Alternative Christian Blues Rock Guitarist Lloyd Miller To Release Second EP “Light Is Rising”

Austin, TX - Much to the excitement of music fans worldwide, alternative Christian blues rock guitarist singer/songwriter Lloyd Miller will be releasing his new EP titled “Light Is Rising” on July 9, 2016! This is Lloyd's sophomore release and once again shares a message of inspiration and hope.

Says Lloyd, “The concept/meaning behind the CD is moving forward into a new and better way of life than the way I was living in my past. For me its about asking God to fill me with the holy spirit through His son Jesus Christ and letting the living words of the bible renew my mind into a better way of living in the light and leaving the darkness behind.

“When I wrote the songs for the EP I was going through a spiritual 12 step program with a mentor who I met at Gateway church in Austin, TX. One of many experiences God led me through in my effort to break free from the addictions and bad habits of my past. I have found writing songs about my life experiences to be a very healing and fulfilling experience so I'm always emotionally attached to each song. When we recorded this EP I was the first artist to record at Evil Snail Studios in Manchaca, Tx which is owned by Rom and Kfir Gov. They are brothers who moved to Austin after having success as musicians and a production team in Israel. Rom is a pro level session and touring drummer and he always writes creative drum parts that fit my songs perfectly with not much rehearsal time. Kfir is a singer/multi-instrumentalist/songwriter/producer who has a talent for bringing out the best in the artists he works with. I developed a great friendship with both of the guys through the recording process. I also had my good friend, and long time band member, Jason Clark play bass on the EP. He is always a professional and has the ability write unique bass lines that fit my songs perfectly. Kevin Abbenante mixed and engineered the EP and made it sound amazing. It was mastered by Maor Appelbaum, who has a long list of well known clients, to give it that extra bit of excellence. This EP, in my opinion, is the best work I have done to date but I'm very excited about the quality of the new album I'm currently recording which will be released early 2017.”

From the music capital of the world Austin, TX, Lloyd Miller is building a reputation as an artist with staying power in an ever changing music business. In a massive sea of alternative rock bands, Miller stands out not only with his soulful blues roots and virtuoso guitar playing, but also his positive lyrical message that stems from his lifelong struggle as a recovering addict and his Christian faith.

Lloyd was born and raised in wild wonderful West Virginia and he wrote and recorded a full length blues album at home when he was 18 years old. He used this album as his submission to Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA and was accepted into the GIT program. After finishing his time at Musicians Institute in 2002 Miller honed his skills as a singer, songwriter and guitar player in the California music scene and gained critical acclaim in 2008 winning “Best Guitar Performance” at the Los Angeles Music Awards. He moved to Austin,TX in 2010 and joined the worship team at the Church at Canyon Creek as a lead guitar player. In 2011 he recorded his first solo EP with producer CJ Eiriksson (U2, Matchbox 20, Incubus) and gained praise from both critics and fans. Michael Keith from the Rock N Roll View sums it up by stating, “Lloyd Miller will affirm your faith in good music again.”

2016 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Lloyd as he releases his second solo EP, “Light Is Rising”, which won the award for “Best Hard Rock EP” at the Academia Music awards in December 2015. Also, he is currently in the process of recording his debut full length album which is set for an early 2017 release and will continue touring around the Texas music scene and beyond with his band of world class musicians.

Here's what's been said about Lloyd Miller's first EP:

“Lloyd Miller will affirm your faith in good music again. He's the typical Pop-Rock artist but goes a bit deeper than the next guy with his real deal songwriting skills, solid musicianship, impressive persona and voice – all important trademarks of effective pop-rock artists. These latest string of songs all delivers a highly passionate EP with top flight musicianship, amazing songwriting and music that covers all the bases: Pop, Rock, Singer/Songwriter, Alternative Rock and even Southern fried Blues to Jam Band.” - Michael Keith, Rock N' Roll View (Nov 07, 2012)

“From start to finish 'Not Too Late' EP is an impressive musical teaser from Lloyd Miller. The music is grooving, upbeat and entertaining. The songwriting – all consistent musical experiences, each one possessing a unique personality, flair and signature groove. The writing, playing and singing abilities of Lloyd Miller and his band are rock solid.” - Cyrus Rhodes, Indie Music Digest (Nov 07, 2012)

