Multicultural European Singer-Songwriter EMILY JOHNSON Releases Her Debut EP OPEN YOUR HEART Produced By NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN

“She has an extraordinary voice, superb.” - John Mclaughlin

San Rafael, CA - Sometimes known as “The Lady of Heart,” EMILY JOHNSON is a Bulgarian-born Nigerian singer, songwriter, and composer. Having performed around the world for many years, she is releasing OPEN YOUR HEART, her debut EP, on May 11, 2018, with the help of Tarpan Records in the United States. This EP was produced by NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN and features 4 original songs.

EMILY JOHNSON was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, at a time when the country was still under the influence of the Soviet Union. Her mother is Bulgarian and her father Nigerian, a mix which made her quite different from the other children in her own neighborhood and even her own country. Different by color, but also different in her heightened sensitivity which is expressed so wonderfully in her music.

“Open your heart,” EMILY JOHNSON sings on her soon to be released debut EP of the same name. To her this statement is more than words; it is a way of life. On this release of original songs, she creates her art with something beyond passion, giving herself to her audience with a great generosity, energy, and sincerity. Emily brings others together to ignore prejudices, erase borders, and overcome difficulties. She shares with them a simple pleasure which is to SING!

Emily has been fortunate to work with some music industry greats, including the incredible guitarist John McLaughlin who invited her on stage for an emotional performance of “Redemption Song.” Another is the world famous, Grammy Award-winning American producer NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN (Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin), who graciously opened the doors of his Tarpan Studios to produce OPEN YOUR HEART.

Ever since John McLaughlin discovered EMILY JOHNSON on stage on the Côte d'Azur, the Mahavishnu Orchestra founder has consistently praised her as an artist he already considers “a star.” Emily would certainly reply that she also owes much of her success to his friendship and support. John McLaughlin says, “If one day EMILY JOHNSON is on the top of the charts, it will be because of her talent. She has an extraordinary voice, superb. She has it all! An inner and outer beauty. She can sing everything.”

Emily appreciates this immense compliment coming from an artist with such a career. “He is more than a musician; John McLaughlin is a Legend and a great friend and I am so blessed to know him!” she says. They have performed together several times both live and in the studio. Their relationship is more than beautiful; it is strong, sincere and much more than words.

Even better, John invited EMILY JOHNSON to cross the Atlantic to join NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN, the former Mahavishnu Orchestra drummer who became one of Billboard Magazine’s Top Ten Producers of all time. “John has opened up new horizons for me,” says Emily. “He is not only a friend but also my Light.” “The Light,” as she sings on the track from OPEN YOUR HEART that she wrote and dedicated to him.

OPEN YOUR HEART features some amazing performances, with NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN playing many instruments and featuring performances by Chris “Heist” Walden (Keyboards/Electronic Drums, “Open Your Heart”), Jim Reitzel (Guitar, “Open Your Heart”), and Cornell “CC” Carter and Deedee Simon (Back-up Vocals, “The Light” and “Open Your Heart”). The song “I’m Blessed” features Rapper G-Dub. OPEN YOUR HEART was recorded at Tarpan Studios by Jim Reitzel and mixed by Dave Frasier.

Today this beautiful story continues with new collaborations on both sides of the Atlantic and with the release of her first project, simply titled OPEN YOUR HEART. An obvious choice, isn't it?

Power Pop Trio ACTING NATURAL Featured on iHEART RADIO Ahead of the Release of Their New ACTING NATURAL EP

Showcasing a Fresh Sound with Raw Rock & Roll Roots!

NYC - ACTING NATURAL lead singer & guitarist Eric Carnevale, bass guitarist/vocalist James David Maney, and drummer/vocalist Jesse Leonard are fueled by a mutual interest in bringing back the authenticity of raw Rock & Roll music. Their new ACTING NATURAL EP is a stunning debut that proves they have aligned their unwavering dedication to creating quality music with a signature sound. The ACTING NATURAL EP will have a worldwide digital release on September 22, 2017, followed by a physical CD release on October 20, 2017. Coinciding with the digital release, ACTING NATURAL will be attending the iHeartMusic Festival on September 22 in Las Vegas, NV.

ACTING NATURAL released their first single “Pairadice” and the response was incredible, reaching #1 on the Top 5 Most Added and reached #9 on the FMQB A/C Chart. ACTING NATURAL’s unique sound is focused on passion and solid musicianship, and their inspirations range from legendary artists of the past and present, including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Led Zeppelin, and The Beatles, just to name a few.

