MAGMA To Release 12-CD Live Set “KÖHNZERT ZÜND BOX SET”

Paris, France - You have to see Magma live at least once in your life! For Magma, live performance is essential. Live performance allows – and forgives – no mistakes. You give your all, all at once. You are on a tightrope, with no safety net… It is too late for thought. The body, the hands and the instinct speak first; the fruit of reflection. This planned spontaneity, these raw sounds, this savage energy at concerts make live performance a wonderful experience.

Magma has joined up with Jazz Village to celebrate its 45th anniversary with an impressive series of new and classic releases. A series of new and classic Magma titles has been scheduled for release every month from September 2014 to November 2015. Music Legends Magma To Release Iconic 1975 Live Album “Magma Live Hhaï” on Limited Edition Vinyl!

Paris, France - Completing the series of vinyl reissues, French music legends Magma will be issuing their iconic 1975 live album Magma Live Hhaï on limited edition vinyl. This double LP will be released by Jazz Village Records on October 2, 2015.

Magma has joined up with Jazz Village to celebrate its 45th anniversary with an impressive series of new and classic releases. A series of new and classic Magma titles has been scheduled for release every month from September 2014 to November 2015. A legendary French group if ever there was one, Magma has continued to influence the course of contemporary music since their debut in 1969.

After the departure in autumn of 1974 of Jannick TOP and most of the other members of the band, MAGMA rose phoenix-like from the ashes with a new, hot, line-up which saw the musical opportunity lying before it. After long rehearsals Christian VANDER realized that he had yet another exceptional groupand the decision was taken to record the first MAGMA live album. The recording, made in June 1975 at the Taverne de l'Olympia, perfectly demonstrates the incredible impact made by MAGMA. Absolutely dedicated to the music of Christian VANDER, who by that time had reached the summit of his art, the band plays as if it were one man and sweeps all before it in its triumphant passage. Whether it was a new arrangement of any of the old pieces (KOHNTARK, KOBAIA, MEKANIK) or a previously-unheard piece (HHAI, LIHNS), the sound of MAGMA has never been heard more powerfully as on this incredible recording. Although it remains difficult to point to any one performance as being outstanding, it would nevertheless be difficult not to react to the mind-blowing performance by Didier Lockwood, whose violin playing contributes so greatly to the profound originality of this magnificent double-album.

Christian VANDER drums, vocals - Klaus BLASQUIZ vocals - Stella VANDER vocals - Bernard PAGANOTTI bass - Gabriel FEDEROW guitar - Didier LOCKWOOD violin - Benoit WIDEMANN keyboards - Jean-Pol ASSELINE keyboards

ZUND 1:
1 - KOHNTARK part 1
2 - KOHNTARK part 2

ZUND 2:
1 - HHAI
2 - KOBAH
3 - LIHNS
5 - MEKANIK ZAIN

Recorded live between June 1 & 5, 1975 at la TAVERNE DE L’OLYMPIA, Paris  by Frank OWENS. Mixed at studio Le Chateau by George Chkiantz

French Music Legends Magma To Play Select North American Dates Spring 2015!

Paris, France - One of music's most innovative and eclectic ensembles Magma will be performing select North American dates beginning in April 2015! Swirling riffs in odd time signatures, theatrical choir arrangements, heavy and distorted pulsing bass guitar, bombastic and minimalistic (sometimes both at the same time), dark and brooding, adventurous and angelic, jazzy or classical, but always with the highly innovative and original drums of founder and main composer Christian Vander. On the forthcoming US dates the legendary ensemble will be performing selections of new and classic Magma music!

“MAGMA is happy to return to the United States to play for Americans. We know you are passionate, respectful and curious about music. We find you to be generous and open. It will be a joy for us to see you this year.” - Christian Vander

Magma was founded in Paris in 1969 by Christian Vander, who derived his inspiration from a "vision of humanity's spiritual and ecological future" that profoundly disturbed him. Vander was a self-taught musician, who received some tips from drum legend Elvin Jones. In the course of Magma's first album, the band tells the story of a group of people fleeing a doomed Earth to settle on the planet Kobaïa. Later, conflict arises when the Kobaïans, who are descendants of the original colonists, encounter other Earth refugees. A distinguished aspect of Magma's music is that Vander actually invented a constructed language, Kobaïan, in which most lyrics are sung. Later albums told different stories set in more ancient times; however the Kobaïan language remained an integral part of the music. Reportedly, Christian Vander is also highly influenced by the work of jazz legend John Coltrane. “For my work, it is still Coltrane who actually gives me the real material to work on, to be able to move on.,” says Vander.

Christian Vander's Offering 'Concert Triton 2013' 2-CD/DVD Set Now Available!

Paris, France - Much to the excitement of Christian Vander and Magma fans worldwide, Seventh Records is releasing Offering 'Concert Triton 2013' 2-CD/DVD! In 1983, motivated by the strong artistic impulse to return to his “Coltrane” roots, with a sound that's more flexible than MAGMA, Christian Vander created “Offering”; a new ensemble that focused on vocals, keyboards and percussion. More experimental, leaving a great part to improvisation, this group allowed musicians to explore new musical avenues.

Offering has remained out of the sight and hearing of the younger generations for the past 30 years. In order that they benefit, too, this wonderful “gift” that was “Offering”, Christian Vander and his musicians decided to celebrate this anniversary musically with candles glowing and a flame burning as bright as the first day. This initiative will delight all fans regardless of their ages...Galaxy Magma!
