More About Amilia:

It may be her haunting, husky voice that first grabs a listener, the way it glides over melodies like smoke, but it’s the songwriting that Spicer really wants you to hear.  It fuses together the different places she calls home:

Raised in rural Pennyslvania, currently residing in California, spending half the year in Austin, the topography covers languid farm landscapes, red dirt Americana, and an occasional turn down a dark alley with flickering neon...READ MORE...

Featured Stream: Amilia K. Spicer - Fill Me Up

Roots Rock and Americana are really taking hold. It has been for several years and the more I hear it the more I can see why it has become so popular.

Music from artists such Amilia K. Spicer, like her track "Fill Me Up," will give you a good idea of what this music sounds like, or should sound like.

Spicer's voice has that edge country influenced music needs. The vocals gives it all more heart and soul. Truthfully, the reason I like the music so much is because it is so honest and emotional.

"Fill Me Up" comes at you locked and loaded and ready to fire away. The music is very earthy with a heavy influence from country (and I don't mean all polished with rock and pop for a looped radio playlist) just as all Americana or Roots Rock.

Check out this great music and the hypnotizing vocals of Amilia K. Spicer.

Settling in Southern California at a young age, Bruyere began a modeling career that took her on a journey around the world...experiences that can be felt throughout many of her songs.  Pen and paper always in hand, she began writing poetry and playing her guitar, lending itself naturally to combining her two passions into what has become a body of musical work that she continues grow daily...READ MORE...

Legendary Songwriter Hugh Prestwood To Release First Full Album "I Used To Be The Real Me"

The hit songwriter is releasing “I Used To Be The Real Me”, featuring Judy Collins

Los Angeles - It may seem Hugh Prestwood is just introducing his name to the world; after all, “I Used To Be The Real Me” is essentially the first album he’s widely distributed, set to be released November 18 on Wildflower Records/Cleopatra Records. But fans of country, folk and bluegrass music are all very familiar with his work - he’s penned numerous number ones and other hits in his thirty-plus years as an Emmy Award-winning, Hall of Fame songwriter.

Discovered in 1978 by Judy Collins, the ethereal folk singer provided Prestwood with first hit when she recorded “Hard Times for Lovers.” It makes sense that she also had a hand in this stage of his career, releasing his new album on her Wildflower Records. She also joined him on two tracks, “Untie These Lines” and “Charlie.”

“I received Hugh’s CD, listened to it and practically fell over,” Collins said. “It blew me away. All of Hugh's songs are unusual and tinged with magic, and it was a pleasure singing them with my old friend.”

In the three decades since first working with Collins, Prestwood has become a well-respected and sought-after songwriter, penning Grammy-nominated number ones for Randy Travis with “Hard Rock Bottom Of Your Heart” Crystal Gayle’s “The Sound Of Your Goodbye” and Shenandoah’s “Ghost In This House,” among many other hits. But “I Used To Bee The Real Me” is Prestwood singing his own songs, his own way.

“Working with Judy on this record is closing a very big circle,” Prestwood said. “I Used To Be The Real Me is my songs recorded from my demos, whittled down from 30 songs I had in my catalog. I’m so pleased to share it.”

Conway Twitty, Don Williams, Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor, Alison Krauss and Union Station and Jerry Douglas have all recorded Prestwood’s songs, among many, many more. He even received an Emmy for Trisha Yearwood’s “The Song Remembers When.” With that many hits and a long history of working with some of music’s greatest names, it’s hard to believe “I Used To Be The Real Me” is Prestwood’s first full, widely-distributed album of his own work – of his voice singing his songs for a change. The album is a masterwork in lyricism, with Prestwood’s familiar take on life and love as they change through the years.

Although Prestwood is releasing “I Used To Be The Real Me”, he’s nowhere near done with songwriting. Prestwood continues to teach songwriting workshops for the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) in various locations throughout the country, and is constantly working on his next song.

Blind Chart Topping Producer Joey Stuckey Releases All-Female Southern Artist Compilation

Macon, GA - Blind producer Joey Stuckey, the official Music Ambassador for his hometown of Macon, Georgia—a true music city—has released an all-female musical compilation, “Joey Stuckey Presents Ladies of the South”, that encompasses twelve incredible artists that he has produced over the past 6 years.

