The Next Generation Of Psych Bands Bring A New Mind Expanding Perspective To 12 Classic Beatles Songs!

Los Angeles, CA - Their popularity among music fans is undeniable, their status with music critics is unimpeachable, and their influence across a multitude of genres - from pop to rock, world music to country - is thoroughly indisputable. Yet The Beatles’ ubiquity makes us forget that there once was a time when this UK band was truly dangerous, a radical cultural force pushing its way into the mainstream to the shock and horror of many. Now, a new generation of psych rock bands seek to bring back that sense of danger to the Beatles' music, taking twelve classic compositions by the Fab Four and filtering them through modern sensibilities to bring a whole new perspective to these celebrated works. The resulting project, The Magical Mystery Psych Out - A Tribute To The Beatles, will be released on both CD and vinyl by Cleopatra Records on March 3.

German acid rockers Electric Moon kick things off with the song that many consider the defining birth of psychedelic rock music, “Tomorrow Never Knows” from Revolver, here given a new depth and sense of urgency with walls of distorted guitars and haunting female vocals. Sugar Candy Mountain chose a rarer tune from the same era, the B-side single “Rain,” and came up with a version more sinister yet stealthily hypnotic. The band echoed the thoughts of many artists on the album when they declared that recording a Beatles song is simultaneously “fun and intimidating.” Matt Adams, here performing “The Word” as The Blank Tapes, elaborates on this idea saying “The Beatles recordings have always been untouchable to me, but I jumped at the chance to do my own take on one of their songs. I tried staying true to the original but changed some of the sounds and stretched out the ending.” Fellow UK acts such as The KVB and The Underground Youth also turn in inspired versions that would make their countrymen proud, and together with US rising stars The Vacant Lots and Strangers Family Band, recreate for modern listeners the thrill that ‘60s audiences must have felt like hearing such strange, enticing, and far-out sounds for the first time. With an appropriately mind-blowing painting by San Francisco-based artist/illustrator Matt Leunig, The Magical Mystery Psych Out is coming to take you away!

Stoned - A Psych Tribute To The Rolling Stones - 14 Shining Stars Of The Neo-Psych Scene Reinterpret Classics From The Rolling Stones!

Includes performances by Clinic, The Vacant Lots, Celestial Bums, Allah-Las, Pure X, The Tulips, Tashaki Miyaki, and more!

Los Angeles, CA - EVERYBODY MUST GET STONED!…Dylan declared in ‘66 just a year or so after The Rolling Stones got their initial hit of major commercial success with arguably the most addictive song of all-time “(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction.” It was their first international #1 single, and a high they would chase (and catch!) for the next 4 decades as they would go on to create one of the most mind-blowingly potent canons in modern music. But if you think you've plumbed the depths of the Jagger/Richards pharmacy, just wait until you hear what the newest psych rock junkies do to these well-known tonics. From The Vacant Lots’ stimulating take on “She Smiled Sweetly” to Clinic’s hallucinogenic version of “I Know It's Only Rock & Roll (But I Like It),” these young bands take Stones classics to places they’ve never been before. The full album entitled Stoned - A Psych Tribute To The Rolling Stones featuring 14 tracks will be available everywhere starting January 20 from Cleopatra Records.

The Allah-Las, like many of the bands featured here, dug deep into the Stones vast catalog for their cover of the 1963 gem “Stoned.” Meanwhile, Barcelona quartet Celestial Bums declared, “We are very honored that we got the chance to do that since for us The Rolling Stones is probably the best rock band in history. We chose ‘Child Of The Moon’ for being quite an unknown song that at same time has an amazing essence of their psych period.” L.A.-based trio Tashaki Miyaki shares, “Covering a song by such a legendary band was a bit daunting. We delved a little deeper into the Stones catalog to find something less heard that would compliment our band's sound. ‘Take It or Leave It’ seemed like the right vibe.” Of course, more well-known songs such as “Sympathy For The Devil,” “Gimme Shelter,” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” also got the psych remake treatment with astounding results. Available on both CD and vinyl, Stoned - A Psych Tribute To The Rolling Stones has the cure for the musical boredom that ails you!

