Spirits Burning & Clearlight Feat. Members of GONG, Hawkwind & Clearlight To Release New Album “The Roadmap In Your Head”

London, UK - “The Roadmap In Your Head” is the 13th studio album from the Spirits Burning space rock collective, and the second to feature keyboardist Cyrille “Clearlight” Verdeaux. The album has a strong Gong presence, as it includes performances by four musicians from Gong's Radio Gnome Invisible Trilogy (Daevid Allen, Steve Hillage, Mike Howlett, Didier Malherbe), and four members of the current Gong (Ian East, Fabio Golfetti, Dave Sturt, Kavus Torabi). Clearlight is a project of French songwriter and composer Cyrille Verdeaux that blends classical romanticism and prog-rock experimentation. The first Clearlight album was released under the name “Clearlight Symphony,” in 1974, by British major label Virgin Records. The most recent release was 2015's “Impressionist Symphony.”

“Spirits Burning is a musical collective overseen by American composer/producer Don Falcone that has released a pluralistic combination of ambient, jazz and full-on space-rock with input from many of the genre's luminaries. Spirits Burning has become a respected melting pot of the space-rock fraternity.” Ian Abrahams, Rock N Reel, July-August, 2008.

Says founding member and band leader Don Falcone, “ 'Roadmap' is a musical journey from the beginning of one possible day to the next, touching different styles of music along the way. Like the previous Spirits Burning & Clearlight album, the songs are primarily instrumental. The new album is also a salute to Daevid and what he has meant to Spirits Burning, as he has been part of every release, except one.” Gong legend Daevid Allen, who sadly passed away in 2015, co-wrote two songs on this release. He sings on the closing track “Roadmaps,” and plays guitar on this track and the opening title track.

There are thirty-five musicians on Spirits Burning's “The Roadmap In Your Head.” Besides members of the Gong global family, there are some special new crewmembers: Paul Booth (who recorded his part while touring with Steve Winwood), Theo Travis (who has played with David Gilmour, Porcupine Tree, and Gong), Judy Dyble (who provided some autoharp flourishes), and Jonathan Segel from Camper Van Beethoven (who Don invited after discovering he was a Gong fan). Returning crewmembers include: Hawkwind family members Steve Bemand, Nik Turner, and Bridget Wishart, plus Albert Bouchard (BÖC). “The Roadmap In Your Head” was mastered by well known ambient recording artist Robert Rich.

Nik Turner, Co-Founder Of Space Rock Legends HAWKWIND, Launches A Full-Scale, Coast-To-Coast US Tour!

Los Angeles, CA - Fresh off a whirlwind tour through Europe and Japan, Nik Turner, the inexhaustible saxophone and flute-playing co-founder of space rock legends Hawkwind, will return for another US tour accompanied by up-and-coming kraut/prog rock band Hedersleben. Following what has been widely regarded as the most ambitious album of his career, one that MOJO called “a sprawling but polished album,” Space Fusion Odyssey, Turner continues his astonishing career rebirth with a newly reinvigorated sense of musical creativity and sonic exploration.

Frequently called “The Spirit Of Hawkwind,” Turner was a major creative force during that group’s most critically acclaimed and successful period, 1969-1976. His outlandish costumes, improvised sax and flute playing, and general wild man persona became iconic representations of the band, and we would go on to pen some of their most popular songs including “Brainstorm” and “Master of the Universe.” After leaving Hawkwind, Turner used his newfound freedom to travel to Egypt, where he soaked up the history and culture, and also made a recording of his flute music in the King’s Chamber of the Great Pyramid of Cheops. In 1985, Turner relocated to the western side of Wales, where he set up a new age community in a fairly rural, isolated area. He has continued to release new music including 2013’s Space Gypsy and 2015’s Space Fusion Odyssey. A brand new track from his forthcoming studio album premieres on a special 6CD box set called Space Rock: An Interstellar Traveler’s Guide. This incredible collection features a diverse sampling of space rock artists young and old including Hawkwind, Amon Düül II, Ozric Tentacles, Gong, Can, Earthling Society, and Hedersleben along with a whole host of others!

