Drum Legend Terry Bozzio's “Composer Series” The Music & Art of Terry Bozzio Now Available in North America & Europe

Los Angeles - Legendary & award winning melodic drummer Terry Bozzio released worldwide what he calls a “Life's Work” project of Art & Music on the Japanese label Ward Records in September 2015. The set is now available in the US, Canada and Europe! Bozzio embarked on a world tour to promote it starting in Japan and Europe in the fall of 2015 & continuing throughout the US & other territories in 2016.

Terry has worked with Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Korn, UK, Missing Persons, Mick Jagger, Robbie Robertson, Alan Holdsworth, Tony Levin, Steve Vai, Quincy Jones, Ken Scott, Metropole Orkest, SMAP, Loudness' Munetaka Higuchi & “X” Japan's Hide - as well as Film score composers Basil Poledouris, Mark Isham & Patrick O'Hearn - see more at www.terrybozzio.com - Grammy winner, RockWalk Honoree, Modern Drummer magazine's Hall of Fame Award, Rolling Stone's Top 5 Drummers of All Time!

Bozzio said, “I've been composing, (not just song writing, like for Missing Persons & Jeff Beck) since the '70s. I compose in all styles (as one might classify them), from classical to ambient, electronic, film-like to fusion/rock or jazz. I have my own character or personality, it's unique. I work with many different processes from writing notes on paper, to recording live, to several different computer software applications that are suited to the particular result I am trying to achieve. Both Zappa & famed musicologist Nicolas Slonimsky encouraged me to compose & I have had my Chamberworks performed at the Vienna Jazz Festival & in Holland w/Metropol Orkest.”

He continued, “I first got interested in Art & Sketching at the encouragement of renowned artist Don Van Vliet (aka: Captain Beefheart) who I played with on my first Zappa/Mothers of Invention tour in 1975. Don was always carrying markers & paper & it looked like fun, so I bought some myself & started. He was very encouraging. Last year, I released my first project called Rhythm & Sketch in collaboration with the art group Scene Four. It's been successful & inspired me to do more.” (available at www.terrybozzioart.com)

Bozzio fulfilled major two and a half month US solo tours in 2014 and 2016 in which he displayed his artwork as the stage set while performing melodic, tuned melodies on his strikingly large drum set, to sold out crowds.

“I thought it would be great to share this music which I've been working on & keeping to myself for so long. I hope to show a different side of my expression from what people are used to seeing from my solo drumming. And, I wanted to have an abstract painting to represent & be paired with each title to create this hybrid project of music & art,” Bozzio explained.

It is over 70 individual pieces or movements of compositions with a painting in a booklet for each title, along with detailed liner notes for each piece, explaining his concepts, feelings, processes and approach for each. It will be available in a large vinyl-sized box set which includes the book of Artworks, 3 audio CDs & a solo drum performance DVD shot in Japan in 2015. (w/bonus footage, interviews, audio tracks and more). The material will also be made available in a smaller CD size package for record stores, as well as in many or individual downloadable formats online.

We've recorded a ton of GREAT Raz originals and yes... miracles can happen...in this century... A RECORD DEAL! Well, being a couple of devoted Beatles fans, we have a similar sense of 'song'... the RAZ catalogue is massive, current and rockin'! They are ALL fun grooves and great lyrics!!! Here's what the press have been saying about The RAZ Band's “Madison Park”:

“Excellent Authentic Mind-Blowing Rock and Roll! 'What Love Can Do' goes on boiling electric guitars, and heck you'd think it's an introduction by Guns n Roses. 'Say Ya Love Me' is one of my preferred, with ROXY Music background in it's infancy, but having taken a ROXY vitamin. Even the punk is present with the disorienting 'You Don't Know A Thing', The Ramones could not have done better, everything is completed at supersonic speed.  A great rock band in 2016, it still exists moving you like an electro shock.” - Jean-Pierre Schrickle, Highlands Magazine

