The film is packed with archival footage and an amazingly beautiful soundtrack is always flowing underneath. Laurent Goldstein produced his first feature-length documentary, “Your Second Fifty” a motivational piece that demonstrates that in spite of prejudices and popular beliefs, there is a life after 50, and it can be amazing! The film was shot over an 18-month period, in 6 countries on 3 continents, and showcases 40 fascinating characters. It has been shown in motivational seminars throughout North America since 2015.

In 2016, he produced – partly thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign - his second feature-length documentary: “To Life, Death and Beyond: the Music of Magma,” a tribute to the cult French progressive rock band.

French Music Legends Magma's Critically Acclaimed 1975 "Magma Live" Album Remastered With Bonus Tracks

Remastered 2-CD In DigiPack - contains Booklet with text & lyrics – original recordings & bonus tracks

Paris - Much to the excitement of Magma fans worldwide, the band's critically acclaimed 1975 live album “Magma Live” has been remastered and contains two bonus tracks not on the original release! After the departure in autumn 1974 of Jannick Top and most of the other members of the band, Magma rose phoenix-like from the ashes with a new hot line-up, which saw the musical opportunity lying before it. After long rehearsals Christian Vander realized that he had yet another exceptional group and the decision was taken to records the first Magma live album. The recording, made in June 1975 at the Taverne de l'Olympia, perfectly demonstrates the incredible impact made by Magma. Absolutely dedicated to the music of Christian Vander, who by that time had reached the summit of his art, the band plays as if they were one man and sweeps all before it in its triumphant passage.

Whether it was a new arrangement of any old pieces (KOHNTARK, KOBAH, MEKANIK), or a previously unheard piece (HHAI, LIHNS), the sound of Magma has never been heard more powerfully as on this incredible recording. Although it remains difficult to point any one performance as being outstanding, it would never-the-less be difficult not to react to the mind-blowing performance by Didier Lockwood, whose violin playing contributes so greatly to the profound originality of this magnificent double album!

French Music Legends Magma Release Remastered "Wurdah Ïtah" Featuring Unreleased Material!

Featuring 25 minutes of previously unreleased material!

Paris, France - French music legends Magma have released a new remastered version of their critically acclaimed 1974 album “Wurdah Ïtah” on CD! The release includes for the first time, “Wurdah Ïtah Prima Materia,” the Original Demo used for the soundtrack to the film “Tristan & Iseult.”

“Winter 1971. Between two series of concerts, we are pacing in circles like caged animals. Georgio Gomelsky senses the tension in the air and decides to book the little Chappell studio for us for a few days in order to release our pent-up energy. On 3 January 1972, Klaus Blasquiz, Jean-Pierre Lembert, René 'Stundëhr' Garber and I enter the studio. Despite the many imperfections of this recording, it remains an essential document to understand the origin of 'Wurdah Ïtah' and to feel our frenzy at the time.” - Christian Vander 1974

“Wurdah Ïtah” was recorded in April 1974, just one month before the sessions which produced “Kohntarkosz.” It forms the second movement of “Theusz Hamtaahk,” an epic work in three movements of which “Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh,” recorded a year earlier by Magma, forms the final part. Performed by the core players in Magma at that time - Christian Vander (piano, drums, vocals), Jannick Top (bass), Klaus Blasquiz (vocals, percussion) and Stella Vander (vocals) - “Wurdah Ïtah” is music stripped down to its bare essence. Although a total contrast to the splendour and orchestral power of “M.D.K.,” it nevertheless has just as great rhythmic power and surprising vocal lyricism, unquestionably marked by the claws of Magma!

Recorded and mixed April 4th, 5th& 8th 1974 at Studio de Milan (Paris)  by Jean-Pierre Bameulle

New booklet – Lyrics included!

French Music Legends Magma To Release EMEHNTEHTT-RÉ TRILOGIE Live DVD!

Performed in full for the very first time!

Paris, France - French music legends Magma will be releasing EMEHNTEHTT-RÉ TRILOGIE Live DVD in January 2017! The concerts were recorded live at Le Triton in November 2014 and feature the EMEHNTEHTT-RÉ TRILOGIE performed in full for the very first time!

Initiated in 1973, its composition beholds its whole fulfillment after more than four decades. It is the testimony of an unwaveringly timeless inspiration, of which the expectant present asserts itself beyond history. Connecting wide and contrasted scenes, it sets its coherence within its very dynamics, playing with chiaroscuro, between choral splendor, operatic jubilation and hurricane of spirits beyond graves. The different parts formerly scattered around are finally gathered in all their glory, finding their proper place in the grand scale of a now complete work, topped off with the bright blaze of a Grand Finale.

