The band is really excited about the momentum and recognition the release has gained thus far. They are anticipating an exciting time introducing all the new material on a live stage.

One reviewer commented on the new album: This is a fantastic hard rock album with a lot of talent on display. You get it all in one package, a band with an ultra-cool name and sounds to match-Keith “MuzikMan” Hannaleck

The Ann Arbor Summer Festival is an exciting celebration of performing arts, outdoor entertainment, and community spirit that starts in June and runs through July. A boutique music and arts festival, the three-week gathering offers dozens of performances, activities, exhibitions, and screenings representative of the best in music, dance, comedy, film, circus and street arts, and family entertainment.

There will be six music acts performing there and Black Note Grafitti will go on stage at the Main Stage Summerfest July 5th at 7:00 pm.

Progressive Metal Review: Anubis Gate-Horizons

Release Date:April 15, 2014
Label: Nightmare Records

Anubis Gate markets themselves as “Denmark’s premier prog/powermetal band” and it is hard to argue with this statement after listening to their newest release, Horizons.  I would also say that they would be considered a premier band no matter which country they call home, in fact.  Following the success of 2011’s self-titled album, Horizons is not just a step in the right direction from Anubis Gate after their previous album, but it is also a step up, because this might just be their best work yet.

Even more impressive is that they have managed to stay so consistent quality wise, following the departure of two of their founding members. Guitarist Jesper M. Jensen left in 2012 and drummer Morten Sørensen departed a few months later.  Anubis Gate’s current line-up stands as Kim Olesen (guitar, keyboards), Henrik Fevre (bass, lead vocals), Michael Bodin (guitar), and Morten Gade Sørensen (drums).  Their chemistry must be very strong, as they have crafted a true progressive metal masterpiece with Horizons.

“Destined to Remember” is the first of ten incredible tracks.  It is a fantastic opener that is a complete rush, showing that these guys are still in top form.  The music is grand and explosive and the vocals sound clear and powerful.  It is evident that they have not been placated by the success of their previous album.  “Never Like This (A Dream)” comes out hard and unrelenting before switching to a more melodic sound.  It is one all-around rocking sound with a catchy chorus that has been stuck in my head for days.

For all those out there looking for the perfect song to head bang to, “Hear My Call” is exactly what you need.  The intro is devilishly good and thrashing.  Then the guitars and vocals kick in for a melodic song that absolutely soars.  I can see this one being an album favorite for many.  Offering a refreshing change of pace is “Airwaves” with its toned down acoustic opening.  This song offers a nice mix of melodic rock with the progressive sound.  “Revolution Come Undone” is a monster of musical creation that thrashes pretty hard.  It is chest-thumping, get-your-blood-pumping type of song, making it an excellent song to mosh to.

At the album’s halfway point, “Breach of Faith” lures you in with the opening keyboards and then switches to some hypnotic drums and guitar, before bringing it all together for an ecstatic release of music. The heavy and brooding “Mindlessness” follows it up.  It has an excellent groove with some great riffs.  The dazzling music of “Horizons” is a picture of melodic progressive metal perfection.  “A Dream Within a Dream” is a 14-minute epic that never becomes tiresome.  It is a wondrous song with many surprises.  It is dark and ambient, while being very melodic and, at times, quite catchy. In the end, “A Dream Within a Dream” is the perfect example of Anubis Gate blending their diverse sound influences.

Anubis Gate’s Horizons is a triumphant album.  This is the type of music that needs to be absorbed through multiple listens, as it will get better each time.  It is a little early to call it, but I think that it is safe to say that Horizons is a contender for best progressive metal album of the year.  Fans should love this album, and, if you are new to Anubis Gate, then this is a good as any place to start.  It will not disappoint.

Prog News: Thine Release New Album The Dead City Blueprint

Band statement:

“We’ve been toiling away for over a decade on shaping our latest monster. It has been such a long & grueling process with countless collapses & relapses & a traumatic voyage on numerous levels, but this opus is finally in the flesh so to speak. It is an encapsulation of all those glorious tragedies we all find ourselves overcoming along the way, & essentially for us, a welcome catalyst. Sometimes the best art comes only through being unexpectedly forced through the city’s darkest avenues, so hope you’ll find us there”.

