Instrumental Rock Project The Soft Shades Release Brand New Album ‘Keeper Of The Groove’

Album set for release on 22nd April 2016

‘Keeper of the Groove’ is the second post rock album to be released under the prog rock instrumental project The Soft Shades. The musical project was put together by Dimitry Gubsky in 2011.
Following on from the success of the 4 track EP released in November, The Soft Shades are now ready to release the full instrumental album and the end of April.
Founder Dimitry, has been passionate about music his whole life, he started learning how to play the accordion when he was just 7 years old. He has gone onto play and tour in lots of different successful bands in Europe as well as being involved in lots of different musical projects in his home country of Ukraine.  In 2012 he played at Euroblast in Cologne with his previous band ‘Joncofy’. After being in lots of different bands,  Dimitry wanted to create a new style of prog & metal instrumental music where he was involved in every aspect of the project from creating the music, writing the scores to producing and recording it all together for the album. It is very much his project that he had wanted to create for a really long time but wasn’t able to in his bands previously.
Each track on the album is highly original and a reflection of a different experience and emotion. At times the music is very cinematic with an intense feeling that you are waiting in anticipation for what is next to come.
Dimitry has spoken about the different influences behind the album;
“Everyday mood is what influenced the album, the track titles on the album show in some way what exactly inspired me for each song and all personal to experiences in my life.”
Highlight tracks include ‘First September Weekend, Sky Flares and November Storms. Another popular album track is ‘When This Day Comes’. This song was created to reflect the feeling you might feel on a Monday morning and thinking about going back to work after a perfect weekend off. It is a melancholic song that Dimitry has portrayed beautifully to reflex this mood.
The whole album is an exploration into the immersive world of rock, metal and instrumental music. The atmosphere over the 11 tracks perfectly encapsulates Dimitry ’s idea of exploring moods and experiences he has had in his life. The tracks are so powerful in portraying a message and captivating the listener that there is absolutely no need for words. The tracks vary from big rock guitar riffs and drums to an industrial eerie sound on tracks like ‘November Storms’ and ‘The Fall’. This combination of tracks on the album using familiar musical elements in different ways proves to make a very powerful and enticing listen.

Instrumental New Age/Ambient Review: Tom Eaton-Abendromen

Release Date: February 8, 2016
Label: Riverwide Records

Abendromen is Tom Eaton’s latest release. The title comes from the Dutch. It is actually two words combined, "Abend" is evening and "Dromen" is dreams. Tom is a very busy producer collaborating constantly with Will Ackerman in his Imaginary Road Studios to help New Age artists find their sound. Somehow he found the time in December 2015 and January 2016 to get this recording completed.

This is an album about dreaming and the different forms it can take on a daily basis. Some sweep you away from reality and some become reality. Listen to the music and create your dreams.

Tom composed, mixed, mastered, engineered and produced the recording using textural electric guitars, fretted and fretless basses, synthesizers and piano miniatures. All the piano, keyboards, guitars, basses and percussion where played by the artist making this a true “solo” work.

The ever important opening track draws the curtain back and sets the tone for any recording. And Tom introduces his style of music perfectly by easing you into his world with “Sunday-Slow Rotations.” It is atmospheric and features ambient textures with keyboards floating on top, promoting the traditional day of rest. It is the face of magnificence and elegance found in music all packaged in one track. The elements of new age and classical are injected with some ambient chill to make for delectable treat for the senses.

Oddly enough “Monday-Midwinter” is exactly where we are at in the northeast. Usually every year we have those nightmare days with the weather but it has been a winter only imagined by those hoping for warming temperatures and a lot less snow and ice. That dream came true.

“Tuesday-The Compass” is one of my preferred tracks. It reminded me of some of my favorite artists over the years like Tangerine Dream (Le Parc). The dreamy floating on cloud effect is there except the pace picks up a bit more right at the start. There is lovely melody weaved into the fabric of this track. It has inspired me to start listening to some of my favorite music again that I have not heard in so long. Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre and Mike Oldfield come to mind right away. The compass showed me the way.

