Rock Trio Blurred Vision To Release Debut Album and Tour With Uriah Heep

Easy to see why a band whose young career began with the support and endorsement of Pink Floyd founder Roger Waters, is being hailed as an iconic band in the making with their debut album.

London, UK - Blurred Vision is a 3-piece progressive/psychedelic/pop rock outfit comprised of guitarist & vocalist Sepp Osley, bassist Sohl Osley and drummer Ben Riley. The band's career was launched in 2010, when the endorsement of Pink Floyd founder Roger Waters brought them international acclaim.

Blurred Vision release their debut album 'Organized Insanity' on April 6, signed to a worldwide distribution deal through Cherry Red Records (UK). 'Organized Insanity' reveals personal stories of the modern day culture of relationships and love, while also touching on controversial themes of war, politics, religion, and the state of the music scene today. Produced by multi platinum selling producer Terry Brown, the band's unique style varies from the progressive and psychedelic rock of the 70’s, the mystical and exotic sounds and melodies of the Mid East, to an amalgamation of contemporary and unique new Rock ‘N’ Roll songs with memorable hooks and great pop sensibilities.

Says Sepp, “When we wrote 'Organized Insanity' we knew right away it was a title that would define our debut album. It not only depicted the personal relationships we were in at the time that were inspiring some of the songs on the record, but also the broader more global theme of the struggles our generation faces in our world today. Relationships, Love, war, religion, politics...all formed to make what is the first chapter of our band's musical story.”

UK music writer Malcolm Dome, writes in the latest issue of Prog Magazine (UK): “...a debut album that will surely be one of the best of 2015.” Full article here: http://prog.teamrock.com/reviews/2015-03-06/blurred-vision-organized-insanity

The Next Generation Of Psych Bands Bring A New Mind Expanding Perspective To 12 Classic Beatles Songs!

Los Angeles, CA - Their popularity among music fans is undeniable, their status with music critics is unimpeachable, and their influence across a multitude of genres - from pop to rock, world music to country - is thoroughly indisputable. Yet The Beatles’ ubiquity makes us forget that there once was a time when this UK band was truly dangerous, a radical cultural force pushing its way into the mainstream to the shock and horror of many. Now, a new generation of psych rock bands seek to bring back that sense of danger to the Beatles' music, taking twelve classic compositions by the Fab Four and filtering them through modern sensibilities to bring a whole new perspective to these celebrated works. The resulting project, The Magical Mystery Psych Out - A Tribute To The Beatles, will be released on both CD and vinyl by Cleopatra Records on March 3.

German acid rockers Electric Moon kick things off with the song that many consider the defining birth of psychedelic rock music, “Tomorrow Never Knows” from Revolver, here given a new depth and sense of urgency with walls of distorted guitars and haunting female vocals. Sugar Candy Mountain chose a rarer tune from the same era, the B-side single “Rain,” and came up with a version more sinister yet stealthily hypnotic. The band echoed the thoughts of many artists on the album when they declared that recording a Beatles song is simultaneously “fun and intimidating.” Matt Adams, here performing “The Word” as The Blank Tapes, elaborates on this idea saying “The Beatles recordings have always been untouchable to me, but I jumped at the chance to do my own take on one of their songs. I tried staying true to the original but changed some of the sounds and stretched out the ending.” Fellow UK acts such as The KVB and The Underground Youth also turn in inspired versions that would make their countrymen proud, and together with US rising stars The Vacant Lots and Strangers Family Band, recreate for modern listeners the thrill that ‘60s audiences must have felt like hearing such strange, enticing, and far-out sounds for the first time. With an appropriately mind-blowing painting by San Francisco-based artist/illustrator Matt Leunig, The Magical Mystery Psych Out is coming to take you away!

Stoned - A Psych Tribute To The Rolling Stones - 14 Shining Stars Of The Neo-Psych Scene Reinterpret Classics From The Rolling Stones!

