The King Of The Honking Sax BIG JAY MCNEELY Returns With A Brand New Set Of Recordings!

Los Angeles, CA - Before Jimi Hendrix, before Elvis Presley, there was Big Jay McNeely honking and squealing on his saxophone, wowing audiences with a stellar, energetic live show that often found him writhing around on his back or jumping into the middle of his enthusiastic audience, all while never missing a single beat! McNeely is truly the last of a generation of blues/R&B musicians who inspired the early rock pioneers, and are still around to remind us where popular music came from. Now, McNeely has teamed with Cleopatra Records to present this special album of 5 brand new recordings plus a handful of classics from the ‘50s & ‘60s called Blowin’ Down The House - Big Jay’s Greatest & Latest. This collection will be released on the Cleopatra Blues imprint September 30 on both CD and vinyl!

Big Jay McNeely’s incredible career began in the ‘40s and saw him play with several major R&B and blues legends of the late ‘40s and early ‘50s such as Little Richard, B.B. King, Etta James and Jr. Wells. He scored his first major hit with the 1949 smash hit instrumental “Deacon’s Hop” and scored again with a R&B vocal ballad “There’s Something On Your Mind” featuring Little Sonny Warner. He pioneered the flamboyant playing style called “honking” and is widely acknowledged as one of the first musical entertainers to make showmanship an important element of the live concert experience. His music continues to be an important signifier for that early era, earning McNeely gigs at major festivals both here and abroad as well as having his music featured in the 2013 Sean Penn film Gangster Squad starring and last year’s biopic Trumbo starring Bryan Cranston. This year, Big Jay partnered with producer Jürgen Engler for a set of new recordings in his classic style such as the Motown-esque “Love Will Never Fail” and the bluesy “I’ve Been Mistreated.” These songs demonstrate that even at 89 years of age, Big Jay McNeely can still blow them all away!

Those in need of a refresher about Big Jay’s history can watch this short promotional documentary film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whAxAIR2MD4

Catch Big Jay performing live at the Record Parlour on September 24!

1. Love Will Never Fail

Christmas Stream: Bunny Sigler-Little Drummer Boy

Bunny Sigler is one of those kings of R&B that makes his mark count whenever he gets into the studio. With the release of a Christmas album this year titled
When Your In Love At Christmas Time it shows his versatility.

The first single released from that album is the timeless classic "Little Drummer Boy."

I like all kinds of music and have been open to different interpretations of well known songs over the years however this one really caught my ear. It is funky and rich with sound and rhythm.

The talent of Mr. Sigler comes through with impact on this holiday treat bringing the spirit and meaning of the season right home to the heart. I have heard many different types of Christmas music in my day and I have to say that this "Little Drummer Boy" is a classic rendition the artist made all his own.

Give this alternative version of a classic song a chance to get you in the right mood to enjoy the Holidays!

Keith "MuzikMan" Hannaleck

More About Bunny Sigler:

http://www.bunnysigler.net

Bunny was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 27, 1941. The industry gave him the nickname, “Mr. Emotion” after his heartfelt performances on stage.

After seeing Bunny perform at Atlantic City’s Ambassador Hotel, Independent Producers John Madara and Dave White signed him a deal that led to the release on Cameo of “Let The Good Times Roll” and “Feels So Good”. The groovy yet smooth tune reached 12 in the U.S. R&B Billboard charts, and his music career skyrocketed from there.

With the Philly soul sound so hot, Sigler got a chance to work with a number of acts as a writer and/or producer, including the Whispers, Ecstacy, Passion And Pain and Carl Carlton. He cut tracks for artists on Curtis Mayfield's Curtom label, including Mayfield himself ("Trippin' Out"), and made a duet album with Barbara Mason. In 1976, Sigler got Instant Funk an album deal with Gamble Huff's TSOP label.

Creating several hits over the span of his career that today's generation keep sampling, Bunny continues to write, produce and record new material. He is the co-writer of the song, “The Ruler's Back” which was an opening song for the Jay Z's album, "Blueprint". At 70 years old "there ain't no stopping us now" claims "Sigler"...

He's a living legend alright and a huge part of music history. Whether it's performing, writing or producing he gives it his all....

It's no wonder why the Industry has nicknamed him "Mr. Emotion."

Los Angeles, CA - R&B guitar legend Shuggie Otis is preparing a massive comeback that is sure to make the music world sit up and listen. 2016 will see the release of a brand new solo album from this much revered singer-songwriter-guitarist, his first since the 1974 all-time classic Inspiration/Information. That’s right, fans have waited more than 40 years for a new Shuggie album, and this month they can get a taste of what awaits them by picking up the Ice Cream Party 7”, which will be released on November 27 as part of the Black Friday Record Store Day promotion. This spectacular new jam finds Shuggie exploring his psychedelic side while turning in an explosive, guitar-heavy performance. The 7” will be available in a limited edition gold vinyl pressing.

Shuggie is also pleased to announce the first leg of his European tour, which will kick off in Paris on February 17. Nobody brings as much soul, style, and swagger to a live performance as Shug with his signature red Gibson SG, and fans who have followed this multi-talented performer’s tumultuous career know that a Shuggie Otis concert is not an event to be missed. Whether it be the fabulous grooves of “Inspiration Information” or the funkdafied rhythm of the stone-cold classic “Strawberry Letter 23,” Shuggie’s songs have a magical sway over audiences, both young and old, guaranteed to get them on their feet and dancing in the aisles!

The son of renowned bandleader and musician Johnny Otis, Shuggie Otis began his incredible career at the tender age of 15, playing as a session guitarist alongside Al Kooper before releasing his first solo album Here Comes Shuggie Otis in 1970. Already being hailed as a uniquely skillful guitarist, Shuggie proved his mettle as a songwriter the following year with the hit single “Strawberry Letter 23” from his second solo album. Now one of the most sampled songs in all of modern music, “Strawberry Letter 23” became an even bigger smash when The Brothers Johnson recorded their version in 1977 (produced by Quincy Jones). After the release of his third album Inspiration Information failed to meet outsized expectations, Shuggie seemed to retire permanently from music. But, thankfully, he reemerged in 2013 with a deluxe reissue of Inspiration Information as well as a live CD & DVD Live In Williamsburg. Now, Shuggie is about to embark on the comeback of a lifetime, and his adoring fans stand ready to re-embrace him!

The song is taken from his 'Love Is' album which was released worldwide on October 21st, 2014. At that point, I got the inspiration to rework the song into what it is now. It was the song that set the pace for the overall style of 'Love Is' the album. It’s one of my favorite songs on the album and I’m happy we are releasing it as a single to radio along with an epic video.”

For those unfamiliar with the group’s history, The Coasters scored their first hit single “Down In Mexico” in the spring of 1956, which they followed in 1957 with “Young Blood” and “Searchin’” the following year. In 1958, the band again hit the chart with two blockbuster hits that would become as iconic as the band that sang them, “Yakety Yak” and “Charlie Brown.” From then on, it was hit after hit for the group with songs such as “Poison Ivy,” “Along Came Jones,” “Love Potion #9,” “Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart” and many more! The line-up of The Coasters that was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 (Carl Gardner, Billy Guy, Will Jones, Cornell Gunter) have all since passed but their legacy lives on with the help of Joe Lance Williams (tenor/baritone), Primo Candelara (tenor), Dennis Anderson (baritone), and Eddie Whitfield (bass). Three of these gifted vocalists were personally handpicked by group founder Carl Gardner, with Dennis coming aboard in 2011 after Carl had passed. Though often imitated, they have never been duplicated and they continue to do what they do best on both the stage and in the studio, entertain the audience!
