Krautrock Legends Mani Neumeier & Zeus B. Held Release New Album “The Secret Lives”

New Album By Krautrock Legends Mani Neumeier of Guru Guru and Zeus B. Held of Birth Control

This is how a spontaneous project came about - long overdue! A colorful bouquet of ideas, rhythms, sounds, images and stories ... They met in 1973 at a Krautrock Festival in Frankfurt - Mani played and was Guru Guru, Zeus was the newcomer to Birth Control on the keyboards. Since then they have met again and again, jammed and played gigs together. Then finally - in the summer of 2019 they went two days to Bernie Michael Land’s Synxxs Studio in Rodgau - a wall of modular synth and wonderful gongs and percussion - this is how the basics of the tracks with Mani’s percussive playing on the “Haken Continuum” and various electronic drum pads came about. Zeus built the chord structures and sequences for this. Then it went to Zeus’ KG Beat Studio in Freiburg, where Mani recorded an acoustic drum kit as an overdub. There were also some outbreaks of poetics - so for some pieces texts were created about the common sound images. Afterwards they started again in Mani’s Odenwald Secret Retreat.

“Discreetly, almost secretly we’ve been putting together a first album – after we’ve known each other as musicians since a long time …”

Krautrock Legends GURU GURU Release "Live in China" New CD & DVD

These are thrilling years in the GURU GURU camp. In 2018, they celebrated their 50th anniversary on stage since they were founded in 1968, the year of the student's revolt. In 2020, Mani will celebrate his 80th birthday (born on New Years Eve 1940) by embarking on another extensive tour with more than 50 shows.

In between those two special events, Guru Guru played in China for the first time! In 2019, they were invited to a festival in the far east but nobody had a clue what was in store for them. Guru Guru has played all continents in their long career (except maybe the antarctic) but how would the audience in China receive them? It turned out to be a fantastic, sold-out show with more than 1000 fans celebrating the band enthusiastically which you can see and hear on recently released Live CD + DVD. Some even traveled 18 hours by train from Beijing to see the band!

Even though most of the songs were already released in various other albums, this show features a “historic” document and captures the very special atmosphere of a one-time opportunity for both band and fans. It was recorded live in Shenzhen at the Tomorrow Festival on May 19, 2019 and even though the sound-quality is not up to contemporary standards, Guru Guru decided against extensive overdubbing to preserve the unique atmosphere showcasing the reverence Guru Guru enjoys in the worldwide underground-scene!

Musicians:
Mani Neumeier - Drums / Percussion / Kaossilator / Vocals …
Roland Schaeffer - Guitar / Saxophon / Nadaswaran / Vocals …
Peter Kühmstedt - Bass / Vocals …

JOEL VANDROOGENBROECK, Belgian Experimental Music Pioneer & Founder Of Legendary Krautrock Band BRAINTICKET, Passes Away At The Age Of 81

Los Angeles, CA - Joel Vandroogenbroeck was a musical pioneer in every sense of the phrase. His classical and jazz training combined with his passion for computers and electronic synthesizers united the digital and analog worlds, creating some of the most forward-thinking music of the 1970s. Born in Brussels, Vandroogenbroeck earned numerous accolades as a young pianist and was touring Europe by the time he was a teenager. But as the musical and cultural explosion brought on by the ‘60s spread throughout the world, Vandroogenbroeck found himself drifting further outside of the mainstream to a place of exploration and experimentation in psychedelic music inspired by bands such as Tangerine Dream and Amon Duul II. He formed his own band, Brainticket, and released the highly regarded debut album Cottonwoodhill in 1971. Psychonaut followed the next year and the epic Celestial Ocean capped things off in 1973. These early albums along with the later period Brainticket recordings constitute some of the finest electronic psych music ever laid down.

Vandroogenbroeck teamed with Los Angeles-based indie label Cleopatra Records to reissue his catalog of albums along with unreleased and rare live recordings for Cleopatra’s Purple Pyramid imprint. He also revived Brainticket in 2015 with what will be their final album Past, Present & Future helped by the likes of UK Subs guitarist Nicky Garratt and German industrial artist Jürgen Engler of Die Krupps.

“I am honored & lucky  to have known him. He was such a gifted & talented person, he will be truly missed by everyone at Cleopatra & all who loved his music” - Brian Perera, Cleopatra Records

The Cleopatra Records family will greatly miss Joel Vandroogenbroeck and would like to extend its deepest condolences to his friends and loved ones.

Krautrock Legends faUSt to Tour North America Summer 2018!

Vagabondages in North America tour featuring founding members Jean-Hervé Péron & Werner 'Zappi' Diermaier

German Krautrock legends faUSt will be embarking on their Vagabondages in North America tour in July 2018! faUSt is an experimental rock band which came out of the Hamburg music scene in the late sixties. Formed in Wümme in 1971, faUSt were the first band to have the term “krautrock” applied to their music, and to the genre that ensued. German for “fist,” and also the protagonist of Goethe's eponymous play, faUSt were one of the first bands to use the recording studio as an instrument. Their live appearances were explosive (literally), as the pinball machines and jack-hammer legends detail.

