Bay Area Songstress Drea. M Releases New Video, “Timebomb,” About Personal Freedom and Empowerment

San Francisco – Drea. M commands the heart to listen. Soulful grit, haunting vocals, and mesmerizing live performances make this Bay Area songstress a must-hear sonic treat. With gutsy, raw emotion at the core of her songs, Drea. M does not compromise on the other elements of songwriting. Her lyrics are sophisticated, provocative, and expressed in unique cadences and layers, creating an unusual sonic quality, both edgy and refined. From multi-instrumental acoustic arrangements on her first album, Surrender (released under the name “Drea Muldavin”), to the more recent incorporation of electronic, orchestral, big-sound beats (such as her “Timebomb” single), Drea. M's style is ever-expanding, teasing her music into new realms. No matter the direction her songs take, what continues to drive her music is a haunting, atmospheric, and intricately textured sound, and an unwavering honesty about what it means to be profoundly alive. Drea. M has recently filmed a new video in support of her latest single, “Timebomb.”

Says Drea. M, “The 'Timebomb' video is about finding personal freedom and empowerment by breaking free of the ways we hold ourselves back. It’s about surfing emotional edges in spite of that pit in the stomach, and then jumping... I wrote the song at a time when I felt a sense of 'now or never,' a sense of great urgency, and I immediately conceptualized the shibari rope work because I wanted to exemplify being held, bound, and suspended in time, right at that moment when we want nothing more than to be free of all that has held us back for so long. In that sense, both the song and the video are about that wild, igniting energy that contains itself just short of explosion, and how we can find empowerment and clarity -- even moments of ecstasy -- in that restraint.”

“Drea. M's voice captures your ear with a familiar, soft lushness. You immediately trust its honesty. In the video for her song, 'Timebomb,' we see her bite her teeth into the constricting rope that binds her, an image that perfectly complements the sensuality of the song. Drea.M's voice carries secrets - the ones you typically only hear whispered - and she shares them with full-throated abandon without ever losing her mysterious edge.” - Zaron Burnett III, Sex & Culture writer for Playboy.com

Watch Drea. M's “Timebomb” video here:

After a very successful Indiegogo campaign, Drea. M shot the video in the course of two full nights at American Steel Studios in Oakland. The crew included LP Satsuki Murashige and Producer Dimitri Moore. Because she had a relatively short timeframe within which to shoot the video, the energy was intense and focused, and much like the concept behind the video, aspects of the performance were physically and psychologically challenging, pushing Drea. M to the edge of her comfort zone. She explains, “One example of this was when I chose to be tied up and suspended in order to sing in an upside-down, full-harness shibari rope suspension. While this shot enters the video for just a short period, a lot of time, communication, and safety awareness went into the preparation for this shot. The intensity of the moment -- when I began to sing while suspended upside-down, knowing I had very little time to capture the lines while in such a restrictive harness -- lent itself to the energy of the performance. It was a total rush for me...frightening, exciting, and liberating all at once.”

Drea. M will be releasing her new EP December 1st, and having the CD release at Awaken Café in Oakland, CA on Dec 3rd, 2015. Says Drea. M, “It is a true honor to be co-producing the album with David Earl -- an incredible composer, producer, and collaborator who understands where I am taking my sound and cherishes musical exploration. I am very excited about this new body of work! After the CD release in December, the plan is to do a Pacific Northwest tour, play some other cities across the country, and then do a European tour.”

In closing Drea. M says, “What I wish to convey to my fans through my music is what I try to keep in mind every day, as a mantra of sorts: never give up on yourself, especially when you are just about to, and always push your boundaries, especially when you most feel like hiding in the safety zone. My own journey with music and performance has been a long and winding trajectory, and the path is never paved ahead of time. Songwriting and performing one's innermost thoughts, fears, and desires is all about edge-surfing -- finding those emotional cliffs and staying there, and I believe we should live our lives on those edges as much as we can. Why? Because empathy is the most powerful tool we have, and what keeps us from engaging our empathy to the fullest is our fear of feeling intensely. Music that taps into the universality of emotion allows people to feel deeply, and to then move through the world with more awareness, compassion, and capacity for connection with others. That’s what music is ultimately about...connection.”

Singer / Songwriter Pete Kronowitt Releases Live Video For New Single Politically Charged "Change Is Gonna Come"

San Francisco, CA - San Francisco-based singer / songwriter Pete Kronowitt has released a video performance for his new politically charged song, "Change is Gonna Come," recorded live from the Cafe du Soleil in Lower Haight. The hopeful anthem was inspired both by the legends of American folk, as well as today's struggle for justice and equity. Pete co-wrote the song with Atlanta-based Chuck McDowell at a recent songwriting retreat in Crisfield, Maryland.

