Gary Clark Jr.
POWNAL, VT (July 14, 2015) — Guitars, guitars, guitars! They’re the engines driving the hip shakin’, butt-quakin’ rock ‘n’ roll that will be reverberating through the green mountains of southern Vermont next month when THE FULL TILT BOOGIE music festival brings ZZ Top, Gary Clark Jr., Buddy Guy, Blackberry Smoke, the Marshall Tucker Band, Trigger Hippy (feat. Joan Osborne & Jackie Greene), the Wood Brothers, Albert Lee featuring Cindy Cashdollar, Girls Guns & Glory and so much more to the alternating main stages of the newly revived scenic festival grounds at Green Mountain Racetrack.

THE FULL TILT BOOGIE, an historic one-day, two-stage guitar extravaganza set for Aug. 22, is by far the biggest music festival to play this picturesque setting since it hosted over 30,000 music lovers for the Lollapalooza Music Festival almost two decades ago.

Tickets for THE FULL TILT BOOGIE are on sale NOW through Ticketmaster at $92.50. Free parking is included. Gates open 10 a.m. Complete information at www.greenmountainlive.com.

“THE FULL TILT BOOGIE features bands whose music meets at ‘the crossroads’ of Roadhouse Boogie, Southern Rock, Blue-eyed soul, Rockabilly and The Blues,” says promoter Tony Pallagrosi of UMT Presents, whose New Jersey concert company is aligning with Green Mountain Live! and TTM to produce the progressive, environment-friendly event. “This year’s inaugural festival features some incredible guitar-fueled artists. It’s gonna be 11 hours of some of the best hip shakIn’ music on the planet!”

Guitar fans won’t be able to resist the incendiary sounds and the serene surroundings that THE FULL TILT BOOGIE will deliver to the Pownal Valley, one of the most beautiful in all of Vermont.

And in another first, THE FULL TILT BOOGIE is using electric power generated by renewable resources. Hence the appropriately named Green Stage, which will be home to revered roots music troubadour Seth Walker; NJ Americana rockers Stolen Rhodes; high energy, “riffy” power trio Wild Adriatic; the Tangier Blues Band, led by world renowned rock photographer and music documentarian Danny Clinch; and local favorites T Bone Daddy.

Nestled between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Taconic Mountains in New York, it’s home to scenic farms and villages and the perfect destination for weekend getaways. Situated quietly between Bennington, VT and Williamstown, MA, the town of Pownal is known as "The Gateway to Vermont," with a rich history that predates the Revolutionary War.

THE FULL TILT BOOGIE promises its own revolution, musically speaking. It’s sparking a music festival revival at Green Mountain Racetrack, the first of numerous music festivals being planned for the site in the spring, summer, and fall of 2016 and beyond. THE FULL TILT BOOGIE music festival offers convenient and spacious access with outstanding acoustics in a breathtaking setting.

After arriving through secure gates, attendees can spread out with plenty of room to see the stage, hear the music, and enjoy the festival’s wide array of top food truck vendors and beverage distillers from around New England. Green Mountain Racetrack offers easy access from across New England and the tri-state areas with a 45 minute drive from Albany and less than three hours from Boston, New York City, and Hartford. While there is plenty of parking available on site, attendees are encouraged to carpool, access the area via Peter Pan Bus Lines, or use the venue’s free bike storage. The Pownal area has many surrounding activities and is known for weekend getaways.

RYDE, a crowd-sourcing transportation company, has partnered with Green Mountain Live! to provide regional shuttle service to THE FULL TILT BOOGIE, enabling upscale motor coaches to shuttle fans to the festival grounds  from surrounding cities and states, and provide an economical, environmentally-friendly, and highly social alternative to single-car driving.

Concert Reviews: Johnny Winter Remembrance Concert In Woodstock NY

The Johnny Winter Remembrance At The Bearsville Theater
Woodstock, NY
November 22, 2014
All Photographs Provided By Lois Dysard

We lost one of the great blues brothers the world has ever known in July this year, Johnny Winter.

His music will live on for eternity and his guitar player/producer and protégée Paul Nelson, is making sure that music fans are still getting the opportunity to hear Johnny’s music played in a live setting.

