Bay Area Music Ensemble 'On Dolphin' To Release Debut Album “LAYERS” on Vinyl - July 22, 2016

Music to take you out of the grind and into the flow

San Francisco - Bay Area music ensemble On Dolphin will be releasing their debut album “LAYERS” on vinyl on July 22, 2016! Fronted by Melissa Lyn, the band's music has been described as “Indie rock for people that are hopeful and curious.” The band's new album explores the evolutions of ideas from curiosity and experience to beliefs and knowledge. And, finding comfort within the structures of family and community while making space to be.

After years of playing solo acoustic shows, Melissa dusted off her electric guitar and teamed up with her husband, engineer and producer Ryan Clark to create On Dolphin's debut full length album “LAYERS” to be released on vinyl July 22, 2016. The band's influences include Spoon, Aimee Mann, Cat Power, Billie Holiday, Jets to Brazil, Belle & Sebastian & Des Ark.

“The sounds range from straight forward rock on the opening track 'more good days', the thick drum beat and dreamy soundscape of 'dance in the kitchen', to the textured and orchestral dynamics of 'New York' and title track 'Layers'.” - FalafelRockNews

“LAYERS” - This album was born in a barn - Melissa Lyn

“Fresh out of a relationship and laid off from my day job, I left the city on a series of travels and adventures, landing in a Barn in Northern California. I was settling into my new home, reflecting on poems and sounds from my trip to Africa, when I finished writing the title track 'Layers' and the following song 'Worth the Drive'. I was exploring the contrasting layers of traditions and comfort amidst new beliefs and landscapes.

“In The Barn, I was surrounded by 360 degrees of nature, with horses downstairs and chickens outside.  It was peaceful and inspiring and I was writing a lot. The songs 'Dance in the Kitchen' and 'Inventing Fences' are stories of my assimilation into the new space and the community that was quickly growing around me. I became very active in the local music scene attending weekly open mics. One night, at Bazaar Cafe I met Ryan Clark. It was a pleasant meeting, though neither of us predicted that we would marry exactly one year later.

“Ryan was building his recording business and helped me prepare and complete my first solo EP 'Roads'.  We set up a part-time recording studio in the bedroom at The Barn. Friends and band mates joined us for retreat-style recording. 'Together' and 'Laugh it Off 'are a tribute to a community of musicians working together to bring songs and ideas to life.

“We married and moved into a tiny room in the city of San Francisco, a huge transition from the country space that The Barn provided. Writing continued to be the best way to identify new feelings and reflect on joys and pains. 'Slowdown' and 'More Good Days' represent the challenges of a crowded city life. I made space for myself in Yogic chanting and joined the Vak Choir project. 'Let a Little Light' was born as I explored my breath and sound in a new way.

“We found more space in a larger apartment down the road and began building our life, and this album, together. Ryan is an amazing producer and multi-instrumentalist. His arrangements and vision really brought these songs to life.

“To say that our friends' vocal and instrumental talents added color and texture to these recordings is an understatement. These folks add color and texture to our lives. The support in the San Francisco songwriting community is like super food to a developing musician. The contrasting layers culminate in New York. A 'coming home' song about Love & Frustration, Wanderlust & Home.”

“Worthy of a Quentin Tarantino film, 'Worth The Drive,' by On Dolphin is worth the listen.” - Indie Shuffle

San Francisco Political Singer/Songwriter Pete Kronowitt Releases New Full-Length Album

A Lone Voice Delivers Timely and Salient Political Message

San Francisco, CA – The hunger Americans feel for change is palpable, and no artist voices this urgency better than San Francisco-based Pete Kronowitt, a seasoned singer/songwriter who is releasing his fourth full-length album, A Lone Voice. Pete’s emotive songs fuse acoustic pop and indie-folk, while evoking an era when music was made to battle injustice. A Lone Voice, releasing worldwide on July 15th, 2016, masterfully explores themes ranging from socio-political struggles to musings on the human condition. His sound is a Steve Earle-Elvis Costello hybrid, a heap of Alt-Americana influences.

The album was recorded and produced in Nashville, Tennessee by Grammy-winning songwriter Phil Madeira, with backing musicians David Mansfield on guitars, mandolin and violin, Dennis Holt on drums and percussion, Chris Donohue on bass, and of course, Phil Madeira on guitars and keys. A Lone Voice features a set of lyrical new songs spanning folk, pop, country, and acoustic-punk influences from the Ramones to Pete Seeger and John Mellencamp.