“A powerful life story told through intentional songs, by a passionate artist...Lloyd Miller has something to say about how his Faith and his music helped him overcome the pains and struggles of life.” - Ramy Antoun CEO- Creative Arts Group

Lloyd Miller's “Light Is Rising” EP Features:

Lloyd Miller - Guitar and Vocals
Jason Clark - Bass
Rom Gov - Drums

Recorded at Evil Snail studios in Manchaca, Tx
Produced by Kfir Gov
Mixed and Engineered by Kevin Abbenante
Master by Maor Appelbaum

In closing Lloyd has this to impart, “The message I would like to convey to my listeners is that everyone has struggles in life and even though we feel like we are alone in our struggle some times, we are not. From my experience, when I started seeking God He led me to meet people that could relate with my struggle which then led to me making progress and helping others who felt like they were alone in their struggles. I am now 2 years sober from alcohol after years of getting completely drunk 7 nights a week. I'm definitely not perfect though which is why I need the sacrifice that Jesus made for me so that the Holy Spirit will continually renew my mind and help me get out of my own way in living to my fullest potential.”

"Songs For The Dead", The Brand New Album From Norwegian Industrial / Alternative-Rock Band Magenta, To Be Released October 16th On Cleopatra Records!

Los Angeles, CA - Norwegian Industrial /Alternative-Rock band, Magenta will unleash their long awaited new album “Songs For The Dead”, a true masterpiece of dark & savage beauty. Leading off the campaign for the album will be an official audio-video for the album’s first single “Ghost”, produced by Al Jorgenson of Ministry and featuring synths by Stephan Groth of Apoptygma Berzerk.

Magenta “Ghost" (Official Audio/Video)

Magenta was formed by Vilde Lockert Odden and Anders Odden in 1995. They have always taken inspiration from the wide range of music they like and describe their work as a soundtrack to a movie you have to create in your head.

Anders Odden is well known in the international metal scene as guitarist for Norwegian black metal legends, Satyricon. His guitar prowness has also served well for Cadaver, Apoptygma Berzerk and Celtic Frost to name a few. But unlike any of these, Magenta is his main musical outlet as a composer/writer.

"Songs For The Dead" was borne through deep tragedy. The Magenta family had been invited to stay at Ministry leader, Al Jourgensen’s 13th Planet Studios compound during the Xmas of 2012. They arrived the same day that Ministry guitarist Mike Scaccia left after finishing some recording. Then shortly after, on December 22nd, news reached them that Mike passed away. Everyone at Al’s compound was overwhelmed with grief. To try to get somewhat back to normal in the midst of this, they all decided to record something. The Magentas daugther, Regine, had written a song called "Ghost" in the castle of Duke Hank Von Hell (ex-Turbonegro) the Xmas before. They recorded this track with Al's magic touch and the idea for the album dedicated to those who have past on, was born.

The album is like a requiem and is a new birth for Magenta. It is the first album Magenta have done that they feel represent them fully as the kind of musical entity they want. As Anders himself has said; "Magenta is my playground where I can be as diverse and melodic as I want to."

Still Got Me by Andorra Indie Music Review

Andorra is an alternative rock band from Philadelphia PA. The band consists of 4 well dressed, not-so-clean shaven dudes that play a 90s style of rock with a free flowing sound that can take shape into any direction.

Still Got Me is a fun, upbeat song straight off their recently released album Etc, Etc, Etc. Nostalgic of a young fun weekend night hanging out with friends and living an 'ideal' life filled with excitement and memories. The song has a bit of an older school (80's?) feel. I like the instruments and vocals from 00-48 and the harmony on "you still got me and the rest of your life."

Take a listen...

