Jamie Knox highlights hope in a time of need in new album 'Reflex Apology'

London-born songwriter and house-proud bedroom producer Jamie Knox is an artist you won’t get tired of hearing. Drawing influence from artists such as Elliott Smith, James Blake, Sufjan Stevens, Fink and Beck, Jamie could easily have his name in lights like his heroes. The isolation brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic inspired a new album of material; themed around the aspiration for hope and managing the dark places your mind can go to when you’re alone. Speaking about the new release, Jamie shares “'on the rocks' is a song about when your life improves but you're struggling to accept it because you're used to regular disappointment. It's about how your previous experiences shape who you are. When you cocoon yourself in prior trauma, your cynicism can be a crutch that you lean on to avoid being disappointed when your relationships break down. The message at the songs core is that any one of us are capable of acknowledging the painful experiences that shaped us without allowing it to consume the joyful moments in our lives. The song says simply that ‘there’s nothing wrong with you’ and encourages you to look where you are now and how far you’ve come." Receiving praise from the likes of CLASH, New Noise Magazine and CLOUT to name a few outlets, Jamie Knox is certainly paving the way for a vivid future ahead. Musically, ‘on the rocks’ gently builds and comes across as extremely melodic.

Captain Beefheart And The Magic Band Alumni Jeff Cotton To Release His Debut Solo Album “The Fantasy Of Reality” On Madfish August 12, 2022

Jeff Cotton of Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band fame will be releasing his first ever solo album “The Fantasy of Reality” on Madfish on August 12, 2022.

After playing guitar, lap steel and vocals with the legendary Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band, appearing on the ground breaking album “Trout Mask Replica” (under the pseudonym Antennae Jimmy Semens), as well as playing on “Strictly Personal” & “Mirror Man,” Cotton withdrew from the commercial music business for nearly 50 years. Using the island state of Hawaii as a home base, he emerges from his seclusion in 2022 with his first ever solo album; “The Fantasy of Reality.”

Whimsical, playful and tongue-in-cheek – Cotton delivers a psychedelic journey that will delight Beefheart devotees while bringing plenty of new ideas to the table across the sprawling 22 track, 66-minute runtime. “Trout Mask Replica” cover designer Cal Schenkel collaborates once again as he returns to contribute to the internal artwork of the album to continue the Captain Beefheart canon into the 2020s.

Across the decades, the Magic Band’s power and influence has only grown in might, and the cult following of 1969’s “Trout Mask Replica” still excites fans to this day, in part due to the mystery and enigma of members such as Antennae Jimmy Semens (aka Jeff Cotton). In 1967, Cotton was scoped by Don Van Vliet – Captain Beefheart himself, replacing Ry Cooder on guitar. He then went one to help craft some of Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band’s most vibrant recordings and later contributed to the cult band MU.

Now blending together musical strands such as jazz, delta blues, Hawaiian and the avant-garde to create a melting pot of ideas, Cotton will astonish fans with his comeback.

The magic will continue on “The Fantasy of Reality,” which will be released on CD & Digital via Madfish with PRE ORDERS AVAILABLE HERE (https://jeffcotton.lnk.to/fantasyofreality)

ANYONE Releases “The Sylvia Sessions” Tribute To Taylor Hawkins

Featuring the earliest recordings of Taylor Hawkins to ever be heard!

TogethermenT Records is proud to announce the release of a 5 Song album by the critically acclaimed rock band ANYONE featuring the late Taylor Hawkins on Drums. The EP is entitled “The Sylvia Sessions” and is available now. The release is also available as a deluxe NFT Package with exclusive video, pictures, liner notes.

Watch the promotional video: https://www.anyoneden.net/the-sylvia-sessions-teaser

“The Sylvia Sessions” is a historically significant release, featuring the earliest recordings of Taylor Hawkins to ever be heard - recorded in 1993 and originally released as a demo tape. The EP captures Hawkins in his youthful exuberance playing with the explosive attack that would ultimately make him a rock drumming legend. This is amongst the first full albums to ever be released as an NFT package.