A Lone Voice stays upbeat, despite presenting some uncomfortable truths and lifting the curtain to reveal political and media manipulation. Audiences will join the chorus of the title track “Change Is Gonna Come” (inspired from Sam Cooke's iconic song) and tap to the beat of the album’s protest anthem “Got Guns?” Through his music, Kronowitt pokes fun at the absurdity of extremism and reminds us, the power of change is always here and now – within ourselves.

There are also intimate, personal moments in this collection, drawing connections between the national zeitgeist and the all-too-human emotional toll it takes on those we love. The smooth and Clapton-esque “You Are Here” reminds listeners (and Pete himself) to be present. “Holding Your Hand” is a gift for his wife after 20 years together, and the tender, album-closing “Perfect Day” is a moving tribute to his sister, who took her own life. “Tears on the Back of Her Head,” co-written with producer Phil Madeira, was written for two friends lost to cancer and their spouses, and may be the most stirring track on A Lone Voice.

Pete Kronowitt has toured internationally in China, Japan, and Vietnam, and across the U.S. in the last few years with long-time friend, collaborator, and 30-year veteran bassist John David Coppola. John, who has toured with The Danny Morris Band, was integral on Pete’s debut album Phases of the Heart. That album was recorded in 1993 at Rutabaga Studios with John Alagia, whose production credits include the Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, and Ben Folds Five. Kronowitt’s second and third albums, Threads and elements, were produced by Pete Snell, who toured extensively with Lyle Lovett.

With an unwavering belief that together, we can raise our voices to demand common sense solutions, Pete reminds us, “The people of these great United States are bound by the many things we have in common, and we must reject any manufactured issues which are cynically created simply to divide us.” With his revolutionary new album, A Lone Voice, Pete Kronowitt has called for a rediscovery of the protest song…and not a moment too soon.

Pete Kronowitt will be performing a CD Release party and delivering his strong political messages to the Agora Theater and Ballroom in Cleveland, OH ahead of the Republican National Convention this July 18-21, 2016.

There will also be various gigs throughout 2016 in the San Francisco Bay Area and across the West Coast.

A ‘One Woman’ Show - Radclyffe Hall To Premiere New Video “Rather Be” On Post-Punk.com

Los Angeles, CA – The Bostonian indie/dance/electronic/funk/pop group Radclyffe Hall was selected as Band Of The Day on the music & culture website post-punk.com and will be premiering a new video for the song "Rather Be" on the site. "Rather Be" is the second single from Radclyffe Hall’s groundbreaking new album, Ghosts, available now at all digital retailers from Cleopatra Records.

"Rather Be" stars the group’s founder and front-woman, Dhy Berry, and begins with the entrance of two identically, professionally dressed versions of herself. As the two unenthusiastically take a seat at the judge’s table, a five-piece band of suspiciously similar looking women begin to play the unforgettable groove of “Rather Be.” Over the course of the performance toes begin to tap and the judges’ expressions shift from apathetic to inspired. At the close of the tune, with a fitting response from the judges, we see Dhy’s journey of self-actualization completed.

Watch the video here: http://www.post-punk.com/band-of-the-day-radclyffe-hall-premiere-the-video-for-the-single-rather-be/

Or view it on Dailymotion and subscribe to our channel: http://www.dailymotion.com/CleopatraRecords

Radclyffe Hall began in Boston as an experiment in analog and digital production. Steeped in rock, funk, and R&B, Dhy Berry started developing groove-heavy demos before developing them into fully fledged pop songs. Turning fear into agency and loss into catharsis, RH makes glo-fi anthems for the bedroom and the dance floor alike. This energy can be heard throughout the new album, Ghosts, as Berry wrote many of the songs while working toward a graduate degree. No surpise then that Berry chose to name the group after a highly influential English poet in lesbian literature. This tumultuous time in Berry’s life resulted in a rich body of work that can be heard on both “Rather Be” and Ghosts.

Track Feature: Rachael Sage -Try, Try, Try

Rachel Sage's most recent release Choreographic was released at the end of April this year. Among some of the more catchy and attractive cuts was "Try, Try, Try."

I am familiar with her work and have enjoyed it in the past and this one track is so energetic and unforgettable that you will want to hear a lot more than just one time.