UK Alt-Rock Prog Group The Dreaming Tree To Release Fourth Album “Silverfade” on May 4, 2015

London, UK - The Dreaming Tree, a UK based alt-rock group with progressive leanings, announce the May 4th release of their anticipated new album “Silverfade”, via their own Bombsite Productions label. “Silverfade” is the band's first new release since 2010's “Progress Has No Patience”, and takes the progressive leanings of that effort and marries it to a more aggressive edge, whilst retaining the diversity of the band's earlier recordings. “Silverfade” is The Dreaming Tree's fourth album release, and first to be supported with worldwide distribution. It's only when we came to look at the finished body of work that we realised that the album's lyrical themes seemed to be associated with beginnings and ends. Beginnings and ends of the small, personal microscopic things, like relationships, through to the beginnings and ends of race and species, up to the beginning and end of the universe.”

The Pinder Brothers’ New ‘Melancholy Sea’ Makes Waves With Sing-a-long Melodies & Crafty Alt-Rock Arrangements

Sons of Moody Blues founding member Mike Pinder carry on the tradition, as their own SoCal followers continue to burgeon

Los Angeles—The Pinder Brothers may not be the first pair of siblings to proffer an intrinsic fusion of vocal harmonies, but add to the mix crafty sing-a-long melodies and enough of a rock edge to engage the masses. That is the musical mantra of these brothers in arms’ third full-length release “Melancholy Sea.”

Of course, the many current fans of Matthew and Michael Lee are already aware of one other essential factor. Let’s call it pedigree. Their dad Mike Pinder was a founding member of the legendary Moody Blues, who not only fulfilled the enduring band's mellotron duties, but also contributed harmony vocals.

The Pinder Brothers mesh the harmonies of Crosby, Stills and Nash alongside the songwriting style of Simon & Garfunkel, and ultimately add their own modern spin. Listeners will hear all of this and more in “Melancholy Sea,” which the pair wrote, plays and arranged.

The project’s masterfully penned lyrics create a sonic tapestry that dazzles the ear… much like the colors of a seashell inspire the eye. The brothers' voices harmonize beautifully, accompanied by arrangements that deftly ease from a bed of crunchy electric guitars into warm overdriven tones that layer as naturally as sheets and a blanket.

“There are many themes that are explored in the lyrics of our new project,” Michael says. “With today's manic lifestyle, we sometimes miss out on absorbing the beauty that is all around us. Our mission is to maintain that sense of wonder. It could be right in front of us in a scene that we pass day after day. That is the overall theme of our new album.”

Among highlights, “Here We Go” illustrates how such a rapid pace can interfere with the simple enjoyment of the moment. The lyric relates: “Life seems impossible sometimes, It's hard to just go with the flow.” Other tracks delve into bends in life’s journey, exploring other universal themes fortified with endless sonic surprises throughout the eloquently crafted album. And as a wickedly wonderful bonus: founding Moody Blues members Mike Pinder and Ray Thomas make a guest appearance on the album’s finale track “Summer Moon.”

It could be said that The Pinder Brothers have 60's Brit-rock heritage in their DNA, with a healthy dose of California style thrown in. Hailing from Northern California, Matt and Michael Pinder grew up playing music and performing together whenever possible.

How could they not, with the sounds of the lost chord echoing softly in their ears. Thankfully, Mike Pinder’s innate talent has been passed on to his sons—who are now creating their own legacy.

10,000 Maniacs Announce Official Release Date Of Their New Album And Offer A Sneak Peek!

Jamestown, NY - Having conquered the alternative rock world with multi-platinum selling albums and unforgettable singles such as “These Are Days,” 10,000 Maniacs are about to release the most ambitious album of their career, a full-length collection of traditional British Isles folk songs, titled 'Twice Told Tales', newly interpreted by the band whose organic, neo-folk sound has influenced countless others. The official street date for the album is April 28 and will be made available on both CD as well as a special 180-gram 12” vinyl format from Cleopatra Records!

Founding member and keyboardist Dennis Drew explains the germination of the project, “Folk music of all types has been a strong influence on the band. One of the songs on the new record 'Do You Love An Apple' has been in our repertoire for 30 years. We've also recorded Carter family songs and other American, Irish and British Folk music in the past.” With that experience under wing, the group set out to create an entire album's worth of modern versions of traditional British folk classics that would fit right alongside the rest of the 10,000 Maniacs' body of work. “These are timeless melodies,” Drew continues, “Some songs are funny, some are heartbreaking. Most are 100, 200, 300 years old. It's crazy how they can be turned into 21st century pop songs!”

