CLEOPATRA ENTERTAINMENT TO RELEASE JOE LOUIS WALKER 'VIVA LAS VEGAS LIVE' CONCERT FILM WORLDWIDE ON DVD/CD & VOD ON May 10, 2019

Los Angeles, CA - On May 10th, 2019, Cleopatra Entertainment - in association with Cleopatra Blues - will release a brand new concert film Viva Las Vegas Live from Grammy Award-nominated Blues legend Joe Louis Walker. Directed by Brent Backhus, this stunning 85-minute concert was captured in all its glory at the infamous Boulder Station Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada last summer during Walker’s 2018 U.S. tour.

Joe Louis Walker’s career has spanned nearly six decades – and 24 studio albums – since first picking up the guitar at his childhood home in San Francisco at the young age of eight. Joining the local musicians’ union in his early teens enabled young Joe to perform publicly with the likes of John Lee Hooker, Buddy Miles, Thelonious Monk, Willie Dixon, Nick Lowe, John Mayall, Muddy Waters and even Jimi Hendrix. By the late 1980s and into the 1990s, Walker had already collaborated with and performed with multi-Grammy Award winning artists such as B.B. King (on King’s Blues Summit album) and James Cotton (on Cotton’s Deep In The Blues album) as well as enjoying the rare honor to perform at the Presidential Inauguration of President George H. Bush. In 2013, Walker was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame, later being nominated in four categories for a Blues Music Award. In 2015, his album Everybody Wants A Piece was nominated for a Grammy Award in the “Best Contemporary Blues Album” category.

Viva Las Vegas Live will be available on global digital platforms along with the home entertainment version that will be packaged in a gorgeous, four-panel, 2 Disc Digipack containing a DVD and audio CD of the concert. The all-region DVD’s bonus features include an exclusive interview with Walker that was filmed backstage at the venue plus a rare, behind the scenes slideshow of Joe and his band as they prepare to storm through ten, smoking tracks in front of their adoring live audience. A stand-alone, limited-edition colored 12” Vinyl LP version of the concert will be released separately this summer on the Cleopatra Blues Label imprint.

Magma Concert 1971 Brussels DBL CD Remastered

Legendary All-Female British Hard Rock Icons GIRLSCHOOL Release Two Vintage Concert Performances!

Los Angeles, CA - From the vault of one of the most respected and groundbreaking British hard rock outfits to emerge from the NWOBHM scene, the legendary Girlschool, comes two never before released concert recordings now ready to be shared with the world courtesy of Deadline Music. Both shows present powerhouse performances by the original, classic Girlschool line-up featuring guitarist/vocalist Kim McAuliffe, bassist Enid Williams, drummer Denise Dufort, and the inimitable lead vocalist/guitarist, the late Kelly Johnson. First up, London 1980, released on CD, demonstrates the awesome power of this band in a live setting before their hometown audience, as they perform cuts from their recently released and soon to be classic debut studio album Demolition including “Emergency” and “Nothing To Lose,” plus their explosive cover of The Gun’s “Race With The Devil!” Then, Glasgow 1982 picks up where the London show left off, featuring high octane performances of tracks from both 1981’s Hit and Run and 1982’s Screaming Blue Murder including “The Hunter,” “Live With Me” and more! These performances eventually lead to the ladies’ first U.S. tour later in 1982 opening for Iron Maiden and Scorpions, and establishing a devout fanbase in the States. This historic performance is available on both CD and in a special limited edition purple vinyl pressing.

Girlschool are still going strong performing and recording with lead guitarist Jackie Chambers (who replaces Kelly Johnson). The band is currently touring North America through mid-June, after which they will embark on a massive European tour with Motörhead and Saxon in November! See www.girlschool.co.uk for details.

