Cleopatra Records Set To Release Debut Album From Australian/Iranian Industrial Duo VOWWS!

Los Angeles, CA - With a 20+ year reputation for uncovering the best in dark underground music from all over the world, L.A.-based independent label Cleopatra Records is proud to announce the hugely anticipated debut album by one of their new premier roster artists, industrial-pop duo VOWWS. A cross-continental and cross-cultural pairing, guitarist/vocalist Matt (touring musician for indie darling Soko) and keyboardist/vocalist Rizz (Iranian, Costa Rican born) met in Sydney Australia before moving to NYC in 2011 where their debut album The Great Sun began to take shape. Produced by Kevin McMahon, whose work with Swans and The Walkmen has earned much deserved praise, The Great Sun elevates the icy cold synth and guitar noise distortion of classic industrial music to new artistic heights. With tracks like “Stranger,” “Councillor,” and “Holy Youth,” VOWWS marry catchy pop melodies with dark, expressive lyrics, distorted vocals, and heavy atmospheres to create a unique sound. The band even gained the attention of industrial music godfather Gary Numan, who sings a stunning duet on the album track “Losing Myself In You.” The band’s videos, all self-shot and self-edited, have been buzzed about on Consequence Of Sound, Culture Collide, Interview Magazine, Brooklyn Vegan, Buzzbands L.A. and many others. VOWWS’ impressive live shows have earned them spots on this year’s New Noise Festival alongside Ariel Pink, Run The Jewels, Black Lips, and Prayers as well as performances with Tamaryn, William Control, Jennie Vee, L.A. Witch, and Lawrence Rothman. The Great Sun will be released October 30 on both CD and vinyl, and will coincide with a first-ever “VOWWS Takeover Day,” which will give the band full control of Cleopatra’s social properties for a full 24 hours!

"Songs For The Dead", The Brand New Album From Norwegian Industrial / Alternative-Rock Band Magenta, To Be Released October 16th On Cleopatra Records!

Los Angeles, CA - Norwegian Industrial /Alternative-Rock band, Magenta will unleash their long awaited new album “Songs For The Dead”, a true masterpiece of dark & savage beauty. Leading off the campaign for the album will be an official audio-video for the album’s first single “Ghost”, produced by Al Jorgenson of Ministry and featuring synths by Stephan Groth of Apoptygma Berzerk.

Magenta “Ghost" (Official Audio/Video)

Magenta was formed by Vilde Lockert Odden and Anders Odden in 1995. They have always taken inspiration from the wide range of music they like and describe their work as a soundtrack to a movie you have to create in your head.

Anders Odden is well known in the international metal scene as guitarist for Norwegian black metal legends, Satyricon. His guitar prowness has also served well for Cadaver, Apoptygma Berzerk and Celtic Frost to name a few. But unlike any of these, Magenta is his main musical outlet as a composer/writer.

"Songs For The Dead" was borne through deep tragedy. The Magenta family had been invited to stay at Ministry leader, Al Jourgensen’s 13th Planet Studios compound during the Xmas of 2012. They arrived the same day that Ministry guitarist Mike Scaccia left after finishing some recording. Then shortly after, on December 22nd, news reached them that Mike passed away. Everyone at Al’s compound was overwhelmed with grief. To try to get somewhat back to normal in the midst of this, they all decided to record something. The Magentas daugther, Regine, had written a song called "Ghost" in the castle of Duke Hank Von Hell (ex-Turbonegro) the Xmas before. They recorded this track with Al's magic touch and the idea for the album dedicated to those who have past on, was born.

The album is like a requiem and is a new birth for Magenta. It is the first album Magenta have done that they feel represent them fully as the kind of musical entity they want. As Anders himself has said; "Magenta is my playground where I can be as diverse and melodic as I want to."

Rock Review: 13 Shadows-Self Titled

Release Date: 2012
Label: Indie

New York is known for many things and one of them is producing some of the most prolific artists in the music industry. From Madonna to Lou Reed, the scope and impact has been immense.

There are hundreds of thousands of performers that never get the recognition or notoriety they deserve. It is the highly competitive and difficult “online” world we live in now that create the odds that weigh so heavily against you. There is a young lady named Denise Donahue, if given the chance, will be like a shooting star. She is 13 Shadows and her self-titled album is a superb introduction to her all-encompassing talents. Her Facebook page says “Music For Vampires” but I beg to differ. If you like rock or industrial rock, metal or bands like Evanescence you will devour this like a blood thirsty creature of the night and if you happen to be an average music fan that likes to rock, you will appreciate it as well. One look at the CD cover gives away the gothic underbelly of what you are about to hear.

This siren can project her powerful vocals over the layers of instruments in an impressive way on 13 Shadows. Denise is a singer/songwriter, pianist, guitarist, producer, not to mention a feline magnet (as described in her introductory one sheet). She has what it takes to make it to the top because she delivers at every turn on this project.

One of the hardest rocking tracks is “Belong” followed by another powerful packed emotionally charged “Erase U.” What I enjoyed most about this music is the complexity and the intensity and the emotion is equally matched by the words. Everything works together like a well-oiled musical machine. I found “Kamera” (check out the video provided) to be the perfect snapshot (no pun intended) of what this talented lady can do with one track. The words and visuals that are shaped either in your mind’s eye by the music alone will take you there. The song is about an obsessed someone taking your soul prisoner through pictures and the warning from the subject of that attention that it simply won’t work. It can be scary and weird, like in a stalking sense; in any event, the music fits the words. Donahue creates eerie and atmospheric sounds and her voice is the added component that pushes everything over the edge.

The album closer “Broken” closes the curtain on one poignant and mesmerizing performance. In fact, I did not hear one dud on this CD. Consistency rules in the music business and Ms. Donahue presents a group of songs that are all linked together lyrically and musically. It is a story of immense emotion propelled by hard driving and sometimes beautiful passages of music.

13 Shadows is a glimpse at talent to be reckoned with in Denise Donahue. Her all around strengths in the areas that matter the most will lead to success, I have no doubt about that. If you enjoy good vocals, sweeping and powerful music accompanied by thought provoking lyrics, then this is worth a listen.