The band consists of Paul Nelson on guitar, Scott Spray on bass, Tommy Curiale on Drums, and Jay Stollman on vocals. With the exception of Stollman, this was Winter’s band. Also special guest Ronnie Baker Brooks (Lonnie Brooks’ son) added some gusto to the show with his excellent guitar playing and vocals.

The night kicked off with a screening of Down and Dirty, an account of Johnny’s life and recent footage of him touring around the world. The film was a very up close and personal view into the blues legend’s life and something most fans probably never had a chance to see. The DVD is due out in January and there are some high expectations as would be expected.

I had a conversation with Paul and found out Step Back, Johnny’s album released in September, is up for Grammy consideration  In addition to that Paul is up for consideration for Producer of The Year. All of this recognition is well deserved and I do hope there is some hardware to display on their mantels once all the voting and ceremonies are over.

This was the first time I had the opportunity to see Paul play live on his own for every song when I attended concerts. He is quite the guitar player and he knows how to electrify the songs with some killer rockin’ riffs. I can see why Johnny had this band behind him all these years as they all sound terrific live. They obviously have the necessary chemistry to mesh on stage and in the studio. I don’t want to wait another five years this time before I see Paul Nelson again and enjoy all of this great music. Paul does have a new solo album coming out early next year so I am looking forward to that.He is quite the guitar player and he knows how to electrify the songs with some killer rockin’ riffs.

After the film viewing (which is 90 minutes) there is a short break then the band comes on stage. They started of full steam ahead with a rousing version of “Bony Maronie.”  From that point the band took the appreciative audience through some of Johnny’s favorite tracks including some from the new album Step Back. One song certainly that is very special for Paul is “Killing Floor,” where he did a duet with Johnny on the new album.

Another highlight of the evening was “Don't Take Advantage of Me,” featuring Ronnie Baker Brooks on guitar and vocals. Musically I think it was the best song of the evening and it was great to discover another up and coming blues artist. I mentioned to Paul after the show it would nice to see him as a permanent member of the band at some point. Brooks’ on stage energy and performance certainly added another dimension to the music and presentation.

If you are ever in upstate New York make sure you check out the charming little town of Woodstock and the beautiful Bearsville Theater. The venue is a converted 1800’s barn and right next door is the Woodstock Radio Station , 100.1 on the dial.

I would like to thank Paul Nelson for making this night happen, all the cordial folks at the venue and Lois Dysard for all the great photos.

I hope to catch another show again sometime very soon!

World-Renowned Guitar Player Steve Hunter Releases Live CD & DVD 'Tone Poems Live'

“Steve is a wonderful musician with great chops and a big heart.” - Peter Gabriel

Los Angeles, CA - For the first time ever, Blues Rock Guitarist Steve Hunter, renowned for his work with Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed and Alice Cooper, is captured on film playing a career-spanning anthology in an intimate setting with some of the worlds finest players.

Also featuring Tony Levin, Phil Aaberg and Alvino Bennett!

The DVD, titled 'Tone Poems Live', was filmed on August 24th 2013 at a recording studio in LA. Alongside Steve was Tony Levin on Bass (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson) Phil Aaberg on Keyboards (Elvin Bishop, Peter Gabriel) Alvino Bennett on Drums (Dave Mason, Robin Trower).

They rehearsed for two days and filmed on the third day as though it were in front of an audience. Fourteen tunes, each played twice, with no overdubs added later. The material was chosen from most of Steve’s solo albums plus a few covers, including ‘Solsbury Hill’ ‘What’s Going On’ and Stevie Ray Vaughan’s ‘Riviera Paradise’.

“The soulful notes that Steve Hunter plays have the perfect balance of fat warm tone, taste and personality” - Steve Vai

This is the first time Steve Hunter has ever been filmed doing his own material plus material of his own choice. Steve is now legally blind and although not out of the question, touring has become more of a challenge. The recording session was produced and recorded by Brian Brinkerhoff and Paul Lani.

Tony Levin: “Steve is one of those wonderful musicians who speaks from the heart”

Phil Aaberg: “There’s something about the subtlety, the texture and the tone quality that he gets with an individual note, to me that’s a great guitar player”

Alvino Bennett: “I’m hearing all three Kings; Albert, BB and Freddy”

Jason Becker: “I can't put into words how much your soul comes out of your fingers. Everyone should see and hear this DVD”!