1. Lorelle Meets The Obsolete - What A Shame
2. The KVB - Sympathy For The Devil
3. Shiny Darkly - Under My Thumb
4. Yeti Lane - Sway
5. Clinic - It’s Only Rock & Roll (But I Like It)
6. Sons Of Hippies - Gimme Shelter
7. The Vacant Lots - She Smiled Sweetly
8. Celestial Bums - Child Of The Moon
9. Tashaki Miyaki - Take It Or Leave It
10. Allah-Las - Stoned
11. Pink Velvet - (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction [CD ONLY]
12. Pure X - Beast Of Burden [CD ONLY]
13. Cheval Sombre - As Tears Go By

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's Robert Levon Been Pays Tribute To Late Father's Legendary Band The Call!

Los Angeles, CA – Much to the excitement of music fans worldwide, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's Robert Levon Been pays tribute to his late father, Michael Been, with an unforgettable live performance fronting his father's legendary band The Call in the upcoming live DVD / CD 'The Call Live Tribute With Robert Levon Been' (available September 2nd, 2014 via Label Records/Lightyear/Caroline).

"It's difficult to sum up what this show meant to me, but it was also just such a natural primal reaction to wanting to share the music and the joy we felt playing these songs together with more than just the 4 of us. The very first time i played with Scott, Dickie, and Jim in rehearsal together there was such an overwhelming love for the songs and the spirit that it couldn't just end there. We had to take it as far as we could go, to create an echo that would carry us all.' - Robert Levon Been

“What a joy it has been to reconnect with the band and the fans. I don't know how Robert pulled this off, but there were times during the show that I was not sure what year it was” – Jim Goodwin

Check out the premiere of the video for “I Still Believe”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzlNMBFEakg

While The Call (Michael Been, Tom Ferrier, Jim Goodwin and Scott Musick) got their official start in Santa Cruz, CA in 1979, its roots as a band go back to Michael Been's childhood in Oklahoma City, where seeing Elvis Presley perform on television changed the course of his life. That early interest in musical performance inspired his career, from the very beginning performing at the age of seven on local radio and television programs, to his eventual move to Chicago at the age of 16, where he was drawn into the blues scene by Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Junior Parker. Been eventually made his way to California, where he connected with drummer Scott Musick, as well as Tom Ferrier (guitar, vocals) and Jim Goodwin (keyboards, vocals) to form The Call.

Despite having their initial demos rejected by all the major labels, the band found themselves in demand by nearly every major producer in America. The Call's debut album was ultimately produced by Hugh Padgham (David Bowie, The Police) and the band were suddenly opening acts for major artists including Peter Gabriel and Simple Minds.

The Call were signed to Mercury, Elektra and MCA, and released seven critically acclaimed albums over the next eight years, featuring several iconic hit songs including “Let The Day Begin” and “I Still Believe (Great Design).” In 1997, after a seven year break, the band reformed to release the album Heaven & Back, before disbanding once more. Michael Been began serving as sound engineer for his son Robert Levon Been's band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, but passed away from a heart attack while working backstage at the 2010 Pukkelpop festival in Belgium.

Now after twenty years, The Call reunited at legendary Los Angeles venue The Troubador and gave an incredible live performance with Robert Levon Been stepping into his father's role and joining Musick, Ferrier and Goodwin for the one-of-a-kind event. For Robert - who grew up going out on the road with The Call anytime he had a break from school - the performance offered the chance to honor his musical legacy and perform nearly a dozen and a half songs from the band’s esteemed catalog. And for original members Musick, Ferrier and Goodwin, the show allowed them the opportunity to honor their friend and their own musical legacy while revisiting a bond they thought was gone forever.

“The Call was always about a deep spiritual connection and an examination of life from an intense personal perspective. Now, we have the son doing a tribute to his father that has taken it to a new level...a truly joyous noise after a 25 year silence.” - Jim Goodwin

'The Call Live Tribute With Robert Levon Been' will be available as a DVD+CD Deluxe Set on September 2nd 2014 and will also be available on CD, 180 gram double vinyl, and digitally (with 5 extra bonus tracks).

Blues Music Award Winners Trampled Under Foot & Mike Zito Lead An Array Of Stellar Blues Artists On A Salute To Creedence Clearwater Revival!

