Prog Ensemble Kinetic Element Launch New Studio Album “Chasing the Lesser Light” Through Melodic Revolution Records in Advance of Their Appearance at the Winter’s End Festival UK on April 1, 2023

Melodic Revolution Records is thrilled to announce the upcoming release “Chasing the Lesser Light” by US Symphonic Prog band Kinetic Element.

“Chasing the Lesser Light” is a sixty-minute symphonic prog journey through human’s desire to explore space. From the lunar missions of 50 years ago to the present-day planning for a journey to Mars.

Says Keyboardist Mike Visaggio, “After four years KE has finally completed our fifth CD (4th in the studio) entitled ‘Chasing The Lesser Light.’ We're also heading for Chepstow Wales in the UK for our first European show, and we're pretty excited about it. Our guitarist Peter Matuchniak had the idea to do a CD with a concept honoring all the people who worked together to make the Gemini and Apollo launches a reality. Once again we are releasing our project on Melodic Revolution Records and it was released on March 20, 2023 with artwork by Man In The Mountain’s Martin Kornick.”

Five songs cover the past, present, and future:

1) First Stage (6:15) – contemplating space travel, as we learn to fly high without wings.
2) Chasing the Lesser Light (19:50) – landing on the moon, and seeing the earth as one world.
3) Radio Silence (9:55) – the perils of space travel, with the emotional impact on an astronaut’s son.
4) We Can’t Forget (11:35) – glancing back at the moon, as we look ahead to mars.
5) Door To Forever (15:18) – reopening the door to space travel, and to become the Starman in the sky.

The cover artwork portrays space travel as commonplace with a man in a business suit and helmet, as he observes an Apollo launch that brought a nation and the world together.

Symphonic Rock Legends Renaissance Featuring Annie Haslam To Launch The Legacy Fall Tour 2022

A celebration of Annie Haslam’s 75th year. Classic Renaissance with the Renaissance Chamber Orchestra and music from Annie’s solo career.

This Fall Renaissance will be back on tour with a string of dates culminating at Town Hall, NYC on October 29. The band, which celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2019, is widely recognized for its integration of rock and classical music, the use of a full symphony orchestra, and the 5-octave voice of lead singer Annie Haslam.

Renaissance secured its place on the world stage with a top ten hit “Northern Lights” and performed at some of the world’s most prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall in London and Carnegie Hall in New York each with full orchestra ‘live’ on stage. An album release from one of the Carnegie Hall concerts is considered a staple among fans of symphonic rock to this day.

As its title suggests, the tour this year will highlight the career of Annie Haslam in celebration of her 75th birthday this June. Six of the shows will include the Renaissance Chamber Orchestra, comprised of ten hand picked orchestral musicians, that made its debut with Renaissance in 2017.

The band and orchestra will be playing a unique line up of selections that will include Annie Haslam’s favorite Renaissance classics alongside favorites from her many solo recordings. Much of the music from these shows will be performed for the first time with orchestral arrangements. The group plans to release a double CD in 2023 from recordings captured during the tour.

Symphonic Rock Legends Renaissance feat. Annie Haslam Release “50th Anniversary - Ashes are Burning - an Anthology - Live in Concert with The Renaissance Chamber Orchestra”

Featuring special guest Jim McCarty!

Renaissance are proud to announce the release of their Blu-ray/DVD/2CD set of the 50th Anniversary Concert at The Keswick Theatre in Glenside PA, USA on October 12th 2019, featuring their own 10-piece Renaissance Chamber Orchestra and with special guest Renaissance co-founder Jim McCarty.

It is time to celebrate the culmination of the bands widespread touring and recording over the past 50 years with their first high-definition concert film and Blu-ray release.

Renaissance featuring lead singer Annie Haslam performed an impressive concert of high quality musicianship alongside a magical backdrop of paintings for each song in the show, created by Annie. The combination was stunning.

The concert film is a retrospective celebration of Renaissance classics songs, some of which have never been orchestrated before, including their most notably “Ashes Are Burning”!

Watch the video for “Day of Dreamer”:

Annie Haslam says: I am so proud I was chosen to be lead singer in this incredibly unique band and to have witnessed all the musicians that have been a part of our history, each person adding something extra into the mix and life of the band. Particularly the band that we are now, who have put their hearts and souls into this music. Rave Tesar, our keyboardist and MD has taken the band to a new level by creating our own orchestra of hand-picked musicians... when we go touring now it’s like a 16-piece band, and to have them with us on our 50th Anniversary tour was so natural and perfect. Personally, I have come full circle with our special guest and friend Renaissance co-founder Jim McCarty who was at my audition on December 31st 1970! He added such special moments and memories as we performed ‘Island’, written by Keith Relf and Jim, the song that got me the job!