For a taste of what fans have in store, the band is streaming one full song from the new album, a delightful Irish rhyme “Misty Moisty Morning,” on Soundcloud.

Cleopatra Records Signs Alternative Folk Rock Heroes 10,000 Maniacs!

Los Angeles, CA - With nearly 10 million albums sold, 10,000 Maniacs are one of the most successful bands to emerge out of the college alternative rock explosion of the mid-‘80s. For over 30 years, they’ve watched their musical influence pass from generation to generation of neo-folk upstarts who, like the Maniacs themselves, sought out the warm organic soul of rock music amidst a cold, cacophonous digital mainstream. Now the group has just signed with a new label, L.A.-based indie Cleopatra Records, and is about to release the most ambitious album of their career, a full-length collection of their interpretations of traditional British Isles folk songs, titled Twice Told Tales. Scheduled for release in April of 2015, this new project digs deep into the historical roots of not just the Maniacs’ own sound but Western music generally, and finds the band at the very top of their musical, melodic game.

Founded in beautiful Jamestown NY in 1981, 10,000 Maniacs quickly coalesced around keyboardist Dennis Drew, bassist Steve Gustafson, drummer Jerry Augustyniak, guitarist Robert Buck, guitarist/vocalist John Lombardo, and a young soon-to-be superstar vocalist Natalie Merchant. The group released a series of critically-acclaimed albums through the ‘80s but catapulted into the rock stratosphere with the major hit single “These Are The Days” from the multi-platinum selling album Our Time In Eden. When Merchant departed after the equally well-received 1993 release, MTV Unplugged, the group continued on with violist Mary Ramsey on lead vocals and John Lombardo, who had left the group in 1986, returning to the fold. Through the rest of the ‘90s and into the new millennium, the band remained very active performing live shows with a variety of line-ups, most notably with a new guitarist Jeff Erickson replacing founding member Robert Buck, who passed away in 2000. In 2013, the Maniacs finally returned to the studio for their first album of new music in 14 years. Buoyed by the success of that album, the group once again saw founding member John Lombardo return, and together they conceived the Twice Told Tales project, which has already gained a considerable buzz among the 10KM fanbase. Cleopatra Records is proud to be partnering with such an enduring and beloved band, and hopes to see this important project usher in a new era of success for these well-deserving Maniacs.

Progressive/Alternative Rock Review-The Pineapple Thief-Magnolia

Release Date: September 16, 2014
Label: Kscope
Website

The music of The Pineapple Thief’s Magnolia is as refreshing as a cool breeze on a hot and humid day.  There is a good chance that it not quite anything that you have heard so far this year.  The music has an emotional and enduring power in a way that only great music can.  Magnolia is one of the few instances where, when the last song finishes, you will think that this could be one of those rare perfect albums that stay with you for life.

Hailing from Yeovil, Somerset, England, The Pineapple Thief formed in 1999. Consisting of Bruce Soord (guitar, vocals), Dan Osborne (drums), Jon Sykes (bassist), and Steve Kitch (keyboards), Magnolia is there tenth album and it is one for the ages, “representing the best of everything that The Pineapple Thief have achieved to date.”  Front man Bruce Soord said that “All I ever wanted was to write catchy songs that stay with people” and he does that and more on Magnolia.

Catchy, melodic, harmonious, emotional, and lasting are some of the words that I would use to describe the music on Magnolia, and this is no more evident than on the opening track, “Simple as That.”  It is simply beautiful sounding music with the right touches of light and heavy to make for some amazing progressive/alternative rock that will be running through your head all day and night.  “Alone at Sea” is another vibrant song that encompasses The Pineapple Thief’s breathtaking sound.  It is a relaxing song that really hits its stride with the chorus and instrumental parts.  Also, the vocals are just absolutely pleasant and soothing.  “Don’t Tell Me” slows things down a tad and brings the album to a different emotional height.  The music has the type of power that will just sweep you away, much like the song that follows it, “Magnolia.”  The title track is catchy as a pop song and as awe-inspiring as a great painting.