Blues Music Award Winners Trampled Under Foot & Mike Zito Lead An Array Of Stellar Blues Artists On A Salute To Creedence Clearwater Revival!

Also features Blitzen Trapper, Duke Robillard, Sonny Landreth, The Mynabirds, and more!

Los Angeles, CA - Proving once again that good songs know no bounds or genre, a host of superstar blues artists bring their immense skills and talents to bear on the classic rock canon of John Fogerty and his legendary Creedence Clearwater Revival. The result is a fascinating new perspective on the widely celebrated and deeply influential music of the great CCR! The project will see a release on CD this July 22 on Cleopatra Records.

Founded in California’s San Francisco Bay Area in the late ‘60s, Creedence Clearwater Revival had their first taste of major success in 1969 with “Proud Mary,” a rollicking slice of swampy roots rock that rolled on the river to the No. 2 spot on the Billboard charts, and quickly became the group’s most covered song including an unforgettable 1971 version by Ike & Tina Turner. Hit after hit followed: “Bad Moon Rising,” “Green River,” “Down On The Corner,” “Fortunate Son,” and an absolutely astonishing string of 6 platinum-selling albums. Fogerty & Co. had not only achieved immense commercial success but they also came to be appreciated by music critics everywhere as one of the quintessential American rock bands, and fittingly were inducted into the Rock Hall Of Fame in 1993.

Since the group’s breakup in 1972, numerous bands and artists have offered their own spins on CCR’s greatest songs, but none as unique as the versions heard here. Kicking things off is slide guitar legend Sonny Landreth’s brilliant transformation of “Fortunate Son’s” punchy, iconic riff into a shifty, multi-note melody as vocalist Mike Zito (of Royal Southern Brotherhood) sings along. Portland’s own Blitzen Trapper, a critical favorite of the blues-folk revivalist set, turns in a dirty stomping, harmonica and organ infused take on the classic “Proud Mary,” while another indie favorite The Mynabirds offer an appropriately spooky “Bad Moon Rising.” One of the biggest names in modern blues, the great Duke Robillard, shines on a heartbreaking rendition of “Who’ll Stop The Rain,” and what better way to close the album than with the 2014 Blues Music Awards winners for Contemporary Blues Album Of The Year, Trampled Under Foot, who stir up a potent gumbo of gritty vocals and shimmering guitar on “Born On The Bayou.” These treats and many more await fans of CCR, blues music, and lovers of timeless Americana rock!

1. Fortunate Son - Mike Zito & Sonny Landreth
2. Bad Moon Rising - The Mynabirds
3. Proud Mary - Blitzen Trapper
4. Down On The Corner - Spirit Family Reunion
5. Have You Ever Seen The Rain - Dead Man Winter
6. Looking Out My Back Door - LeRoux
7. Who’ll Stop The Rain - Duke Robillard
8. Up Around The Bend - South Memphis String Band
9. Susie Q - Will Wilde
10. Run Through The Jungle - Smokin’ Joe Kubek & Bnois King
11. Green River - Kirk Fletcher
12. Born On The Bayou - Trampled Under Foot

NYC Classic Rock 'n' Soul Band Rickity Featuring Members of The Lizards, Cactus & Vanilla Fudge Release Debut Album 'Greatest Hits'

NYC – Highly anticipated debut album by “super group” Rickity, a New York City, classic rock 'n' soul band performing great original songs, is now available! Featuring bassist/harpist Randy Pratt, best known for his work with The Lizards, Cactus and Vanilla Fudge, the new album titled 'Greatest Hits' has been released on Hyperspace records. The band members have played, toured the world and recorded with Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, The Funky Knights, Seven Turns and The Lizards. In Rickity they have found their ultimate vehicle of expression. The seasoned rockers have added highly respected R&B vocalist Perrita Kitson and the combination is thrilling. Lead guitarist Jesse Berlin has the chops, soul and imagination to be at the top of the heavy rock universe. His solos are jaw dropping adventures.

Says Randy Pratt, “Our goal is to combine R&B, soul and blues with classic heavy riff rock. Perrita is the real deal. She spent her whole career in R&B, Soul and Jazz..this is her FIRST rock band!”