"Change is Gonna Come" is the most recent release from Kronowitt, an upbeat blend of The Lumineers and Bruce Springsteen channeling Woody Guthrie. With lyrics inspired by the most recent interview of social rights heroine Malala Yousafzai on Jon Stewart's The Daily Show, the song celebrates stories of strength, courage and action.

"Fifteen years in, this 21st century has been contentious and divisive: two wars, bitter elections leading to unproductive partisanship, and increasing economic disparity. The media and politicians believe dividing us is in their interest, "said Kronowitt, introducing the song on YouTube. "But I remain hopeful, because every now and then some person is faced with a decision, regardless of personal risk, takes the path which has a profound impact. That's what this song is about."

About Pete Kronowitt:
Pete's first album, "Phases of the Heart" recorded in 1993 has a universal appeal covering themes from family and heartbreak, to societal struggles; his music is an emotive fusion of acoustic pop and indie folk. Pete’s first album was recorded and produced by John Alagia, of Dave Matthews Band, Jon Mayer, and Ben Folds Five fame. Pete’s second album, “Threads,” was produced by Pete Snell, who toured extensively with Lyle Lovett. Pete's albums, including his more recent releases, "elements" and "Threads" are available on iTunes and streaming from Spotify and other major music services.

What Critics Are Saying About Pete Kronowitt:

"There is a tremendous comparison available here in Kronowitt's case, in Which Kronowitt sets eirself to be the inheritor of the mantle Elvis Costello." - JMcQ, neufutur.com

"Sounds sincere and you can feel the drive for merit and love in his voice." - Erika Ellis, thecelebritycafe.com

Pete has toured extensively throughout the United States and Asia, on his own and with collaborator and long-time friend, bassist John Coppola.

Italian Rock Ensemble The Mugshots Release New Single “Frozen” Featuring Clive Jones From Legendary Black Widow!

“I am very proud of this music and of The Mugshots for their tenacity and terrific talent!” - Dick Wagner

Brescia, Italy - Gcm Music & Alka Records proudly present “Frozen”, the new single by The Mugshots; the first European band ever produced by legendary Dick Wagner. The song is a very personal cover of a famous Madonna's masterpiece and features (unfortunately his last work) Clive Jones on sax and flute, from the legendary English band Black Widow - the first group to introduce occult themes in Rock music. Mastering has been accomplished par excellence by Dr. Gil Markle, long time collaborator of Dick Wagner, who has also worked with Aerosmith, Stevie Wonder and The Rolling Stones, just to name a few.

Says lead vocalist Mickey E. Vil ,“Working on 'Frozen' has been a unique human and artistic experience. Clive Jones knew this would have been his final work and, as his life faded away, he channeled all of his vital energy into his flute and saxophone to add the song an ethereal dimension.”

The Mugshots are an Italian rock group who's influences are primarily Alice Cooper, along with The Stranglers and The Misfits. The quintet from Brescia have already released two albums and several EPs. Though based in Italy, The Mugshots were born in New York City in 2001 when lead singer, Mickey E. Vil, visiting the United States, chose the band's name after listening to an Alice Cooper record (“DaDa”, 1983). As their name would suggest, dark crime stories have infused the band's lyrics from the very beginning. As the Mugshots’ line-up was developing over the next few years, the band released two full-length albums, “House Of The Weirdos” and “Weird Theater” plus an EP, titled “Doctor Is Out”. Then in 2009, the band's present line up was consolidated. In 2010, The Mugshots released a limited edition EP titled “In Disguise” through an independent Italian record label. This EP was made available on both red vinyl and CD and garnered enthusiastic reviews around the world.

In 2012, The Mugshots teamed up with the legendary Dick Wagner, producer and guitarist for such great rock icons as Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, Kiss, Aerosmith, Peter Gabriel, Ray Manzarek and Mark Farner among others. This collaboration resulted in another EP titled “Love, Lust and Revenge” on which Wagner arranged, co-wrote and played lead guitars. Dick Wagner sadly passed away in July 2014, making this EP one of his last productions.

