Following their recent signing to the Madfish label, legendary prog outfit Spock’s Beard have announced their highly anticipated new album The Archaeoptimist. Set for release on 21^st November, the new album sees the group at their effervescent and experimental best delivering some of their finest work from a career spanning more than 30 years.

Speaking on the news, frontman Ted Leonard shared: “The new album is largely the brainchild of Ryo and a co-writer, Michael Whiteman, with lyrical contributions from Alan and myself. While not a concept album, the title is taken from one of the tracks called ‘The Archaeoptimist’. This epic follows the story of a young girl being raised by her father in a post-cataclysmic world and her pathway from being an inspiration to a leader. Other songs vary in theme from obsession with one's work or task to musings about the passage of time forging ahead despite obstacles.

Musically, while tipping a hat to the Spock's legacy, the new album has an energy that arguably surpasses many or our previous releases due, in no small part, to the addition of Nick Potters on drums. He's an amazing and well-rounded musician who has perfect pitch and a great singing voice (yes, we found a drummer that is an amazing singer...named Nick!). Between Michael and Ryo's writing, this album also has a melodic complexity that may sound new to fans. Anyone who has heard Ryo improvise will have likely picked up on a fusion influence and that certainly shows up in the writing.

At the centre of this particular storm is Ryo Okumoto, whose fingerprints are all over the album, not just as a performer, but as a driving creative force. Teaming up with co-writer Michael Whiteman (I Am the Manic Whale) and longstanding bandmembers Alan Morse & Ted Leonard, Ryo has helped shape an album that is undeniably Spock’s Beard with a characteristic wry smile to boot.

The album was produced by Okumoto and recorded at each band member’s respective home studio. Esteemed producer Rich Mouser (Dream Theater/Weezer) takes up the mixing and mastering duties.

SYRINX - Heavy moods. Hard grooves. Progressive fire from the fringe.

Born in the shadows of a slanted farmhouse outside Vancouver, SYRINX is a heavy metal/progressive rock collective led by guitarist, producer, Graham McGee. Known for their theatrical flair and cerebral songwriting, the band delivers a fresh and unique blend of oldschool heavymetal and classic prog wizardry — echoing the likes of Rush, Genesis, Fates Warning, Queensrÿche, and Judas Priest.

SYRINX began over a decade ago when McGee met powerhouse vocalist Jean-Pierre Abboud (JP) during a wild 30-date Canadian tour with their former band Funeral Circle. When that group folded, the two set their sights on a more expansive sonic path — moving away from gothic and occult themes into deeper, more musically daring territory. From this shift, SYRINX emerged. After their first two releases in 2019 and 2020, SYRINX went dormant as McGee battled a severe case of Lyme disease, stepping away from music entirely. But the silence didn't last. Returning with renewed fire, McGee unexpectedly linked up with drummer Seth Lyon—whose precision, creativity, and shared love of odd time signatures (and black coffee... and Rush) sparked an instant chemistry. In the foothills of the Pacific West Coast mountains, SYRINX breathed again.

Their upcoming sophomore LP Time Out of Place was nearly derailed just weeks before recording when their bassist unexpectedly left the band. But rather than crumble, the band saw it as an opportunity. Enter Bobby Shock — a multi-instrumentalist from New Jersey who slid effortlessly into the SYRINX groove and smashed it out of the park on incredibly short notice. A fully aligned creative energy, Bobby is SYRINX in every way — and his presence elevated the album to a whole new level.

The band’s lineup now includes Graham McGee (guitar/synths), JP (vocals), Seth Lyon (drums), and Bobby Shock (bass/synth), with supporting vocals from Lady Chanelle, McGee’s wife a gifted vocalist whose harmonies add dimension and grace to the band's already diverse sound. McGee and Shock also both wield Moog Taurus pedals and synths live, giving the band a crushing live presence rarely matched on modern stages!

Despite being spread across Vancouver, Denver, and New Jersey, the members work with focused intensity whenever they’re physically together.