Includes performances by Clinic, The Vacant Lots, Celestial Bums, Allah-Las, Pure X, The Tulips, Tashaki Miyaki, and more!

Los Angeles, CA - EVERYBODY MUST GET STONED!…Dylan declared in ‘66 just a year or so after The Rolling Stones got their initial hit of major commercial success with arguably the most addictive song of all-time “(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction.” It was their first international #1 single, and a high they would chase (and catch!) for the next 4 decades as they would go on to create one of the most mind-blowingly potent canons in modern music. But if you think you've plumbed the depths of the Jagger/Richards pharmacy, just wait until you hear what the newest psych rock junkies do to these well-known tonics. From The Vacant Lots’ stimulating take on “She Smiled Sweetly” to Clinic’s hallucinogenic version of “I Know It's Only Rock & Roll (But I Like It),” these young bands take Stones classics to places they’ve never been before. The full album entitled Stoned - A Psych Tribute To The Rolling Stones featuring 14 tracks will be available everywhere starting January 20 from Cleopatra Records.

The Allah-Las, like many of the bands featured here, dug deep into the Stones vast catalog for their cover of the 1963 gem “Stoned.” Meanwhile, Barcelona quartet Celestial Bums declared, “We are very honored that we got the chance to do that since for us The Rolling Stones is probably the best rock band in history. We chose ‘Child Of The Moon’ for being quite an unknown song that at same time has an amazing essence of their psych period.” L.A.-based trio Tashaki Miyaki shares, “Covering a song by such a legendary band was a bit daunting. We delved a little deeper into the Stones catalog to find something less heard that would compliment our band's sound. ‘Take It or Leave It’ seemed like the right vibe.” Of course, more well-known songs such as “Sympathy For The Devil,” “Gimme Shelter,” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” also got the psych remake treatment with astounding results. Available on both CD and vinyl, Stoned - A Psych Tribute To The Rolling Stones has the cure for the musical boredom that ails you!

1. Lorelle Meets The Obsolete - What A Shame
2. The KVB - Sympathy For The Devil
3. Shiny Darkly - Under My Thumb
4. Yeti Lane - Sway
5. Clinic - It’s Only Rock & Roll (But I Like It)
6. Sons Of Hippies - Gimme Shelter
7. The Vacant Lots - She Smiled Sweetly
8. Celestial Bums - Child Of The Moon
9. Tashaki Miyaki - Take It Or Leave It
10. Allah-Las - Stoned
11. Pink Velvet - (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction [CD ONLY]
12. Pure X - Beast Of Burden [CD ONLY]
13. Cheval Sombre - As Tears Go By
14. The Tulips - Wild Horses

Captain Beefheart 'Commodore Ballroom, Vancouver 1973' Rare Concert Recording Now Available!

London, UK – Continuing with their series of historic Captain Beefheart concert releases, Gonzo Multimedia has just released on CD a rare live recording of the Captain and his Magic Band in concert at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver in March of 1973! Don Van Vliet (born Don Glen Vliet; January 15, 1941 – December 17, 2010) was an American musician, singer-songwriter, artist and poet known by the stage name Captain Beefheart. His musical work was conducted with a rotating ensemble of musicians called the Magic Band (1965–1982), with whom he recorded 13 studio albums. Noted for his powerful singing voice with its wide range, Van Vliet also played the harmonica, saxophone and numerous other wind instruments. His music blended rock, blues and psychedelia with avant-garde and contemporary experimental composition. Beefheart was also known for exercising an almost dictatorial control over his supporting musicians, and for often constructing myths about his life.