Featuring founding member Jean-Hervé Péron, faUSt's North American tour begins on July 11th in Chicago. There will be line-up changes and guest additions at various points of the tour – founding member and drummer Werner 'Zappi' Diermaier will join the ensemble in Brooklyn on July 22 to the end of the tour. Also featured with the band is guitarist Amaury Cambuzat.

Hello faUSt friends in Canada and USA!

As for 1994! and for the fifth time now, faUSt will ride again the highways of your continent, up and down from Chicago/IL to Montreal/QC, across and back, from Brooklyn, NY to L.A., CA, spreading the good words of DadaKrautRock.

Here all musicians involved in the tour... well, almost all because we do have “last-minute guests”...

In the North East faUSt will be: Jean-Hervé Péron aka art-Errorist (voc, strings, wind and tools), Amaury Cambuzat (guit, voc), Tim Barnes (drums and sounds). In Chicago we will share the stage  with  Bobby Conn (guit, voc), Monica Boubou (voc, violin) and Josh Johannpeter (drums). In Brooklyn we will meet up with Braden Diotte (bass and sounds)... and  Zappi, yeah! That's “ze big man wiz ze big nose!” on drums, voc, tools and metal.

But wait: on the West Coast faUSt will fuse with the German/Spanish/Croatian all female dada-punk trio Ernsthafte Angelegenheiten. Yes, just call them “E.A.” before your tongue get cramped.

Each day, each gig a new adventure, like vagabonds on tour... Rund ist schoen!!! -  Jean-Hervé Péron

Rare Release Feat. Legendary Guru Guru Founding Members Mani Neumeier and Uli Trepte “Guru Guru Groove Band – The Birth of Krautrock 1969” Now Available!

Los Angeles - A newly discovered gem finally sees the light of day courtesy of Guru Guru founding member of Mani Neumeier! Titled “Guru Guru Groove Band – The Birth of Krautrock 1969”, this historically important release was recorded in a small studio in Heidelberg Germany 1969 with Neumeier and future Guru Guru member Uli Trepte, as well as a host of guest musicians, performing a collective free style modal improvisation that would form the foundation of many Krautrock bands to come!

“It was the year 1967, when Mani Neumeier and Uli Trepte left the Free Jazz Trio Irene Schweizer Group. It was the time of a musical revolution, and a sense of change was in the air. When they first heard Jimi Hendrix on the radio, they were so turned on by his tripped out sound that they decided they wanted to create something radical that hadn't been heard or done before. Drawing more musical inspirations from the likes of The Mothers of Invention, Karl Heinz Stockhausen, Indian music, Albert Ayer, and Pink Floyd, Mani Neumeier and Uli Trepte developed the concept of collective free style modal improvisation. Each musician and instrument was supposed to play an equally important role. They had a huge sound, which was dominated by the use of two full Marshall stacks and Mani Neumeier's fluent and inventive drum style. In the first half of 1968, they formed their own sound. The first studio session took place in Heidelberg, Germany. It was a sound expedition recorded on LSD, with several guests on sax, voice and guitar. The band told the engineer that they wanted to play all night. The music was fed through an echo machine to add to the spaced out feel. Now forty years later, Mani Neumeier discovered these very recordings, which can be heard on this album for the very first time! All tracks were recorded two years prior to the first GURU GURU album UFO, which came out in 1970. They were also recorded five years before anyone used the term Krautrock. So here it is, the birth of Krautrock! You better believe it!” – Jurgen Engler

“Guru Guru Groove Band – The Birth of Krautrock 1969” is available on both CD and a special 200 gram white label, hand stamped vinyl pressing!

Krautrockers Hedersleben Featuring UK Subs Member Nicky Garratt To Release Second Album 'Die Neuen Welten'

San Francisco, CA – Hedersleben, the cosmic Krautrock outfit from Oakland, California, featuring UK Subs member Nicky Garratt, are set to release their second album, ‘Die Neuen Welten,’ on August 26th, 2014. Hedersleben originated through the paradoxical paths of playing clubs in the streets of Oakland and The Kosmische Musik Zentrum Projekt in Hedersleben, Germany. In their first year, they have recorded two full-length albums as Hedersleben and gone on to record with the likes of Brainticket and Hawkwind’s Nik Turner. Hedersleben were featured on the new Brainticket album with founding member Joel Vandroogenbroeck (due for release later this year) co-writing a number of pieces, and various members played on Nik Turner’s acclaimed album, ‘Space Gypsy.’ In 2013 Hedersleben went on tour with Nik Turner, both as his backing band and opening act. These sonic explorers of the universe are keeping busy; late August will see them again joining Hawkwind’s Nik Turner on the late Summer/early Fall tour of North America. On the 2014 North American tour, Hedersleben will back Nik Turner as well as promote their new album, ‘Die Neuen Welten,” while introducing new pieces from their next record, ‘The Fall of Chronopolis,’ due to be recorded in 2015.

Says Nicky Garratt, "The past year has been the most musically rewarding for me since 1977. Aside from working with legendary progressive artists, it is a great sense of relief to have a universe of musical possibilities ahead."

Die Neuen Welten ( THE NEW WORLDS ) -  In 2009, Nasa launched the Kepler space telescope. Kepler discovered nearly 1,000 confirmed extrasolar planets in 76 star systems and thousands more that are yet un-confirmed. Die Neuen Welten is an aural expedition into this unveiled realm of new worlds out there in the darkness.