Opeth Release Pushed Back

08/05/2014 ~ by Martin Kielty

Source Link: http://www.progmagazine.com/news/2014-05-08/opeth-release-pushed-back

11th album Pale Communion will appear in August
Opeth have confirmed rumours that the release of their 11th studio album, Pale Communion, has been delayed.

It will now appear on August 25 via Roadrunner Records after Mikael Akerfeldt and co ran into scheduling difficulties that made the planned June deadline impossible to meet.

He says in a statement: "Many of you have heard the rumours already. We can now confirm the release of Pale Communion has indeed been pushed back."

"Several circumstances prevented the band from delivering essential tools to Roadrunner in time, which are needed to set up the release properly. Release schedule conflicts made us decide on August instead of June."

He recently explained his decision to record using digital technology instead of his preferred analogue equipment, saying: "We didn’t have time. When we have recorded onto tape, even if we’ve been well-rehearsed, we spend a month or six weeks, which I didn’t want to do this time. I wanted it to be fast, spontaneous and fun.”

Lead single Cusp Of Eternity will be launched on June 3 ahead of Opeth's appearance at this year's Download festival. A second track is scheduled for release in July.

Queensryche Settle With Tate

Fired singer loses rights to name but gains exclusive chance to perform Operation Mindcrime albums live.

Well-wishers: Tate and his ex-bandmates

The two Queensryche factions have finally reached a legal settlement over ownership of the band name following the sacking of Geoff Tate in 2012.

Relationships had broken down between the singer and bandmates Eddie Jackson, Scott Rockenfield and Michael Wilton, leading to a violent confrontation which saw Tate’s dismissal, and his replacement by Todd La Torre.

The argument went to court, with both parties given the entitlement to use the Queensryche title until a later ruling, or a settlement was reached.

That’s happened just ahead of a return to the courtroom. Jackson, Rockenfield and Wilton will continue under the band name while Tate will be compensated for his share of ownership, and leaves with the rights to perform an Operation Mindcrime live show, based on the band’s 1988 concept album and its 2006 second volume.

In a join statement the parties say: “An amicable settlement has been reached. According to the agreement, original members Eddie Jackson, Scott Rockenfield and Michael Wilton along with recent members Todd La Torre and Parker Lundgren, will noes be the sole entity recording and touring as Queensryche, performing selections from their entire musical catalogue that spans over 30 years of material.

“Original Queensryche lead singer Geoff Tate will continue to record, perform and pursue a variety of other creative endeavours. As part of the agreement he will have the exclusive rights to perform Operation Mindcrime I and II in their entirety as a unique performance.

“Both sides wish each other well and are excited about what the future holds. We want to thank the fans for standing beside us though this ordeal, and look forward to sharing our music with you for years to come.”

Tate’s version of Queensryche launched an album called Frequency Unknown in April last year, while the other original members’ lineup launched a self-titled record two months later.

Prog Rock Music Talk Feature: Not Otherwise Specified

Inspired by the likes of Dream Theater, Genesis, Spock’s Beard, and Pink Floyd, Not Otherwise Specified (NOS) delivers their own style of progressive rock with a modern aggressive punch. Music for a Mid-Life Geek states that NOS’s music is, “everything that is great about prog rock.”

NOS released its debut album Judgment on May 30th 2011. This album combines themes of observation and personal discovery with a heavy guitar riffs, melodic vocals, and emotional guitar and keyboard solos. While initially meant to be a rock album, the songs kept coming out prog. He decided to stop trying to fight this pull and allowed himself to be pulled into the progressive rock sound.

Not Otherwise Specified began in December of 2008 when founding (and currently only) member Craig Kerley decided to return to his music roots. After a 15 year hiatus, Craig decided it was time to stop neglecting his love of writing and performing progressive rock and began work on NOS's debut album.