The two-disc DVD set features THE CROSSROADS OF TIMES, 115 minutes of conversations with Christian Vander on composing each movement of the trilogy (with English subtitles). French Music Legends Magma To Tour North America Spring 2016!

Paris, France - One of music's most innovative and eclectic ensembles Magma will tour North America beginning in March 2016! Swirling riffs in odd time signatures, theatrical choir arrangements, heavy and distorted pulsing bass guitar, bombastic and minimalistic (sometimes both at the same time), dark and brooding, adventurous and angelic, jazzy or classical, but always with the highly innovative and original drums of founder and main composer Christian Vander. On the forthcoming US dates the legendary ensemble will be performing selections of new and classic Magma music!

“MAGMA is happy to return to the United States to play for Americans. We know you are passionate, respectful and curious about music. We find you to be generous and open. It will be a joy for us to see you this year.” - Christian Vander

Magma was founded in Paris in 1969 by Christian Vander, who derived his inspiration from a "vision of humanity's spiritual and ecological future" that profoundly disturbed him. Vander was a self-taught musician, who received some tips from drum legend Elvin Jones. In the course of Magma's first album, the band tells the story of a group of people fleeing a doomed Earth to settle on the planet Kobaïa. Later, conflict arises when the Kobaïans, who are descendants of the original colonists, encounter other Earth refugees. A distinguished aspect of Magma's music is that Vander actually invented a constructed language, Kobaïan, in which most lyrics are sung. Later albums told different stories set in more ancient times; however the Kobaïan language remained an integral part of the music. Reportedly, Christian Vander is also highly influenced by the work of jazz legend John Coltrane. “For my work, it is still Coltrane who actually gives me the real material to work on, to be able to move on.,” says Vander.

Clearly Magma is one of the most influential of all French bands. They have left a legacy of music that defies any of the standard and convenient classifications of rock, operating instead in a realm of their own creation. It waits to be discovered by new converts, and continually by older fans alike!

Magma:
Christian Vander :  drums, vocals
Stella Vander :  vocals, percs
Isabelle Feuillebois :  vocals, percs
Hervé Aknin : vocals

Music Legends Magma To Release Iconic 1975 Live Album “Magma Live Hhaï” on Limited Edition Vinyl!

Paris, France - Completing the series of vinyl reissues, French music legends Magma will be issuing their iconic 1975 live album Magma Live Hhaï on limited edition vinyl. This double LP will be released by Jazz Village Records on October 2, 2015.

Magma has joined up with Jazz Village to celebrate its 45th anniversary with an impressive series of new and classic releases. A series of new and classic Magma titles has been scheduled for release every month from September 2014 to November 2015. A legendary French group if ever there was one, Magma has continued to influence the course of contemporary music since their debut in 1969.

After the departure in autumn of 1974 of Jannick TOP and most of the other members of the band, MAGMA rose phoenix-like from the ashes with a new, hot, line-up which saw the musical opportunity lying before it. After long rehearsals Christian VANDER realized that he had yet another exceptional groupand the decision was taken to record the first MAGMA live album. The recording, made in June 1975 at the Taverne de l'Olympia, perfectly demonstrates the incredible impact made by MAGMA. Absolutely dedicated to the music of Christian VANDER, who by that time had reached the summit of his art, the band plays as if it were one man and sweeps all before it in its triumphant passage. Whether it was a new arrangement of any of the old pieces (KOHNTARK, KOBAIA, MEKANIK) or a previously-unheard piece (HHAI, LIHNS), the sound of MAGMA has never been heard more powerfully as on this incredible recording. Although it remains difficult to point to any one performance as being outstanding, it would nevertheless be difficult not to react to the mind-blowing performance by Didier Lockwood, whose violin playing contributes so greatly to the profound originality of this magnificent double-album.

Christian VANDER drums, vocals - Klaus BLASQUIZ vocals - Stella VANDER vocals - Bernard PAGANOTTI bass - Gabriel FEDEROW guitar - Didier LOCKWOOD violin - Benoit WIDEMANN keyboards - Jean-Pol ASSELINE keyboards

ZUND 1:
1 - KOHNTARK part 1
2 - KOHNTARK part 2

ZUND 2:
1 - HHAI
2 - KOBAH
3 - LIHNS
5 - MEKANIK ZAIN

Recorded live between June 1 & 5, 1975 at la TAVERNE DE L’OLYMPIA, Paris  by Frank OWENS. Mixed at studio Le Chateau by George Chkiantz
