Los Angeles, CA - 2020 has been one helluva productive year for Alan Davey. Not only did Mr. Davey, best known as the former bass player for British space rock legends Hawkwind, launch a new album by his Hawkwind supergroup Hawkestrel, the adventurous Pioneers Of Space, but he also saw the release of a 4CD set of demos called Four-Track Mind as well as a 3CD set from Davey’s prog rock side project Pre-Med and even joined Danny B. Harvey’s rockabilly project Headcat 13 for an album! And now to top it all off, Davey has returned with a sleigh full of superb musical guests on an all-new Hawkestrel Christmas album! SpaceXmas includes performances by former Deep Purple vocalist Glenn Hughes, keyboard wizard Rick Wakeman, The Doors’ Robby Krieger plus Hawkwind alums Huw Lloyd-Langton, Nik Turner, and lots more who blaze their way through revamped versions of holiday favorites such as “We Three Kings,” “O Come All Ye Faithful” and “Silent Night” next to original compositions such as “It’s A Wonderful (Funny Old) Life” and the hilarious “Twelve Daze Of Drinxmas.”

Davey had this to share about the album, “My goal with this album was to turn Xmas songs into non-cheesy space rock pieces anyone could enjoy listening to. That was difficult enough, but in 110 degrees Fahrenheit in July/August and in the Californian high desert was kind of surreal. It turned out better than I expected.......Happy SpaceXmas!”

He provided vocals or harmonica to 16 of the 18 songs.”

Legendary CAN Vocalist DAMO SUZUKI Teams Up With German Space Rockers JELLY PLANET On A New Album!

Los Angeles, CA - Damo Suzuki, former lead vocalist for the massively influential krautrock band Can, has famously retired from studio recording. However, he continues to perform live concerts made up solely of compositions improvised entirely on the spot. These bold and fearless performances have enthralled audiences around the globe and brought new found attention to Suzuki’s incredible talent. Purple Pyramid Records is proud to present a new chapter in Suzuki’s ongoing musical explorations, a stunning collaboration with a German quartet of Can neophytes, going by the very Can-esque name of Jelly Planet. After performing live with Damo, the band was able to coax the singer into their studio for a fully improvised full length recording. Unlike previous Suzuki recordings, the studio setting gave the performers full control over every aspect of the recording ensuring that every nuance, inflection, and dynamic could be heard. The result is an album of incredible sonic quality and an authentically mind-blowing exploration into the outer edges of space rock! The self-titled album, Damo Suzuki & Jelly Planet, will be available on CD, vinyl (as a double LP set) and in digital formats starting February 2.

Los Angeles, CA - The Return Of The Thunder Rider! Hawkwind co-founder Nik Turner teleports back to Earth with a brand new album, Life In Space, to be released on September 29 via Purple Pyramid Records. The album features some of Nik’s most mature songs in years including the emotional opener “End Of The World” featuring a special guest performance by former Hawkwind/Pink Fairies member Paul Rudolph. Frequently called “The Spirit Of Hawkwind,” Turner was a major creative force during that group’s most critically acclaimed and successful period, 1969-1976. His outlandish costumes, improvised sax and flute playing, and general wild man persona became iconic representations of the band, and we would go on to pen some of their most popular songs including “Brainstorm” and “Master of the Universe.” After leaving Hawkwind, Turner used his newfound freedom to travel to Egypt, where he soaked up the history and culture, and also made a recording of his flute music in the King’s Chamber of the Great Pyramid of Cheops. In 1985, Turner relocated to the western side of Wales, where he set up a new age community in a fairly rural, isolated area. He has continued to release new music including 2013’s Space Gypsy, 2015’s Space Fusion Odyssey, and this year’s Life In Space.