I think the one track I could relate to most was “Friday-Patience.” The saying T.G.I.F. comes to mind and how you need to be patient and work your way through the day looking forward to the weekend to do what you really desire. It does require patience to make it through to Friday each week, some weeks require more than others. That is how the title hit me and the music felt right as well. The pace is even and peaceful while carrying the hope of a new day right around the corner.

I knew Tom Eaton was an incredibly talented producer and now I know for certain that the music is in every molecule of his being. With Abendromen his gives proof positive that his fingers hold the key to capturing the imagination of an audience in desperate need of unwinding and appreciating a relaxing atmosphere to decompress. It worked for me.

Instrumental/New Age/Classical Review: Tim Neumark-Galaxy-Solo Piano, Op.6

Release Date: May 1, 2015
Label: Indie

Tim Neumark’s sixth release Galaxy-Solo Piano, Op.6 came out this May. The solo piano works of this talented musician are starting to stack up and it is most impressive. This is the second album I have had the pleasure to enjoy since the 2014 recording Storm.

Most recently we featured the beautiful track “Starlight” on Rate The Tracks. This would serve as an excellent introduction to this album and a fine way to pull you into the entire project.

This is very straight forward solo piano music that consist of parts new age and classical while doubling as a meditation guide or relaxation tool. Everyone needs to retreat from a hard day of work and let all of the stress and worrying role off your back and melt away. I wish I could just carry this calm and assuring feeling with me everywhere I went and with everything I do. When I hear music like this it provides a course to take and then I have the hope that I can attain that state of being.

The idea here is clear, one look at the cover of the CD and you get. Neumark calls this an Opus and indeed it is. The more I listen to each track as they flow into each other like a river with a purpose; you can understand why he calls it an Opus. “Orbit” illustrates this in the most profound way as it takes the listener from baby steps into the vastness of space to take a trip around the globe. In a musical sense that is exactly what it conveys and becomes. The progressions of his playing are nearly 5 minutes. Its beauty and pureness transcends anything that gets in the way whether it be a busy mind or unhealthy thoughts, the music prevails.

“The Inner Light” is another tapestry of delicate sounds and movement…like the stars, planets and vast galaxies in the universe. Your inner light will come shining through and you will be taking the voyage with Neumark through his fingers to the piano and directly to your soul, like a musical umbilical cord it connects you and feeds you as you grow in the womb of the music.

I always connect the stars and the endless universe with birth and life itself - stardust we are indeed. I once had an experience on a birthday the year after my mother died that solidified this belief. I woke up and heard my mom say my entire name then I fell half asleep and felt a silver umbilical cord connecting me to the universe beyond. I know this sounds a little far-fetched for some folks but this really did happen to me and I will never forget it.

The music on Galaxy-Solo Piano, Op.6 allowed me to remember that spiritual experience that changed me forever. Thank you Tim Neumark for seeing the beauty beyond humanity and how intrinsically connected we are to the stars. Bringing it to us through your music is a beautiful thing.

More About Lynn Yew Evers:
http://www.lynnyewevers.com

Grammy® winner Will Ackerman, who produced Lynn's latest album "Dawn of Peace" says: "Lynn Yew Evers has the heart of a romantic and the hands of an artist. The combination is very powerful. Her music is like a walk through the most beautiful garden you've ever imagined; her compositions imbued with profound emotion and grace. A pianist who has played for the king and queen of her native Malaysia, “Dawn of Peace” is the larger world's introduction to a brilliant new talent."

Lynn Yew Evers is a multitalented concert pianist, whose passion and determination lead her to relocate from Malaysia to the United States in 2009 to further pursue her well-accomplished career as a professional musician. Lynn was born and raised in a vast historical city in Malaysia called Ipoh. As one of the largest cities in Malaysia, Ipoh is known for it’s year round tropical climate and magnificent limestone caves and temples that surround the metropolis. While growing up amidst the beauty of a tropical oasis, Lynn developed a deep connection to nature, which also nurtured her inspiration and intention behind her music.

“The Music of Nature is what one hears or feels when one is fully immersed in their natural surroundings and awed by the experience. It is much more than sound – singing birds and croaking frogs, but also rustling leaves, flowing water, and breathing winds. The intention behind my music is to gently guide the listener into the tranquility of nature, to experience their surroundings as I do - full of melody and harmony” she expresses. Lynn's U.S. debut solo piano album “Falling Leaves,” is a beautiful reflection of her classical roots with melodious improvisation to tell the story of her first experiences in America… her first autumn, her first snowy winter, and her first year away from home.