Rock/Blues Review: Eric Johnson-Europe Live

Release Date: June 23, 2014
Label: Mascot

Eric Johnson’s status has grown exponentially and if you have ever caught him live you would come to understand why. His catalog of studio recordings is superb but hearing him play live takes everything to another level. I can attest to that fact from my own personal experience seeing him live in an intimate setting in upstate New York in 2011.

With his latest release Europe Live from the Mascot label, fans will get a chance to hear what EJ sounds like more recently. Rest assured, he has not missed a step and still plays fluidly and his voice is pitched perfect for select songs where lyrics are part of the mix. If it’s an instrumental romp then I cannot compliment the man enough for his incredible talent and mastery of the six string instrument.

I think what illustrates all of his talent along with his band profoundly are “Mr. P.C.,”  where he takes the guitar into jazz rock fusion territory and the band follows with precise albeit complex partnerships. Two of my all-time favorites shine brightly as well, the easy going “Forty Mile Town” and the rocking instrumental “Cliffs of Dover.” Both are from his breakthrough album Ah Via Musicom (1990). That album blew me away when I first heard and it still does to this day. Hearing those tracks played live elevate the excitement level a few more notches and they include some different changes and nuances that you will never hear on the studio recording.

Guitar players and the artistry of people like Eric Johnson is a special thing to treasure whether you are music fan in general, six string aficionado, or love instrumental rock flavored with blues and jazz, there is enjoyment to be found in every nook and cranny of this music.

Europe Liveis a fine document to the stage presence of Mr. Johnson and the absolute command and mastery of his craft. Don’t pass this one up!

Review: Flying Colors-Live In Europe (CD/DVD)

So what does a super group like Flying Colors do after releasing an amazing debut studio recording? Release a live album of course! It does make sense. While everyone is anxiously awaiting another studio project we can now enjoy Live In Europe. If you need some diversions they are plentiful as each band member has their own bands and solo projects they are always working on. It is an endless, albeit wonderful ongoing process that provides great music for the fan that enjoys progressive rock, rock and pop.

Flying Colors is Mike Portnoy (drums, vocals), Dave LaRue (bass), Neal Morse (keyboards, vocals), Casey McPherson (lead vocals) and Steve Morse (guitar). The band combines rock, progressive rock and pop in a most satisfying way. If you have not listened yet you need to discover this band! What better place to start than right here with this live release.

Live In Europe comes in several formats including a 2 CD set, DVD, Blu ray and a 3 LP limited edition set that is available on the band’s website. For those familiar with the band and each individual member and their distinct sounds and recorded material outside the realm of the band, this will be a real treat. If you are concerned about quality well that does not have to be a sticky point. You can see and listen to the video provided of “The Storm” as everything and more is presented here with the utmost care and quality. Another point of contention normally with live releases is that bands have a tendency to be either unable or unwilling to duplicate what they have created in the studio. Again this is not the case here, they do it with all the flair and energy that each member can muster and it comes out sounding amazing.

Casey McPherson sounds great and he even does one of his own songs “Can’t Find a Way” and it gives the young vocalists (young in comparison to the other band members!) a chance to shine on his own. It fits the set just right. Portnoy does Dream Theater’s “Repentance,” LaRue presents “Spur of the Moment,”  Morse does Spock Beard’s “June,” and Steve Morse gets his moment in the spotlight with the classic Dixie Dregs “Odyssey.” This is all to the sheer delight of the crowd attending the concert as they get a cross section of prog rock history along with original band material.

Live In Europe hits the bulls eye in every aspect and if you are chomping at the bit for a great live experience on CD, DVD, Blu ray or LP I think this will set you straight, at least for a while until another album comes out. Progressive rock is enjoying tremendous growth and gaining popularity daily. With bands like Flying Colors that appeal to a large cross section of listeners, it opens the door to advances in musical development, plants the seeds for more growth and expansion and most of all adds new listeners within the genres broad scope. The “Infinite Fire” (a great closer for the show) of Prog has a multicolored paint brush that is continually creating new masterpieces, now we have one more to hang in the gallery.