Stuckey's roster of musical legends with whom he has worked includes Alan Parsons, Chuck Leavell, Jimmy Hall, The B-52s, Mike Mills (REM), Trisha Yearwood, Hughie Thomasson (Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Outlaws), and many others.

The decision to release this compilation was made after Stuckey's co-writing the album's feature song “What You See Ain’t What You Get” with Charlie Hoskyns (The Popes), Will Morrison (Modern English), and Paul McGuinness (The Pogues). Says Stuckey, “We wrote this amazing song about incredibly strong women and loved it so much that we had to record it. We chose long-time friend and Georgia treasure Sue Wilkinson (aka Sue Lu) to perform the lead vocals on this track. We needed the attitude of Janis Joplin and the vocal chops to go with it and Sue was the perfect woman to bring the song to life. After 'What You See Ain't What You Get' was completed, I realized that I knew and had worked with so many amazing female artists across all genres that it was time to share that talent and 'Joey Stuckey Presents Ladies of the South' was born.”

You're Gonna Have a “Crush” on The Darlins

Written by Sherryl Craig
For Women of Music Music of Women

1913979_963205270400639_9042191805605411783_nRockabilly, Roots, Country Gold,,,, Poised, beautiful and exceptionally talented are just a few of the words that describe “The Darlins”, Jude Toy and Erinn Bates.
In just over a year their followers on Twitter have more than doubled from 30,000 to over 65,000 followers. They have amassed over 80,000 fans on ReverbNation where you can download their music and enjoy at any time. They have appeared with some of the industries most prominent icons of music, Montgomery Gentry, Daryl Worley, Trace Atkins, and Joe Nichols. They have also shared their passion for songwriting with some of the industries most talented and gifted songwriter/lyricists that include Tia Sillers.
Significant influences on the Darlins music can be found with Loretta Lynn, Dolly, Eric Church, Tom Petty, Little Big Town, Lee Ann Womack, and Alison Krauss, Leslie Satcher and R. L. Castleman. With talents as amazing as these making a deep impression on something that you love so much, it’s no wonder that The Darlins are able to express their instrumental and vocal talents so exquisitely.
Music has been part of their lives from childhood and there is nothing they would rather do. Both fell in love with the piano at an early age and it was the piano that led them to the deep love they have for music today.
image7Jude Toy was born and raised in Portland Oregon and relocated to LA, where she became the lead guitar player for a rock group called the Creamers. In 1994 she decided it was time to move on and left the group to begin a solo career with her own music. She even walked away from a deal because she wanted to be true to herself and play her music her way. After working in Nashville with Bruce Burch doing some recordings Jude knew Nashville was the place for her and loaded up nine boxes full of her belongings, threw them in the back of a pickup truck, left LA and never looked back. Nashville was in her blood.
~”I was pretty young, I’d say eight or nine? My dad loved Loretta Lynn and he would play her CD’s and we would listen to her all the time. I fell in love with Loretta the minute I heard her sing. The first instrument I learned to play was piano. My mother was a concert pianist and I would listen to her play the classics everyday, Chopin, Bach, Mozart. I think I got my sense of melody from those brilliant men and from a very talented mom. She wanted me to play the piano so I attempted for years, but it wasn’t until I picked up the guitar that it really hit me that it was my instrument and has been for years.” ~ Jude Toy, 2016
image8Erinn was born and raised right here in Music City USA. The love of music grabbed her early and never left her. Her thirst for music began around the age of seven or eight years old. Her Dad had a strong love of the classic country music and would serenade her on trips in the car and even though her mom wasn’t really a huge country music fan she would turn up the volume when listening to The Judd’s. One of their favorites was “Rockin’ With the Rhythm of the Rain”. She loved to listen to her older sister Danielle play the piano. Danielle taught her to play scales and “Chopsticks”. After that she began to play by ear and continued on through out her college days. Now she enjoys that passion for music as part of the duo,“The Darlins”.
Erinn spoke of being grateful for every opportunity and of the excitement for what the future holds for the duo.
I don’t have any regrets. The ups and downs have all had their reasons. There really haven’t been downs, actually for me. If something didn’t happen that I had my heart set on, then I have to believe it just wasn’t the right thing. Me being an inspiration to others is hard to fathom. That humbles me. I’ve always wanted to write songs and create music. If it inspires others, that makes me so incredibly happy. ~Erinn Bate, 2016~
image2The Darlins met while working as makeup artists at the world renowned Saphora Cosmetics in Nashville, TN. Not only did they have a deep love of music but they also loved helping young women find their inner beauty as well as their outer beauty. They knew from the start that a duo was meant to be. Their unwavering determination has propelled them forward quickly and as their music continues to evolve so does their acceptance in the industry.
From Music Row to Tin Pan South, The Darlins are moving up quickly. Endorsed by Breedlove Guitars, Julie Miles Designs, a line of the most beautiful authentic jewelry for the stars, and Capturing Couture, who design custom guitar straps for rising stars in the music industry.
13133339_10154795120332678_1461313129335491664_nJude and Erinn know all too well the struggle and the effort it takes to make it in an industry that has long been a man’s world and how the journey has been really difficult but that through it all they’ve learned so much about themselves and having a career in music.
I hope to be an inspiration to others always, and an example of God’s incredible love for his people. I hope to reach millions of people with my music and help them in some way. I think God blesses us to be a blessing, so I want to do whatever I can to inspire everyone I come into contact with.”
~Jude Toy, 2016~
The future looks bright and for the Darlins it’s a dream come true. They know that with hard work, determination, passion, and a desire to make that passion a reality, that you can accomplish anything.
Their outlook for the future is to continue to build their own style and secure a place in the industry, so that their music will inspire others, to do large events that will hopefully benefit various charities and community organizations and to give back, be happy, and remain humble.
My most favorite co-writer of all time is of course Jude Toy! We have a great time and completely get each other. My advice would be to just continue to push through and get heard. We need our ladies on the airwaves.” ~Erinn Bates, 2016~
image4I’ve known the Darlins now for several years and I know them to love family, truth and country music. They are strong believers in hard work, striving to help others, and giving it your all and your best. They believe that you should stay true to who you are, hone your craft, and never take no for answer. Get to know your fans, reach out and really connect. They also said we should all continue to support our fellow musicians and to support the independent artists, especially us girls.
Currently the Darlins are set to release their music video “Crush”, they will be performing locally in and around Nashville, they will be performing in the fall during several of our festivals and continue doing that distinctive, driving, impressionable writing that we know, is all… “The Darlins.”