Renaissance are: Annie Haslam - lead vocals, Rave Tesar - keyboards, Mark Lambert - guitars/vocals, Geoffrey Langley - keyboards/vocals, Leo Traversa - bass guitar/vocals, Frank Pagano - drums/percussion/vocals

Renaissance is a band with a rich history unique unto themselves as progressive rock pioneers who rose from the ashes of the seminal UK rock band, The Yardbirds. Acclaimed for their unique blending of progressive rock with classical and symphonic influences, the band's career has now spanned fifty years spearheaded by the 5 octave voice of Annie Haslam and the masterful songwriting skills of Michael Dunford. They are widely considered to be the band that most successfully and routinely utilized the sound of a full orchestra in their recordings.

The band has toured throughout the world and has performed at Carnegie Hall with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and additionally at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Chorale Society. Renaissance had a top ten hit in the UK with their song “Northern Lights” that still demands airplay to this day.

Retail release will follow through Symphonic Rock Recordings in the United States, Canada and South America on April 23rd other territories will be distributed through Cherry Red Records on April 30.

Prog/Symphonic Rock Review: Giannotti-The Great Unknown

Release Date: 10th September 2014
Label: Northford Pines Music
Website

Giannotti is the US based crossover progressive vehicle for the musician Robert Giannotti, formerly of the band, Jasper Wraith. Robert was a founding member of Jasper Wraith in the early 70’s, a band that were very influenced by Yes/Moody Blues and others of that ilk. He left Jasper Wraith and for the best part of 4 decades, and did little in a musical capacity apart from some studio work, preferring to concentrate on his photography. In 2010 he completed a recording studio and set about writing and recording his debut solo album, The Great Unknown, which was finally finished, and released, in 2014.

I am extremely glad that this particular release landed on my review desk as it is a gem, which I was hitherto totally unaware of. The album is a 7 track release with a total playing time of around 58 minutes. The longest track on offer is the title track, “The Great Unknown” with a running time of just under 12 minutes (11:57), and at 5:29 minutes, track 6, “Corridor of Doors” is the shortest.

The musicians involved in The Great Unknown were Robert (guitar, flute, bass, keyboards and drums), George Clini (drums), Mike Soldan (drums and bass) and an array of vocalists, Nicole, Natalia and Jack Tanner, as well as, Ryan and Collin Graveline.

Opening the album, The Great Unknown, is “Intentions – Letting Go” (8:44) and it is a stunning introduction to the music with its symphonic start and excellent guitar soaring high above everything. As it progresses with an acoustic strummed guitar, melodic electric guitar, flute, keyboards and great vocals, this is a very satisfying listen. Over the 8+ minutes there are various influences float across your mind, including The Moody Blues, Yes, Jethro Tull and ELP. Now, don’t get the wrong idea with this comparison list, as Robert I believe is playing the music he really likes and his early influences seem to infiltrate here and there, but at no time is there the sense of “copying” from the past. “Intentions – Letting Go” is a stunning opener and makes you eager to sample what follows.

“Voyage” (8:20) starts with some atmospheric, almost dark, acoustic guitar which slowly merges into a more upbeat tempo. Emotive vocals from the guest vocalists are melodic and harmonious and fit the music very well. Some electric guitar starts to be heard off in the background, but remains subdued, as the vocals carry the track along. Just after the halfway point, the electric guitar gets to “show off” a little in front of some excellent keyboards. This is a very atmospheric track and has a plaintive flute passage carrying the track off and away.

There is more of the excellent guitar work at the start of track 3, “Dance of the Gnome” (6:13) and immerses the listener just prior to some wonderful flute phrasings, suggesting an almost pastoral feel. This instrumental flows gently along until the flute provides another terrific passage and at the 4 minute mark, the track “hardens” a little with an almost abrasive guitar theme. The gentleness of the track returns as it fades out.

The title track, “The Great Unknown” (11:57) has a sort of ambient based backdrop over which there is a stunning electric guitar theme, interspersed with the flute. This is another beautiful track with those powerful melodious vocals. A slow building track which eventually moves into an extremely atmospheric area when the soaring guitar reappears. A gentle fading outro ends a very pleasing passage of music and upon reflection, draws influences from Pink Floyd.

“Sacred Ground” (8:45), “Corridor of Doors” (5:29) and “A World Away” (8:20) includes an almost choral style to the first of these tracks, symphonic overtones and amazing flute providing pastoral imagery to the second and sees the final track having a more symphonic, choral style, and is a beautiful building song to the finale of the album.

The Great Unknown is a majestic piece of work from Robert, with the fleeting influences from bands of the past coming and going, but never intruding throughout the 60 minutes. As the music flows over you, you can be transported back several decades and enjoy sublime aural satisfaction. Make no mistake that there seems to have been a massive oversight of this album when released, and I am very glad I was given the chance to hear and review it. How it was passed over, I really do not know, but my advice is very simple, and that is, “Get out and buy this album.” Let’s ensure that Giannotti get a huge boost in the sales of this superb, but overlooked, debut.
