Track Evaluation: The 3rd International - It Wakes, the Morning

I have worked with Andrew Pearson on some of his projects and have always been impressed with his artistic vision and the talent he brings to the table.

He just sent over this killer new track for a listen and once again he has captivated me with his music and the expressionism within it.

"It Wakes, the Morning" is live from the October 18th show at the Darress theatre. The trio is perfect to present this new offering. Guitar, bass, drums and Andrew's unique and distinctive vocals get the job done.

More About Third International:

http://www.thethirdinternational.com

Andrew: After a decade of touring I was tired and bereft of ideas. I quit. Built another career and left music, my first love, for many years. A late night phone call from my long time friend and muse, Dia Stein, brought me back. The first album of The Third International (as we were to be called) featured Ian McDonald (King Crimson, Foreigner) on woodwind, Nick DiFrisco on drums and Bill Foster (ex Billy Cobham) on bass. It was called Beautiful Accident and was the first in the trilogy. Further recordings with changing lineups were to follow: Entre Las Americas/second album in the trilogy, Chemical Eyes/single, Ides/4 song DVD compilation and Formaldehyde/single have made up the steady flow of material I have  offered my listeners.

Track Evaluation: Stolen Rhodes-Gone

Stolen Rhodes is straight ahead rock band with country and blues influences weaving through their power packed stories.

"Gone" is a great example of their total command in one track as they dish it all out for your pleasure. They are solid in the vocal department and musically sound.

If you dig rock, country or classic southern rock like Lynyrd Skynyrd or Molly Hatchet...give this band a spin because this rock candy!

MuzikMan Rating: 4.5/5

More About Stolen Rhodes:

http://www.stolenrhodes.com/

"I usually describe us as American or Americana Rock to most folks," explains Stolen Rhodes' singer/multi-instrumentalist Matt Pillion. "If folk music were turned up to eleven and included guitar solos, I think you would get in the ballpark of what we are. Our music pulls no punches, and we always speak from the heart while in verse."

Upon hearing the group's new EP, 'Slow Horse,' you're sure to agree with Pillion's assessment. Listing such renowned/respected acts as Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Pearl Jam as their main influences, the group (which also includes guitarist Kevin Cunningham, bassist Dan Haase, and drummer Eric Skye) has already garnered rave reviews from the press, including the following blurbs:

"Stolen Rhodes' songs easily could have existed in 1975; there are lots of infectious melodies, rousing choruses and juicy guitar solos." -- phillyburbs.com

"I was swept away by their romantic notions; of big dreams, endless love, and freedom. I could also get lost in the neverending choruses just as much as the guitars and drums and keys that make this album a long jam session that I didn’t want to end." -- relatemag.com

Track Evaluation: The Kut - I Want You Maniac- Halloween Single

This power trio gets down with some basic head bangin' rock just in time for Halloween. "I Want You Maniac" reminded me fondly of The Runaways and rockers like "Cherry Bomb."

Basic straight ahead rock if you are alive and well or a zombie, you will get that body in motion listening to this music!

MuzikMan Rating 4/5

More About The Kut:
"The Kut won the public vote in the MTV Brand New Unsigned Poll for 2014. This year they have been in Kerrang!, on BBC Introducing (including a live regional session), Kerrang! Radio and in the Scuzz TV Most Wanted Rock chart with their last couple of videos."

Track Evaluation: Steve Henrichs - Dawn

Steve Henrichs and his track "Dawn" is nearly five minutes of jazz fusion guitar improvisation backed by a steady rhythm section, keys and a one time whispering of a voice to make it a little more interesting.

Henrichs brings all of his talents to the table and the end result is a classic rendering of smooth jazz injected with his own personal style.

"Dawn" is the quiet storm of superb jazz guitar work and more. It is a exhibition of extraordinary talent within less than five minutes!

Track Evaluation: Order Of Thieves-Tollbooth Goddess

A new band called Order of Thieves just released a track off their upcoming album titled "Tollbooth Goddess."