This young trio, originally from Tampa, Florida, and each a multi-instrumentalist with refreshingly down-to-earth dispositions, started their journey together at the age of just 13 years old. They began writing and recording original material not long after, instinctively creating a fresh sound with Rock & Roll roots and modern vibes. Singing three-part harmonies, their distinctive blend of music and lyrics is drawn from personal inspirations and experiences, allowing the band to be fully expressive and creative in their songwriting. The band recently re-located to New York, and they are thrilled about what the future holds.

The making of the new ACTING NATURAL EP was an exciting process for the band, who loves recording and just being in the studio atmosphere. “It’s a very magical place,” says lead singer Eric Carnevale. “We selected some songs of ours that we had recently laid down on a demo, and wanted to go in and really record them properly.” They called up their good friend / engineer Jim Morris, owner of Morrisound Recording in Tampa, FL, and got to work on the first few tracks of the EP.

The sessions were filled with memorable moments and strong efforts from the whole group. During the recording process, they ended up writing a few brand-new songs in the studio, which led to the writing and the recording being finished all within the same session. The whole project was a joint effort, with JD playing some great bass, Jesse laying down the drums, and both harmonizing with Eric on lead vocals and guitar/piano/percussion. They worked around the clock, sometimes going straight through the night and only catching a couple hours of rest between sessions. Eric says, “I'll never forget being in the booth just finishing laying down the vocals for the bridge of a song called 'Nicole,' and I looked down at the time and it was 7:45AM! I said that's it, I'm going to bed!”

Acting Natural simply means to naturally be what you are. To be Aware, Awake, Able and Alive. The band’s artistry is instinctive. With their appealing on-stage chemistry and addictive melodies, ACTING NATURAL is confident in their ability to leave an impact and connect to audiences. “We are musicians, but we are also huge fans of music. It’s our identity, it’s in our blood. Our focus is music, period,” remarks Maney.

Although the band’s primary genre is rock, their music manages to cross genres and generations, attracting people from all sides of the spectrum and any ethnicity, from kids in their early teens to adults over 60. This an extremely unique quality to an artist that is not often discovered. “Being accepted by people from many different styles and walks of life is a really beautiful thing for us. We’ve played in everything from hip hop clubs, to hardcore metal venues and have been so grateful for such a positive response across the board.

It’s a spiritual feeling really. We get to play to people. Not these people, or those people…All people. Music has so much power. If we can contribute to even the slightest bit of bringing people together, we believe that’s a whole other accomplishment on its own, bigger than anything.”

With growing notoriety on the east coast, the band has their goals set on gaining new awareness on a larger platform, while continually pushing Rock & Roll music forward as artists. “We just want to play music with no constraints and be as innovative as possible, while performing for fans that allow us to consistently create and share our music,” says Carnevale. ACTING NATURAL strives to prove that raw talent, ambition, and honesty can still prevail in today’s music industry.

The new ACTING NATURAL EP will have a worldwide digital release on September 22, 2017, followed by a physical CD release on October 20, 2017, with national radio exposure, large-scale marketing campaigns, and tours to follow. The future looks bright for this talented and committed group. Follow along with their journey on their website and social media pages.

Prog-Fusion Legends BangTower Releases New Digital EP "Hey, Where’d Everybody Go?"

Featuring Neil Citron, Robby “Pag” Pagliari and Frankie Banali

Los Angeles – Declassified Records is proud to announce the release of a special 7 track digital EP from progressive fusion legends BangTower entitled “Hey, Where’d Everybody Go?”. Available on September 12, 2017 at all major Digital music retailers including iTunes, CD-Baby, BandCamp, Google Play and Amazon. Tracks from the EP will also be available on most major streaming services in early September.

The surprise 7 track eponymous album follows closely on the heels of the internationally acclaimed December 2016 album “With N With Out”. In early 2017 Neil began writing and demoing new material for a potential future release. With the subsequent departure of Percy and Walter to focus on other music endeavors, it became apparent that others involved with the last BangTower record would be needed again. Since they’d worked so well together on “With N With Out”, Neil invited Robby “Pag” Pagliari back the project to record these songs and co-write some new ones.

When a window of opportunity opened in Frankie Banali’s schedule it seemed only natural to ask him to appear as a guest again, since the tracks he recorded on the previous record were so outstanding. Not only was he graciously willing to contribute his excellent drumming skills, he also brought along some of the best of his vintage sets to the mix, adding even greater depth and personality to each track.