ELIOT KING SMITH TEAMS UP WITH AUDREY MARTELLS (CHIC) TO BRING TO LIFE THE STORY OF JOSEPHINE BAKER

THE NEW SINGLE “JOSEPHINE” HAS JUST BEEN RELEASED ON ALL DIGITAL PLATFORMS THROUGH DEKO ENTERTAINMENT (ADA/WARNER MUSIC GROUP).

Stockton, NJ - In the 1920s, faced with the grinding poverty and segregation of East St. Louis, Josephine Baker took her dancing and musical talents first to New York, and then, at 19, arrived in Paris to perform with the Folies Bergère. Entranced by her reception and treatment by French society, she rose to stardom almost immediately at the Folies. She starred in multiple films, and scored a big hit song that summed up her reverence for the freedom she experienced as a French citizen in contrast to the discrimination and segregation that black performers were subjected to in the US. Now Eliot King Smith has teamed up with Audrey Martells (Chic, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston) and producer Wade Tonken (Jane Oliver, Robert Lamb, etc…) to bring you their song “Josephine”.

Eliot King Smith is a Seattle born musician and composer whose parents were both concert pianists. His first public recital was at age 6 and he is a big fan of R & B and artists like BB King and Aretha Franklin. Audrey Martells was born in London England, and has performed extensively on stage, on film and as a singer/songwriter. Her recording credits include Whitney Houston, Brandy, Britney Spears and Celine Dion. She is currently on tour with Nile Rodgers and Chic. Wade Tonken is a Producer, Composer, Recording Engineer, Sound Designer and Multi-Instrumentalist. Wade opened the NYC based Noize Factory recording studio where he collaborated with many artists including Jane Oliver, L L Cool J, and Robert Lamb of Chicago. His work has appeared on HBO, ABC, Nickelodeon, PBS, Sesame Workshop, CNN and Disney.

French-Brazilian Guitar Virtuoso Marcelo Paganini To Release Two Singles Digitally on November 20, 2024

If not now, then when? Just before celebrating his 60th anniversary, French-Brazilian guitar player, composer, producer and film-maker Marcelo Paganini will digitally release two singles on the 20th of November 2024.

The first single Marcelo Paganini will release is his short orchestral overture “Poder Paralelo”. It is just 49 bars. It lasts only about one minute. Perfect for the short attention span audience of the current times. It is the first movement of his first symphony “Belo Horizonte” that he wrote 20 years ago, when his friend Andre Dequech told him about a composition contest. Award nominee sound engineer John Chapman did the audio mixing in Hollywood, California, USA. Marcelo Paganini conducted by himself the Budapest Scoring Orchestra in Budapest, Hungary on October the 23rd for the recording. 3 cameras captured the performance and the video will also be released on the 20th of November. There will also be an “making of” short film documentary produced and directed by Marcelo Paganini that will be released next year on the film festival circuit.

Marcelo Paganini is still stepping on the clouds after coming back from Budapest: “I have never written for orchestra before, and I started with the most difficult part, the “tutti” when all the instruments play at once. I hired the great orchestrator Thomas Goss to mentor me in the process of making sure everything was correct and would sound right. Because it is easy to write something that sounds good on the computer but doesn’t translate well with a real orchestra. But Thomas Goss said he had very little to do, that it was great scoring. What he mostly did was transcribe my work and prepare all the scores for the session. With just one half an hour to record, I had to plan every detail in advance. Everybody at Budapest Scoring Orchestra is wonderful and very professional, they made the whole experience very smooth. Since I wrote the overture and knew it by heart, I could conduct without a score. This gave me the advantage to have my whole brain, both arms and eyes on the orchestra all the time.”