Music In Motion with Cat Beach

Written by Sherryl Craig
For Women of Music Music of Women

“As a child we are taught from an early age to listen to our parents. As we grow we get tangled up in life's challenges and we sometimes put our dreams on hold. But...if you feel passionate about your gift, whatever it may be, don't give up. Give it 100% and don't stop. Even though you'll face tough times believe in yourself.” ~Cat Beach, 2016~

Passionate about her music and about living a healthy, full life Cat Beach knows all too well the challenges women face on a daily basis. There are lot's of pressures placed on us to do well, live healthy, work hard.

Cat's ambitions have always pushed her to give her best. Acting was her original career passion but as life took her through different phases her ambitions changed. Currently shes working on her music, her new EP, a healthy routine of diet and exercise, and on motivating and coaching others to help them lead healthy productive lives.

Her first album “Love Me Out Loud” was recorded in 2009 and her most recent “Celebration Under the Sun” is an amazing collection of songs from the heart. It could be described as an expression of strength and warmth, depicting a personal journey of surrender, from life's struggles and challenges. Yet all the while it encourages hope and a passion for life.

Musical influences in Cat's life include legends Joni Mitchell, Carol King, and her all time favorite James Taylor. She said James Taylor was the biggest influence and that she listened to his music all the time. She has also written and worked with some of the industries finest singer/songwriters. Mitzi Knight, Sally Garcia, Dan Hagen, Tom Schafer and Chris Crane. But the most influential and dynamic of those is Ned Albright. Cat will tell you he is the single most important writing partner and co-writer that she's worked with who has, in her own words, “profoundly changed her life”, and has taught her to embrace who she is within and create her own style. She said her career would not be what it is today without him.