Order of Thieves is Rick Habib (drums, vocals),
Bob Lord (basses, organ) and Jon McCormack (guitar, vocals) who are veterans of the music world.

"Tollbooth Goddess" comes right out of the gate swinging for a homerun with hard hitting bass, drums and fat melodic chords from the electric guitar.

The vocals are spot on and will sound fimilar to you if rock, pop or progressive rock are genres that you frequently visit.

This is a track full of energy and a steady rockin' beat that does not let up. A killer choice to give listeners a taste of what is to come!

Track Evaluation: Bill Frisell - Guitar in the Space Age-Baja

I know "Baja" has been covered by countless artists over the years but what has been done to make it special or different from the rest? Bill Frisell answers that question straight away with a superb exercise in guitar playing!

I was obsessed with surf instrumentals back in the 90s and still enjoy hearing them to this day.

Frisell captures the spirit and warmth of "Baja" beautifully. Have a listen and tell us what you think?

Featured Track: Stone Ticket-Black

Stone Ticket and the voice of Vince Quinn packs one powerful punch! I loved the drive and energy "Black" has. Its juggernaut bass and drums and the hard rocking rhythmic guitar are hard to resist. Putting rhythm and such a hard rockin' sound together does not always work, it does here! I wouldn't change a thing on this track, simply put, its killer! It is Rock influenced by Blues and you can't beat it. If you dig bone crunching rock with tough vocals to match jump aboard this train!

"Mojo Hand" is a smokin' hot track from the late great Johnny Winter! With Joe Perry of Aerosmith adding his licks its like an all star meet and greet with blues rock.

Track Evaluation: Dave 'Knife" Fabris-Michelangelo

On the new album from Dave "Knife" Fabris titled Lettuce Prey (Great Winds/Musea 3169) we get a taste of the musical garden of delights he has to offer.

The track "Michelangelo" combines jazz and rock to make a great fusion of sounds and textures. Fabris mans the guitars and bass while Steve Chaggaris sits behind the drum kit. The two sound like a perpetual motion machine, giving every ounce of energy they can muster to present the song.

This is a fantastic display of top notch musicianship!

Track Evaluation: Into Orbit-Corridors... Caverns

If you are looking for a sound that will help you leave the planet for awhile, or get Into Orbit...then check out "Corridors...Caverns."

Their instrumental soundscapes will take you away. The guitars and drums build and build until its ready for take off then subside and go through the same process again. 9 minutes and 34 seconds of instrumental wonder!

Track Evaluation: Witch Charmer-Suffer

I couldn't say it better than the record label! "Suffer" is a great track that puts people on notice that Witch Charmer has arrived! I enjoyed the pace of this track and vocal interplay as well.

MuzikMan Rating: 4/5

Quote From Argonauta Records:

After the great feedback received across the board for their debut E.P. “Euphoric Curse“, Sunderland (UK) based Stoner/Doom/Metal outfit WITCH CHARMER follow it up with their first full length record raising the bar on what came before. The band (featuring the talents of Kate McKeown - Vocals, Dave McQuillan - Drums & Vocals, Len Lennox - Guitar & Vocals, Adam Clarke - Guitar & Vocals, Richard Maher – Bass) expands on the sound from their previous release and add a monolithic slab of smoked out doom and groove to take you on a satirical journey to enlightenment. "The Great Depression" CD and Digital is available on Sept 1st on Argonauta Records.

Track Evaluation: Kim Halliday- Drift

Kim Halliday's "Drift" really fits the title well. The music starts of with a steady beat and an almost surf/spy like guitar line. Then ambient swooshing sounds comes in and keyboards followed by bass and drums then more poignant guitar lines. It really does have the ability to let you "Drift." A great instrumental track movie ready!

Track Evaluation: Eric Kamen-Lost Tribe

"The Lost Tribe" is an instrumental guitar track that builds steadily. Eric Kamen adds his beats to a world flamenco guitar sound.

The bass is very strong backing the guitar and it actually provides a platform for the rest of the track to follow and develop.
A very unique and enjoyable sound!