Lynn’s musical talent playfully surfaced on a toy piano at the age of 4. Gifted with a perfect ear and intuitive understanding of music, she began performing at age 6 and composing and improvising by age 9. Lynn had undeniably found her calling early in life, and began her musical career as early as 15 years old as a piano coach for children. Inspired by classical greats such as Beethoven, Chopin and Rachmaninoff, she went on to obtain a degree from the Trinity College of Music in London. She returned to Malaysia determined to further explore and develop her life long passion for music and immediately began to shine as a performer, arranger and composer in her native land.

From 1985-2009, Lynn organized and performed in a multitude of concerts in Malaysia and the U.S. as a solo pianist and accompanist for renowned choirs and ensembles. She arranged, composed and produced the music for a multitude of venues featuring brass bands, ensembles, and chamber orchestras. Lynn also appeared as an international judge for piano competitions on HDTV and played the keyboard in a rock band. Her countless high-level appearances, lead to a well-deserved invitation to the palace to play for the king and queen of Malaysia, as well as the Prime Minister and other Malaysian dignitaries.

“My music is a personal invitation to experience life through imaginative and inspiring stories told by melodies in harmony with nature, “ says Lynn. Amongst Lynn’s many accomplishments, her collaboration with Grammy winner Will Ackerman at his legendary Imaginary Roads Studio in Vermont stands at the top of her list. Her second solo piano album "Dawn of Peace," is a captivating production which truly captures the excellent ability of Ackerman and his team to effortlessly synthesize with the vision of the artist. “Dawn of Peace” brings to light the fluidity of Lynn’s music while expressing her intuitive sense of translating the peaceful melodies expressed in nature.

“When you have someone like Lynn Evers you’ve got this brilliant pianist from a technical standpoint and also this person who is filled with heart. Her music is incredibly expressive. So that’s the ultimate joy – to get someone who is so versatile as a pianist that you can offer suggestions and she is able to manifest that change gracefully in her own work. Believe me, when I hear heart in music, when I hear the pathos, when I hear the joy, when I hear the sadness, that’s what transports me. And Lynn Evers brings that in spades.” – Will Ackerman

Focus Track: AeTopus-Burst

AeTopus otherwise known as Bryan Tewell Hughes, has released a new album titled When. The focus track here is "Burst."

Burst is defined as: To break suddenly and violently apart, spilling the contents, typically as a result of an impact or internal pressure.

i.e. "We inflated dozens of balloons and only one burst"...Well in this case the balloon happens to be the music and it is just bursting with color and energy, albeit all in a positive uplifting sense.

"Burst" is like a cloth weaved by hand with an intricate design featuring many colors. It is atmospheric and ambient to start then percussion comes in and makes it more interesting and textured.

This is music you cannot put in a little box and tuck away in the corner, it combines Electronic, New Age and World that keeps your interest from start to finish. It is like listening to ancient tribal beats infused with electronic technologies...the combination is divine not to mention addicting!

New Age Instrumental/Classical Review: Angelo Râpan-Songs of Leaving

Release Date: August 2105
Label: Indie

Angelo Râpan has created a beautifully composed album titled Songs of Leaving. My introduction to this finely crafted recording was the track “Remember” which was featured on our Rate The Tracks site.

I was moved by this music, it hit me square in the heart. I thought about the title of the album then the tone and atmosphere of every track. If you listen carefully, the pace of each song can relate to something or someone leaving. Whether it be walking at a brisk pace or slowly turning back with a tear in one’s eye, or just cruising down a highway with a view of the coast …There is a song for each mood and place in time.

Angelo transfers his heart and soul through his incredibly talented fingers then creates music with the piano that is simply amazing. For the most part it is just the piano however you will hear a few different instruments peppered here and there such as the violin which can be an excellent companion of the piano. You will hear new age instrumental and classical influences coming through at every turn, and it is a wonderful mixture of sound and textures.