There are snappy hook fills from the six string and a violin to give it an Americana edge. When all is said and done it turns out to be a marvelous combination of pop and rock.

Give it a listen and leave your thoughts!

Keith "MuzikMan" Hannaleck

Rachael Sage is an American singer-songwriter and producer, visual artist, and founded her own record label at the dawn of her musical career. Indie Rock Superstars Salute The Thin White Duke With All New Interpretations Of David Bowie’s Best!

Features performances by Kittie, Dum Dum Girls, Electric Six, Rogue Wave, Heartless Bastards, The Muffs and more!

Los Angeles, CA - David Bowie’s career has been defined by his unique ability to make artistically complex and challenging music sound like mainstream pop…ok, maybe pop music from an entirely different planet, but pop music all the same. As a result, the definition of rock music has expanded; Bowie never went mainstream, the mainstream always came to him. For these reasons and more, he is one of the most deeply revered and profoundly influential artists in modern rock. And nowhere can Bowie’s influence be felt more than in the world of indie rock, where bands and artists have taken Bowie’s fiercely independent streak, commitment to artistic integrity, and a diverse array of musical styles into the 21st century and beyond. Now, a truly impressive gathering of indie and modern rockers have gathered to pay tribute to the man with A Salute To The Thin White Duke - The Songs Of David Bowie to be released on both CD & vinyl as well as mp3s on October 2 courtesy of Cleopatra Records.

Among the participants is the all-girl alt metal Canadian quartet Kittie who expressed a sentiment shared by many of the artists here, “We are so excited to be able to contribute to this amazing tribute album. ‘Space Oddity’ is arguably one of David Bowie's most well known songs so we put all of our efforts into doing all of its intricacies justice, while still retaining our signature, heavy sound.’ Meanwhile, Detroit’s own Electric Six made no bones about their preferred Bowie era, saying “We had to do ‘80s Bowie because frankly, we couldn't trust the earlier Bowie. And the ‘90s Bowie is, well…So ‘80s Bowie was the one for us, and ‘Blue Jean’ was just sitting there waiting for us to club the shit out of it, and, man, did we club it!” Similarly, Zach from Rogue Wave had this to say of “Modern Love,” the song that opens the album, “My favorite Bowie song from his tailored suit era. All that uptempo beat and those chugging horns couldn't hide the sadness of what it means to come down to earth.”

Jared Artaud from The Vacant Lots succinctly expressed the challenges of approaching Bowie’s music, “It’s hard to touch Bowie. He’s an architect. What he’s done, you can’t make it better, so we wanted to reconceptualize it & approach the song from another point of view.” And The Tulips offer this entirely accurate description, “Covering a Bowie tune was like jumping into a cab and realizing there's a tiger sitting shotgun, and no one says a word.” A wild ride indeed! And fans of Bowie will find this collection of covers equally as thrilling!

Single Review - 'Rocket' By JUPE

Jupe craft infectious pop songs that have that annoying habit of staying in your consciences for a considerable amount of time. The band who hail from Ireland sound more like an American boy band then a collection of grafting males.

Their new single ‘Rocket’ combines elements of Maroon 5 and One Republic with nods to other notable boy bands of the era. Sonically it is relatively average, with major chord synths and single not bass lines. The star of this song is the vocals. The vocal line has a pop quality, basically meaning it is easy and refreshing to listen to

This music isn’t music you think about or contemplate, its more background music or music you play in the car. Jupe are a band that parents would be happy to send their kids to their gigs. There’s nothing dangerous or rock n roll about it, just good, honest pop music.

Jupe – Rocket Single Review

‘Rocket’ is the latest single from Irish pop troubadours Jupe. The band crafts a seamless brand of pop rock that has a wide appeal and is their ticket to worldwide stardom.

“Rocket’ has an infectious groove and am easy to listening to vocal line. It’s not anything dazzling but in terms of pop it does standout from the rest of nonsensical boy band aesthetics.

The tune has a great groove, the musicians are tight with the drums and the bass laying a solid foundation from which the vocals can bounce of. The synth adds a level of power pop to the track giving it a bit of an 90s RnB feel.

The band have got a distinct sound that in theory could propel them to a more engaging and wide audience. Time will tell if Jupe can make it happen.

Rocket is to buy on iTunes now