Also features Blitzen Trapper, Duke Robillard, Sonny Landreth, The Mynabirds, and more!

Los Angeles, CA - Proving once again that good songs know no bounds or genre, a host of superstar blues artists bring their immense skills and talents to bear on the classic rock canon of John Fogerty and his legendary Creedence Clearwater Revival. The result is a fascinating new perspective on the widely celebrated and deeply influential music of the great CCR! The project will see a release on CD this July 22 on Cleopatra Records.

Founded in California’s San Francisco Bay Area in the late ‘60s, Creedence Clearwater Revival had their first taste of major success in 1969 with “Proud Mary,” a rollicking slice of swampy roots rock that rolled on the river to the No. 2 spot on the Billboard charts, and quickly became the group’s most covered song including an unforgettable 1971 version by Ike & Tina Turner. Hit after hit followed: “Bad Moon Rising,” “Green River,” “Down On The Corner,” “Fortunate Son,” and an absolutely astonishing string of 6 platinum-selling albums. Fogerty & Co. had not only achieved immense commercial success but they also came to be appreciated by music critics everywhere as one of the quintessential American rock bands, and fittingly were inducted into the Rock Hall Of Fame in 1993.

Since the group’s breakup in 1972, numerous bands and artists have offered their own spins on CCR’s greatest songs, but none as unique as the versions heard here. Kicking things off is slide guitar legend Sonny Landreth’s brilliant transformation of “Fortunate Son’s” punchy, iconic riff into a shifty, multi-note melody as vocalist Mike Zito (of Royal Southern Brotherhood) sings along. Portland’s own Blitzen Trapper, a critical favorite of the blues-folk revivalist set, turns in a dirty stomping, harmonica and organ infused take on the classic “Proud Mary,” while another indie favorite The Mynabirds offer an appropriately spooky “Bad Moon Rising.” One of the biggest names in modern blues, the great Duke Robillard, shines on a heartbreaking rendition of “Who’ll Stop The Rain,” and what better way to close the album than with the 2014 Blues Music Awards winners for Contemporary Blues Album Of The Year, Trampled Under Foot, who stir up a potent gumbo of gritty vocals and shimmering guitar on “Born On The Bayou.” These treats and many more await fans of CCR, blues music, and lovers of timeless Americana rock!

1. Fortunate Son - Mike Zito & Sonny Landreth
2. Bad Moon Rising - The Mynabirds
3. Proud Mary - Blitzen Trapper
4. Down On The Corner - Spirit Family Reunion
5. Have You Ever Seen The Rain - Dead Man Winter
6. Looking Out My Back Door - LeRoux
7. Who’ll Stop The Rain - Duke Robillard
8. Up Around The Bend - South Memphis String Band
9. Susie Q - Will Wilde
10. Run Through The Jungle - Smokin’ Joe Kubek & Bnois King
11. Green River - Kirk Fletcher
12. Born On The Bayou - Trampled Under Foot

New Tribute To Pink Floyd Founder Syd Barrett By Garden Music Project To Be Released July 7, 2014

'Inspired By Syd Barrett's Artwork' – The New Debut Album By Garden Music Project

London, UK - Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd fans rejoice! On July 7, 2014 AR Garden Records, via Cherry Red will release the debut album by the Garden Music Project, which features music inspired by the paintings by PINK FLOYD founder SYD BARRETT. 'Inspired By Syd Barrett's Artwork' is a unique masterpiece of 12 tracks that truly reflect the early artistic concept of Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett and his music legacy in modern times. The release will coincide with the eighth anniversary of Syd Barrett’s passing in 2006.

The music on this release can be best described as an epic interpretation of Syd Barrett’s paintings using Synesthesia perceptions. This music venture was created by Adriana Rubio. All the music was written by Adriana Rubio and Alexander Ditzend. The band features Alexander Ditzend (guitars & lead singing), Stefan Ditzend (bass guitar & saxophone), Nicolás Saganías (drums & percussion), and Fabrizio Gamba (keyboards & synthesizers).

Says Adriana, “I was born a Synesthete and for a long time I liked the idea of making a CD album using Synesthesia perceptions as a new way to compose music. Syd Barrett's paintings are the key to this as he's been the inspirational muse to make it happen.

