right voice can make everything just click into place and make a song that much more captivating and memorable.  Tarja Turunen has this type of voice.  Her powerful and lovely voice is one of the most dynamic and noticeable working in the genre today.

Known for her time as the lead singer of the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish that she co-founded, Tarja has embarked on a solo career following her departure from the band in 2005.  The soprano has released four solo studio albums to date, with 2013’s Colours in the Dark being the most recent.  In addition to the solo albums, there have been three live albums.  Luna Park Ride is her latest live album, recorded at Stadium Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The album gets off to an okay star with “Dark Star.”  Tarja’s voice sounds good, especially during the chorus, but the sound of the music is not the cleanest sounding and this gets in the way of it from being a stellar start. The crowd screaming on “My Little Phoenix” is always unpleasant to listen at the beginning, but it dies away as the song starts and gets things flowing with some throbbing drums, and heavy guitars. “The Crying Moon” keeps the direction of the album going in the right direction with a real symphonic rocker.

The album really starts hitting its stride with “I Walk Alone.”  It is one of the better songs on the album and the music has a great atmosphere and dark ambience.  The vocals are on point, with a personal quality to them as if she is telling you a story by a campfire before she soars away during the chorus.  “Falling Awake” is a real rocker.  The guitar steals the show with a sweet sounding solo about halfway through the song. With a fairly serene opening, the sound of “Signos” is much lighter and low-key than the rest of the songs. The hard rocking “Little Lies” sports a heavy symphonic metal sound, completed by Tarja’s seductive and hypnotic vocals.

With “Underneath,” the album is right in the middle of its strongest section.  The somber “Underneath” changes the tone, brings down the tempo, and puts Tarja’s powerful vocals on full display.  “Stargazers” brings the tempo right back up and rocking with its manic and spacey sound. “In For a Kill” and “Ciaran’s Well” keep the quality tunes going, especially “Ciaran’s Well” and its kick-ass rock sound that bursts out of the gate and never trips up.

There is a blip on the screen with “Where Were You Last Night / Heaven Is a Place on Earth / Livin’ on a Prayer Medley.” I have heard other medleys like this before and I have never liked them that much.  I particularly do not like it here because I think that these 80s songs do not fit well with the rest of the album and sound out of place.  Thankfully, “Die Alive,” “Until My Last Breath,” and “Wishmaster” are here to end the album on a positive note.  The energetic “Until My Last Breath” has an enticing opening, with seductive, rhythmic vocals, and a pulsating outro.  “Wishmaster” is strong finisher with its wild and lively sound that carries the tenacity of a charging bull.

If you are looking for some sweet symphonic metal music with stellar vocals, then Luna Park Ride is a good place to start.  Sure, there is a song or two that I do not particularly care for, but that does not take away from all the other quality songs on the album.  Tarja’s main draw is her stunning voice and she does not disappoint on Luna Park Ride.

4/5 Stars

Highly Anticipated Prog Metal album on the way from Deadly Circus Fire: ‘The Hydra’s Tailor’

12 track album due on June 16th through Musicarchy Media

Described by Metal Hammer as “one of the most imaginative and formidable” prog bands currently plying their trade, Deadly Circus Fire are a London based band who thrive on getting stronger and stronger in their battle with the mainstream. Their sound has been compared to the likes of Tool, Mastodon and Deftones, mixing heavy guitars with melodious moments to create something special.

And it does take something special to turn heads at publications like Metal Hammer, as well as Classic Rock, who described Deadly Circus Fire as “one of the most striking young prog metal bands to come on the scene in the past couple of years". For a taste of what Deadly Circus Fire are all about, here’s the video for album track ‘House of Plagues’:

It’s clear that Deadly Circus Fire are a band who will make a mark on the metal music scene. They’ve already supported huge cult band Skindred on a European tour, counting it among their career highlights so far. They also previously caused quite a stir by performing in zombie clown make up.

In time though, the music of Deadly Circus Fire has evolved to speak for itself, making a huge impact both live and in the studio without the need for such on stage histrionics.
