THE STOOGES’ JAMES WILLIAMSON & RADIO BIRDMAN’S DENIZ TEK Release Second Single “Jet Pack Nightmare” From Their Forthcoming Album!

Los Angeles, CA - If the first single, “Stable,” from James Williamson & Deniz Tek’s brand new studio album, Two To One, left you wanting more - well, you aren’t alone. Fans and critics alike have been thrilled by this duo of proto-punk guitar heroes and clamoring for more music, which makes the arrival of the pair’s second single, “Jet Pack Nightmare,” as timely as ever. As the explosive lead-off track from the album, “Jet Pack Nightmare” features arguably the album’s sharpest and catchiest guitar riff, kicking off the hard charging, turbo-fueled vibe of the album with both power and panache.

Williamson shares these thoughts on the new single, “Even though the lyrics lend themselves to a multitude of interpretations, the riff and music on ‘Jet Pack Nightmare’ were clear from the day I wrote them...this is one of my favorites out of many on the album.”

Tek agrees, saying “I think of an album sequence like a live setlist. You want a knockout punch up front, hit 'em hard right out of the gate. ‘Jet Pack Nightmare’ does that, in spades.”

Rock Review: James Williamson and Deniz Tek-Two to One

Release Date: September 18, 2020

Label: 2020 Cleopatra Records

Website

James Williamson and Deniz Tek find themselves in a fully-loaded, revved up new music venture, Two to One. The Stooges’ guitarist James Williamson and Radio Birdman’s Deniz Tek team up once again from 2017 and Tek’s 2011 special guest appearance from Iggy Pop and The Stooges’, to unveil a new progressive-rock, garage-punk blend album that is sure-fire to get you rocking out in your garage like the olden days, or on the next neighborhood block party. Coming September 18, Williamson and Tek team up to bring you an album that takes the seriousness out of your everyday life, even if it is just for a moment.

The album explodes onto the scene with “Jet Pack Nightmare.” With its ZZ Top sound-a-like guitar riffs, the song is a great starter. If you listen close enough, it sounds like a timed race of revenge on someone before the person seeking the retribution wakes up. “Progress” sings of being forever in the moment. Where we are recognizing our faults of personal history, we also acknowledge that “tomorrow never comes,” meaning, time is just a construct to some and we will rectify our issues when we feel it necessary or imperative.

“Take a Look Around” is a slower touch of ‘90s ska/alternative music, with a representation of calling out modern-day civilization. It says to observe what is right in front of us, admiring the completely wrong ideals and lifestyles, rather than maybe focusing on our self-improvement and growth. “Good as Gone,” writes itself in its lyrics. A man who has reached his point in tolerating the other party in question. He sings as though this person has pushed him to where nothing can justify him trying to mend the relationship.

“Stable,” is the lead single off of Two to One. The lead singer claims to be in a sort of freefall where nothing anyone does can save him. From when others around him first met him, his character or personality is slowly cracking with imperfections. He feels as though no matter what someone tries to do to help him, it will be nothing but failed attempts. “Climate Change” is a bit of a random tune. While it certainly does call attention to the modern-day debate of ‘climate change’ it seems to be a play-on mockery of the topic. Some of the hypocrisy, and an old vs. young them, provides comedic relief that is subtle but funny.

“Birthday Present” starts with a smooth guitar lick, and the title lends the listener to think it will be something positive and uplifting until the singer begins singing. The song is based in a darker-than-expected tone and a very scattered concept of a celebration, more like the ending of one messy party. “Small Change” begins as a bit of an Americana-rock styled song. For a sudden shift, “Small Change” hints at glimmers of positivity and subtlety peaks at how emotion can increase the effects of the changes in life. A “big heart,” to this singer is key to morphing your life to the way you desire it to be.