Heavy on the emotional side of things, “Season’s Past” is as serene as a day dream.  The lyrics paint a pretty picture, but there is a hint of melancholy behind it all.  Starting off slow and brooding, “Coming Home” has a cool rock vibe and a great atmosphere.  “The One You Left to Die” kills it with its sick riffs and moving vocals.  It has that hypnotic quality that will have you rushing to hit the repeat button.  It is one powerful and enchanting song.  “Breathe” is a decidedly stellar rock song with short, intense moments between long, calmer sections.

“From Me” weighs heavy on the heart with its depressing lyrics and is like a sad lullaby.  “Sense of Fear” brings things back up to a livelier pace with roaring drums and wailing guitars.  It is another example of The Pineapple Thief’s catchy and memorable rock sound.  The penultimate song, “A Loneliness,” is a light, emotional song that has an uplifting atmosphere.  “Bond” brings the album to a close on an emotional and harmonious note.

If The Pineapple Thief’s Magnolia was a painting, then it would be hanging in the Louvre, because it is a masterpiece.  There has not been an album all year with music that makes an impression like this. It is the type of music that gets better with each listen. There are about two months left in 2014 and Magnolia is my top album of the year.

Concert Review:10,000 Maniacs Entertain At The Colonial In Pittsfield Massachusetts

10,000 Maniacs rolled into to Pittsfield Friday night…well not literally. I am referring to the groundbreaking alternative rock band that broke through college radio and made an imprint for that respective niche over three decades ago.

This is not a band I have followed over the years although have been quite aware of their impact since they arrived in the early 80s. I covered the reissued vinyl LP Our Time In Eden and completely enjoyed it so that was enough impetus to go see them perform at the beautiful Colonial Theater.

Mary Ramsey took over for Natalie Merchant in 1994 and has been with the band ever since. It’s never easy stepping into the shoes of an established star of a successful band and sometimes it just doesn’t work but in this case the transition was seamless and 30 years on Ramsey is still at center stage delivering her vocals and viola playing with authority.

Members include Jerome Augustyniak (drums), Dennis Drew (keyboards, vocals), Jeff Erickson (guitars, vocals), Steven Gustafson (bass guitar, witty banter), Mary Ramsey (viola, vocals) and John Lombardo (occasional guitar and trivia). On this night however Melanie Luciano was on stage playing acoustic guitar and providing harmonies as well. Also towards the end of the second half of the show, three local brass players entered the mix and things really got cooking.

Hailing from Jamestown New York, the band takes influences of Celtic Folk to produce their distinctive sound. They can be subtle and inviting within a song but they also can build a piece into a literal rocking wall of sound. Right from the start I was impressed with their precise musicianship and innate musicality. The chemistry on stage with the band is obvious and they all seem in sync with each other. That obviously has a lot to do with their success and the way each song is presented in a live setting.

One of the first things I noticed right at the beginning of the first song was the big drums of Jerome Augustyniak. He continued to impress throughout the evening and I genuinely respected how hard he worked behind his drum kit. That position in the band is the most arduous as far as I am concerned and you have to have endless stamina and be very athletic. With all due respect to everyone in the band, as they were superb, this man was a perpetual motion machine.

What I found most enjoyable was the eclectic presentation the band made. Their blend of Celtic, folk, rock and alternative left the door wide open for plenty of improvisation. What the audience witnessed was exactly that, a prominent display of across the board talent. I was most appreciative of the fine musicianship. These are true professionals who do not miss a thing making their way through a song.

I think the people in attendance really appreciated what was on offer this beautiful fall evening. There was a couple in front of us that came in and it seemed like they were in absolute awe of the facility. They were from New York City and certainly there are plenty of venues there to appreciate. They thought that The Colonial was gorgeous and very special. I could not agree more and the 10,000 Maniacs were in agreement as well, as all artists are that visit there are.

I look forward to many exciting upcoming dates at the Colonial for the rest of this year and until March next year. Check their website and mark you calendar’s!

In January of 2009 the three remaining members of power pop band Savage Mill put an ad in Craigslist looking for a vocalist. Matt Gomez responded. Later that year they replaced their guitarist with Mike Sullivan, the planets all aligned and the rock gods bear offspring, Sons of the Radio...READ MORE...