ANYONE was formed by Riz Story, along with Jon Davison (Yes) and Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters) in the late 80’s in Laguna Beach, California.  Hawkins and Story worked together for the bands early years and together created the bands unique sound, which was dubbed ‘Maximum Acid’ by the press. Hawkins and Davison were replaced by the time the band signed with RoadRunner Records in 2000. Their self-titled debut album received much critical acclaim including a 5-star rating from Rolling Stone (Adrian Zupp).

In October of 2016 the single “Fly Away” was featured in Story’s debut feature film “A Winter Rose” and became the most listened to rock song in America on digital radio, hitting #1 on the DRT National Airplay Rock Chart. The 2020 album release of “On the ending earth…” was met with widespread critical acclaim as was the monumental album released in October of 2021. “In Humanity” is a double concept album featuring an unprecedented display of virtuosity by Riz Story, who performed all instruments and vocals as well as producing, mixing and mastering.

Vanderwolf Releases “12 Little Killers” LP As Follow Up To His “Extinction” EP

Following the recent release of his EP “Extinction” which featured musical legends Robert Wyatt and Daevid Allen, Vanderwolf has put forth an album of 12 original tracks available on vinyl and digital download - his first LP under his own name.

Vanderwolf re-emerges with “12 Little Killers” an eclectic collection that includes the deliciously oozing slice of psychedelia of the single “Glisten,” which is heavily-slanted toward melting analogue synthesizers (Sam Sallon) and rich layers of acoustic guitars (Chris Cordoba) and an exquisite vocal by Max Vanderwolf.

Recorded by producer Chris Wyles at his south London studio, the 12 songs were selected, mixed and compiled by keyboardist and co-producer Sam Sallon. It’s available in a limited pressing of 500.

Says Max, “These 12-tracks, present human fallibility in its many forms - greed, anxiety, lust, self-debasement, our seemingly limitless capacity to hurt others – it’s all there. It was important to have a visual identity that carries these themes.”

Vanderwolf’s music spans a wide-range of genres from global beats to hard blues to fragile balladry to prog-rock monstrosities and beyond. With a vast back catalogue of songs to release, Vanderwolf is set to get his wild and restless music out to the world.

Born in NYC, working in London and as of 2020 residing in Los Angeles, Max Vanderwolf has recorded several albums and countless songs. Most of them remain unreleased. Notably, he was vocalist and creative-force behind the semi-legendary London band, Last Man Standing, whose sole album in 2008 received plaudits from many including Mojo and Uncut.

Concurrent to his life in music, Vanderwolf has worked under an assumed name as a music programmer and concert producer in some of the worlds’ most celebrated clubs and venues. He went from overseeing the legendary underground downtown NYC’s Knitting Factory to overseeing London’s Royal Festival Hall, where for 9 years he produced the Meltdown Festival where he worked closely with David Bowie, Patti Smith, Jarvis Cocker, Massive Attack and others. He has produced concerts in Brooklyn, Rome and Paris working closely with John Cale, Sparks and the Residents.

With more music from these London sessions being mixed and an album’s worth of new material being recorded in Los Angeles, Max Vanderwolf is diving headlong into the future.

Vanderwolf “12 Little Killers” will be released on July 20, 2022.

Max Vanderwolf - Vocals
Sam Sallon - Keyboards
Chris Wyles  - Drums
Kevin Petillo - Drums

Brian Woodbury To Release “Rhapsody & Filigree” the 4th and Final Volume of the “Anthems & Antithets” Series

Not since... the wondrous works of young Brian Wilson... have I heard sound of this romantic design. Indispensable.” – Van Dyke Parks

Brian Woodbury will be releasing Rhapsody & Filigree, the 4th and Final Volume of the Anthems & Antithets series on July 25th. Brian Woodbury is a songwriter who straddles the avant/pop/theater/comedy divide. His eclecticism ranges from writing Disney cartoon themes and children’s TV songs, to experimental jazz big band, to arranging 1960s Bollywood covers, to a country anthem about marriage equality and Tom Lehrer-esque comedy songs. He has released eleven albums, including the current 4-volume Anthems & Antithets. He creates music videos for his songs, most recently “Gimme Some of That Old Time Prog,” a spot-on sendup of prog rock. His songs have been sung by Nathan Lane, Lisa Loeb, Terre Roche & David Yazbek.

