Japan/Porcupine Tree Keyboardist Richard Barbieri Releases 360° Video For “Solar Sea” Taken From His Forthcoming New Studio Album Planets + Persona

“What other planets are out there? Could there be any life 40 light-years away?” - The new 360° video for Richard Barbieri’s track “Solar Sea”, explores these questions, imagines these new worlds - colliding planets, ice crystals inside a hollow comet, volcanic asteroids spewing molten lava into open space and a breathtaking finale.

VIEW HERE:

360° VIDEO VIEWING INSTRUCTIONS:
To view Richard Barbieri's Solar Sea in 360, you will need to view the video using the latest version of the YouTube app on iOS and Android. By moving your smartphone or tablet, you will be able to look around the 360 degree view. To watch on a desktop or laptop computer, you will need to make sure you are using the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera. You will then be able to move the view by clicking and dragging inside the video player or by using the WASD keys. For the most immersive experience, we recommend using a VR headset.

Having seen the “Solar Sea” video for the first time using a VR headset Richard enthusiastically states “THAT WAS INCREDIBLE! It’s amazing that Miles (Skarin) has captured the movement and turbulence of planets, the particles and matter that I was trying to reference in the music. It’s a totally immersive experience and, along with the artwork, another important addition to the album experience”

360° video producer Miles Skarin (www.crystalspotlight.com) explains the development process and techniques behind this stunning visual journey “Following the concept of Solar Sea and drawing on the album artwork, we created dramatic environments which showcase the variety and possibility of distant planets and star systems. We wanted to create visually intricate scenes - large planets colliding, ice crystals spanning across a hollow comet and even a volcanic asteroid spewing molten lava into space. These scenes were created in Maxon's Cinema 4D by building the individual objects required for each scene and placing them in 3D space. To render the scenes, we used Video Copilot's Element 3D, which allowed us to add materials and lighting. We then animated a path for the camera to follow which would become our 360 degree viewpoint. The scenes were set up for 360 VR using Mettle's Skybox plugin. These tools and plugins were all brought together using Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro, which create a very solid pipeline for 360 VR video production.”

Planets + Persona, the new album from Japan and Porcupine Tree keyboardist, Richard Barbieri, was recorded in London, Italy and Sweden; and is Barbieri's most ambitious, thoroughly engrossing and immersive album to date.  He skilfully utilises the talents of a pan-European core of musicians to produce an album that marries synthesized sounds with organic instrumentation to conjure up vivid, colourful and allusive soundscapes. It’s a skilful commingling of texture and tone, mood and musicality.

As an ex-founder of the new-wave pioneers Japan, Barbieri was a leader in creating the ground-breaking synthesizer sound that defined the band and influenced the likes of The Human League, Duran Duran, Gary Numan, Talk Talk and a whole raft of artists to follow. Together, the band recorded five studio albums culminating in the groundbreaking Tin Drum, which stayed in the UK Albums Chart for a year.

Following Japan, and a decade of collaborations on his own Medium label, Barbieri joined Steven Wilson's Porcupine Tree, playing keyboards on all the band’s albums since 1993 as well as releasing two striking solo albums: Things Buried and Stranger Inside.

His ear for composing unique soundscapes and synth textures has led to collaboration albums with other talented composers, such as Steve Hogarth (Marillion) Steve Jansen & Mick Karn (Japan) and Tim Bowness (No-Man)

Steven Wilson comments on the song “Even though I don't really write songs with specific projects in mind, as soon as I wrote this one I knew it was for Blackfield.” He continues on the idea behind the track, “From 44 to 48 is a song about growing older and letting go of dreams.”

Stick Men Feat. King Crimson Members Release New Video “Prog Noir”

Germany - Hot on the heels of their critically acclaimed new album “Prog Noir”, Stick Men have released a new video of the same name. Stick Men features Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto of King Crimson and Markus Reuter.

Says Tony Levin, “We're thrilled at the video Ofrin has made for our song 'Prog Noir'. She's an excellent artist in her own right, musical and visual, and made the video on her own, then presented it to us. It's pretty special when you find that your music has inspired others to create something new and special.”

Watch Stick Men's new video “Prog Noir” here:

Stick Men is a progressive rock band created by musicians with extensive experience playing together. Pat Mastelotto and Tony Levin are the rhythm section of the legendary band King Crimson. Mastelotto is in demand all over the world as the premier drummer for progressive rock. Levin plays in Crimson, with Peter Gabriel, and has recorded with John Lennon, David Bowie, Pink Floyd and others. Markus Reuter is a renowned composer/guitarist who designed and plays his own unique touch style guitar.

Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto, the powerhouse bass and drums of the group King Crimson for more than 2 decades, bring that tradition to all their playing. Levin plays the Chapman Stick, from which the band takes it’s name. Having bass and guitar strings, the Chapman Stick functions at times like two instruments. Markus Reuter plays his 8-string touch guitar – again covering much more ground than a guitar or a bass. And Mastelotto’s drumming encompasses not just the acoustic kit, but a unique electronic setup too, allowing him to add loops, samples, percussion, and more.

The result; audiences are fascinated by watching just three musicians onstage perform their unique compositions as well as wild improvisations and some cover versions of songs by King Crimson, Mike Oldfield, etc.

Before “Prog Noir”, Stick Men have released 4 studio CDs (Soup, Absalom, DEEP, Open) as well as two live albums.

Here's what the press have said about “Prog Noir”:

“ 'Prog Noir' is easily the best album of Stick Men and perhaps best album in this particular sub-genre in recent years.” - Erik Groeneweg, Progwereld

“ 'Prog Noir' would not sound out of place heard next to any number of post-1980 Fripp-Crimson LPs with its oddly angled tuneful melodies and slightly askew yet utterly coherent rhythms.” - David Luhrssen, Shepherd Express

“In short, if you buy this album you will have in hand something very original, satisfying and great sound quality. A must for fans of King Crimson and minutes of pleasure for others.” - Profil Prog

“The music is complex and full of strange and unusual sounds all the while still maintaining a toe-tapping approachability. It's a fun disc to listen to. In summation fans of these guys may be a little surprised at just how likable these tunes are, but if you are new to this trio, 'Prog Noir' is the perfect place to start your investigation of these remarkable musicians.” - Jerry Lucky

“ 'Prog Noir' is by far the most well-crafted and accessible set of songs Stick Men have written thus far. The fact it manages to be so without sacrificing the members' astonishing musicianship or penchant for syncopation and odd rhythms is a success in and of itself.” - Cameron Piko, Echoes and Dust

“ 'Prog Noir' is an exciting album, in which there is to discover a lot of details. Food for stomach, heart and brain alike, as have the three actually surpassed by stick-point again themselves.” - Thomas Kohlruß, Babyblaue-Seiten

“Sinister, Out-of-the-blue time changes, and peculiar rhythms that will keep you guessing until the very end, Stick Men's new album is like as I've mentioned a film score straight out of a Mystery/Horror film with a strange plot twist. If you love the sounds of King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, and Igor Stravinsky, I recommend 'Prog Noir'.” - Zachary Nathanson Blogspot

Boston Hard Rockers Neon Alley To Release New Video “That's How It Is”

Boston, MA - Hot on the heels of their critically acclaimed self-titled debut album, Boston rockers Neon Alley are releasing a new video “That's How It Is”!

Watch Neon Alley's “That's How It Is” video:

A Young Woman wakes on the floor, trapped in a nebulous white room. It's minimalistic and sparse but evokes the future. There's only a white cube furniture piece with a VR headset on the center. She waves her hand over the cube and holograms of the band appear behind her (in the style of Star Wars holograms). They begin to play. As the guitar lead begins, she dons the headset and is taken to various spaces in a Virtual Reality world. And in each scene she becomes a different person.

In each scene she experiences what it's like being in someone else's body through her avatar. Some bodies are interesting. Other bodies are uncomfortable. So she leaves each scene in search of a better body/persona until she finds herself in an avatar that looks just like her own body except she's clean, nicely dressed in 50’s retro style. The body fits so well that she begins to dance and rocks out, having the time of her life.

End with her back in the white room as she sits down, sweaty, and removes the VR headset. She laughs. What a blast.

Camera cuts to a WS outside of the room and we see multiple rooms, each with one person. Each person looks dejected, upset or depressed. Except for her.

Says guitarist and band leader Dave Vaccaro, “The video, like the song is about the people we cross paths with and interact with everyday. Kind, clever, smart, slow, inspiring, funny, good or bad. It's just how people are and that's never going to change. The only thing that you can control is how you react to them. Like our woman in theVR headset (played by Shannon Ashe), some of the people she becomes she likes. Others she finds interesting, and still others she can do without.

“Wouldn't it be interesting to be somebody else for a time? Who would you be if you could be someone else for a day?

“Directed by Valdimir Minuty the video is one of several interpretations of the song that the band felt best represented the idea of 'That's How It Is'. Since Vlad is an artist as well as a film maker (he does great story boards BTW) he was able to translate the feel of the song in a very basic way that worked quite well given the limited resources we had available to us.

One thing we didn't want was a typical performance video of the band playing in some dilapidated industrial building. We really like how the video turned out, especially the sci-fi vibe of it. It's different.”