“To conduct is to ‘play’ the orchestra, the ultimate instrument,” explained Marcelo Paganini. “The orchestra became me, and I became the orchestra. The way all my body communicated my musical intentions to the 67 musicians was the most intense feeling I had in my life. I have never done that before. I was dreaming about doing it since I was a child and the first time I saw and heard an orchestra. I had never conducted an orchestra before, I was moved to tears when the orchestra applauded me at the end. I was not expecting that at all. Just look at the smile on the musician’s face, that is priceless. Forever in my heart. I hope Eumir Deodato will be proud of me. Now I am doing everything I can to go back to Budapest as soon as possible to record the rest of my symphony. There are two more movements, ‘Central Parque Municipal’ and ‘Nao sei contar’. 11 more minutes and 2 hours recording time with the orchestra. I am also looking forward to performing it live with orchestras around the world. A one-minute overture is easier to find a spot in a program than the whole 12 minutes symphony. Marcelo Paganini Band (1998)

The second single to be released is the blues jazz bossa nova song “Sentir” (Marcelo Paganini) recorded live by the Marcelo Paganini Band featuring the Brazilian singer Catia Werneck at Divan du Monde in Paris, France on November the 27th 1998. Marcelo Paganini finally found the tapes in a box in his attic, decades later, after moving around way too many times. The band is: Marcelo Paganini on guitar, arrangements. Catia Werneck as a guest singer. Laurent de Oliveira on keys. Ze Luis Nascimento on percussion. Marc Madore on bass. Luiz Augusto Cavani on drums. Nicolas Gueret on tenor sax. Philippe Henry on trombone. And Christophe Dutray (RIP), who left us too soon a couple of years ago, on trumpet. Sound engineer Daniel Boivin did the audio mixing. There is a whole live album to be released in the future from that magical concert. Stay tuned.

The Moody Blues’ John Lodge To Release NEW Christmas SINGLE “Love Will Conquer All” on November 15, 2024

John Lodge, legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues, and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, is to release an exciting new digital single “Love Will Conquer All” on November 15, 2024. The single will be the first from John’s new extended EP “Love Conquers All”, due for release on February 14, 2025, and the EP will be available on CD, Limited Edition 180g Violet Vinyl, and all streaming platforms.

“Love Will Conquer All” was written by John during his recent health challenges, suffering, as he put it, a ‘Christmas present he didn’t want’, a stroke. While he dealt with this personal adversity, and the immense challenge of the work involved to recover, he felt his creativity rising to create this heartwarming Christmas song. “Love Will Conquer All” is a song of love, renewal and healing, and John wanted to share it with everyone in the sincere hope that his journey might just help inspire others.

The song was written by John, and features John on vocals, lead guitar, bass guitar and acoustic guitar. Jon Davison, the singer of the progressive rock band YES, and John’s son-in-law, joins him on background vocals, provided the drums and rhythms, and also co-produced the track with John. Lead guitar is provided by Ray Nesbit, John’s Front of House Sound on tour, and also an incredible musician too. Finally, John asked his wife to join him on backing vocals, as at the heart of this song is his relationship with Kirsten, and their 56-year marriage… Love Will Conquer All.

“We all have our challenges in life, mine happened last Christmas… but like a phoenix this song appeared and helped me work through some of those difficult days. As I look forward to Christmas this year, I know it was love that got me through, and my Christmas wish for everyone is that they are surrounded with love (and great music) this year.”

The song will be released on November 15th to all streaming services, and will also be available as an instant gratification song from the accompanying EP.

The EP “Love Conquers All” will be released on February 14. 2025, and is a collection of deeply moving songs by The Moody Blues’ John Lodge. All written during difficult times yet reflecting the positive way in which John sees the world. As John explored his journey of healing, he invited different musicians to collaborate with him on each song, making each song unique, yet at the same time they all carry the same message... that love does conquer all.

“Love will Conquer All”, “Whispering Angels”, and “Sunset Over Cocohatchee Bay” were all written through personal health challenges, and “In These Crazy Times”, and “The Sun Will Shine”, originally written in lockdown, have been reimagined and remixed for 2024, reflecting how this time is now firmly in the past.

“Whispering Angels” was written by John and his son-in-law Jon Davison, of YES, and Jon features on all the tracks on the release. “Love Will Conquer All” is an almost Christmas song full of hope, plus there are guest appearances on the album by Geoff Downes of YES, Tim Maple, Dave Colquhoun, Ray Nesbit, John’s 10,000 Light Years Band, and also John’s wife, Kirsten and son, Kristian.

