Blood, Sweat & Tears Critically Acclaimed Debut Album 'Child Is Father To The Man' To Be Reissued On 5.1 Multichannel Hybrid SACD By Audio Fidelity

"A brilliant work...Al Kooper's finest!"

Camarillo, CA - Exploding onto the scene as a band determined only to expand the boundaries of popular music, Blood, Sweat & Tears immediately made their mark as virtuoso players with an important vision and statement. Calling on Rock, R&B, Jazz and even Classical influences, the band, led by Al Kooper, made what remains one of the truly inspired, groundbreaking records of the late '60s. Now much to the excitement of BS&T and Al Kooper fans worldwide, Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity is reissuing the band's critically acclaimed debut album 'Child Is Father To The Man' on 5.1 Multichannel Hybrid SACD!

The album, released in 1968, introduced the idea of the big band to rock and roll and paved the way for such groups as Chicago. 'Child Is Father To The Man' peaked at #47 on Billboard's chart. “I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know” and “I Can't Quit Her” generated airplay on progressive rock radio.

This is the sound of a group of virtuosos enjoying itself in the newly open possibilities of pop music... the eclectic post-Sgt. Pepper era, a time when you could borrow styles from Greenwich Village contemporary folk to San Francisco acid rock and mix them into what seemed to have the potential to become a new American musical form.

Eric Clapton's 'Pilgrim' Album To Be Release on Limited Numbered Edition Hybrid SACD

“An Inspiring Masterpiece From The Guitar God - an essential to the Clapton library!”

Camarillo, CA – Adding to the series of Eric Clapton reissues, Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity will be releasing Clapton's 1998 album 'Pilgrim' on Limited Numbered Edition Hybrid SACD! From the song titles “River of Tears,” “Broken Hearted,” “Going Down Slow,” “Sick and Tired” on down, 'Pilgrim' is the musical journal of an artist who has wandered into some dark places and come back the wiser for his troubles. 1998's 'Pilgrim' is the 13th studio album by Eric Clapton, it was his first album of original material since 1989's 'Journeyman' (also recently reissued on Hybrid SACD by Audio Fidelity).

The album is an intriguing musical tableau that experiments with drum machines and synthesized dashes of electronica and an inventive use of strings, performed by the London Session Orchestra, reminiscent of old-school R&B. There is wonderful, graceful guitar work throughout 'Pilgrim', Clapton provides some great hooks and emotional melodies. The best songs on this eloquent album of orchestrated blues meditations express a choked-up grief and despair. The songwriting is the standout feature of this album. Clapton wrote in his autobiography that he wanted to make the “saddest album.” He wrote or co-wrote every song except “Born in Time,” an overlooked Bob Dylan tune, and “Going Down Slow,” a classic blues written by St. Louis Jimmy. In two songs, “My Father's Eyes” and “Circus,” Clapton alludes to the tragic death of his 4-year-old son. The songs are very moving with more complicated melodies and in depth lyrics. Clapton's emphasis is placed on the entire arrangement instead of being built around a jam session.

Eric's voice has never sounded better, his singing is raw and passionate, much of the music is informed by smooth R&B textures. On the album's sizzling title track, he evokes some of the soulful eloquence of the great Curtis Mayfield. Clapton's vocals are among the most convincing of his career. 'Pilgrim' is an atmospheric album whose mood is mostly melancholy. Unbearable loss and yearning are the central themes of 'Pilgrim', and with its heartbeat bass lines, melodic, meditative guitar figures and heartbreaking lyrics, it offers moments of pure beauty.

“...another evolutionary step from an always rebellious and ever-changing artist.”

The album produced multi-platinum sales and appeared on the year-end Top 100 lists of countries all around the world.

Camarillo, CA - Jazz fans worldwide are buzzing with excitement over the release of 'Breezin' by legendary jazz singer and guitarist George Benson on Multichannel 5.1-Surround Sound Hybrid SACD from Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity. George Benson's 'Breezin' is the best-selling jazz album of all time. It is a true virtuoso performance: a four-time Grammy nominee and two-time winner, the first album by a jazz artist to earn platinum certification.