“Liar” calls out the singer’s significant other straight to her face. He proclaims what a lot of us feel when we’ve hit the end of the road with someone. “Except the diamond in your ear, nothing last forever” is possibly the boldest claim to how far tolerance can take a person. This woman cannot see right in front of her the actions that led up to the separation about to occur. “No Dreams” is a spiral. The singer is lost within himself, trying to find something to connect to on a physical level of which, unfortunately, failure strikes him at every turn. The song is a fantastic way to represent how our psyche can easily be manipulated and played with. Ending out the album, “Melissa Blue” is of a seductive lady who has an aura of mystery about her, only to end in heartbreak. The song tells of a whole tale of meeting up, a small dose of adventure, and inevitable heartbreak as the two, part ways.

Key tracks include: “Good as Gone,” “Stable,” and “Melissa Blue.”

THE STOOGES’ JAMES WILLIAMSON Teams Up With RADIO BIRDMAN’S DENIZ TEK For A Razor-Sharp New Album!

Los Angeles, CA - Legendary proto-punk guitar heroes, James Williamson & Deniz Tek, have joined forces for a brand new, odds-defying studio album, Two To One, set to be released September 18 by Cleopatra Records. An inductee into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, Williamson was the guitarist and co-songwriter for one of the most iconic and influential albums of all-time, Iggy & The Stooges Raw Power, while Tek launched and occupied the same role for what became Australia’s ground zero for the punk movement with his band, the revered Radio Birdman. The album features 11 all-new original compositions highlighted by the first single “Stable” and the explosive lead-off track “Jet Pack Nightmare.”

Watch the video for “Stable”:

Williamson had this to say about the project; “It was really a lot of fun working with Deniz to make a no-frills, good old-fashioned guitar album. Took me back to Raw Power and Kill City days. Deniz comes from a very similar approach to music that I do, both of us have had many years of experience in Detroit and Ann Arbor, Michigan.”

Tek adds: “Raw Power shaped my path as a young guitar player. It was great to partner up with James to make this album. Everything fell into place beyond expectations - the songs, the band, the production, and even the timing. I am very happy with it."

Two To One will be available on CD, digital and in your choice of red, blue, yellow or classic black vinyl!

RUNAWAYS Vocalist CHERIE CURRIE and STOOGES Guitarist JAMES WILLIAMSON Team Up For A New Version Of The Shangri-Las’ Teen Heartbreak Classic "Leader Of The Pack!"

Los Angeles, CA - With the roar of a motorcycle, ’60 pop chanteuses The Shangri-Las introduced the world to a new tragic hero, the unforgettable bad boy heartthrob and the titular “Leader Of The Pack.” The year was 1964 and by that time “teenage tragedy songs” had become a genre unto itself with the likes of Jan & Dean’s “Dead Man’s Curve,” Ray Peterson’s “Tell Laura I Love Her” and many others. But none captured the melodrama of heartbreak as well as “Leader Of The Pack,” which would become a #1 pop hit and the defining song for The Shangri-Las. Now, two veterans of garage rock, trailblazing heartthrobs in their own right, have teamed up for a glorious new version of the tune. Famed Stooges guitarist James Williamson pours gasoline on the song’s instrumental track and lights it on fire with his raw, heavy guitar playing, while Runaways vocalist Cherie Currie, aided with backup vocals by Leslie Koch Foumberg, amps up the theatricality for maximum emotional impact.

Williamson sings the praises of this new version saying “When I first discussed playing on a remake of ‘Leader of the Pack’ I was skeptical that we could improve on it. That song is so ingrained in my psyche that I couldn’t imagine anyone other than Mary Weiss singing the vocal. But, when I heard Cherie Currie’s version combined with my guitar, I instantly knew we had done an update we could be proud of. I just love the way it came out.”

This supercharged version of “Leader Of The Pack” is currently available on all streaming and download platforms as well as on a special 7” vinyl single backed with a tune that will be imminently familiar to fans of Cherie Currie, “Cherry Bomb” - a previously released recording featuring music by The MC5’s Wayne Kramer and The Ramone’s Marky Ramone.