Artists who have shared their passion for music on Cat's albums and on stage are Lee Sklar, Dean Parks, Herman Matthews, Ned Albright, Kim Yarbrough, Kevin Ricard and Gia Ciambotti. Currently  Jason Cohen, Andre Madatian, Kris Luis, Justin Lacey, Lo Carter and April Rucker make up Cat Beach and The Surfers.

Cat was heavily influenced by her grandmother with regards to her music. “These Hands” is a song about her grandmother and how the advice she gave helped to pull Cat back together after a rough patch in her life. Cat's velvety voice soothes you and brings you in to the story as if you were there when it happened. It's a story about courage, faith and family.

“My Grandmother said, “our world is all about fighting to survive, remember that.” She spoke of how hard work feed the family and that “if these hands can feed me I can move on in life”...I always remembered that.” ~Cat Beach~

As we talked I asked Cat where the inspiration for her songs comes from. She said the lyrics from the most special part of her heart and soul. That every thing she writes about comes from her own life and that everything you hear in her songs is what she's lived.

“The good, the bad and the truly disorienting. I've lived them all and I'm hoping in sharing my lyrics of life someone out there might be going through the same thing and for a brief moment listening and realize that their not alone in this crazy world. I feel that as musicians and performers we have an obligation to help the people of this world FEEL SOMETHING....”~ Cat Beach~

Health and fitness have always been a big part of Cat's life along with her music and she's found an amazing way to combine both for the greater good. She said that fitness and weight lifting helped her create a strong body, mind and spirit so that she could keep up with the pace of her every day life and life as a professional musician. After years of meeting and talking with other professional musicians and performers about their own survival stories and struggles she felt that there was a special message that needed to be shared with the world. She said that most people are focused on just weight loss and not healing the entire body, so after years of working with mentors and coaches who taught her how to change her mind set from using the word loss and applying the word gain she was able to create a positive outlook that would benefit everyone.

If we viewed our bodies as beautiful gifts that we need to love, embrace and nurture we could have a more positive outlook on our every day life and our careers. It was through this new found outlook on life that “Music In Motion” was created.

“I thought to myself what if we looked from a different angle and took a brief moment to view our bodies as amazing gifts that we desperately needed to take care of, love and nurture. What if we stopped dieting it down and starving it ...what if we stopped over feeding it because our emotions said we need to cover it with instant 'taste' gratification? What if, as a culture, together we became a STRONGER team?” ~Cat Beach~

This is where “Music In Motion” was born. From the desire to spread the message of loving our bodies and not breaking them down and all the while using something that truly inspires others...music. Together with other performers who faced tremendous adversity in their careers and daily lives, Cat is showing us how to overcome affliction and hardship by proving that if nourished our bodies at their strongest may be unstoppable.

The goal is to take “Music In Motion”, which tentatively kicks off  in early 2017, nationwide across America and share the message that this is not just a seminar it's also a celebration of life. Along with the knowledge shared on individual disciplines of fitness and physical transformation by medical professionals and entertainers who each have first hand knowledge of life changing events related to their health, there will be a concert celebration by those entertainers and artists who have shared their own personal stories.

Aside from the “Music In Motion” over the course of the next four months, Cat will also be working on a video for two of her songs, “Soul Shine Pizza and “Does This Groove Make My Butt Look Big. Both are top selling new singles and are fun, happy songs.

Cat Beach is an amazing woman. Her voice is unique with a distinctive texture of warmth, richness, and sultry conviction. The lyrics are heart-warming, inspiring, and at times humbling. She's living her passion, a passion to share her story, her music and her drive for life.

“Stay on the good side of life. Be good to your body, mind, and spirit.” ~Cat Beach~

Cajun Country/Folk Legend Doug Kershaw Serves Up A Gumbo Of Vintage Unreleased Demos & Recordings On A New 2CD Anthology!