The album was recorded entirely in top Los Angeles studios, utilizing the best in vintage and boutique instruments and recording equipment. It was mixed and mastered by Neil Citron specifically for digital distribution.

Bay Area Rock Songstress Karney to Release Her New Singles Vol. 2: Restless Wind w/ Same Song This Fall

Upcoming Full-Length Album Renditions To Be Released Early 2017

San Francisco - Karney is a San Francisco-based singer/songwriter that has been making great music for many years, performing across the US and collaborating with many talented and notable artists. Keeping her mind on social justice and positive messages, her lyrical content offers a sardonic and sometimes straight forward approach to many of the issues facing people today, with a message of hope resonating throughout every song she writes. Karney is digitally releasing a handful of new songs between August and the end of 2016 in support of her upcoming full-length album Renditions, due out in early 2017.

While Karney’s eclectic songwriting is based in solid musicianship, her new material echoes a diverse set of musical influences. She will release a series of digital EP’s, featuring a few different renditions of her new songs on each, through her own independent record label, Karney Music & Sound. The second in the series, Singles Vol. 2: Restless Wind w/ Same Song, was released on November 18th, 2016. French Music Ensemble GRIT Release New EP “Live at Kramus Deluxe Studio”

One EP - three tracks, recorded live in a studio, in lieu of an introduction.

13 minutes of raw energy meant to capture the essence of human interaction, in the instant, without a safety net. The Parisian four-piece band GRIT has been gaining traction in the French capital over the recent months, and has elected social networks as their home turf to campaign and deliver an ambitious and brutally energetic debut. Their recent shows have inspired their audiences to exert themselves beyond the usual limits, and to experience the kind of release you feel working the punching bag, or naked, with the right person (not that the two have anything in common - let’s be clear, let’s keep it clean).

GRIT, you say? What exactly are we talking about here? Just like the name suggests it, we’re talking about one’s ability to pursue talent. It is the fine blend of perseverance, personal investment, passion and hard work. GRIT don’t tire out, don’t wear or tear. They keep at it, they create, they dig deeper, and they strive for evolution, with high goals and composed expectations.

They get down to business and do the work. The house that GRIT has built is founded on tenacity as well as technique. They’ll kick doors open if resistance is met, bow with the subdued charm that characterizes them all, and remind you there’s no time, nor the will, to carry around any dead weight. The unit’s guiding principle: “onwards and upwards!”

Countless hours of studio rehearsals and live experiences have allowed them to reach the sought-after sound equilibrium: the meaty bass tones, the determined syncopated drumbeats, the volatile vocal hooks, and the two guitars’ layered sensual growls. And then, there’s the lyrics, meant to achieve the same balance, with themes broad enough to be inviting and besetting all at once. These lyrics, written like Polaroid pictures, freeze particular moments in time; a certain stage in life, A minute of doubt, the memory of a ambiguous sensation. Here, they spill the venom of anger, there, the misery of sentiments, and everywhere, the infectious need for more, right here, right now.

In addition to three very well crafted teasers, each with their own little plot and studio footage, GRIT takes it up a notch with a debut release that offers a double take on the songs. Each track has its own video, each with its own rhythm, edit, and energy, and all of it is… Live. The footage is as powerful and polished as the tracks are, and will leave you wishing you’d been in that studio, bouncing off the walls, and wondering how the band and crew managed to even contain such energy in such a confined space…

They say that playing live can either make or break a band. When it comes to GRIT, it’s a revelation, an area of controlled freedom, where unique and organic sounds meet snappy sarcastic fits of rage. Making rock music that excites the atoms without losing their focus, drive and subtlety, is bound to get GRIT some serious and lasting attention.

Prog Duo Middlesong Release New EP “Directions” Feat. YES Legend Billy Sherwood

Buffalo, NY - Prog duo Middlesong has release a new three-song EP titled “Directions” featuring YES legend Billy Sherwood. With Joe Schneider (vocals, guitar, keyboards) and Phil Tomczak (keyboards, guitars), Middlesong has heavy Prog and Classic Rock influence, along with hints of Folk, Pop and Americana. Middlesong's eclectic sources produce a universal sound that musicians and non-musicians will appreciate!

