Pink Floyd “One of These Days” 50th Anniversary limited edition print Now Available!

Ian Emes is the British film director, artist, animator, innovator of film techniques and long-time Pink Floyd collaborator. Described as ‘precursor of the music video and digital animation’, Ian’s experimental short film “Meddle – One of These Days” (1972) is the first ever synchronised interpretation of Pink Floyd music. By collaborating with Ian, Pink Floyd found a way to expand the immersive universe of their concerts, having previously used only lighting effects during their performances - ushering in a new era of concert technology not just for Pink Floyd but for rock music as a whole.

When the band commissioned Ian to animate “The Dark Side of The Moon”, he created the world-famous “Time” sequence, (“The Emes Clocks”) which was projected onto a circular screen, (“Mr. Screen”).

Following the euphoric reaction to “Time” at Wembley Arena (1974), Pink Floyd commissioned Ian to create sequences for “Speak To Me”, (which included the iconic prism) “On the Run” and “Us and Them”. The concert films were subsequently seen by millions across the world. Among the many treasures in Ian’s archives are animation tests and storyboards for the entire “The Dark Side of The Moon” album.

This unseen footage includes Ian’s original “Us and Them” sequence of “Marching Crosses” - a forerunner of the “Marching Hammers” seen years later in Roger Waters’ “The Wall”. With its infinite perspectives and tumbling figures, Ian’s dynamic graphic imagery became a founding style for the band. His “Time” sequence was itself re-purposed for Roger Waters’ epic projections onto vast screens in his sell-out “Us and Them” World Tour (2019).

Previously Waters had asked Ian to create sequences for “The Wall - Live in Berlin” (1990), his first solo appearance since splitting from the band. The concert was performed to a sell-out crowd of over 350,000 people, then the biggest concert audience in history.

More recently, Ian’s iconic “Meddle – One of These Days” animation revisited the circular screen in the historic Roman amphitheatre in David Gilmour’s “Live at Pompei” tour (2016).

In parallel to his animation career, Ian continues to experiment as a multi-disciplinary artist, exploring all mediums of the still and moving image. He has created album covers, concept art and storyboards, directed nine feature films, TV series and hundreds of commercials with Ridley Scott Associates, garnering numerous awards, including three BAFTAS and an OSCAR Nomination.

Haight Street Art Center to Open “The Secret Path: The Art of Roger and Freyja Dean”

SAN FRANCISCO, CA: The Haight Street Art Center will open The Secret Path: The Art of Roger and Freyja Dean, an exhibition of original art works by famed UK artists Roger Dean and his daughter Freyja Dean. The Secret Path will immerse visitors in an extraordinary world where life and landscape invoke the splendors of nature through the visionary imagination of the Deans. The exhibition opens August 25 and will close October 30, 2022, before touring to other venues.

Known for his groundbreaking work with Yes and other rock bands, Roger Dean’s six-decade career includes a dazzling range of media and formats. His daughter Freyja has followed in her father’s footsteps, earning international acclaim for her paintings, sculpture, and fabric art. With paintings, drawings, sculptures, and other media, this exhibition connects all facets of the Deans’ wide-ranging and restless imagination.  

Visitors to the Art Center will recognize famous paintings that became the artwork for some of Roger’s legendary album covers, as well as studies of his extraordinary design work including his iconic Yes logo. Curated by Roger in consultation with Freyja, the exhibition includes more than 50 works that will furnish patrons with an imaginative and immersive environment that speaks to the challenges of the present while embracing the promise of the future.

Known as the “only member of Yes who doesn’t play an instrument,” Roger Dean is revered as an award-winning album cover artist, yet his talents go far beyond one medium: his work spans fine art to graphic design, architecture to stage sets, from small-scale drawings to stadium-sized vistas. Freyja Dean’s paintings, sculpture, and fabric art chart the relationships between landscapes and life. Her art reveals the narratives of those geographies and beings, illuminating the lessons they can teach us. Together, the art of the Deans guides viewers through a journey filled with stories. Those stories are about magic: the magic in nature, in natural phenomena and formations, in the seasons and the flow of time.

“This exhibition invites viewers to become participants,” Roger Dean notes. “We are all fellow travelers on the secret path of life. The signposts along the way are our art works, but the destination—the future—belongs to everyone.” For the Deans, this exhibition is an important step in that journey. “We must believe in a future worth striving for,” Freyja Dean explains. “For all of us, there is a secret or hidden path whose entirety we cannot see while we live it.”

The Haight Street Art Center serves San Francisco’s thriving poster art and artist communities with education and cultural development programs, and exhibitions. Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel) has been photographing his touring experiences since the early 1980s. Tens of thousands of photos later, he’s compiled eight of his favorite photographic moments from forty years of touring with King Crimson. These prints include:

All prints of these photographs are hand-titled and signed by Tony Levin. These are limited runs of 500 photogravure prints total. No more will be made after that. The first public orders of the Special Edition Box are assigned print numbers 11-50. Single print orders start at #101.

Each print is handmade on a traditional intaglio press using archive-grade materials that will last for generations. They are printed with oil-based etching ink on 22.25" x 15.5” (56.5 x 40cm) Hahnemuhle Copperplate Brite White, 300 g/sm alpha cellulose paper with torn, deckled edges. These same ink and paper formulas used in Tony Levin’s print collection have been used by printmakers in Europe for hundreds of years.

The 24” x 17” x 1.5”,  traditional, black, fabric-covered, limited-edition, lipped, clamshell-style, print collection box is foil stamped with Tony Levin’s signature.  Tony Levin’s King Crimson Print Collection Box is custom-crafted for optimal storing and preservation of prints.