Once again I find myself at a loss to single out any one track that stands out above the rest as the entire album is superb from start to finish. The reason I say this is because each track seamlessly flows into the next. What this artist accomplishes within 8 tracks is like a moving musical storybook. Even though each one is different it ties into the next like a patchwork quilt with many colors and distinct purpose.

If you are in the mood for some soothing instrumental music to take the edge off and have the ability to really take stock of your inner most feelings and thoughts, Songs of Leaving will be the light at the end of the tunnel. Perhaps what it all means is that you can leave whatever it is that is preoccupying you behind and totally immerse yourself in this music. Whatever meaning you find in this music will certainly take you in a positive direction. It is worth several listens and I would be willing to bet will become one of your favorite instrumental albums to relax to this year.

Focus Track: Joanne Lazzaro-Path of the Departed Souls

Joanne Lazzaro has released an album titled Under The Stars. The focus track to hear is "Path of the Departed Souls."

Joanne is an accomplished flute player and the new recording encompasses 12 tracks. This is the first one I have heard and it was recommended by the artist. It was a fine choice.

"Path of the Departed Souls" is a beautiful and haunting piece. It makes you feel like you are really walking down a long path somewhere in the mountains above the clouds where spirits wander and memories of life abound. Let the flute be your Shaman and go deep inside yourself to find answers to questions you may have.

I loved the track and felt it was soothing with a certain mystical flair that captured my attention and imagination. Give it a good listen and let it transport you to another place.

More About Joanne:

http://www.kokopelli.la/

Bios can be long and look impressive, but I’m assuming you’re here because you’d like to know something about me...

I started taking flute lessons in public school, when I was 10 years old. No one else in my family was a musician, although I heard rumors that there was a famous gypsy violinist on my maternal grandfather's side.

My high-school band director, Lee Harrington, was incredibly influential and supportive of me, both as a musician and a person - he's  the main reason I continued on to play the flute for the rest of my life.

While I took to classical flute very quickly, I soon became interested in world flutes, too. People would constantly bring me any wooden, bamboo or ceramic flute that they had found while traveling, and hand it to me - "Look - I found a flute for you!". I was also very interested in Native American art and culture, and taught myself beadwork and leather-tooling. I had never seen (or heard) a Native American flute until I spotted one hanging on a wall in a gift shop in Boulder, Colorado, in the early 1990s, while on a road trip across the USA. As soon as a played a few notes on it, I was completely hooked. Soon after, I heard (and bought) Carlos Nakai's album "Canyon Trilogy", which inspired me to become a much better NAF player. At that point, I developed a real appreciation for "simple" world flutes and the skill it takes to play each one really well.

Instrumental Rock Review: Neal Schon-Vortex

Genre: Instrumental Rock
Release Date: June 23, 2015
Label: Music Theories

Neal Schon’s music career speaks for itself.  He was a member of Santana, fronted by the famous Carlos Santana, while still in his teens and went on to be a part of hard rock groups Bad English and Hardline, before finding mega success and fame with Journey during the 1980s.  Despite all of that, he still has time to work on solo projects and his latest solo release is a testament to his skill as a musician.

Vortex is a two-disc instrumental album featuring eighteen songs.  Featuring Jan Hammer (keyboards), Steve Smith (drums), and Igor Len (keyboards, piano). Vortex is a stunning, and passionate ride influenced by a variety of sounds such as rock, pop, jazz, and world music.

Starting off relatively strong, “Miles Beyond” is an all-around rocking song.  It has great atmospheric opening with the drums providing a sweltering tribal sound.  There is a sweet change in the sound about halfway through the song when things get noticeably heavier.  I like the song, and the guitar sounds amazing, but it could have been a tad shorter.  Following it up is “Awakening,” which is a very intriguing song with its mellow opening.  It is dazzling and wondrous rock song with soft, mystical quality running through it.

“Cuban Fly Zone” is the type of song where the electric energy is practically contagious, and the guitar work is flawless, which is the real staple of this release.  The sizzling “El Matador” sets itself apart with its Spanish flair, making it one of the more memorable and distinctive songs on the double album.  The piano driven “Eternal Love” is a complete change of pace, focusing on being subtle and emotional for a hauntingly beautiful result.