Produced by Tommy Lipuma, Breezin' features Benson with keyboardists Ronnie Foster and Jorge Dalto, rhythm guitarist Phil Upchurch, drummer Harvey Mason, bass player Stanley Banks and percussionist Ralph MacDonald.

Leon Russell's “This Masquerade” (the first song in music history to occupy the #1 spot in jazz, pop and R&B charts), featuring Benson's soulful vocal and his trademark guitar-voice scatting technique, is the album's only non-instrumental. The other numbers include Bobby Womack's title song, the winner of Grammies for Record of the Year and Best Pop Instrumental.

Audio Fidelity To Release 5.1 Multichannel Hybrid SACD of Mike Bloomfield - Al Kooper - Steve Stills 'Super Session' Album Mixed By Legendary Al Kooper!

"...one of those albums that seems to get better with age...a super session indeed!"

Camarillo, CA – Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity will be releasing a limited numbered edition 5.1 Multichannel Hybrid SACD of the legendary Mike Bloomfield - Al Kooper - Steve Stills 'Super Session' album! Al Kooper was an A&R executive with Columbia Records in the early 1960's after leaving the group Blood, Sweat & Tears. The Super Session album was conceived as a jam session with Kooper on keyboards and former Paul Butterfield Blues Band member Mike Bloomfield on lead guitar along with veteran studio musician and Wrecking Crew member "Fast" Eddie Hoh on drums and Barry Goldberg, also on keyboards. Bloomfield was available during the first day of recording for Side 1 of the LP (tracks 1-5). For the second day of recording, Kooper brought in former Buffalo Springfield guitarist Steven Stills to perform on the music that became Side 2 of the LP (tracks 6-9). Recorded on a shoestring budget over a 2-day period in Los Angeles, Super Session went on to become a rock classic and earned the trio a gold record for sales of over one million copies.

"I always wanted to mix this in 5.1. I finished it in 2006, and it's been sitting there until Audio Fidelity released it from captivity. It's the first album I ever mixed in 5.1 I hope everyone enjoys it. Surround Sound allows the listener to get up close to each musician and hear details you can't hear in stereo. Hope ya like details - I DO!" - Al Kooper

The package includes new liner notes written by Al Kooper that tells the story of the Super Session album and the new 5.1 Multichannel mix. The 5.1 mix by Al Kooper with mastering by Bob Ludwig was never released and yet it has acquired some fame from industry insiders familiar with the Multichannel mix with comments like "excellent" and "it deserves to be heard." Audio Fidelity To Release Renaissance's Legendary Prog Album 'Scheherazade and other stories' On Limited Numbered Hybrid SACD

"One of the signature albums of 1970's progressive rock!"

Camarillo, CA - Prog fans worldwide are buzzing with excitement over the forthcoming release of Renaissance's legendary Prog album 'Scheherazade and other stories' by Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity on limited numbered Hybrid SACD. 1975's 'Scheherazade and other stories' is a beautifully crafted album, expertly sung and played by Renaissance. The recording is filled with lush, orchestral progressive pop-rock and considered by many music critics to be their best album. Unlike other prog-rock groups, Renaissance eschewed much of the technology in favor of acoustic instruments and orchestral arrangements. Electric guitars and synthesizers were seldom used, giving the band's music more of a symphonic sweep.

"The group's magnum opus - The music is absolutely stunning!"

Renaissance is a band that went through various permutations, the best known being the line up featured here and they shine throughout the album: Annie Haslam's soaring, pure vocals, John Tout's considerable piano prowess, Jon Camp's imaginative bass, Michael Dunford on guitar and Terence Sullivan on drums.

The work is unique because it represents a rare example of musical collaboration between Dunford and the rest of the group. Dunford and lyricist Betty Thatcher wrote the three vocal sections, keyboard player John Tout wrote the opening fanfare and fugue sections, with bass player Jon Camp working with Dunford and Tout on the other sections. The orchestrations were arranged by Tony Cox.

There are only four pieces on the album: "Trip To The Fair" is a heavenly 11-minute dreamscape. "The Vultures Fly High" is a short but very effective prog-rocker. "Ocean Gypsy" is a gorgeous song, and one of the band's all-time classics. And then, of course, there's the 25-minute, nine-part epic, "Song Of Scheherazade," one of the highlights of rock history featuring the prog icon's unique interpretation of the Scheherazade legend accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra and a chorus. The classical tale is told about the Sultan and the magical woman, Scheherazade, who ultimately wins his heart.