Los Angeles, CA - Known worldwide as one of the most important figures in Cajun music, a renowned multi-instrumentalist, master of the fiddle and accordion, distinctive vocalist, and a highly prolific songwriter, Doug Kershaw has spent most of his career mining the rich musical traditions of his home state of Louisiana, from zydeco to Creole-influence country and folk. Now he looks back on his own illustrious career, all the way back to his days performing as a duo with his brother Rusty in the 1950s, though the early years of his budding solo career, and digs up a stunning collection of more than 50 vintage studio recordings and demos. These never-before-released gems will be available to music fans worldwide on February 5 as Anthology - Rare Masters 1958-1969, a superb 2CD set courtesy of Goldenlane Records.

This treasure trove of an album is split between full band demos (comprising Disc 1) and guitar demos (comprising Disc 2), both showcasing not only an amazing vocal and musical dexterity but also a stunning, frequently moving songwriting talent. Often built around a clever, affecting turn of phrase (see “Shake Hands & Come Out Crying,” “I Wish I Had Died As A Baby,” or “It Takes All Day To Get Over Night”), Kershaw’s music may have roots in a specific region but his lyrics speak to the most universal themes of love, family, and good ol’ fashioned human misery. Kershaw’s own enthusiasm for the songs contained herein has not been diminished at all by the passing years. “I am so proud of this compilation,” Kershaw declares, “It’s like exposing my life to the world. I am who I am because you the people allowed me to be!” With an endorsement like that, no self-respecting Kershaw fan will be able to pass this one up!

Audio Fidelity To Release “Colors of the day - The Best of Judy Collins” on Quad 4.0 Hybrid SACD

“This is Collins at her finest.”

Camarillo, CA – Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity will be releasing the ultimate “best of” collection by folk legend Judy Collins on Quad 4.0 Hybrid SACD. Colors of the day - The Best of Judy Collins first arrived in record stores in 1972. The recording features Collins' earliest, most time-honored recordings. The song that propelled the album sales was her number one hit, “Both Sides Now,” an alluring Joni Mitchell tune that dominated the charts for months.

Collins' voice is remarkably beautiful, her phrasing, her ability to enunciate and her vocal range place her in a category by herself. Her amazing talent is on full display in this excellent collection that includes Collins' explorations into folk-pop, country-pop (“Someday Soon,” an Ian Tyson classic), British folk (“Sunny Goodge Street,” The Beatles “In My Life”), and gospel (“Amazing Grace”) that clearly show her eclecticism.

The thoughtfully programmed collection includes the Leonard Cohen classic, “Suzanne.” Cohen's haunting and evocative lyrics are masterfully interpreted by Collins who was an early champion of his amazingly poetic folk songs. Some of the record's finest moments are from her exquisite 1968 album Who Knows Where the Time Goes including that album's title track. Also included are two of her lovely autobiographical compositions, “My Father” and “Albatross.”

“This anthology brings the 'best-of' collection to a new art form.”

Southern Rock/Country Review: Blackberry Smoke-Holding All the Roses

Release Date: February 10, 2015
Label: Rounder Records

As the summer season officially comes to an end, Blackberry Smoke’s Holding All the Roses is the perfect companion to keep you company as the weather changes and the temperature starts to drop. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Blackberry Smoke consists of Charlie Starr (lead vocals, guitar), Paul Jackson (guitar, vocals), Richard Turner (bass, vocals), Brandon Still (keyboards), and Brit Turner (drums). Holding All the Roses is their fourth album and their first release since 2012’s The Whippoorwill.

Holding All the Roses is a twelve track album that is nothing short of pure gold. From the opening rocker to the hauntingly beautiful ballad and to the catchy country tunes, Holding All the Roses offers up nothing but quality goods from start to finish. If you are new to southern rock or it has been awhile since you where into the genre, then this album is the perfect place to get into it.

“Let Me Help You (Find the Door)” starts with a kick and a jolt that electrifies not just the song, but also the rest of the album. The bar is set high here with a standout vocal performance and a short but oh so sweet guitar solo. There is a confident attitude that shines right through the music, making it hard not to fall in love with. It is just a perfect country rock song. “Holding All the Roses” keeps things moving right along with a lively opening that never lets up, making for one great foot-stomping tune with a blistering guitar solo. It has quite the catchy chorus, as well.