“A perfect European/American mixture of Rock sensibilities and mystery that is worldly and unearthly at the same time. I am very proud of this music and of The Mugshots for their tenacity and terrific talent!” - Dick Wagner

Throughout their career, The Mugshots have shared the stage with The Stranglers, The Damned, UK Subs, Hugh Cornwell, Dick Wagner, Brian James, TV Smith, Eddie And The Hot Rods, Baz Warne, The Lords Of Altamont, Demented Are Go, Koffin Kats, Zombina & The Skeletones, among many others.

“I made the decision: Mute the TV and put on my new favorite band, The Mugshots. And it hit me...like a steam train...like a gang-fight, like an atomic bomb - I was bruised, beaten and pummeled by the incandescent brilliance of The Mugshots!” - Matt Malley, Oscar nominated songwriter and founding member of Counting Crows

“A mix of Pop & Rock perfectly balanced and held together by great keyboards and melodic vocals!” - Clive Jones, Black Widow, Agony Bag

“I would say regardless of Genre the sound is brutally bombastic, rude, crass, and altogether beautiful. Definitely worth nabbing for fans of energetic and bizarre music.” - Fangoria Magazine

Granddaughter of Legendary Dionne Warwick, Cheyenne Elliott to Release Narada Michael Walden Produced Singles and an EP in 2015

New York, NY – A brand new star has appeared on the US music scene; her name is Cheyenne Elliott. Cheyenne is the granddaughter of iconic singer Dionne Warwick, and a cousin of the late superstar Whitney Houston. In early 2014, producer Narada Michael Walden discovered her exemplary vocal talent and invited her out to Tarpan Studios in San Rafael, California, where Whitney, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey and many other artists recorded some of their biggest hits. The young New Yorker was signed to Narada’s Tarpan Records. She will initially release a string of dance music mixes in the winter of 2014-15. Her debut EP is slated for release in early 2015.

Cheyenne’s talent was recognized at the tender age of 9 years old, at which time she started singing in public. Her grandmother, Dionne Warwick, called her to the stage to sing during a performance of her massive worldwide hit “That’s What Friends Are For” in Coney Island, New York. Even as a child she wowed the audience. Cheyenne learned her craft and drew innately from being born into a family of music royalty, including her grandmother, her father David Elliott - who co-wrote Luther Vandross’ massive hit “Here and Now,” and her late superstar cousin Whitney Houston. Dionne would play an instrumental role in Cheyenne’s development as a performer.

By the time Cheyenne was 10 years old, she demonstrated her immense talent while visiting recording studios in the Los Angeles area. She made subsequent appearances with Dionne at renowned venues throughout her youth. The audience’s appreciation of her vocal prowess led to summers traveling with her “Grammy,” performing in dozens of countries all around the world. She made a very special appearance celebrating Dionne’s 45th anniversary of recording at the Hollywood Palladium. Another performance honor included her Carnegie Hall debut at age 12, opening for legendary singer Gladys Knight. At 12 years old, Cheyenne also appeared on Dionne’s My Friends & Me album. She lent her vocals to a duet entitled “Love Will Find A Way,” a song that Dionne had previously recorded with Whitney. Cheyenne later joined Dionne, David, Whitney, Cissy Houston, Dee Dee Warwick, Bobbi Kristina Brown, Felicia Moss and others from the family on the recording of “Family First,” which appeared in the Tyler Perry movie Daddy’s Little Girls.

Cheyenne is following in the socially conscious footsteps of her grandmother, whose 1985 charitable recording of “That’s What Friends Are For” raised awareness and funds all over the world to help people suffering from the plight of AIDS. Cheyenne is featured on Dionne’s brand new release, Feels So Good. Narada produced a touching duet of the dynamic grandmother and granddaughter, entitled “Let There Be Love”.

The song happens to be written by Narada along with Shannon Rubicam & George Merrill, who wrote two of Whitney’s biggest hit songs: “How Will I Know” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me).” On the Feels So Good album, she joins the company of other luminaries such as Gladys Knight, Cyndi Lauper, Ne-Yo, Cee Lo Green, Jamie Foxx, Billy Ray Cyrus and many other greats.

Tarpan Records, in association with dance music powerhouse Dauman Records, is releasing a series of dance mixes of Cheyenne’s song “With You”. “With You,” which she co-wrote, is intentionally reminiscent of the classic disco era. The mixes are destined to heat up dance floors throughout the winter of 2014-15.

Cheyenne will be making many appearances over the next few months, including some major performances with Dionne Warwick in support of Feels So Good and their duet “Let There Be Love.” Cheyenne currently performs in nightclubs in and around New York City fine-tuning her craft, most often including Ashford & Simpson’s Sugar Bar.