The next few songs take a more laidback approach to their sound.  “In a Cloud” is a light, upbeat track that is dreamlike in quality and the music of “Irish Cream” is as smooth as its name says. “Lady M (Our Love Remains)” is lovely, serene tune dedicated to his wife.  Airliner NS910” is a great rocking tune that is lively, with a funky jam quality to it.  The guitar completely tears things up.

“Tortured Souls” begin the second album and is a low-key tune that I find to be very relaxing. This could easily be the soundtrack to a picturesque dream. My slight criticism of it is that, with its run-time clocking in at over ten minutes, I think the song does go on for a bit too long.  “Schon & Hammer Now” is a stellar rock song.  The guitar sizzles and delights.  The changes in the music happen at the right time to keep the song engaging and prevents the song from becoming dull.

“NS Vortex” starts with a spacey opening, before a more manic rock sound takes over.  For some reason, I am reminded of a light show when listening to this.  The drums really heats things up near the end and steal the show. “Unspoken Faith” is short and serene. “Twilight – Spellbound” is another song with all the right touches.  The tonal shifts keeps the song exciting and unpredictable, and the guitar really cuts loose during the second part of the song.

“Mom” is a short and pleasant acoustic song. “Talk to Me” is a very eclectic song with a variety of sounds but it manages to work. There are some nice twists and turns in the music and things really step up in the last few minutes for an intense and breathtaking piece of work.  The somber “White Light” is a fitting and beautiful ending.

Neal Schon’s Vortex is nothing short of excellent and an instrumental tour de force.  The album is showing a master working at the top of his game.  Hardly a wrong move taken, save for a song or two that could have been shortened, Vortex is sure to please his fans.  There should be a place for this album in every rock fans collection.

Featured Track: Kerani - Equilibrium

Kerani composes and performs Neo Classical New Age music.

"Equilibrium" which is also the title of her latest release, is the focus here. The title says it all. We need balance and peace in our lives to be sensitive and aware human beings.

I listened to the track before embarking on my daily life and I can say very strongly that it did help me get in a good frame of mind and relax me to help face the coming day's challenges. I can also see how it would help me wind down once the day was through as well.

Listen to  "Equilibrium" you will be glad that you did!

Grammy Winner Neil Citron Releases Remastered Version of Debut CD “In Search Of Higher Ground”

Los Angeles - Declassified Records and SBI Music Inc. proudly announce the re-mastered release of “In Search Of Higher Ground”, the debut solo CD from Grammy winning guitarist, engineer and producer Neil Citron. Originally recorded in 1994, the digital versions of the record have been re-mastered from the original master tapes to further highlight the sonic beauty of this musical masterpiece.

The 13 track album also features Keyboardist Erik Norlander, Drummer Walter Garces, Tony Franklin on Fretless Bass, and one track with symphonic rock singer Lana Lane on vocals.

Neil Citron delivers an instrumental magnum opus of guitar virtuosity and acrobatics mixed with his familiar melodic sensibilities, all of which keeps his music with the listener long after the songs have stopped. His fluid yet commanding guitar style weaves through heavy rock arrangements with memorable phrasing and intrepid tonalities.

Joining Neil on “In Search Of Higher Ground” is veteran keyboardist Erik Norlander (Lana Lane, Rocket Scientists), whose growling Hammond organ and lush synthesizer, paint a vast and spacious sonic landscape behind the bold lead work of Citron's guitars.

Citron’s aggressive melodic lines coalesce with the undulating heavy rhythms from drummer Walter Garces (The Electric Prunes, BangTower), drawing in the listener with endless energy. Walter also appears with Neil (and Percy Jones) on the recent releases from the fusion trio BangTower and is known as “the L.A. Drum-Guru” having taught students at all levels for decades.

Accomplished rock bassist Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder, Kenny Wayne Shepherd), rounds out the ensemble. Franklin’s bass expertise is legendary in the rock world, and this album is no exception with fretless harmonies and grooves unique to the “Fretless Monster”.

Guest appearances by Joachim Cooder and Don Allen on percussion bring additional dimension to this timeless album.