“Syd was very sensitive of Synesthesia color-sound shifts onstage and in studio sessions, and it is mainly linked to his passion for painting. For the most part he was a visual artist, and I dare to say that even though he was retired from the music scene, he continued making music through painting as he had the ability to 'hear colors' and 'see music notes' through painting.

“As the project creator myself, I started digging into Syd's colored paintings and even into black and white drawings to visualize the music notes and hear them through the intensity of their colors. To start with, I wrote the basic music lines of three songs which were discussed with the band members Alexander Ditzend (guitars & lead singing), Stefan Ditzend (bass & saxophone), Nicolás Saganías (drums & percussion) and Fabrizio Gamba (keyboards & synthesizers) to taste the waters. It worked out great!”

The full length album was recorded, mixed and mastered at Casa Frida Studios in March 2014 - a Tribute to Syd Barrett's paintings and music legacy!

1. GARDEN
2. SQUARES, LINES & POLYGONS

Superstars Of Classic Rock Honor The Music & Legacy Of The Doors Feat. Members of Deep Purple, Foreigner, Yes, Rainbow, Mountain, Moody Blues, ELP and Others!

Featuring Todd Rundgren, Ian Gillan, Edgar Winter, Steve Morse, David Johansen, Larry Coryell, Mark Farner, Patrick Moraz, Mick Box, Keith Emerson, Lou Gramm, Leslie West, Thijs Van Leer, Steve Cropper, Rick Wakeman, Roye Albrighton, Nik Turner, Steve Hillage, Zoot Horn Rollo and Others!

Los Angeles, CA - A star-studded syndicate of rock virtuosos have gathered together to pay tribute to one of the best loved and most influential bands of all-time, The Doors, on a new CD release titled Light My Fire - A Classic Rock Salute To The Doors to be released by Purple Pyramid Records on June 24th! Produced by the extraordinarily talented Billy Sherwood, the album features brand new interpretations of classic Doors cuts that defined an entire generation, songs such as “Light My Fire,” “Riders On The Storm,” “Break On Through (To The Other Side),” “Love Her Madly,” “L.A. Woman,” “People Are Strange,” and lots more!

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear some of The Doors’ peers and prodigies tackle these seminal songs. Not one but TWO members of the quintessential prog rock band Yes, keyboard wizard Rick Wakeman and lead guitarist Steve Howe, joined Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan on the signature song, “Light My Fire,” which as Wakeman explains, “has always been one of those iconic tracks that keyboard players listen to because of the fact that there are so few tracks with keyboard/organ solos on them compared to our six-stringed buddies. It’s also a solo area that is totally open to interpretation so whatever you do is not comparable to the original, so it was an absolute joy to do.” Howe likewise enthuses, “I was delighted to play on this album as The Doors were a band I heard a lot as everywhere I went in the late ‘60s their music was playing, at friend’s, in restaurants, gigs & bars throughout London. I’m sure I saw them play at Middle Earth, a then hip club. Then, when the reissue more recently came out, I got totally back into their music, especially ‘Light My Fire.’”

Another keyboard legend, Geoff Downes, likewise extolled the genius of Doors’ organist Ray Manzarek saying, “It was a real privilege to be asked to participate in this project. Ray Manzarek was one of the pioneers of keyboard playing in rock music, and had a major influence on me and many others. His style was totally unique, and an integral element into what made The Doors sound the way they did.”

Meanwhile, renegade guitarist Steve Morse, of Dixie Dregs fame, recollects that The Doors were “a soundtrack, literally, for some of the most memorable times, good and bad, that I experienced as a young teen. Like many of my favorites, they were adventurous, improvising, unafraid of what the media might say, and all with a sort of lyrical freedom that still stands up today.” The Cars’ lead axeman Elliot Easton proclaims, “I had a wonderful time reinterpreting ‘Spanish Caravan,’” a song Easton found both “challenging and very rewarding!” And jazz fusion Larry Coryell concludes, “The Doors were the unofficial representatives to the world for LA, not ‘Los Angeles,’ but ‘LA.’ Their sound - raunchy, cluttered, sassy, leering, kind of mean, and always horny was the sound of LA/Los Angeles itself. How many times circa ‘65-66 did my first wife Julie and I drive through LA on the freeway listening to, say, ‘Love Me Two Times,’ and think that The Doors were the sound of LA just as clearly as Thelonious Monk was the sound of NYC.”