Legendary YES Singer/Songwriter Jon Anderson and Counting Crows Matt Malley To Release Charity Single “The Family Circle”

London, UK - GONZO Multimedia is proud to announce the release of a new charity single “The Family Circle” by legendary YES vocalist/songwriter Jon Anderson and former Counting Crows bassist Matt Malley. The money received from the single will go to the following charities: Flutie Foundation - www.flutiefoundation.org (Jon Anderson), Sahaja Yoga Meditation - www.sahajayoga.org (Matt Malley) and National Autistic Society (Rob Ayling, GONZO Multimedia president)

“ 'Family Circle' came together when Matt sent me the beautiful music earlier this year. I sang the song and lyric idea and sent it back to Matt, thanking him for the great energy. Eventually, Matt added some more sounds and the haunting guitar solo. We decided to have all sale proceeds go to our respective charities. It's a pleasure to release this around Thanksgiving time, reminding us of our connection with our families and how our children keep us together, bonding our love of life.” - Jon Anderson

“Not only am I a fan of Jon's voice but I’m a fan of his fearless spiritual outlook which appears in all of his music. A mutual friend said we should meet and got us in touch and after talking a little, Jon said, 'So send some music!' - so I had a cup of my best Darjeeling tea, went into my studio and came up with the instrumental arrangement that you hear on 'Family Circle'. I sent the file up to Jon and it came back with his marvelous voice, lyrics…everything that brought the song to becoming fully realized.” - Matt Malley

Jon Anderson is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable voices in progressive rock as the original lead vocalist and creative force behind YES. Anderson was the author and a major creative influence behind the ground-breaking album 'Fragile' as well as the series of epic, complex pieces such as “Awaken”, “Gates of Delirium” and especially “Close to the Edge” which were central to the band's success. Additionally, Anderson co-authored the group's biggest hits, including “I've Seen All Good People”, “Roundabout”, and “Owner of a Lonely Heart”. In addition, Jon Anderson had great success with a series of albums he did with Vangelis, and most recently released the critically-acclaimed solo album entitled “Survival and Other Stories” (GONZO Multimedia). In the fall of 2014 Jon Anderson teamed up with jazz violin legend Jean-Luc Ponty to form the AndersonPonty Band.

Matt Malley is an Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe nominated songwriter who is best known for co-founding the multi-platinum selling rock band Counting Crows back in the early 90's. He appears as bassist on their biggest hit records and songs. In 2004 Matt retired from the band so he could work from his studio at home and be with his family. He is a student of the Indian Slide Guitar and a fan of Progressive Rock, Celtic Folk, World and Indian Music.

Australian Prog Artist Ben Craven To Release New Single Through Innovative Music Delivery System 'TuneLeak'

“Seriously well-distilled and blended” - Van Dyke Parks

Brisbane, Australia – Much to the excitement of prog music aficionados across the planet, Australian cinematic progressive-rock singer-songwriter Ben Craven is releasing his new single through an innovative new music delivery system he's developed called 'TuneLeak'. Ben Craven's new single titled “Critical Mass Part 2” is now available through TuneLeak at http://www.tuneleak.com.

Ben explains, “This project is being driven by music industry commentators saying the album is dead. I agree it's an endangered species, at least commercially. As a musician and a listener, I'm very attached to the concept of albums as coherent collections of songs and all the emotional ties we make with them. So for this album I'm trying a different business model - which I'm calling 'TuneLeak' - where I can engage the audience at every step of the recording process, officially 'leak' songs well before they're finished, and hopefully even get paid!”

The new single is part of Craven's highly anticipated forthcoming third album tentatively titled 'Last Chance To Hear'. Says Ben, “'Critical Mass Part 2' is the first song I've recorded for the album, and the first track I'm putting out there on the TuneLeak website. It's a short, sharp instrumental, and sounds like outer-space spy music. There is of course a 'Part 1' and I'll be leaking that track very soon as well!”

Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, immersed as a toddler in the era of big prog rock, Craven taught himself guitar and keyboards and joined a series of bands. None of them remotely played the kind of music that had been burned into his mainframe as a kid. Nonetheless, the songs he wrote accumulated steadily. In 2005, Craven dispensed entirely with the band approach and recorded his debut album, 'Two False Idols' under the name of Tunisia. The result was a work of incredible maturity, with influences ranging from Pink Floyd and Brian Wilson to the likes of Bernard Herrmann and John Barry.

Says Ben, “My usual suspect influences are Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, Yes and King Crimson. But just as important are composers like Bernard Herrmann, John Barry, Henry Mancini and John Williams. I seem to blend progressive music with film soundtrack elements. I'm also a Brian Wilson tragic.”