“Living in the Song” changes up the sound a bit by going the way of being an easygoing country song with a nice flair of rock. Next up is the laid-back “Rock and Roll Again” that is just a fun song with a great sing-along chorus. Overall, the song has great rhythm and harmonies that flow right along that make for a very pleasant song. The relaxed “Woman in the Moon” is breezy, end of the summer day type of song. It is the perfect song to listen to out on a porch or deck as the sun sets. Probably the most country sounding song on the album, “”Too High” dazzles with its simplicity and honest lyrics. Changing things up and bringing the rock and roll sound back into the equation is “Wish in One Hand,” which is full of more fantastic musical work and a sleek guitar solo. The mellow “Randolph County Farewell” is a short, acoustic guitar interlude.

“Payback’s a Bitch” has all the right moves. There is an edge and steely determination present in the music and vocals that is appropriate for the song’s theme of revenge. It a great song for those just out of a nasty relationship.  “Lay It All on Me” is a low-key and catchy country song. “No Way Back to Eden” is controlled and emotive tune. It is simple and beautiful. “Fire in the Hole” is a great way to cap off the album. It is the type of the song that can be put on repeat and not grow stale. The music is stirring and the vocals are as fantastic as ever here.

Blackberry Smoke’s Holding All the Roses is a masterpiece of the southern rock/country genre. There is just no way around it. Every song is a carefully crafted piece of work that gets better with each listen. When compiling a list of essential albums of 2015, BlackBerry Smoke’s Holding All the Roses is without a doubt one that deserves to be on it.

NEW RELEASE… Johnny Cash, "Orange Blossom Special" Limited Edition LP Distinctive Numbered 'Box Car Series' on 200g Vinyl

“Johnny Cash transcends country music...he represents what American Music is all about!”

Hollywood, CA - Exhibit Records announces the release of a special Numbered Limited Edition album of the Johnny Cash 1964 classic, Orange Blossom Special. The 200 gram vinyl record has been remastered from the original master tapes and is handsomely presented in a sturdy old style gatefold jacket featuring the authentic album cover art, liner notes, historical recording session information and new archived photos of Johnny Cash taken in the Columbia Records Nashville studio during the recording session.

The 'Box Car Series' is so called because the back of each album of this limited edition pressing contains a tiny replica of the actual Orange Blossom Special box car that partly appears on the album cover. Each box car has been strategically foil-stamped with a unique Limited Edition number.

Johnny Cash was known throughout the world as one of the major figures of post-Hank Williams country music, he constantly sought to expand his musical horizons and avoid being pigeonholed. Cash was at his most engagingly eclectic on this early ‘60s recording of Orange Blossom Special. To begin with, "The Man In Black" covered three tunes by Bob Dylan, then the most talked-about young singer-songwriter of the dawning folk-rock era. ("It Ain't Me Babe," "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright," and "Mama, You've Been On My Mind"), Nashville's essentially conservative musical establishment hardly embraced Dylan's mind-blowing lyrics, but Cash, knowing genius when he heard it, was the first major country star to cover Dylan's work. By the same token, he also included two numbers by A.P. Carter of the legendary Carter Family, who, along with Jimmy Rodgers, created the musical template that's still the model for "traditional" country, bluegrass, and some forms of folk. And Cash's unmistakable, tough-hewn baritone rendered the classic fiddle tune that is the title track, and Harland Howard’s,"The Wall," one of the prison songs for which he is known, "Danny Boy" (with a spoken word intro), the spiritual "Amen" and the time-honored story-song "The Long Black Veil." Cash's songwriting contributions include “You Wild Colorado” and the ever-relevant protest tune "All Of God's Children Ain't Free."

Orange Blossom Special finds Cash backed by the Tennessee Two, his outstanding guitar/bass tandem of Luther Perkins and Marshall Grant. And there are guest appearances by such distinguished Nashville names as tenor saxophonist Boots Randolph, pianists Floyd Cramer and Bill Pursell, guitarist Norman Blake, and harmonica ace Charlie McCoy. And June Carter joined Johnny on "It Ain’t Me Babe" for the first of many classic duet recordings they would make together over the years.