The three new tracks (“Directions in D Minor (Make Sure That You Learn)”, “See This Through”, “Rain to Sun”) were started at Middlesong Studios in Hamburg NY, followed by mixing and production by Billy Sherwood at his studio in California. Billy, who plays bass, drums, keyboards, guitar on the tracks, is a renowned producer, musician and performer, and is currently the bass player for the progressive rock band YES. Billy has worked as producer and engineer for countless artists in the rock and progressive rock genres. His musicianship and talent is respected world-wide.

“It was great fun working on the music with the guys, I'm very proud to have been a part of it all and very much looking forward to having it now get out there for everyone to hear and enjoy.”- Billy Sherwood

Says Phil and Joe, “We both love to write music. We were surprised and very pleased by the way the songs evolved. Never having worked together previously as songwriters, we soon found that the music seemed to write itself, and took off into directions all their own (which led us to the title for the EP). Nothing was off the table. We allowed all of our influences to enter into the songwriting process. Billy Sherwood was then able to polish and bring the songs to life while preserving our original tunes.”

For all three songs in the EP, Joe and Phil wanted to write songs with a solid musical structure, but take some chances along the way. Most of their songwriting begins with a nylon and steel string guitar, developing a musical theme, and taking shape from there (the “Middlesong Method”).

“In particular, with 'Directions in D Minor (Make Sure That You Learn)', we explored the key of D minor, while providing the listeners with different styles within the same song – a classic Prog offering. Each section of the song represents a stage of one’s life; chasing the musical dream; wrestling with the muse.

“With 'See This Through', our intent was to write a song that everybody could relate to, tapping their foot along the way. A fun part of the song for us was setting the scene for an old Western saloon in the bridge and lead section – providing a change from the main structure of the song, and a bit of an unexpected adventure. The theme of the song itself is one of perseverance, and speaks to both the whole of humanity, as well as to the individual.”

“Rain to Sun” is a great example of the “Middlesong Method”. The song came together quickly, with an instrumental lead melody written by Joe, and an initial arrangement of strings and choir voices written by Phil. In this song (as well as in “Direction in D Minor”), they left plenty of room for producer and performer Billy Sherwood. “In 'Rain to Sun', we were thrilled by his meandering bass line that complimented the dual guitar tracks. Billy precisely interpreted and felt the pulse of all of our songs with his bass and percussion.”

Joe Schneider and Phil Tomczak formed Middlesong in 2015. It didn't take long to realize the synergy and soul of their collaborative songwriting! Joe is a veteran of the performance stage. Augmented by his guitar playing, Joe's vocals soar with clarity, smoothness of texture, and deep feeling. Joe finds inspiration from singer-songwriters such as Lennon-McCartney, Tom Petty and Billy Joel. He has great, natural instincts for melody and harmony, and a gift for writing lyrics that touch our souls in just the right place. Phil's love for music stems from the piano, influenced by the likes of Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson. His versatility extends to the guitar, which plays a significant role in Middlesong's songwriting and distinctive sound. Phil's musicianship evokes imagery and will carry you along on the clear road ahead, or sweep you off into a surprising new direction.

As well as Billy Sherwood, Middlesong has worked with renowned mastering engineer Maor Appelbaum. The duo are currently in the studio writing and arranging the remaining tracks to fill out the complete, debut album to be released sometime in 2017.

In closing Phil and Joe have this to impart, “We appreciate your listening and at the purest level, we hope you enjoy our music!”

Newborn Are Getting Down To Earth With 'Gravity' Taken From Self Titled EP - Out 14th July

Newborn's nostalgic yet surprisingly uplifting anthem 'Gravity' features grungy guitars and heartfelt lyrics. With an almost harrowing opening guitar riff, as soon as the vocals come in you are lulled into a hazy state leaving you feeling the raw emotion behind the song without even thinking.

With the mesmerising EP scheduled for release on June the 14th it's a tantalising wait to hear the rest of the tracks. Quoting the frontman Allen 'Music ... It really does heal people.’ so particularly if you are in need of a little boost, watch their social media religiously in order to hear them first.

The Colossal Heads Prepare For Colossal New EP ‘Mammoths’

Revelling in the heavier side of indie rock, The Colossal Heads are a group on the rise who have been compared to artists such as Queens of the Stone Age, Incubus, Modest Mouse and Nirvana. These are not bands whose names should be taken lightly in terms of comparison – thankfully The Colossal Heads do them justice.

Those bands rose in the 90’s and early 2000’s due to a rock genre that had gone from being anti-establishment to part of the norm. In recent years the cycle has started again, and The Colossal Heads are here to shake things up once more. To offer further proof, check out the album lead track ‘Mammoths’.