The live footage was shot all in one day at a studio/sound stage in Allston, MA called Red Sky Studio with post production taking another few weeks for edits and revisions.

NEON Alley is:
David Vaccaro – Lead vocals, guitars, keyboards
Mike McDonald – Bass, vocals
Scott Marion – Drums & percussion

BACKGROUND: David Vaccaro's story in music has a rare upward sweep. Vaccaro has journeyed from hardscrabble Boston club dates to the 90's music scene of Los Angeles and creative collaborations with some of melodic rock's platinum selling vocalists. With the self-titled debut album of his new band Neon Alley (out on DMV Music), Vaccaro revisits that visceral soulfulness of his early days. This collection of originals including a cleverly re-imagined cover is perfectly crafted for sweat-soaked live performances.

And Neon Alley has been doing just that, sweat-soaked live performances in clubs in and around Central Massachusetts, working their live show and earning a reputation as one of the best live bands in the area.

Here's what's being said about Neon Alley's debut album:

“...David carries a talent for carrying a tune, and there are plenty of those reverberating in hummable hard rock fashion. Highlights are carved out in the form of 'That's How It Is', a catchy rock anthem and the dreamy echoes of 'I Only Want to Be With You'. The cover of 'Jailhouse Rock' is another favorite; a refreshing reworking of the classic...” - Daniel Pavlica, therocktologist.com

“This album chock full of guitar-driven modern classic rockers kicks off in fine style with the thunderous 'That's How It Is', and backs it up with the more melodic 'All I Want', before that aforementioned cover, a rather unexpectedly ballsy 'Jailhouse Rock'. Wow, what a brilliant rendition these boys bring to the fore here, which they follow up with the drum-led 'I Only Want To Be With You'.” - Exclusive Magazine

“Neon Alley, It is loud, it is brash, it is exactly what Classic Rock should be.” - Simon Barrett, Blog Talk Radio

“NEON ALLEY: A solid dose of arena rock in search of an arena, this power trio delivers the kind of classic headbang that will speak for the generation throughout the generations. For teens that go to music festivals where it’s about rocking out instead of seeing and being seen, it’s like the 80s and 90s never left. Hot stuff that raging hormones will totally understand.”  - midwestrecord.com

“Grab a copy of this album, put it into your car, roll the windows down and crank it up while it’s still warm out and cruise to your heart’s content.” -  Altered Frequencies.com

“The new eight-song release begins with the guitar-riff driving rhythm of "That's How It Is" which will get the blood pumping.”  - JP's MusicBlog.com

Alternative Rockers Lunden Reign Release Poignant New Single & Video “Red Wagon (Can't Return To Yesterday)”

Los Angeles - Lunden Reign's recent CrueFest concert at the world famous Whisky A Go-Go in West Hollywood proved to be yet another powerhouse show. While sharing the stage with heavy hitters L.A. Story, Westfield Massacre and Blacklist Union, Nikki & Laura along with bassist Matt Denis, Julian Tomarin (guitar) and Matt Lucich (drums) brought that unmistakable Lunden Reign vibe to the Whisky and the packed house it entertained.

Their set rocked out with 4 brand new songs set to release on their upcoming album including the title track “Confessions” and “Red Wagon”. Nikki wooed those packed tight up to the stage with “Stardust Daze” and topped it off with the edgy and environmentally charged “Fate of the World”, bringing tears to the eyes of several fans.

Their just released first single and video “Red Wagon (Can't Return To Yesterday)” is the first of 10 songs from “Confessions”. Both the song and video have been submitted and accepted for Grammy consideration in “BEST VIDEO” and “BEST NEW SINGLE” categories.

Says Nikki, “I'm really thrilled about this next record. "Red Wagon" is a powerhouse, and a couple of the other songs hit me super hard which makes them easy to perform emotionally. I hope that what we did at the Whisky recently will transcend into the studio - performances like that are what I hope to share with our fans. If you close your eyes and listen, if you feel like your with us, then I've done my job as the lead singer.”

Watch the video trailer for “Red Wagon”:

Early reviews are already raving that it is clear Lunden Reign is stepping it up yet another notch:

From RAY SHASHO (Classic Rock Hear & Now Radio):
“ 'Red Wagon (Can't Return to Yesterday)' by Lunden Reign is by far the best song and music video to date by one of the finest bands to arrive on the rock music scene since the 90's. Nikki & Laura Lunden are a seductive badass duo liberating rock to its glory days. Laura's proficient songwriting and masterful electric licks are driven by Nikki's amazing vocals and intensity. The girls acquired a similar musical brilliance and tenacity as legends… Heart, Joan Jett, The Bangles, The Go Go's and Letters to Cleo. And if 'Red Wagon (Can’t Return to Yesterday)' is an indication of even better things to come, than their new album to be release at the end of this year entitled 'Confessions' should be epic! The song and video are up for Grammy consideration in 'BEST VIDEO' and 'BEST NEW SINGLE'… They've got my vote, I truly love this band!”