During his teen years in Lancaster, California, Van Vliet developed an eclectic musical taste and formed friendship with Frank Zappa, with whom he sporadically collaborated. He began performing with his Captain Beefheart persona in 1964 and joined the original Magic Band line-up, initiated by Alexis Snouffer, in 1965. The group drew attention with their cover of Bo Diddley's “Diddy Wah Diddy”, which became a regional hit. It was followed by their acclaimed debut album 'Safe As Milk', released in 1967 on Buddah Records. After being dropped by two consecutive record labels, they signed to Zappa's Straight Records. As producer, Zappa granted Beefheart unrestrained artistic freedom in making 1969's 'Trout Mask Replica', which ranked 58th in Rolling Stone magazine's 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. In 1974, frustrated by lack of commercial success, he released two albums of more conventional rock music that were critically panned; this move, combined with not having been paid for a European tour, and years of enduring Beefheart's strict discipline, led the entire band to quit. Beefheart eventually formed a new Magic Band with a group of younger musicians and regained contemporary approval through three final albums: 'Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller)' (1978), 'Doc At The Radar Station' (1980) and 'Ice Cream For Crow' (1982).

Van Vliet has been described as “...one of modern music's true innovators” with “...a singular body of work virtually unrivaled in its daring and fluid creativity.” Although he achieved little commercial or mainstream critical success, he sustained a cult following as a 'highly significant' and 'incalculable' influence on an array of New Wave, punk, post-punk, experimental and alternative rock musicians. Known for his enigmatic personality and relationship with the public, Van Vliet made few public appearances after his retirement from music (and from his Beefheart persona) in 1982. He pursued a career in art, an interest that originated in his childhood talent for sculpture, and a venture that proved to be his most financially secure. His expressionist paintings and drawings command high prices, and have been exhibited in art galleries and museums across the world. Van Vliet died in 2010, having suffered from multiple sclerosis for many years.

This extraordinary record catches the Captain at his best; live on stage in 1973. Someone who was in the audience that night later wrote: “The Captain Beefheart show was beyond my expectations, it washed over us with a magic gumbo of free-jazz, swampy blues, avante garde squawking and punky insolence. We loved it. We didn't know what it was, but we loved it. Captain Beefheart was at least twice as old as most of us in the room, but that wasn't an issue, not in the least. It rocked our world.”

Two New Experimental Psych Rock Projects From The Venerable Austin TX Scene Scheduled To Land On October 14!

Los Angeles, CA - Home to South By Southwest (SXSW), one of the largest and most prestigious independent music festivals today, Austin TX has long been renowned for an abundance of extraordinarily talented musicians and bands who push at the edges of rock music’s boundaries, artists such as Roky Erickson (13th Floor Elevators), Spoon, The Black Angels, Explosions In The Sky, and many more! Following in those prestigious footsteps come two brand new projects that venture into the wild blue Texas yonder: first, a new album from legendary psych space institution ST 37 called I’m Not Good, and second, an adventurous improvisational collaboration from the collective known as My Education / Theta Naught Sound Mass, called Sound Mass II: Spiritual Docking. Both albums will be released on October 14 by L.A. independent record label Cleopatra Records!

Since their formation in January 1987, Texas psych/space rock legends ST 37 have released a slew of critically acclaimed albums and shared the stage with artists like Sonic Youth, Acid Mothers Temple, Hawkwind, Chrome, and Guru Guru, all of whom have been influential in the development of the band. In fact, the band draws its name from a song off of Chrome’s Alien Soundtracks and more recently, longtime ST 37 member SL Telles joined Guru Guru co-founder Mani Neumeier and Jürgen Engler of Die Krupps on the new krautrock project Guru Freakout. ST 37’s newest offering, I’m Not Good, finds the band challenging both themselves and audiences with densely layered compositions that entrance and astound!

My Education / Theta Naught Sound Mass, on the other hand, is a joint venture by two extremely well regarded post-rock bands, My Education and Theta Naught. Pairing classical string instruments (cello, viola) with standard rock elements (guitar, bass, drums), this duo produces a gorgeously cinematic soundscape along the lines of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and early Pink Floyd. Sound Mass II: Spiritual Docking, as the title suggests, is a sequel to the 2011 recording that first brought these two bold and fearless collaborators together. And like their previous effort, this album is a daring partnership between two highly adventurous improvisational bands!