Engineered by Louis Cressy, the EP (and single) are a timely reminder of the power that rock music can have.

Another vital part of any musical success is a propensity for hard work, an area in which The Colossal Heads excel almost as much as their song writing. In a prime example, they toured from New Orleans to California from May-June 2015, living out of their Toyota and sleeping on floors along the way. This grass roots approach carries over to their methods of promotion as well. Relying on Facebook, local radio and word of mouth, the band has continued to develop and grow their fan base as their music has become increasingly assured.
‘Mammoths’ is the final result of this evolution, an EP which steps outside of the box and shows how complacent rock music has become in recent times.

Prog Trio SkyTalk Release Debut EP “Days in the Sun”

NYC - Much to the excitement of prog fans worldwide, progressive rock trio SkyTalk has released their highly anticipated debut EP “Days in the Sun”! SkyTalk is a 3 piece collaborative effort formed in January 2015 by twin brothers Jordan and Talor Steinberg and Dan “Ello” Costello. Costello was introduced to the twins by a mutual friend while all three were attending Purchase College. They bonded instantly on a similar taste in music, particularly 70's progressive rock bands like Yes and Rush. Shortly after meeting, the three met up again to jam and quickly found that they had an undeniable musical chemistry, as well as similar inner philosophies on life and music. Eager to form a band, the three began writing original music together and were surprised at the effortlessness of the process, writing five songs in a matter of two months that would later become their “Days in the Sun” EP.

Blending their love of progressive music as well as soul and funk influences, SkyTalk polished their newfound sound and recorded the EP in the following months. With a lyrical emphasis on spiritual concepts, and the shared belief that music is a necessary and powerful force of healing and expression in the world, SkyTalk has released their first EP and is currently working on a new full length record which even further emphasizes these principles. The band is currently booking shows in the New York area as their full length record nears completion.

Says Ello, “The theme of this EP is spirituality and healing. The songs deal with healing past hurts and coming to terms with who you really are now as apposed to who you thought you would be. Meditation and becoming free of your mind was another revolving theme, especially in the song 'Fall Awake'. 'Say' deals with honesty and overcoming barriers that prevent one from opening up completely to others.”

The album was written between the Steinberg brothers basement and the music school where the three all teach private lessons. Each song began as pieces and were refined through jam sessions between the three and further planning in the studio. Lyrics always began as a conversation and were written after the music was ready. The recording process took place over a few months and was recorded between three different studios, engineered, produced and mastered by Jeremy Kinney, a friend of the three from school. NO metronomes were used in the recording process.

Dan “Ello” Costello has been drumming and writing music since he was 15. In and out of a few not so serious bands in high school, he also wrote original music of his own, both electronic and singer songwriter solo projects until joining SkyTalk. Ello is currently studying music at Purchase College and working as a drum instructor at School of Rock. Jordan and Talor Steinberg have been performing in bands since their early teenage years, playing all over the New York city area. Outside of the band the two are currently private music instructors.

SkyTalk is currently booking shows in New York and in the East Coast, as well as beginning to record a full length album. They are also working on two different music videos, one of a cover and one for their original song “Days in the Sun”.

In closing Ello has this to impart. “The message of SkyTalk's music is to believe in positivity, spirituality and to dare to be yourself unapologetically. As musicians our goal is to continue to push ourselves past our limits and write music that continues to challenge us.”

In closing Ello has this to impart. “The message of SkyTalk's music is to believe in positivity, spirituality and to dare to be yourself unapologetically. As musicians our goal is to continue to push ourselves past our limits and write music that continues to challenge us.”

Rumboy – ‘Rumboy EP’ Review

Rumboy – ‘Rumboy EP’

Aged only 21, Jay Thackery has already played in venues across the North West, and recorded several EPs under different names. His latest project, Rumboy, sees his years of experience entertaining crowds come together in his most intriguing release yet.

Rumboy brings together pop melodies and darker lyrics, as he sings of bad break-ups and difficulties in relationships in ‘Stay’ and ‘Girl (Don’t Bother Me None)’, while ‘Whereuleftme’ recalls the heartbreaking ballads of superstar Sam Smith.

The Lancastrian’s lyrics won’t be winning Thackery awards any time soon – he declares “I’d do anything to make you stay / But you say you’re going away” – but he has produced decent guitar-driven pop songs which, for a debut, make him one to look out for.

The ‘Rumboy EP’ will be released on August 31st