Aficionados of classical music will also appreciate the album.

TRACKS:
1-Trip to the Fair - 10:51
2-The Vultures Fly High - 3:04
3-Ocean Gypsy - 7:05
4-Song of Scheherazade - 24:39

i. Fanfare
ii. The Betrayal
iii. The Sultan
iv. Love Theme
v. The Young Prince and Princess
   as told by Scheherazade
vi. Festival Preparations
vii. Fugue for the Sultan

Rush's Legendary 'Presto' Album To Be Released On Limited Numbered Edition Hybrid SACD

“...arguably Rush's most original effort ever!”

Camarillo, CA - Rush fans rejoice! Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity will be reissuing Rush's legendary 'Presto' album on limited numbered edition Hybrid SACD! Rush were never a band known to play the same sort of thing for any extended period, they often pushed the boundaries of rock and their formidable list of albums helped to bring prog to a wider audience. By 1989 a change was inevitable and with their 13th studio album, 'Presto', it was a change for the good. 'Presto' marked the beginning of a transition period, moving away from a sound dominated by synthesizers and toward more traditional rock instrumentation. The synths were toned back while the guitars were brought up to a reasonable level allowing the emphasis to return to the rhythm instruments, resurrecting the groove that Rush maintains so very well.

“A creative rebirth - producing a groove that's positively infectious.”

Geddy Lee and Neal Peart are in good form, but Alex Lifeson is the real story, he can be heard in grand force and even pulls out the acoustic guitar. Lifeson’s leads in “Superconductor” are brilliant, Geddy Lee does great solo work on “Show Don't Tell” and Peart’s percussion on “Scars” features a complex tribal rhythm drum pattern in which both acoustic and electronic drums are utilized - a synthesis of the two that's accessible without compromising. Each of these tracks, along with “The Pass,” reached the top of the Album Rock Tracks charts with “Show Don't Tell” hitting #1. 'Presto' climbed to #16 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart.

Rush made a stab at greatness with 'Presto' and Rupert Hine's deft production had much to do with its success.

Tracks
1. Show Don't Tell
2. Chain Lightning
3. The Pass

Styx 'Paradise Theater' Album To Be Released On Limited Numbered Hybrid SACD!

“Styx's high-water mark...one of the greatest albums in rock history.”

Camarillo, CA - Styx fans rejoice with the release of the band's critically acclaimed album 'Paradise Theater' on limited numbered Hybrid SACD by Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity. Styx's 10th album, the 1981 release 'Paradise Theater' was the band's fourth consecutive triple-platinum album. A resounding success, 'Paradise Theater' was their greatest commercial triumph and their only #1 album. It remains one of the best examples of the convergence between progressive rock and AOR which typified the arena rock sound of the top groups of the late-seventies and early-eighties such as Journey, REO Speedwagon, Cheap Trick and Kansas.

Styx was a great group of talented musicians - Dennis DeYoung, Tommy Shaw, James Young, Chuck Panozzo and John Panozzo. The album included three Billboard Hot 100 hits, “The Best of Times,” “Nothing Ever Goes As Planned” and “Too Much Time on My Hands” considered among Tommy Shaw's finest singles ever. Another track, “Rockin' The Paradise” reached #8 on the Top Rock Track Chart.

The concept album is a fictional account of Chicago's Paradise Theatre from its opening to closing, used as a metaphor for America's changing times from the late 1970s into the 1980s.

Eric Clapton's 'Journeyman' Album Feat. George Harrison, Chaka Khan, Daryl Hall, Robert Cray, Phil Collins and others Now Available On Hybrid SACD

“...one of the greatest rock/blues guitarists on the planet!”

