Featured Track: Souleye - Wildman (Ft. Lynx)

Souleye is a home boy from Sturbridge, Massachusetts!  It's great to hear such an innovative artist hailing from my home state.

Our featured track is "Wildman (Ft. Lynx)." It is a marvelous concoction of pop, hip hop, rap and a few slices of R & B for some extra mojo.

I generally do not care for the rap or hip hop but when it's done tastefully with a mixture of different styles of music then it has a chance. In this case I actually loved it! The combination of the beautiful vocals of a young lady and Souleye really finds a way to get under your skin, in a good way.

Check out the Soundcloud stream, this is music that defines "out of the box."

FEATURED TRACK: Fiona Joy - Galloping from Into the Mist

Fiona Joy gives us a taste of her most recent release Into The Mist with the video stream titled "Galloping."

The piano takes center stage and Fiona orchestrates yet another beautiful piece via the ivory keys. This time we get images of the artist floating through the air and sounds adorned in satins.

The music is as delicate and soft as the clothing she is wearing. Fiona is dancing to the music and thereby becomes the music with her movements and expressions. It is like the ballet of her soul on display.

"Galloping" is like a painting on canvas brought to life through sound and movements.

Featured Track: Alexi Musnitsky-Dream Catcher

Alexi Musnitsky's debut album Zia features many memorable piano based tracks. "Dream Catcher" is one track, which is the closer for the album, that runs for over seven minutes.

His grace and flow on the keys are focused and determined on the track. It is a perfect example of how one instrument can pull you into another dimension.

I had the pleasure of covering the entire album however it is interesting to zone in on one track to recognize the talent of an artist. Alexi has a bright future ahead. Have a listen to "Dream Catcher" now.

Featured Track: Jeffrey Seeman- Jackie's Grace

Jeffrey Seeman's new release Everything In Between features a fine guitar player doing his best to capture your imagination with sound alone.

A good example of that is the track "Jackie's Grace," when his acoustic guitar resonates with a warmth and energy that is just too hard to resist. The twangy reverberating guitar is clear and consistent throughout and a pleasure to listen to.

One of my favorite acoustic guitar players is Adrian Legg and his sound reminded me of that very fondly.

Check out "Jackie's Grace" for yourself and you be the judge.

Featured Track: The Humble Grapes-Brooklyn Bridge

There are so many great artists that never get our attention or "make it." That is one of the crimes of the century from my perspective.

Then there is that one band that is brought to your attention that you say "Wow, why haven't I heard of this band? They are great!" Well I have one for you that fits that description right now.

The Humble Grapes are David Kaufman and Brie Capone on the amazing track "Brooklyn Bridge." This is music that will mesmerize you and sweep you away. When I first heard it I knew it was good and by the third listen and after watching the video, I was totally taken by this wonderful sound. The track builds and builds to an apex to make its point musically and lyrically. For this listener it has "hit" written all over it. Help it to become one music fans! Listen and watch and then you decide.

Track Spotlight: Dan Chadburn-Keys of Light

Dan Chadburn has created some gorgeous music on his new release Keys of Light. The title track is the focus of this feature. It pulls and tugs on your heartstrings, it is both beautiful and majestic as Chadburn's fingers caress the ivory keys.

I first heard this after looking at pictures of myself and my daughter when she was little and it brought a river of tears. Although I felt saddened by her recent departure (another bird spreads their wings and leaves the nest), the music was therapeutic. For me this is called "feel then heal." So as pain is released and we move on and to become better people through listening to music that brings us closer to our creator and the people we love.

Dan Chadburn has a gift and if you listen you will most certainly receive it most gratefully. Here are one of the many keys of light he offers you...

(Artist Bio From Reverb Nation Artist Page

Sweeping melodies, resonating chords and rich textures … these are the trademarks of Dan Chadburn, a composer/pianist who invests the New Age / adult contemporary genre with a uniquely passionate sound.

A native of Oregon, Dan began taking piano lessons when he was nine years old and continued through high school where he also served as the accompanist for the choral groups and stage plays. Several times in junior high and high school, he was selected as an Oregon Music Teacher's Association (O.M.T.A.) syllabus winner, which resulted in his performing in recitals on the state level. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance at Pacific Lutheran University, where he studied with Dr. Calvin Knapp. Following three national tours as a pianist and singer/songwriter, Chadburn moved to Los Angeles and enrolled in the Film Scoring Program at UCLA. Soon he was scoring for television and working as a session musician.