That sound continues to reverberate outward through both space and time, touching each new generation around the globe and keeping The Doors’ flame burning brighter than ever! Producer Billy Sherwood sums it up when he declares, “The Doors’ music will live on forever, and it’s my hope that we’ve paid tribute to the band in the highest way possible.”

Leon Russell, Steve Morse & Pat Travers Lead A Stellar Cast Of Music Superstars On This Tribute To The Legendary Allman Brothers Band!

Also features Commander Cody, Molly Hatchet, The Oak Ridge Boys, Artimus Pyle Band, Reese Wynans (Double Trouble), Tinsley Ellis, Robben Ford & more!

Los Angeles, CA - One of music’s biggest and most influential juggernauts gets the respect and admiration they so richly deserve on this brand new tribute album available May 27th from Cleopatra Records! Featuring an eclectic group of rock, country, and blues legends, Midnight Rider - A Tribute To The Allman Brothers Band offers energetic new covers of the classic hits “Midnight Rider,” “Ramblin’ Man,” and “Whipping Post” as well as one of the most famous instrumental songs in all of rock music “Jessica,” alongside many more Southern fried favorites!

“The Allman Brothers were a central part of my roots,” proclaims guitarist Steve Morse, who shreds his way through a smoldering version of “Whipping Post” on the album. “Living in Georgia much of my life, they were the local legends that everybody loved. They had the swing, the inventive double guitar parts, the ability to jam just long enough to keep the audience, and that golden voice of Greg’s! When my instrumental rock band, the Dixie Dregs, played, we often played ‘Jessica,’ which automatically makes any audience start moving and smiling. I’ve been lucky enough to sit in with many of the members at various times, and we have shared a lot of common ground. I’m still a fan!”

Duane Allen, lead vocalist for country legends The Oak Ridge Boys, declares, “‘Ramblin’ Man’ is the national anthem of Southern Rock & Roll, so it is a huge honor to be asked to be a part of this tribute.” Allen’s sentiments are echoed by several other participants including blues guitarist Eric Gales who considered it a “great honor” and Tinsley Ellis who also speaks enthusiastically of the group as “one of a handful of musical acts, along with Ray Charles and Willie Nelson, that are considered to be a genre unto themselves. It is a great honor to be among the other stellar acts paying tribute to such a legendary and influential American band.”

Speaking for a next generation of blues rock artists, Eli Cook offers both high praise and a word of advice: “The Allman Brothers’ story of talent, hard work, and blind devotion to creating an honest and unique sound is one that every artist should study and imitate. Just as they cut their teeth on Taj Mahal, Cream, Elmore James, and all the great early R&B artists, today’s players are wise to woodshed with the Eat A Peach and Live At The Fillmore albums.” Or just pick up a copy of Midnight Rider - A Tribute To The Allman Brothers Band and let these boys show you how it’s done!

1. Midnight Rider - Pat Travers
2. Ramblin’ Man - Oak Ridge Boys, Tinsley Ellis & Kevin McKendree
3. Melissa - Molly Hatchet

Celebrated Music Duo GLASS HOUSE Releases “Blackbird” Music Video

A musical tribute to Nelson Mandela

Oakland, CA — Glass House is the acclaimed music duo featuring David Worm, best known for his work with Bobby McFerrin and guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Mark Vickness. Glass House has collaborated with violinist Mads Tolling and upright bassist Dan Feiszli to release the “Blackbird” music video.

Watch the video here: http://youtu.be/g1kYZXfvAzE

Blackbird was originally written in response to the struggle for civil rights in the U.S. When Nelson Mandela died, “it seemed so right to pay tribute to him and honor the tremendous impact he made,” says Mark.

The arrangement of “Blackbird” grew out of Mark’s unique approach to stringing and tuning his 8-string acoustic guitar. David then added a vocal line and lush vocal harmonies using his VoiceLive 2 Touch. Once the guitar and vocals were established, they collaborated with Mads and Dan to come up with violin and bass parts that filled out and anchored the texture of the song.