As Craven worked his first album it became painfully obvious that the music business was in the midst of a sea change, and most of the old guard didn’t seem to realise they were the cause. Very quickly he took an anti-DRM stance and released the live acoustic EP 'Under Deconstruction' as a high-quality free download.

Craven stepped up a gear for his sophomore album, 'Great & Terrible Potions'. Delivering on the cinematic promise of 'Two False Idols', 'Potions' went widescreen (literally) as Craven blurred the boundaries between conventional songs and orchestral soundtracks. Augmented by a stunning cover designed by legendary artist Roger Dean (Yes, Uriah Heep, Asia), 'Potions' was dense, complicated and unashamedly pretentious – everything a good prog rock album should be! Or, to put it another way, Craven sounded exactly like someone revelling in the creative freedom that could come only from not worrying about what others wanted, and delivering what he felt instead.

And now Ben is working on his latest masterpiece! He explains, “In keeping with the idea of the album as an endangered species, the working title is 'Last Chance To Hear'. It's shaping up to be another solo album in the true sense of the word where I play just about everything, like on my previous album 'Great & Terrible Potions'. The difference this time is a much greater portion will likely be instrumental. Not that I dislike vocals, but sometimes the music can be strong and emotional and moving enough to stand on its own without them.”

Here's what the press raved about Ben Craven's previous release:

“Heavy-duty prog rock monster” - Anil Prasad, Innerviews

“Cracking virtuoso performance by an absurdly talented individual” - Classic Rock Society

“Craven’s one-man-band production is a prog opus for the 21st century” - Musoscribe

“All the drama, thunder, strum and drang you could want the spiritual grand child of Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson to bring” - Midwest Record

“Craven’s tremendous ability to combine memorable hooks with complex progressive rock and cinematic orchestral music is astounding” - Sea Of Tranquility

“Press play and this album does the rest” - Muzikreviews

In closing Ben has this to impart to his fans and listeners, “The music business is becoming an increasingly cynical place. The landscape is dominated by reissues, remixes and repacking of old material in what feels like a 'last hurrah'. But there are still true believers out there flying under the radar and producing music primarily out of love and obsession. Not because of contractual obligations, deadlines or other market forces. I'd still be making music if the industry was truly dead and buried. But I'd much rather people listened to it!”

The TuneLeak Manifesto

TuneLeak is a different approach for releasing music. It’s like getting to know someone gradually over a meaningful period of time, rather than telling them you love them on the first date. Most importantly, it’s about albums. That is, TuneLeak features albums as they’re being recorded.

As each individual song is worked on, the artist will “leak” an early version. It might just be a rough demo. Or it could be almost complete. It will probably sound different when the album is finished. But it will be out there for all to hear.

These leaked tracks (“TuneLeaks”!) will be available for purchase as digital downloads. When the album is finally released, TuneLeak customers will receive a discount equal to the total amount they spent on purchasing the leaked tracks from that album. So, if you download, say, five “TuneLeaks” from a particular artist at $1 per track, you’ll receive a $5 discount on the album. You won’t pay twice for the same song.

It’s not quite crowdfunding. It’s not quite pre-ordering. It’s artists and audiences coming together on the creative journey of making an album.

Rock Review: Andrew Pearson Third International-Formaldehyde (Single)

Release Date: January 28, 2014
Label: Boosh Music

“Formaldehyde” is the new single from Andrew Pearson Third International, formerly Third International and not to be confused with any kind of revolution (look up your history).

This one off single follows the DVD IDES and precedes the upcoming live album that will be out in a few months. It’s a taste if you will of the Pearson musical oeuvre.

Once again Pearson creates a great rock sound with prolific lyrics espousing the human condition. The suggestion is that we are our own worst enemy, like superman’s kryptonite we serve up our own “Formaldehyde” and can literally destroy our own self-image with doubts creeping in to beg the question “are you good enough?” As a creative individual I can totally relate to that and how you can torture the core of one’s being with negative thoughts and things manufactured in your mind only.

This verse puts it all into proper perspective:

In measured steps we fall from grace
As we trip the light fantastic race
Never seemed so out of place
If I could only save some face
Maybe leave something behind

Yes Pearson you have done it again, this time with singularity of purpose through one track. “Formaldehyde” will rock your soul in more ways than one. Per usual the instrumentation is exceptional with Andrew’s piercing guitar lines and expressive vocal style. One song, one voice, one purpose.

4/5 Stars