Camarillo, CA - Much to the elation of Eric Clapton fans across the globe, Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity has released Clapton's 'Journeyman' album as a limited numbered edition Hybrid SACD! Eric Clapton is a true legend. 'Journeyman' reached #16 on the Billboard album chart and became Clapton's first solo studio album to go double platinum. Like any of his best albums, there is no grandstanding to be found on 'Journeyman'...it's simply a laid-back and thoroughly engaging display of his virtuosity. The album was heralded as a return to form for Clapton, much of it has an electronic sound, mostly influenced by the 1980s rock scene, but it also includes blues songs like “Before You Accuse Me,” “Running on Faith,” and “Hard Times.”

“At the center of it all is Clapton's guitar work...stinging blues and soaring pop.”

There is an all-star assembly of guests: Dire Straits keyboardist Alan Clark, George Harrison, Chaka Khan, Daryl Hall, Robert Cray, Cecil and Linda Womack, Phil Collins and Gary Burton. Among the highlights are several cuts that feature slide-versus-slowhand guitar dueling with Cray. George Harrison is particularly impressive on his little masterpiece “Run So Far,” playing guitar and singing harmony vocals.

A couple of tracks rank among Clapton's best from any decade. The strongest commercial single is “Bad Love,” which won the 1990 Best Male Rock Vocal Performance Grammy Award, and reached the No. 1 position on the Album Rock Chart. “Pretending” is a firm mid-tempo rocker that also reached the No. 1 position on the Album Rock Chart and and includes one of his most assured vocal performances ever.

Clapton sounds more convincing than he had since the early '70s. Not only is his guitar playing muscular and forceful, his singing is soulful and gritty - he seems to have struck the perfect balance between the fiery blues of his youth with the pop flavorings of his later years.

TRACKS:
Pretending
Anything for Your Love
Bad Love
Running on Faith

No Alibis
Run So Far

Camarillo, CA - Eric Clapton fans are buzzing with excitement over the release of his critically acclaimed 1985 comeback album 'Behind The Sun' on limited numbered edition Hybrid SACD on Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity! The musical climate had changed dramatically from the days Eric Clapton had topped the charts in the '70s. 'Behind The Sun' is not his first album of the decade, but he obviously understood it was time to modernize his sound. After signing with Warner Brothers in 1983, Clapton bounced back on the music charts for the first time in five years, and solidified his return in 1985 with the instant success of 'Behind The Sun', his ninth album.

Backed with a line-up of stellar musicians and producers Lenny Waronker, Rod Templeman and Phil Collins, Clapton for the first time in years now had several songs that reached a wider audience, scoring Top 40 hits with "Forever Man" and "See What Love Can Do." He didn't abandon his old music, he just blended it more effectively and brought the flavor up to date by mastering the more electronic sound of '80s radio.

This album also had a heavy soul flavor with a really well produced version of Eddie Floyd's "Knock On Wood", and Clapton remained true to the blues with a brilliant eight minute track, "Same Old Blues", which contains some of his most electric playing of the era.

The sessions featured Toto guitarist Steve Lukather and former drummer Jeff Porcaro, as well as Clapton's long-time collaborators, drummer Jamie Oldaker, bassist Nathan East and keyboardist Greg Phillinganes. Clapton's voice had a rich new depth, like whiskey aged to perfection. The recording showcased blistering guitar solos, a high-octane R&B beat and a slick synthesizer-backed production that was well-suited for the pop-rock market - The Guitar God was now serenading to a new generation of admirers and fans alike.

“Back in the spotlight...this comeback album is an underrated classic - Don't miss out on this gem!”

Audio Fidelity To Release The Butterfield Blues Band 'East-West' Album On Hybrid SACD

"One of the greatest guitar albums of all time...A breath taking performance from beginning to end."

Camarillo, CA – Much to the excitement of blues aficionados worldwide, Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity is releasing The Butterfield Blues Band's legendary 'East-West' album on Hybrid SACD on April 1, 2014. The Butterfield Blues Band had already shown on their first album that they had a definite command of the Chicago blues idiom. On 'East-West' they open up and branch out without losing the edge and drive of their first recording. 'East-West' represented a watershed for pop music...more maturity, better musicianship, more exploration, more successful blending of other genres. 'East-West' stretches the boundaries of the blues, above any other extended piece of the mid-Sixties; a rock band finally achieved a version of the musical freedom that free jazz had found a few years earlier. It can also be heard as part of what sparked the West Coast's rock revolution, in which song structures with extended improvisation became commonplace.