John will be on a short tour in the USA starting November 12th in Clarksburg, WV, and finishing November 19th in Royal Oak, MI, and is currently making plans for further dates in the USA in February and March, and if all goes to plan, dates in the UK in 2025.

The new single from British singer, songwriter, producer and prog pioneer Tim Bowness is out today. The track, titled ‘Lost/Not Lost’, is one of the standout tracks from Tim’s new album Powder Dry, set for release on 13th September on Kscope. Rockabilly Queen LINDA GAIL LEWIS Shares Her Most Personal Reflections On Her Brother JERRY LEE LEWIS’s Passing In A New Single, Announces New Studio Album!

Los Angeles, CA - Linda Gail Lewis, a veteran of the music scene and genuine rock royalty, is proud to announce her newest full-length studio album, Rockabilly Queen, set for release on July 26. Produced by rockabilly guitar icon Danny B. Harvey, the album contains a mix of original material written by Lewis as well as several hand-picked classics that Lewis and Harvey, along with Stray Cats drummer Slim Jim Phantom, deftly transform into fresh and exciting tracks.

One of the most poignant and powerful songs on the album, however, is Lewis’s heartfelt, emotional remembrance of her brother, rock legend Jerry Lee Lewis, who passed away in 2022. The song is called “I Knew That You Were Leaving,” and Linda’s story of how it came to be is deeply moving.

I woke up one morning, and while still half asleep, a terrible feeling came over me because I remembered that my big brother, Jerry Lee Lewis, was no longer with me. It had been about a year since he’d passed away and as I was thinking about how I wished I could just go see him one more time and this song came to me from out of nowhere. I immediately went to my piano to document it but every time I tried to sing it aloud I would start sobbing. It took many attempts to get the demo recorded. Even months later when I recorded this final version in the studio I’d have to stop singing at times because I’d start crying uncontrollably when thinking of all the good times we had together over the years.

There are many people who miss my brother Jerry Lee, and also many folks that miss their own departed family members as much as I miss my brother. I hope they all find comfort from my new single and video, “I Knew That You Were Leaving,” and realize we’re not alone.

This song accurately expresses how I feel about losing my brother and also how I felt when I first realized he was leaving us. This is my heartfelt personal tribute and my eternal memorial to the greatest big brother a girl could have, and one of the greatest talents to have ever lived.

Jerry Lee Lewis, I miss you dearly and constantly wish you were still here with me.  I’ll love you always, your sister, Linda Gail Lewis.

In the midst of leg one of their 2024 tour, Jon Anderson and The Band Geeks today premiere the video for the song “Shine On”, the first single from their forthcoming album “TRUE” which will be released on August 23rd. The video was filmed in New Jersey before the start of the tour and directed by Tom Flynn. The song has been performed nightly on the tour and has received universal positive response.

Additionally, the full album is available today for preorder on all DSPs and streaming services. The nine-song album was produced by Jon and Richie Castellano with the centerpiece being the 16-and-a-half-minute track “Once Upon a Dream” which will stand amongst other classic Jon penned epics such as “Close to the Edge”, “Ritual”, “Gates of Delirium”, and “Awaken”.

Los Angeles, CA – Audiences have been patiently awaiting the opportunity to catch a live performance from former-PiL innovator Jah Wobble ever since it was announced that the visionary figure and pioneering post-punk producer/multi-instrumentalist would be crossing the pond for a multi-week run on North American shores. Now that the wait is almost over, Wobble has just released an extended two-track single that offers a sumptuous taste of what’s in store for those lucky enough to score a ticket!

Recorded at the historic Lighthouse in Dorset, England, the single highlights two songs from PiL’s landmark 1979 Metal Box album, “Careering” and “No Birds (Do Sing),” which have been filtered, morphed and reinvented by Wobble and his longtime collaborator Jon Klein (Siouxsie & The Banshees/Specimen) in front of an enthralled audience. A studio version of “Careering” was featured on Wobble’s 2021 album Metal Box - Rebuilt In Dub, but as these live recordings show, Wobble’s stage performance offers an even more expansive vision of the songs, stretching them out into epic-length opuses and giving them room to breathe and grow into musical behemoths!