From CHRIS C. (Bloody Good Music Reviewer):
“Coming off the success of their fantastic debut album, Lunden Reign's new single, 'Red Wagon (Can't Return To Yesterday)', continues their establishment as one of the best classic rock bands of recent years. With powerful and delicate guitars that are pure rock and roll, and a rousing chorus delivered with Nikki Lunden's Stevie Nicks meets Sheryl Crow voice, Lunden Reign has lit the fuse that will surely explode in another fantastic album. It's easy to sound vintage, but hard to sound classic. That's the rare skill 'Red Wagon' is able to achieve.”

From: Warren Kurtz (Contributing Editor Goldmine Music Magazine):
“In 2015, Lunden Reign's solid ten song debut album American Stranger, featuring 'Hear Me', received high praise from fellow Los Angeles female led groups  including Terri Nunn from Berlin, Dale Bozzio from Missing Persons and Martha Davis from the Motels, all who achieved national success in the '80s. Lunden Reign's new single, 'Red Wagon (Can't Return to Yesterday)', from their upcoming sophomore release 'Confessions', invokes a bit of a '90s blend of powerful Foo Fighters-like guitar work combined with the alternative pop sounds of Letters to Cleo. The song's producer, and Train's lead guitarist, Luis Maldonado, also supplies harmonies in addition to doubling the electric guitar impact of Laura Lunden, as fans first heard on American Stranger.  Matthew Denis and Matt Lucich provide a solid rhythm section on bass and drums, respectively, and are heard very clearly at the beginning of the bridge on this recording, mastered at Capitol in Hollywood. Lunden Reign's growing fan base will certainly consider 'Red Wagon' to be another winner from this talented new group.”

From: Michael McKenna, (Nor'easter Entertainment Magazine):
Cali's Lunden Reign has returned with some awesome new material from their upcoming sophomore LP, “Confessions”, the followup to their highly successful debut LP, “American Stranger.” The single opens with high-energy slammin' guitars and pounding percussion that morphs into the angelic pipes of the ladies who will grab your ass and hold you captive with their melodic, tight harmonies. The chorus is totally infectious and the bridge takes you to another place in a minute and is monstrous. The outro has you thinking more is coming and then slaps you upside the head. Laura and Nikki Lunden give the listener more than they bargain for with their tight vox and Luis Maldonado's vox and guitar adds that perfect balance. The musicians are totally spot-on from Matthew Denis on bottom to Matt Lucich on skins to the jammin riffs. I like the fact that it is upbeat with a driving beat which makes for a great dance tune at a rock club. This track is a KILLER CUT! I look forward to hearing the remainder of the LP. This single is a MUST LISTEN. On the Nor'easter Storm Scale, I give this a FORCE 4! WELL DONE!

Lunden Reign is composed of two core members: Nikki Lunden (Lead Vocals/Guitar/Composer) and Laura Espinoza-Lunden (Guitar/Composer). Producer Luis Maldonado joins as guitarist on select shows and the duo tours with some of LA’s top musicians including: Matt Denis (bass) & Matt Lucich (drums). Lunden Reign's music is described as 'Big Beat Alternative Rock' or 'Modern Classic Rock'. Some say it's the signature album for “ROCK's REBIRTH”. The band's debut concept album “American Stranger” was released on Cleopatra Records March 17, 2015 and began receiving world-wide critical acclaim almost immediately. The 10 original songs are scored with layers of haunting melodies, uplifting guitar riffs blended with a sharp edge and a massive beat.

Laura Espinoza-Lunden's innovative synth guitar riffs along with Nikki Lunden's voice have been at the foreground for the two front women to define the Lunden Reign sound, enhanced by long time producer & co-writer Luis Maldonado (Train, Lisa Marie Presley). The trio are thrilled to have “The Matt's”, Denis and Lucich, joining them for the sophomore album along with master mix-engineer Devin Hoffman. “Confessions” is tuning up to be a phenomenal release, touching on a bit more personal subjects and addressing some of the more pressing matters of the world. The band is currently in writing and recording sessions finishing up the last few songs and hope to have a release announcement soon.

Their first album “AMERICAN STRANGER” received critical acclaim and made multiple music magazine’s “TOP 10-BEST OF” Lists for 2015. You can hear songs and watch their videos at LundenReign.com.