“For the first time in years an album makes me feel so impressed that I need to listen to the songs several times in sequence, and I do not get tired of doing it. Madison Park is for me the best album of the year 2015.” - Airton Diniz Editor, Roadie Crew Magazine

“ 'Madison Park' is a phenomenal album from start to finish and one in which the Raz Band shines in terms of performance and originality. You have been hijacked to pop heaven.” - Lisa Torem, PennyBlack Music

“The band is good, and the album is packed with power pop and, rock & roll. This gets 5 out of 5 Music Guru Stars. Enjoy!” - Music Guru Radio

“Three decades on the scene haven't diminished this ensemble's ability to build a robust kind of rock 'n' roll, with vigor and simplicity unburdened by extra exquisiteness but not without an arresting flourish. There’s no escaping the music’s mirth. Anything can happen, including a charts dent – it's that good.” - Dmitry M. Epstein, Let It Rock

“ 'Madison Park' is an excellent new work, catch this band. There is more than enough variety in the songs and the whole production was realized by the special contribution of Joey Molland and Joe Vitale.” - Alfons Maes, Keys & Chords

“ 'Madison Park' is a beautifully produced collection of rock from The Raz Band. Good time from start to finish ,the album is a fun packed selection of tunes that keeps you singing along and grooving around the house.” - Terrascope UK

“ 'Madison Park' is an album with songs that make you feel good.” - Eric Schuurmans, Roots Time

“This is the kind of stuff you see in a club live that finds you not minding paying the babysitting some over time. Hot stuff throughout.” - midwestrecord.com

“True songs of rock 'n' roll, with attitude, feeling and melody. The Raz Band are indeed in great form and sign a beautiful drive.” - Pedro Carvalho, Via Noctuma

“The album 'Madison Park' presents sixteen titles of a rock 'n' roll classics, that remain authentic and refreshing.” - musicinbelgium.net

“The Raz Band's brand new album is a wonderful collection of music. This diverse collection of music, has tremendous production and contains an incredible 16 songs.” - Russell Trunk, Exclusive Magazine

“The melodiousness always offered in the songs run at almost every opportunity and let yourself entertained. Play therefore recommended , because this disc from The Raz band has to offer many strengths.” - Markus Kerren, Rock Times (*me•lo•di•ous adj. 1. Of, relating to, or containing a pleasing succession of sounds; tuneful.)

“The rock sound is deeply rooted in the 1960s and '70s. In addition, the pop component is heavily weighted. THE RAZ BAND satisfied in all respects with platitudes and simple rock-pop fare that is still sorely inspired by the Fab Four.” - www.music-scan

“The RAZ Band have been performing for over thirty years and have included some of classic rock's elite as it's members.” - JPS Music Blogspot

Keyboard Legend Rick Wakeman To Release “Starship Trooper” Compilation Feat. Steve Hillage, Nik Turner, Steve Howe, William Shatner and Others!

Los Angeles – On April 15th Purple Pyramid records will be releasing an out of this world collection of extraordinary performances by legendary YES keyboardist Rick Wakeman! For more than four decades Rick Wakeman has established himself as a visionary showman without peer, the creator of some of the most extravagant performances, breathtaking soloing and imaginative passages ever preserved on record, or executed on stage.

Aptly titled “Starship Trooper”, this amazing collection contains 2 previously unreleased tracks including a powerful rendition of Tool's “Sober” plus several more brilliant cover songs of The Who, Pink Floyd, and The Doors including 5 never before heard versions! The compilation also includes performances by Gong’s Steve Hillage, Yes's Billy Sherwood, Steve Howe and Tony Kaye, William Shatner, Colin Moulding, Jerry Goodman, Nik Turner, Carmine Appice and more!