Wanting to further expand his musical vision, Dan moved to London and studied ElectroAcoustic Composition under two pioneers in the field, Denis Smalley and Simon Emmerson. “I was very grateful for the opportunity to learn from these two masters in the genre and grow as a composer. This was a non-traditional form of composition that some would say was on the outskirts of avant-garde. In this genre, traditional instruments and melody are frequently absent. My primary focus was to record odd sounds, transform them with audio processing, and insert them into symphonic works. For one piece, 'Dreams,' I recorded and altered sounds made by various kitchen items such as jelly beans dropped into a bowl, spatulas hitting cake pans, water shaken in a jar, portable oven timers, etc., ultimately creating a surreal collage of sound to represent what one might hear and see after falling asleep." Chadburn earned his Masters of Music degree in ElectroAcoustic Composition from London’s City University.

Chadburn’s performance venues have included Carnegie Hall in New York City, Symphony Hall in Boston and The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Additionally, his choral compositions have been recorded and performed in the Concert Hall of The Kennedy Center.

After moving to the Washington, DC, area, Chadburn recorded hundreds of improvisational piano pieces which led to his first album, solo piano. The Washington Area Music Association nominated the album for “Best New Age Recording” in the WAMA Awards, and Chadburn was nominated for “Best New Age Instrumentalist.” His second recording, Reflections, included other musicians on viola, French horn, flute and English horn, plus on one track the singing of Tom Nichols, Chadburn’s husband, longtime musical partner and producer. Chadburn's Nocturnes, again with additional instrumentation, earned a WAMA nomination for "Best Classical Recording" while Chadburn was nominated as "Best Classical Instrumentalist."

Chadburn has been featured (alongside other pianists such as Suzanne Ciani, Spencer Brewer and Robin Spielberg) on several compilation recordings produced for charitable causes, including The Heart Aid Project which benefited the victims of the 9/11 tragedy and their families. Among Chadburn’s other special projects was a single, “Promise of Hope,” he wrote and recorded for a philanthropic program run by Choice Hotels International and benefiting The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington and Metropolitan Baltimore. With Nocturnes Chadburn continued to donate to worthwhile causes. Proceeds from “Peter’s Theme” on that album are donated to The Peter Fox Project which in turn benefits the Sitar Arts Center in Washington, an after-school youth organization for the arts. In addition, the tune “Anne’s Lullaby” benefits The National Family Resiliency Center “to preserve a sense of family and foster healthy relationships.” In both 2014 and 2015, Chadburn and his husband, Tom Nichols, performed benefit concerts to raise funds for the Florence Area Humane Society (a “no kill” shelter) in Oregon.

Chadburn is a classically-trained pianist who found he enjoyed improvisational creations as much as playing traditional repertoire. Now he uses improvisation to compose most of his material on piano (and occasionally on electronic keyboards). For the albums, Nocturnes and Reflections (which also feature additional instruments), Chadburn created the arrangements and scored the parts played by the other musicians. For the album, Keys of Light, Chadburn included one piano improvisation on James Pankow's "Colour My World," while composing and orchestrating the remainder of the album, performing it entirely himself using a Yamaha 7' grand piano, a Kurzweil PC3K8 synthesizer, and East West Symphonic Orchestra (sound library).

Keys of Light is Dan Chadburn’s fifth album. Keys of Light, solo piano, Reflections, Nocturnes and Whispers the Falling Snow are available at his website (DanChadburn.com) and as CDs and digital downloads at a variety of online sales sites including CDbaby, Amazon, iTunes, eMusic and many others. Nocturnes reached #8 on the Top 100 Zone Music Reporter chart (measuring radio airplay worldwide) and stayed on the chart for nine months. Whispers the Falling Snow debuted at #7, staying on the ZMR Top 100 chart for multiple months. Whispers the Falling Snow was nominated as ZMR's Top Solo Piano album of 2014. Additionally, Reviews New Age selected it as one of the Top 10 holiday recordings worldwide for 2014. Both Nocturnes and Whispers the Falling Snow were nominated as best recordings ("Piano with Instrumentation" and "Solo Piano" categories, respectively) for the One World Music Awards in June, 2015.

Over the years Chadburn has been inspired by the music of John Williams, Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Claude Debussy, Frederic Chopin, Sergei Prokofiev, Itzhak Perlman, Vladimir Ashkenazy, John Barry, George Winston, Mary Ann Redmond, and Tom Nichols.

Featured Track: Kerani - Equilibrium

Kerani composes and performs Neo Classical New Age music.

"Equilibrium" which is also the title of her latest release, is the focus here. The title says it all. We need balance and peace in our lives to be sensitive and aware human beings.

I listened to the track before embarking on my daily life and I can say very strongly that it did help me get in a good frame of mind and relax me to help face the coming day's challenges. I can also see how it would help me wind down once the day was through as well.

Listen to  "Equilibrium" you will be glad that you did!

Featured Track: Heidi Breyer-Touchstone

My philosophy is "Let the music move you." If you have that kind of mindset just before you hit play, the music can do so many things for you.

Music is healing and spiritual and Heidi Breyer makes music that comes from her soul.