The dirt road of psychedelia is taking you back to the place where it started. Dig it!

Psychedelic Music Legends The Electric Prunes Release New Live CD 'WaS'

Los Angeles, CA - Electric Prunes fans are buzzing with excitement about the release of a new CD of unreleased live material titled 'WaS'! Featuring 15 slamming cuts to keep you up at night! American psychedelic rock group The Electric Prunes first achieved international attention in the late 1960s. The band performed their 1966 hit song “I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)” on American Bandstand, and were also recognized for the song “Kyrie Eleison”, which was featured on the 'Easy Rider' soundtrack. After a period in which they had little control over their music, they disbanded for several years. In 1999, much to the delight of their fans worldwide, The Electric Prunes reformed, and resumed recording and touring!

And now an interplanetary message from James Lowe of the Electric Prunes...

“The Electric Prunes invite you, our closest friends, to a new adventure! WaS. That WaS the Electric Prunes! It has been a long journey here and we have waited till the planetary alignment was correct for a new release. The lunar eclipse signaled the start of something, tho no one is sure exactly what? We offer WaS as the saucer to fast forward you to the cosmic finish.

There is a fine line between 'IS' and 'WAS'. If what you did is more important than what you are doing, you WAS. One moment you is and then you was. Somehow 1967 doesn't seem much different from today; tastes change but I think people are always on the lookout for some fresh ideas from the 'is' that makes them remember the 'was'.

Mark Tulin and I were collecting ideas and songs for our last adventure when he went through the door. I am not sure he is really gone because I hear his voice as clearly as if he were standing beside me. Usually, Mark and I would send each other song ideas back and forth until we had the rough story line and music in hand, then we would meet and pound everything into submission. This CD is a collection of those final ideas and messages between us and that is all we set out to present here; but a funny thing happened on the way to the recording studio. A new idea emerged behind a gig in Tokyo in an unusual snowstorm, and then someone sneezed on a girl in the subway, and a frozen winter chilled the planet; suddenly there were new thoughts, fresh ideas and new places to sketch our story in song. Everyone in the band felt it. Like a blast of energy. The 'was' became 'is'.

The Electric Prunes have always been a little on the outside. Maybe it was the name? Maybe the music? In all, we have released 8 actual album offerings from the band (there are a few pretenders from the record company that we discount). Our legitimate recordings represent our thinking and, in some cases, lack of thinking. We were never mainstream enough to fret over what went on the records; witnessed by some of the goofy cuts we have released, we were just happy to be able to record our thoughts. It seems fitting that we release this 9th offering with the same abandon. This is a garage band and is not meant to be taken seriously. The music here is from all layers of the band from 1966 to 2014. This is a cool album, maybe the last we will ask you to support. But we do hope you will post it on the web and dance to it in the moonlight on 11! There is even a music video by the band for TOKYO floating around! Please bring your friends because the band wants to go out and play live one more time and we need you for that. Tell your local club to invite us. We will come.... We WaS but we still Is ....”

The 15-track CD features a throwback version of “Smokestack Lightning” from 2000 that was the band's reunion call-to-arms with Ken Williams on lead guitar, Quint back up on drums, Mark Tulin on bass and an occasional harmonica by James Lowe. Original noise! There is also a live version of “Bullet Thru The Backseat” from a night in Bristol England featuring Williams, Lowe, Tulin, Dooley, more original fare.

That leaves 13 original new songs to be explored. “Earwash” for the initiated!

Historic 1967 Live Album From Psych Rock Pioneers Iron Butterfly Receives Its First Ever Proper Release!