Perrita adds, “Rickity’s Recipe is take some hard core classic rock, add some funk, and divvy up some really colorful lyrical lines and you have ….. RICKITY. I hope the Rickity band will be appreciated and admired in representing classic rock.. all the way baby!”

The combination of heavy, classic riff rock, world class R&B, catchy hooks and a fearlessly sexy stance makes Rickity special. A Rickity concert has the feel of a “greatest hits” show...every song memorable. Perrita and percussionist/sampler Paul Gifford share lead vocals and do strong harmonies, insuring there is never a dull moment.

Says Randy, “The band formed in my basement, as usual...lol! Our new guitarist, Jesse Berlin, did his first gig with us on his 21st birthday! He's spectacular! The two Pauls and I (Paul Latimer on guitar and keys, Paul Gifford on vocals, percussion and samples) have played together for decades. We can read each other's minds and complete each other's sentences. Neil Cicione is the engine of the band...a total badass on the drums.”

Rickity has shared stages with the likes of The Doobie Brothers, Billy Squier, Rare Earth and headlining as their star continues to rise. The band will be performing at B.B. King's Blues Club in NYC on June 17, 2014, and the Sellersville Theater in Sellersville, PA opening for Black Oak Arkansas on July 3, 2014!

Watch Rickity live: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWndhuP2Zbw

Says Randy, “We can duplicate everything you hear on our CD live. We have two great singers and we're tight as hell! We are a no B.S., muscular, classic rock band...accent on the HEAVY. We broke some rules with our combining of styles, but it feels natural and intense. Our songs are mostly about sex, so I guess our message is...ENJOY!”

Blues Rock Review: Kelly’s Lot-Live in Brussels

Release Date: July 15, 2011
Label: Kelly’s Lot

Roadhouse rock and upbeat blues is the smoky flavor you get when you pick up a Kelly’s Lot album. Formed in 1995 by singer Kelly Zirbes after playing for family and friends, she embarked on an international music career that has spanned several releases and multiple live performances. Live in Brussels was released in Belgium and in the United States. After touring France and the UK in late 2013, the band will soon begin a new recording for a full band album introducing keys and a horn section. The band consists of Kelly Zirbes (songwriting, vocals), Peter Robinson (composer, keyboards), Matt McFadden (bass) and Rob Zucca (guitar).

Live albums can sometimes be a fifty-fifty shot. Some are good and you get the emotion of the band. Some make you want to hide in the closet and turn the album into a coaster. Live in Brussels is thankfully the former. I listen to music while I write. Most of the time the sound blends into the background and becomes part of my story in one way or another. This album took me to another place-a smoky blues café. How wonderful. The Americana and Southern roadhouse rock sound of this live album took me out my world and into Kelly’s. Sultry female vocals and vibrant percussion and guitar led me down the road to perdition and I was thrilled to be on the journey.

“Taking Time” or “Coffee” is a morning song that wakes you up as sure as its name. This piece should be my mantra! A writer’s life incarnate!  Somewhat familiar in the background melody, this song rockets up and gets you moving like a double shot of espresso. Deadlines, madness…and then the thought of a lover stops time and shifts things back into focus. Guitar swings out, Southern rock style and the warm pull of the percussion slides down my throat like my favorite salted caramel mocha and I smile. This song rocks.

“Tired” surrounds you with curling guitar riffs and smoking hot bass. Joplin style vocals growl from Kelly Z. bringing the listener right in the center of the action. Soul searing lyrics of loss and a want for love burn from the center of this song. Southern rock meets the blues and I didn’t want it to end.

“Take This Heart” has to be one of my favorites on the album. Kelly’s vocals ease their way into place with a steady percussion and guitar element. Morphing into a gritty performance of longing, I was enthralled. Every emotion comes through, screaming and loud. Guitar riffs flair and bend the piece into a complex weave of harmony and substance.

Live from Brussels is an album that illustrates the blues and rock styles of Kelly’s Lot. Known for their Americana roots rock style, this band is headed for great things. Internationally known and ready to step back into the studio, I am excited to see they are getting a horn section and will also be adding some keys to the mix. Five stars with flames and this band is worth every second. Earthy tones, vibrant percussion, rocking guitar and bass with vocals that will curl your toes…what more can you ask for? Kelly Z. and her crew are going on my bands to watch list and I eagerly await their next album.