Los Angeles, CA - Two very different indie films to be released later this year feature soundtracks that make unique use of prog and space rock music. First up is the thrilling action/adventure film set in the Middle East, 8 Assassins - The Beautiful, The Bad And The Ugly, which features one of the most unusual tracks in the entire oeuvre of UK prog-psych rockers Hawkwind, the haunting “Hassan-i Sabbah,” featuring Arabic singing and some brilliant violin work by Simon House. Also featured on the epic 2CD soundtrack are tracks by Hawkwind co-founder Nik Turner, a compelling live track from experimental German band Faust, prog revivalists Hedersleben, and a host of others! Meanwhile, a brand new sci-fi space horror film The Rift - Dark Side Of The Moon features loads of out-of-this-world psychedelic jams including compositions from the Pink Floyd album that inspired the film’s subtitle performed by the legendary John Wetton, XTC’s Colin Moulding as well as The Doors’ Robby Krieger. Also featured are Hungarian prog rock giants Omega as well as not one but two bands featuring avant garde percussionist Mani Neumeier of Guru Guru. So whether you like your prog rock with a little Mid-Eastern influence or prefer the spacier side, these two soundtracks will have plenty to offer! Rare Demos From '70s Space Rock Pioneers CAPTAIN BEYOND Released On The Compilation LOST & FOUND 1972-1973

Los Angeles, CA - It's a music collector's dream come true - vintage demo tracks, never heard before, from space rock supergroup Captain Beyond are about to be released on both CD and special limited edition red colored vinyl! For those new to the band, Captain Beyond are one of the most underappreciated gems of '70s rock. A supergroup of sorts, featuring members of Deep Purple (Rod Evans), Iron Butterfly (Lee Dorman & Rhino Reinhardt), and The Johnny Winter Band (Bobby Caldwell), Captain Beyond released 3 studio albums that caused shockwaves in the music world, the effects of which still ripple to this day.

Legend has it that Duane Allman heard a demo tape of the unsigned Captain Beyond and was so blown away that he all but demanded the band join The Allman Brother's own label Capricorn Records. The rest, of course, is history but those original demos remained buried by time until just recently when they were uncovered by Captain drummer Bobby Caldwell. Now these are being released as Lost & Found 1972-1973 on June 2 via Purple Pyramid Records. Not only will fans be able to hear the original versions of songs such as “I Can't Feel Nothing” and “Dancing Madly Backwards” but there’s a special treat for diehard fans: “Uranus Expressway” is a song that has never appeared on any subsequent Captain Beyond release. Lost & Found will be made available on CD in a deluxe gatefold wallet with extensive liner notes by music historian Dave Thompson as well as a limited edition red colored vinyl pressing!

Nik Turner, Co-Founder Of Space Rock Legends HAWKWIND, Launches A Full-Scale, Coast-To-Coast US Tour!

Los Angeles, CA - Fresh off a whirlwind tour through Europe and Japan, Nik Turner, the inexhaustible saxophone and flute-playing co-founder of space rock legends Hawkwind, will return for another US tour accompanied by up-and-coming kraut/prog rock band Hedersleben. Following what has been widely regarded as the most ambitious album of his career, one that MOJO called “a sprawling but polished album,” Space Fusion Odyssey, Turner continues his astonishing career rebirth with a newly reinvigorated sense of musical creativity and sonic exploration.

Frequently called “The Spirit Of Hawkwind,” Turner was a major creative force during that group’s most critically acclaimed and successful period, 1969-1976. His outlandish costumes, improvised sax and flute playing, and general wild man persona became iconic representations of the band, and we would go on to pen some of their most popular songs including “Brainstorm” and “Master of the Universe.” After leaving Hawkwind, Turner used his newfound freedom to travel to Egypt, where he soaked up the history and culture, and also made a recording of his flute music in the King’s Chamber of the Great Pyramid of Cheops. In 1985, Turner relocated to the western side of Wales, where he set up a new age community in a fairly rural, isolated area. He has continued to release new music including 2013’s Space Gypsy and 2015’s Space Fusion Odyssey. A brand new track from his forthcoming studio album premieres on a special 6CD box set called Space Rock: An Interstellar Traveler’s Guide. This incredible collection features a diverse sampling of space rock artists young and old including Hawkwind, Amon Düül II, Ozric Tentacles, Gong, Can, Earthling Society, and Hedersleben along with a whole host of others!