The Orange Blossom Special album by Johnny Cash is one more example of the fine music being produced by the budding Hollywood record company, Exhibit Records. The young music label has curated an eclectic catalog of classic recordings in a short time and continues to gain high praise and recognition for their exquisite mastering, high quality pressings and attention to details as displayed in the fine art and craftsmanship of their exceptional package design.

UK Country Rock Band Quill Featuring Bev Bevan of ELO, The Move and Black Sabbath to Release New Album “Brush With The Moon”

Birmingham, UK - QUILL is a well-established, 7-piece country/folk/rock band based in Birmingham, England, from the same stable as ELO, Black Sabbath, The Moody Blues, Led Zeppelin, Christine McVie (Fleetwood Mac) and more, have been wowing audiences for many years. In the past, all of these musicians played in and around Birmingham and kept in touch with each other.

Says lead singer Joy Strachan–Brain, “ 'Brush With The Moon' is Quill's first album to be released Worldwide and we are excited!!Until 2012, Quill was one of the busiest gigging bands in the UK, just getting out there and making music. Our self-penned album 'Privileged' sums up how we felt, doing a job we loved, visiting interesting countries , meeting amazing people and making music.”

The band's new album “Brush With The Moon” is a collection of songs written by the late BEN BRAIN. Ben was bass player and husband to Quill's lead singer Joy Strachan–Brain. He left a legacy of wonderful songs and inspired by Jeff Lynne's use of John Lennon’s demos on “Free as a bird”, Quill was moved to use Ben's vocals and original demos to create this new album. “Brush with the Moon” is a tribute to Ben and has truly been a labor of love.

Featuring respected musicians: Bev Bevan (ELO, Black Sabbath), Brian Tatler (Diamond Head), Tony Kelsey (who has played guitar with Robert Plant, Stevie Winwood, Jim Capaldi) and Matt Davies (well respected bass player and vocalist) along with band members Joy Strachan-Brain, Dave Bailey, Kate McWilliam and Tim Tandler

Bev Bevan commented, “Over the years I have always been an admirer of Quill. I was particularly a fan of Joy, the lead singer, who I considered to be the best female singer around the Midlands area. When I was asked to put a band together for a national tour called 'Stand up and Rock and found that the show needed a female lead vocalist, I immediately asked Joy to be part of it and she agreed. Since then 'Stand up and Rock' has become one of the most successful shows around with sell out tours around Great Britain. About a year ago I joined Quill as percussionist (being a drummer, I have always also liked playing percussion instruments too and have done so in the studio with The Move, ELO, Black Sabbath and Jose Feliciano). It's great to be doing it live on stage now, and playing drums on some songs too. The line up has changed since I joined and the band now has a more folk and country rockier edge to it. The band is also now concentrating on just theatre shows and festivals and I'm very proud to be part of it and delighted to be on this current , newly released album 'Brush With The Moon'. Joy and I are writing songs together and we are looking forward to recording tracks for another album to be released later this year.”

Ben Brain was not only a fantastic wordsmith and performer, but a well respected artist. All of the album artwork consists of Ben's sketches, which accompany his handwritten lyrics. All of Ben's drawings seemed appropriate for the “Brush With The Moon” digipak artwork. The front cover is a water colour painting Ben had produced depicting the songs on the album. Additional artwork contribution to the album was from Ben's daughter, Jenna Swann.

JOY STRACHAN-BRAIN (lead vocals)
KATE McWILLIAM (violin/vocals)
DAVE BAILEY (keyboards/acoustic guitar/vocals)

Country Rock Superstars Little Texas Pay Tribute To A Fallen Soldier With “Slow Ride Home” From The Band’s New Studio Album!

Nashville, TN - Dwayne O’Brien, guitarist/vocalist and founding member of Little Texas, tells the story behind “Slow Ride Home,” a song from the band’s long-awaited new studio album. “We were on a bus heading toward a show in Rooks County, Kansas, just north of Hays. While still a long way out of town, we started to notice a lot of American flags lining the highway, and at every little crossroads and at the corners of the fields there were people on foot, on motorcycles, and standing in the beds of their pickups all waving their own small flags. This went on for miles and miles. It wasn’t the 4th of July, Veteran’s Day or Flag Day, so we wondered what was up. Later, we found out we had been riding just ahead of the funeral procession for a local soldier who had made the ultimate sacrifice. Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Bryan J. Nichols, a native of the area, was killed on August 6, 2011, when the Chinook helicopter that he was flying was shot down while carrying members of the Extortion 17 special operations unit in Afghanistan (the same Seal Team Six that later brought down Bin Laden). Seeing the way that town welcomed their fallen hero home really moved us to write the song.”