Filmed on location by director Paul Nordin of EMB Studios, in Emeryville, California the video was edited by Sharon Knight. The music was mastered by Reuben Cohen at Lurssen Mastering in Los Angeles.

About Glass House:
Glass House released its third album “Long Way Down” in October 2013. Songs range from the sparsely haunting solo acoustic guitar and voice rendition of Robbie Robertson's “Broken Arrow,” to the funk string quartet intro of “Turn Away,” to the driving, world music-infused choral tapestry of “Build A Bridge.” Lyrics run the gamut from tender personal pathos (“For Now,” “Thank You”) to timely political and social narratives (“Turn Away,” “Where I Belong”). Album producer/bassist Jon Evans is well known for his years recording and touring with Tori Amos and Third Eye Blind. Two-time Grammy winners The Turtle Island String Quartet contribute remarkable talents on two songs. Also appearing are drummers Scott Amendola (Charlie Hunter), L.A. studio ace MB Gordy (Frank Zappa, Green Day, Bill Withers), tabla virtuoso Ty Burhoe, violinist Mads Tolling (Stanley Clarke) and vocalists Ashling Cole (Prince) and Julianna Graffagna (Kitka).

Hundreds of thousands of fans have viewed the widely-acclaimed videos by Glass House. When the live-version video of “Broken Arrow” was first released, it was the seventh most-viewed YouTube video according to billboard.com.

Leaders Of The New Psych Rock Movement Pay Tribute To The Original Riders On The Storm, The Doors!

Featuring The Black Angels, The Raveonettes, Clinic, Psychic Ills, Sons Of Hippies, Elephant Stone, Dead Skeletons and more!

Los Angeles, CA - Doors fans, prepare to have your minds blown all over again! On March 4th, L.A.-based indie label Cleopatra Records will release A Psych Tribute to The Doors, a heartfelt salute to the hometown heroes who put L.A. on the astrological map, legendary psychedelic rock band The Doors! Contributing to this epic tribute are several leaders of psych rock’s next wave of sonic visionaries including Danish indie rockers The Raveonettes, British post-punk revivalists Clinic, and Austin TX psych rock superstars The Black Angels whose fuzzed out version of “Soul Kitchen” is currently available as an “instant gratification” track on the iTunes album pre-order here: http://georiot.co/cnH

Formed at the apex of the 20th century’s most tumultuous decade, The Doors led a musical and cultural revolution, shaking up notions of what rock bands looked like and sounded like. A quartet with electric organ substituting for bass guitar and led by a shaggy-haired hippy/philosopher/poet with model looks, the band released just 6 albums with front(mad)man Jim Morrison, yet those albums contained enough classic songs to inspire and influence a legion of bands. From the sexy tease of “Light My Fire” to the bluesy sleaze of “Love Me Two Times”, not to mention the pioneering experimentations of “Riders On The Storm” and “The End,” the legacy of The Doors endures precisely because their songs transcended time and place, reaching outward and touching artists and musicians generation after generation.

No wonder then that when the call was issued for participants on this tribute album, many – like stoner rock icons Dead Meadow – leapt at the opportunity. “From the very beginning of our band to recording in the hallowed halls of Sunset Sound, where the Doors recorded all of their classic albums, we would listen to the mystical sounds of the Doors for magic. The escapism and dark tunes were a huge influence...It was an honor to be able to reinterpret them...” Montreal’s Elephant Stone likewise enthuses, “When asked to be involved with this tribute I knew I did not want to just play a Doors tune; I wanted to reinvent it...So, we reconstructed ‘L.A. Woman’ as a drone-y psyche tune that maintained the West Coast vibe but with an added dash of Madchester, a sprinkling of Live at Pompeii and swirl of backwards sitar. Mojo rising indeed.”

1. Elephant Stone - L.A. Woman
2. The Black Angels - Soul Kitchen
3. Psychic Ills - Love Me Two Times
4. Dark Horses - Hello, I Love You
5. Camera - People Are Strange
6. Dead Meadow - The Crystal Ship
7. Sons Of Hippies - The Soft Parade
8. Dead Skeletons - Riders On The Storm
9. Wall Of Death - Light My Fire
10. Clinic - Touch Me
11. VietNam - Roadhouse Blues
12. Geri X - Love Her Madly
13. The Raveonettes - The End