Los Angeles, CA - From the archives of ‘60s psychedelic rock comes this incredible live concert album showcasing the early beginnings of one of the most influential and legendary heavy psych bands ever, Iron Butterfly, available on CD and, for the first time, gorgeous 12” vinyl from Purple Pyramid Records starting May 27! Recorded at the historic Galaxy Club, which opened in 1964 just two doors west of the Whisky in the heart of the Sunset Strip, this brilliant performance features the rare early line-up of the band that recorded the monumentally important debut full-length Heavy: Doug Ingle (vocals, organ), Danny Weiss (guitar), Jerry Penrod (bass), Darryl DeLoach (vocals, percussion), Ron Bushy (drums).

“Every big name act that was in LA came to see us play at the Galaxy,” says Bushy. “There was Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, etc.” Atlantic Records showed up too, signed the band, and sent them into the studio to record what would become the band’s debut album. The set list from this night’s performance included “Possession,” Heavy’s monumental opening cut, and its far-sighted closer, “Iron Butterfly Theme” as well as “Fields Of Sun,” “Gentle As It May Seem” and “You Can’t Win,” all of them indicative of the Butterfly’s most powerful punch. And all of them performed by a band that was about to emerge from its cocoon to become one of the most adventurous, fearless and astounding bands to ever take flight - the mighty Iron Butterfly!

Leaders Of The New Psych Rock Movement Pay Tribute To The Original Riders On The Storm, The Doors!

Featuring The Black Angels, The Raveonettes, Clinic, Psychic Ills, Sons Of Hippies, Elephant Stone, Dead Skeletons and more!

Los Angeles, CA - Doors fans, prepare to have your minds blown all over again! On March 4th, L.A.-based indie label Cleopatra Records will release A Psych Tribute to The Doors, a heartfelt salute to the hometown heroes who put L.A. on the astrological map, legendary psychedelic rock band The Doors! Contributing to this epic tribute are several leaders of psych rock’s next wave of sonic visionaries including Danish indie rockers The Raveonettes, British post-punk revivalists Clinic, and Austin TX psych rock superstars The Black Angels whose fuzzed out version of “Soul Kitchen” is currently available as an “instant gratification” track on the iTunes album pre-order here: http://georiot.co/cnH

Formed at the apex of the 20th century’s most tumultuous decade, The Doors led a musical and cultural revolution, shaking up notions of what rock bands looked like and sounded like. A quartet with electric organ substituting for bass guitar and led by a shaggy-haired hippy/philosopher/poet with model looks, the band released just 6 albums with front(mad)man Jim Morrison, yet those albums contained enough classic songs to inspire and influence a legion of bands. From the sexy tease of “Light My Fire” to the bluesy sleaze of “Love Me Two Times”, not to mention the pioneering experimentations of “Riders On The Storm” and “The End,” the legacy of The Doors endures precisely because their songs transcended time and place, reaching outward and touching artists and musicians generation after generation.

No wonder then that when the call was issued for participants on this tribute album, many – like stoner rock icons Dead Meadow – leapt at the opportunity. “From the very beginning of our band to recording in the hallowed halls of Sunset Sound, where the Doors recorded all of their classic albums, we would listen to the mystical sounds of the Doors for magic. The escapism and dark tunes were a huge influence...It was an honor to be able to reinterpret them...” Montreal’s Elephant Stone likewise enthuses, “When asked to be involved with this tribute I knew I did not want to just play a Doors tune; I wanted to reinvent it...So, we reconstructed ‘L.A. Woman’ as a drone-y psyche tune that maintained the West Coast vibe but with an added dash of Madchester, a sprinkling of Live at Pompeii and swirl of backwards sitar. Mojo rising indeed.”

1. Elephant Stone - L.A. Woman
2. The Black Angels - Soul Kitchen
3. Psychic Ills - Love Me Two Times
4. Dark Horses - Hello, I Love You
5. Camera - People Are Strange
6. Dead Meadow - The Crystal Ship
7. Sons Of Hippies - The Soft Parade
8. Dead Skeletons - Riders On The Storm
9. Wall Of Death - Light My Fire
10. Clinic - Touch Me
11. VietNam - Roadhouse Blues
12. Geri X - Love Her Madly
13. The Raveonettes - The End