Hawkwind Legend Nik Turner Responds To Recent Article, Prepares to Tour Europe, Japan & The US

London - In response to a recent article in PROG magazine Hawkwind legend Nik Turner had this to impart:

“It sorely saddens me that the members and previous members of that once noble group, Hawkwind, of which I numbered myself a part at the time, are not all able to communicate in the same loving way that we did, back in the day, when the band's success was enhanced and encouraged by the love and creative input and energies, much of a wise and Alternative ilk, of such loving and caring people as Mr Barney Bubbles [RIP], Mr Michael Moorcock, Mr Jonathan Smeeton, Mr Robert Calvert [RIP], and many more, who gave their unconditional love and creative energies to the band. Come on, guys, let's work together. I wish all members of Hawkwind, past, present and future, nothing but health, wealth, success, happiness and loving energy. Let's all be friends, life is too short for any other course.”

Turner, the inexhaustible saxophone and flute-playing co-founder of space rock legends Hawkwind, is set to complete a tour throughout Europe and Japan as well as a return Stateside for another tour this Fall accompanied by up-and-coming kraut/prog rock band Hedersleben. Dates for the U.S. tour will be announced later this month. Following what has been widely regarded as the most ambitious album of his career, one that MOJO called “a sprawling but polished album,” Space Fusion Odyssey, Turner continues his astonishing career rebirth with a newly reinvigorated sense of musical creativity and sonic exploration. Turner’s most recent offering is a full-length album of improvisational jazz freakouts with a Seattle-based ensemble, which includes drummer Jack Gold-Molina and guitarist Dennis Rea (both of psych/prog band Spectral Waves), alongside bassist Paul “PK” Kemmish. Dubbed Flame Tree, the group released its self-titled album last month on Cleopatra’s Purple Pyramid imprint.

Hawkwind Alum NIK TURNER Brings His Spacey Sax & Freaky Flute Playing To A New Album By Experimental Jazz Fusion Ensemble FLAME TREE!

Los Angeles, CA - Having explored the intersection of space rock and jazz fusion on his newest solo album, 2015’s Space Fusion Odyssey, Hawkwind co-founder Nik Turner continues his bold expedition into the outer reaches of experimental music, recording a new full-length album of improvisational jazz freakouts with a Seattle-based ensemble including drummer Jack Gold-Molina and guitarist Dennis Rea (both of psych/prog band Spectral Waves), alongside bassist Paul “PK” Kemmish. The group owes its origins to a meeting between Gold-Molina and Turner, when Gold-Molina interviewed the British space-rock legend back in 2009 for an article in All About Jazz magazine. The idea for a musical collaboration between the two emerged, and as Gold-Molina recalls, “I believe Nik’s exact words were, ‘If people have got the balls to come onstage with me, then they are welcome to.’” And so began the journey that would lead these fearless souls from an initial round of freeform demo recording to putting a full blown band together, recording an album, and even performing live at Seattle’s Seaprog Festival in August of 2015. Enlisting Seattle icon Jack Endino, famed producer of Nirvana, L7, Screaming Trees and others, to mix the album, the band is now set to release this self-titled project on May 20 through Purple Pyramid Records.

Track List:
1. Mosquitos
2. Past Lives
3. In The Distance
4. Liquid
5. Organic Truth
6. Tantalium
7. Wild Flower

The Definitive Account Of Legendary Space Rock Band HAWKWIND’s Early Years Available Now In A 300-Page Hardcover Book!

Los Angeles, CA - They were one of the most groundbreaking rock bands to emerge from England in the late ‘60s whose improvised theatrical stage performances, DIY costumes, and larger-than-life stage presence earned them a cult-like following that persists to this day. And now the exhilarating story of Hawkwind’s most crucial years is about to be told. The Spirit Of Hawkwind 1969-1976, available everywhere on October 30, is the first ever behind-the-scenes look at the meteoric rise of this motley crew of space rock hooligans as told by one of its captains, co-founder and saxophonist Nik Turner. With assistance from music historian Dave Thompson, Nik gives readers the ultimate insider’s guide to Hawkwind, sharing his personal recollections both hilarious and horrifying, from the infamous drug bust of bassist Lemmy, to the group’s shocking performances at Glastonbury Festival. If it happened, it’s here, warts and all. The hardcover book features 300 pages of rare and never-before-seen photos as well as a comprehensive discography, gigography, and a reproduction of Nik’s tour diary from the band’s first US tour in 1975. In addition, the book will include a precise reproduction of the 1971 “Sonic Attack” 7” promo one-sided single housed in a cloth bag plus a full reproduction of a 1971 6” x 9” 20-page promotional booklet. If you’re a Hawkwind fan, Christmas has definitely come early this year, and if you aren’t already a fan prepare to get swept up by The Spirit Of Hawkwind!