“Over the last few years I have performed on many tracks as a 'guest' but never before has anybody put some of the best of those I played on into a compilation. It's always challenging to be involved in tracks of other people's music and other people's arrangements as it often makes you think and play differently and certainly on many of these tracks I play in quite an unexpected way, but there again, much of my life has been pretty unexpected anyway!” - Rick Wakeman

The liner notes were written by modern rock scholar Dave Thompson, who says of Rick Wakeman, “This most personable of superstars has made inroads into the worlds of journalism, broadcasting and acting - professions which his eye for spectacle, story telling and stylishness might well have made inevitable all along. But he also happens to be among the most gifted, visionary and brilliant performers his chosen instruments have seen.”

Track List:
1. Sober
2. Are We To Believe
3. Random Acts (Revisited)
4. Dynamics Of Delirium
5. Love Reign O'er Me
6. Crime Of The Century
7. The Great Gig In The Sky

Prog Rock Review: John Wetton-The Studio Recordings (Anthology)

Release Date:  17th March 2015
Label:  Primary Purpose

The Studio Recordings Anthology Volume 1 is a look back at the solo career of a man of whom it has been said “has been in more bands than many of us have had hot dinners,” and the man in question is John Wetton. A brief listing of his band involvements certainly gives a flavor of the variety of “jobs” he has had with Mogul Thrash, Family, King Crimson, Roxy Music, Uriah Heep, UK and Asia.

As to JW’s solo output, there are 10 studio albums listed from Caught In The Crossfire (1980) to Raised in Captivity (2011), 9 live albums from Chasing The Dragon (1995) to New York Minute (2015) and 5 compilation/box sets form Kings Road 1972-1980 (1987) to the album for review, The Studio Recordings Anthology Volume 1 (2015).

I would normally give an indication as to the band members involved in the review of an album, but as the contents of the release span 31 years, I feel it would be a thankless task, as well as taking up many pages.

The selection of tracks on Anthology Vol 1 come from his “true” solo albums, 3 tracks taken from Caught In The Crossfire (1980), 5 from Battle Lines (1994), 8 from Arkangel (1998), 7 from Sinister (2001), 6 from Rock of Faith (2003) and 3 from Raised in Captivity (2011). Although I suggested that there were 10 solo albums, 3 were collaborations with Geoffrey Downes (Icon, Icon 2 and Icon 3) and the other was a collaboration with Phil Manzanera. I must admit there is one thing that I sit on the fence with anthology albums, and that is whether the chosen tracks should run chronologically or not, as having the chance to see how the artist has evolved through the years I think is a very good thing.

Anthology Vol 1 is a double CD carrying 32 tracks with a total playing time of around 140 minutes with each CD lasting seconds under 70 minutes. The longest, and shortest, tracks on offer are “Take me To The Waterline” on disc 2, and “The Circle Of St Giles” on disc 1, playing for 6:08 minutes and 2:03 minutes respectively.

I will freely admit that John Wetton is not very high on my personal list of listening favorites, although I have been aware of him since being “blown away” by the Family releases back in the 60’s. This release is an excellent introduction to the writing and the music of John Wetton with a fantastic selection of rock ballads which effortlessly move from quiet, soft vocals and music, through some stunning guitar breaks, the addition of excellent orchestration when required, but which is never obtrusive, and at times, some blistering work from John and his myriad of guests.

Tracks that caught my attention after several plays include, “Cold Is The Night” (5:19), “Second Best” (4:01), “Where Do We Go from Here” (3:21), “Heart Of Darkness” (4:51), “The Last Thing On My Mind” (3:49), “Battle Lines” (5:25), “Raised In Captivity” (6:06) and “Take Me To The Waterline” (6:08), but there are no “fillers” on this album. The double release is a welcome addition to anyone’s CD collection, unless, of course, you already possess the original albums.

I would certainly recommend giving The Studio Recordings Anthology Volume 1 a few listens as I was extremely impressed by the material on offer, and I will dip into the music from time to time. My view on the writing and music of John Wetton has rocketed from the position it was, having recently reviewed a couple of his live releases, which were less than impressive.

This is a superb retrospective from a giant in this genre.