In 1966 when this album debuted, it was nothing less than astonishing. A mixed-race band? A white guy singing blues? A Jewish kid and a southern farmboy sounding like Robert Johnson on guitars? The album was recorded at the famed Chess Studios in Chicago. It peaked at #65 on the Billboard pop albums chart. This album features traditional blues covers and the guitar work of Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop. The edge this band had was it had people from Chicago, the home of urban blues, who had grown up and played with all the greats. "East-West" combines the emotion and power of the blues along with the swing and instrumental dexterity of a great jazz band. The two centerpieces of the album, the instrumentals "Work Song" written by jazz great Nat Adderly, and the title cut "East-West" are recognized by many as the first recorded versions of jazz-rock fusion put to vinyl.

"One of the essential albums everyone must own...An American milestone recording."

Heart's Legendary Second Album 'Magazine' Gets Reissued On Hybrid SACD

“A rare gem...Evocative and controversial”

Camarillo, CA - Heart fans are ecstatic with the release of the band's evocative and controversial second album 'Magazine' on Hybrid SACD by Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity! 'Magazine' shows Heart while they were still an idealistically young band, before they became such a worldwide phenomenon. Their second album shows the same impassioned songs that marked the band's debut, 'Dreamboat Annie'. They were really hard rockers back then. Ann and Nancy Wilson wove a tapestry of gypsy meets modern woman, and it is highly involved in the early songwriting. The album features a mix of ballads and straight out rock-blues-metal at its purest.

'Magazine' was recorded in 1978 and was a victim of legal hassles with the label that delayed its release, yet the album boasts a mix of light and heavy tracks that are pure Heart. There's the rockin' “Devil Delight” and the bluesy-rock stomp of “Heartless” - one of their best songs ever! There's the beautiful, sweet acoustic moment of “Here Song” and the smooth “Just The Wine” and the Badfinger cover “Without You” - Ann's vocals are incredible; she has the chops to belt out like Janis Joplin! There's the pure, slow and chugging blues of “Mother Earth Blues” and the stomping live recording, “I've Got The Music In Me.”

Heart's 'Magazine' eventually went platinum and peaked at #17 on the album charts, and the album's only single “Heartless” landed in the Top 40.

Tracks include:
Heartless
Devil Delight
Just The Wine
Without You
Magazine
Here Song
Mother Earth Blues (live)
I've Got The Music In Me (live)

Folk Legends Peter, Paul & Mary's 1962 Debut Album To Be Released On Hybrid SACD By Audio Fidelity March 4, 2014

“One of the best albums to come out of the 1960s folk music revival”

Camarillo, CA - The group that transformed American folk music into '60s pop, legendary Peter, Paul & Mary's debut 1962 self-titled album will be released on Hybrid SACD by Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity on March 4, 2014. One of the best albums to come out of the 1960s folk music revival, the trio's debut release featured two of the biggest folk hits of all time, “Lemon Tree” and “If I Had A Hammer”, along with such classics as “500 Miles” and “Where Have All The Flowers Gone.” Peter, Paul & Mary's first album introduced one of the most popular, innovative and enduring folk music groups of all time!

'Peter, Paul & Mary' is a collection of the best songs that the group knew, stirring in its sensibilities and its haunting melodies, crossing between folk, children's songs, and even gospel; light-hearted just where it needed to be and earnest where it has to be. For a young group on their first album, this was meticulously produced and already showed their incredible sense of professionalism. The angelic voice of Mary Travers blends with Peter Yarrow's tenor and Paul Stookey's bass on some gorgeous harmonies.

It's one of the rare folk albums to reach US #1, staying in the Billboard Magazine Top Ten for 10 months, including seven weeks in the #1 position. At the Grammy Awards of 1963, their recording of “If I Had A Hammer” won the Best Folk Recording and Best Pop Performance by a Vocal Group awards. This classic recording helped to bring modern folk stylings to a mass audience for the first time. The album's innocent good spirit and optimism remains infectious even 50 years later!

Tracks:
Early In The Morning
500 Miles
Sorrow
This Train
Bamboo
It's Raining
If I Had My Way
Cruel War