Van Dyke Parks has said of Brian’s music, “Not since... the wondrous works of young Brian Wilson... have I heard sound of this romantic design. Indispensable.” Brian Woodbury has been described as “... a multi-talented musician, bordering on genius. ...He should be up there with Zappa and Beefheart,” BBC Radio 3, Mixing It, and as “a consummate writer of instantly memorable pop tunes,” All Music Guide

Says Brian, “Anthems & Antithets is a series of 4 double albums I’ve made during the pandemic, each one in its own musical mood: comic, confessional, political and arty. Rhapsody & Filigree is the 4th Volume in the series, and the culmination of the project.

Rhapsody & Filigree is expansive, fancy and fanciful - with a wide variety of arty, experimental kinds of pop songwriting, both musically and in subject matter. An emphasis on melody and beauty. The assumption is we’re all educated adults here. I always try to write songs about the things nobody writes songs about. For this album, even more so.

“On this album, I condense large forms into smaller ones. For instance, the rock opera ‘Theseus Rex’ where Theseus is the bastard son of Jerry Garcia from the Grateful Dead. Inspired by early Genesis and prog rock concept albums, this rock opera lasts just over 9 minutes, but it has a sweeping cinematic scope and it tells a tragic story. Another example is the ‘Brief Mass,’ a full setting of the Latin Mass in just over 7 minutes.

“I also love miniatures, like ‘When Byron Swam,’ a song about the elusive nature of artistic achievement. (“Did Lord Byron swim the Dardanelles or was it the Bosphorus?”) Or ‘The Honorable Mention’ where a Hollywood award show nominee rehearses his acceptance speech.”

Here’s what the press has said about the music of Brian Woodbury:

Now it’s official – Brian Woodbury is a multi-talented musician, bordering on genius. …he should be up there with Zappa and Beefheart.” - BBC Radio 3 Mixing It

“…An extraordinary confection. Surprise your dinner guests; flummox the music anoraks; and enjoy.” - John Bungey, The Times (London)

A cleverly lyrical, deviously funny kitchen-sink songwriter.” - New York Daily News

An authentic pop gem that lovers of XTC and the like should absolutely not miss.” - Ondarock (Italy)

Brian Woodbury is a particularly beautiful example of a maverick in the mainstream and double agent in the pop industry.” - Bad Alchemy (Germany)

“…alluring…. there is no way to classify what Woodbury and his Orchestra do…. There are other artists who blend styles, but none quite so seamlessly and with complete abandon as Woodbury. …Full of captivating melodies and rhythms…. Clever without being coy, this album is remarkable….” - All About Jazz

It’s one thing to have that exceptional ability to fuse humor and witty lyrics to great music – Zappa, 10cc, Ray Stevens, Weird Al come to mind – but it’s altogether something else to be able to do it while genre hopping all over the musical map with highly original material. Quirky, witty, artful and sometimes poignant, covering the pop and country spectrum.” - Expose

Says Brian, “I had the great opportunity of collaborating with dozens of unique artists on this album. One song ‘How Soon We Forget, How Long We Remember,’ a song about the evolution of culture, was constructed using a game of musical telephone, where a half-remembered musical theme was recreated and passed on to the next musician in the chain.

“Another collaboration came about when I found my music confused with the music of a different Brian Woodbury on all the streaming platforms. A situation apparently beyond the ability of the tech giants to solve. So I reached out to this other Brian Woodbury - a jazz trombonist - and we wrote a song about it. Called ‘The Other Brian Woodbury.’”

Brian concludes, “The overriding theme of the new CD is the future. Whereas Volume 2 is a wistful look at the past, and Volume 3 is an indictment of the injustices of the present, on the new album I tried to glimpse the future. To see what positive or at least non-dystopian outcomes we have to look forward to. Dystopia is an easy pose, but it shows an utter lack of imagination. In the face of climate change and authoritarianism, it’s a copout. There are solutions, and hints of better things to come. There will be a future.”

In support of the new releases, Brian is making music videos for the 18 songs on the new album, as well as continuing to make videos for songs from the other volumes of “Anthems & Antithets”. There are 20 music videos so far from the other volumes. And in a unique kind of tour, Brian will be doing a series of attentive listening parties at select music listening rooms in the US, UK & Europe.

Release date July 25th for both the new CD (Rhapsody & Filigree) and box set of all four volumes of the “Anthems & Antithets” project.