Heidi Comments: Our lives acquire the deepest meaning when we have love in our hearts and when we discover that we are loved by someone else. That love becomes our "Touchstone."

On her new album Letters From Far Away and the amazingly expressive track "Touchstone," the beauty of life and love blossom through her fingers via the ivory keys. Listen to the stream and let it take you to another place....

Featured Track: Gordon Weiss-I'm Your Fan

It has been 7 years since Gordon Weiss released an album. It's About Time says it all! Once again musician and studio wizard Jeff Cannata is behind the mixing board for the recording.

"I'm Your Fan" is one of the most colorful and expressive tracks on the album. There is truth and humor surrounding the story and its accompanied by some great pop rock music.

As I recall from my previous experience with Mr. Weiss, he knows how to spin a yarn and add just the right touch from a musical standpoint to come up with an entertaining mixture for your senses.

"I'm Your Fan" hits the bulls-eye of your heart and soul. Give it a listen and I guarantee a smile will come to your face.

Keith "MuzikMan" Hannaleck-Rating 4/5 Stars

More About Gordon Weiss:
http://www.gornpop.com

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Gordon Weiss made his debut musical performance miming on the recorder along with the other third graders, which made him vow to learn to play an instrument for real. His first true foray into the world of music took the form of studying classical trumpet for eight years, culminating in two performances at Carnegie Hall with the New York City All-City Band. It was deja-vu when he stood up for a trumpet fanfare to find that his mouthpiece had fallen out backstage.

By then Gordon had been bitten by the Beatle bug and his love for clever songwriting with strong melodic hooks took over full force. But it was the power chords of Pete Townshend and The Who that made him give up the trumpet and pick up an old acoustic guitar, which he promptly stripped of two strings so he could play along with all of John Entwistle’s bass lines. Gordon soon acquired a proper bass and played in bands in high school and college, before adding a Stratocaster to his collection, which prompted his first attempts at singing and songwriting.

Realizing that playing in bands with names like “Dead Grotty” would unlikely lead to a record deal, Gordon went to medical school and eventually became a child psychiatrist. He relocated to Connecticut and continued to feed his cravings for classic rock and pop music, with healthy doses of Elvis Costello, Squeeze, XTC, Crowded House, Jellyfish, Honeydogs, and Candy Butchers, while amassing a catalog of his own songs that he played at occasional impromptu gigs, open mikes, or family gatherings.

A thoughtful gift of drum lessons to help him learn to really bang out some of those Neil Peart licks he had always air drummed along to, led to forming a musical friendship with great session drummer Greg Trabandt of RVP Studios. After hearing of Gordon’s unfulfilled dream to make a record of his original music, Greg not only introduced Gordon to veteran producer Jeff Cannata, but agreed to play drums on all the tracks of Sum Of Its Parts. Featuring brilliant contributions from ace keyboard player Jeff Batter and soaring vocal harmonies from Pete Hodson and Bill Welch of Z-Plan, Gordon wanted to keep this first solo album personal by playing the rest of the instruments himself. The album was released on Gornpop Records, a nickname for Gordon referencing an affection for a large, albiet very slow, lizard from Star Trek.

A world tour did not follow. But thanks to The Weirdo Mike Viola Superfan StageIt Group, a wonderfully supportive community of fans, many of whom are fellow musicians, Gordon kept writing and playing online live performances, including a performance of side 2 of Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band in its entirety with support from his daughters and nephews. After a seven year hiatus, Gornpop Records is pleased to announce the release of It’s About Time featuring nine new original songs.

Mary-Kathryn's vocals and music are a superb blend of new age and world accentuated to perfection with her crystal clear emotive vocals on "Hear My Cry."

Delving deep into the world music realm, Mary-Kathryn paints word pictures on an aural canvas with exotic instrumentation, adroit production, and lyrics that stir the spirit and excite the imagination. But as one Billboard Magazine reviewer so aptly put it, “the most affecting instrument…is Mary-Kathryn’s lovely voice.”

“Hear My Cry,” the opening number of the 10-song album, begins acapella, relying solely on Mary-Kathryn’s fetching vocals to engage the listener, before segueing into driving, rhythmic percussions and understated strings. earthy instrumentation with ethereal vocals to produce a visceral,
vicarious spiritual encounter.

Featured Track: The D/A Method-Janissaries

The D/A Method hails from Karachi Pakistan and however far you may be away from where they reside, there is no distance between them, listeners, and their own brand of progressive rock. Music is universal like that, its makes us one world, a union of souls with a love for music.

With their recently released taster EP Janissarieswhich is the focus of this feature, they serve up over 9 minutes of rockin' progressive diversity. I think if they were looking to show what they bring to the table this was a good choice.

The track features marvelous instrumentation, an ever changing pace and fantastic vocals. It's the whole package. This clearly defines progressive rock in every way.