Known for his amazing guitar work with such fantastic artists as BangTower, Quiet Riot, Lana Lane and others, Neil has also engineered and produced records for some of the greatest modern musicians including John 5, Slash, Joe Satriani, and John Waite. His work with Larry Carlton and Steve Lukather earned him his first Grammy in 2002 for the record "No Substitutions: Live in Osaka" (Best Contemporary Instrumental Album). Citron's expertise and talent is also in constant demand in the motion picture and television industry. He has contributed to several major films including "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", "Mama Mia", "That Thing You Do" with Oscar winner Tom Hanks and several films from Oscar winning producer Dino De Laurentiis. Neil has also engineered/produced numerous records and DVD's from guitarist Steve Vai.

Citron plays guitars by Tom Anderson and Ibanez. He also uses Red Plate Amps, Morley Pedals, DiMarzio Pickups and Dean Markley Strings to get his unique, signature tone that is both aggressive and liquid at the same time. His signature tones and amp setups are featured in several high end recording products from Line 6 and Waves.

Declassified Records is releasing a limited number of physical copies of the original CD pressing, along with the Digital versions recently re-mastered by Neil. This amazing instrumental record will be available at most major retailers on April 14, 2015 including iTunes, Amazon, CD-Baby and others. Guitar Virtuoso Scott Henderson To Release Instrumental Album For Guitar Trio “Vibe Station” on May 1, 2015!

“Henderson's guitar soars high, sometimes tender. Sophisticated, technical and soulful, his playing bristles with intelligence, never crossing the line into excess.”

Los Angeles, CA – Guitar virtuoso Scott Henderson has finished his new album “Vibe Station”, the most ambitious project of his career! The highly anticipated instrumental album for guitar trio will be released on May 1, 2015.

Says Scott, “I'm really excited about this record because our trio has been touring a lot and that energy came through on all the performances. The music is still blues-based, but also has a lot of harmonic content. The big change is no vocals, which challenged me as a guitarist to write material which can be played in a vocal way on the guitar, while incorporating my own chord-melody style. I think fans will enjoy the scope of this record because it has elements of blues, rock, jazz and funk. There's something for everyone here.”

Scott also said that the majority of the songs are layered with multi guitar tracks, utilizing many different guitars, pedals, amps and speaker combinations, making it the most textural and versatile sounding album he's ever done. Travis Carlton on bass and Alan Hertz on drums make this project and live show very much groove-based.

Says Scott, “I need to see people moving in their seats. I'm not interested on putting on an intellectual show for musicians only. I don't believe I need to dumb down the music to appeal to people who aren't musicians, because when Travis and Alan play together, the groove is going to attack you whether you're a musician or not”.

Scott Henderson's impressive work over the years as co-leader of the group TRIBAL TECH, leader of his own ground breaking trio, and sideman to some of the best jazz artists of their generation, including the great Joe Zawinul, has elevated him to the front ranks of both Jazz and Blues. Besides being a world class player and premier composer, Scott's trademark is his beautiful tone and striking ability to blend Blues, Rock, Funk, and Jazz, creating a soulful and unique voice on the guitar.

Expect to hear Scott on the top of his game on his April 2015 Europe tour.

Scott Henderson's “Vibe Station will be available for purchase on CDBaby and iTunes May 1, 2015:

New York City Based Serbian-Japanese Instrumental Duo Yagull Greatly Expands Their Post Rock Chamber Soundtrack Concept On Second Album 'Kai', Featuring Extraordinary Multicultural Line-up Of Guests

“These super chill yet richly evocative instrumentals achieve a transporting, cinematic quality.” - Time Out New York, USA

“Instrumental music doesn't get much classier.”
- Raymond Benson, Progression, USA

“Pure, moving, cinematic, and unearthly beautiful!” - RootsTime, Belgium

New York, NY - Yagull's official debut for MoonJune Records, 'Kai', finds the band expanding its post-rock chamber soundtrack concept to great effect. The result is a simmering sonic bouillabaisse, chocked full of choice ingredients which delectably merge to blur the lines drawn by traditional genres - delightfully teasing the palette, while appealing to an expansive range of music aficionados! The group delivers twelve songs on this joyous outing: eight brand new compositions; two tunes from Films, reworked and revisited; plus, two tastefully-revised classic rock covers. The tracks showcase Yagull's considerably potent stylistic capacity, making for a savory, finely-polished sophomore release. This new effort finds Yagull now launching itself from a duo framework - with Sasha Markovic being joined by the extraordinary pianist, Kana Kamitsubo - this most special of occasions is perfectly accentuated by a host of guest contributors; featuring fellow MoonJune international recording maestros, Beledo (guitar, lute), Dewa Budjana (guitar) and Marko Djordjevic (drums), and many other great musicians. With 'Kai', Sasha, Kana & company have embarked on a majestic journey that will appeal to a broad range of listeners... and carry them along for the ride!