Like the recent hit film “American Sniper,” “Slow Ride Home” is a powerful and moving piece of storytelling that speaks not only to the profound sorrow caused by the death of a soldier but also to the cathartic healing made possible by the love and support of ordinary folks from ordinary towns all across America. That theme of small town life, from the highs of falling in love and partying on weekends to the lows of paying last respects to a local hero, runs right through the heart of Young For A Long Time, the extraordinary new album set to be released on April 14 by Cleopatra Records. Duane Propes, the group’s bass player, declares it “the best album we have ever made” and he may be on to something. Undoubtedly the band has never sounded more confident, as the chorus of the titular lead off track proudly declares “Don’t you know by now we’ve got this down / That Friday night fire still hasn’t gone out / We got a rock solid life and a rock n’ roll state of mind / We were born to run / So sit down, son / We’ll show you just how it’s done / ‘Cause we’ve been young for a long time.” The musicianship has only improved with age as well with Porter Howell truly coming into his own as the band’s lead vocalist in addition to his dazzling lead guitar work, and backed by the always solid playing of drummer Del Gray. “Young For A Long Time pretty much runs the gamut of everything we’ve ever done, plus takes us down some new roads as well,” Propes continues, “the vocals are there, the guitar work is there, the party songs are there, the ‘make you cry’ love songs, the songs about Texas. We even dive off into swamp rock and torch music, so each songs has a totally different fuel behind it.”

As part of the Young Country movement of the early ‘90s, Little Texas were responsible for shaking up the country music world with a new, energetic sound that fused the look and attitude of modern rock music with traditional country themes and styles, bringing a much appreciated bolt of life into the genre. For their efforts, country fans the world over richly rewarded the band, buying up over 7 million of their albums, while critics showered them with 3 Grammy nominations plus honors from both the Academy of Country Music (Vocal Group Of The Year) and the Country Music Association (Album Of The Year)! “God Blessed Texas,” the 1993 blockbuster single, has become that state’s unofficial anthem, while the powerful ballad and mainstream chart success “What Might Have Been” proved the crossover appeal of country music, paving the way for future acts such as Rascal Flatts, Zac Brown Band, and others. Young For A Long Time is the culmination of everything the band has achieved up to now with 11 superbly crafted compositions plus brand new recordings of the aforementioned hit singles. Add in a whole slew of shows lined up for 2015, and it’s clear that the mavericks of country music are back and ready to shake things up once again!

Holiday Music Review: Patty Mattson-All The Wonders of This Holiday

Release Date: November 1, 2012
Label: Indie

I thought of Patty Mattson as a Country singer but shame on me, she does so much more! She released the Holiday EP in 2012 titled All The Wonders of This Holiday. And here we are back for another round of good cheer.

What I heard in 5 tracks was four separate genres packaged up just for Christmas. What this music proved to me was the great diversity this vocalist commands.

The opener and title track sounds like a traditional warm up by the fireplace Xmas tune with a big band beat then “I’m Heading Home” gets Patty back to her country roots.

“Santa and Me” is another more traditional track that brings back fond memories of being a child waiting with impatience and anticipation for the morning that everyone loves so much. This track literally gave me chills and brought a wave of sadness over me thinking of love ones lost. That was for me though and don’t misunderstand that thought, I believe this is a beautiful song and Patty’s voice is amazing and magical.

“It’s Christmas” is a rocker with a funky twist. It pops and crackles with energy like the hot burning embers glowing below the hearth. Then “Jing A Jing” is a chunk of rockin’ funk to close out the show.

In just 5 tracks Ms. Patty Mattson captured the true meaning of Christmas by offering a cross section of listeners something to enjoy and take away with a smile. I loved every minute of it and that is from a guy that doesn’t get into Holiday music all that much. You turned me around on this one Patty!