'Kai,' represents big musical and personal changes for group founder, composer, producer, and guitarist, Sasha Markovic. Yagull has officially became a duo with the addition of Sasha's most challenging collaborator up until this time, pianist extraordinaire Kana Kamitsubo. Sasha and Kana's partnership went further as they became husband and wife. Album 'Kai' and the title track are named after their son born in 2014.

Picking up where the first Yagull CD, 'Films' left off in 2012, 'Kai' expands the post rock chamber soundtrack concept exploring new structures written around acoustic guitar, bass, percussion and acoustic piano. Yagull as a duo has an increased crossover potential for attracting listeners that may not be dialed into any of the specific genres baked into this release.

Yagull delivers eight brand new compositions, two tunes from 'Films' revisited ( Dark, Sound Of M ) plus two covers for this sophomore release. The tracks range from “North” which exploits Kana's mastery of creating evocative mood and space for Sasha to play, folksy “Z-Parrow” while “Omniprism” drifts into progressive rock ambiance. Methenyesque tune “Blossom”, leaves space for special guest Dewa Budjana to shine with another beautiful, lyrical solo. The title track for their son emotes a melody that can easily go alongside “Waltz for Debby” by Bill Evans in any play list. Sasha once again wears his affection for classic rock as a badge reworking the Free song, “Wishing Well”, which was also passionately performed by the late Gary Moore, as well as Deep Purple's “Burn”. Beledo's majestic lute introduction pays a homage to Deep Purple's live version from the 'Made In Europe' record.

Regarding the cover material, Sasha recently explained to DME, “My first serious music love was Deep Purple, since I heard the 'Deepest Purple' compilation along with ‘Rainbow Rising' at age of 11. I’ve been playing 'Burn' in the similar arrangement for fun for many years now. It started as a joke when I was a teenager, and played it along with a friend of mine in a two-guitar arrangement with Zappa-like kind of vocal approach. When I presented this idea to Kana [Kamitsubo] last year, she gave the song completely new dimension with her playful piano solos. We are having a lot of fun playing it live these days. As for 'Wishing Well', I am a huge fan of Free and Bad Company and had to do the tribute to them on this album. I still consider Free the best teenage band that ever lived - since they were all between 16-18 when they started. 'Wishing Well' is one of those songs I grew up on and always liked singing for fun with my acoustic guitar. I just experimented with replacing the vocal parts with classical guitar, and at the end Wen Chang added her violin playing the main riff, so the basic album arrangement was born. Always loved Gary Moore's and Blackfoot's take on it, too. I had a chance meeting with Simon Kirke this summer, and got to play him the song, and he loved it.”

Yagull are also joined by several guest musicians, the extraordinary and diverse line up hailing from eight different countries, including fellow Moonjune international recording artists Beledo (guitar), Dewa Budjana (guitar) and Marko Djordjevic (drums), as well as the long time collaborator flutist Lori Reddy, Anthony Mullin from The Blackfires (guitar), Jackson Kincheloe from Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds ( harmonica ), Gabriel Nat (clarinet), Wen Chang (violin) and Yoshiki Yamada (upright bass). 'Kai' has set Yagull on a journey that will appeal to wide range of listeners. This is essential MoonJune music.

Here's what the press have raved about Yagull:

“Pure, moving, cinematic, and unearthly beautiful!” - RootsTime, Belgium

“Killer stuff the adult ears can't help but love. Hot Stuff!” - Midwest Record, USA

“Delectable acoustic collage of melody and subtle nuance. 'Kai' is a winner!” - Sea Of Tranquility, USA

“These super chill yet richly evocative instrumentals achieve a transporting, cinematic quality.” - Time Out New York, USA

“Instrumental music doesn't get much classier.” - Raymond Benson, Progression, USA
