San Francisco Jazz Singer NOA LEVY to Release Her Debut EP TAKE TWO & Perform a RISING STAR SHOWCASE at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley

San Francisco, CA – With a beautiful, rounded voice and a magnetic stage presence, NOA LEVY is a unique and charismatic female vocalist and performer who sings across genres – Jazz, Rock, Cabaret, Musicals, and Pop. She has set a worldwide digital release date of August 17, 2018, for her recently recorded debut TAKE TWO EP, a thoughtful collection of Jazz arrangements featuring NOA LEVY in a duo format with three different instrumentalists. That same day, Noa will headline her own RISING STAR SHOWCASE at the California Jazz Conservatory, featuring songs from the TAKE TWO EP as well as other material.

Drawing on influences from her favorite musicians and artists including Peter Gabriel, Brad Mehldau, and Carmen McRae, NOA LEVY has developed her own signature arrangements of classic and unique tunes to paint a picture that anyone listening can relate to. Her favorite thing about jazz is the possibility to collaborate with fellow musicians about universal themes and day to day life, and her arrangements on the TAKE TWO EP are the fruit of some of these collaborations. She is also developing her own original songwriting, and will perform a handful of shows to support the release of the TAKE TWO EP throughout the summer and fall of 2018.

NOA LEVY is currently studying and honing her craft at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley, CA, while also working on her repertoire and performing with local musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area. Originally born in Jerusalem, she grew up for most of her life in Israel. She has performed with Israel’s National Chamber Orchestra, was invited to tour and record an album with Israel’s leading composer and pianist, Yoni Rechter, and was co-lead singer for the popular ABBA tribute band, Waterloo. She also arranged and directed her own cabaret show, Cheetah. Since moving to San Francisco in 2016, NOA LEVY has immersed herself in the world of jazz. In 2017, Jazz in the Neighborhood twice recognized her as an Emerging Artist, providing her the opportunity to perform and study with the eminent Bay Area jazz singer Clairdee and the prolific Brazilian jazz singer and composer Sandy Cressman. She was also invited to collaborate on the Jazz Voices of Poetry project which debuted new material early in 2018.

Her passion for performance was apparent at just four years old when her grandparents found her dancing on stage at a large music festival. While listening to Queen’s Greatest Hits on a cassette tape given by her father, she discovered her singing voice at age 12 – she was blown away by the amazing musicality and vocal talents of Freddie Mercury and she’s been singing ever since. In middle school, she joined a renowned local theater group and starred in lead roles as the group toured Israel.

At 18, for her mandatory military service, NOA LEVY auditioned for and was inducted into the IDF’s prestigious Navy Ensemble where she performed throughout Israel and also toured across the United States. Following her IDF service, she pursued her passion and developed her talent for musical theater at the London School of Musical Theatre in London, England, earning a diploma. Afterwards, she concentrated on music studies at Rimon School of Music in Israel.

The first release party for her TAKE TWO EP will be held on August 17, 2018, at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley (formerly known as the Jazzschool). A privately-owned non-profit music school founded in 1997, the school won accreditation as a conservatory in early 2014, and is the only American school with a year-round jazz music program.

Multicultural European Singer-Songwriter EMILY JOHNSON Releases Her Debut EP OPEN YOUR HEART Produced By NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN

“She has an extraordinary voice, superb.” - John Mclaughlin

San Rafael, CA - Sometimes known as “The Lady of Heart,” EMILY JOHNSON is a Bulgarian-born Nigerian singer, songwriter, and composer. Having performed around the world for many years, she is releasing OPEN YOUR HEART, her debut EP, on May 11, 2018, with the help of Tarpan Records in the United States. This EP was produced by NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN and features 4 original songs.

EMILY JOHNSON was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, at a time when the country was still under the influence of the Soviet Union. Her mother is Bulgarian and her father Nigerian, a mix which made her quite different from the other children in her own neighborhood and even her own country. Different by color, but also different in her heightened sensitivity which is expressed so wonderfully in her music.

“Open your heart,” EMILY JOHNSON sings on her soon to be released debut EP of the same name. To her this statement is more than words; it is a way of life. On this release of original songs, she creates her art with something beyond passion, giving herself to her audience with a great generosity, energy, and sincerity. Emily brings others together to ignore prejudices, erase borders, and overcome difficulties. She shares with them a simple pleasure which is to SING!

Emily has been fortunate to work with some music industry greats, including the incredible guitarist John McLaughlin who invited her on stage for an emotional performance of “Redemption Song.” Another is the world famous, Grammy Award-winning American producer NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN (Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin), who graciously opened the doors of his Tarpan Studios to produce OPEN YOUR HEART.

Ever since John McLaughlin discovered EMILY JOHNSON on stage on the Côte d'Azur, the Mahavishnu Orchestra founder has consistently praised her as an artist he already considers “a star.” Emily would certainly reply that she also owes much of her success to his friendship and support. John McLaughlin says, “If one day EMILY JOHNSON is on the top of the charts, it will be because of her talent. She has an extraordinary voice, superb. She has it all! An inner and outer beauty. She can sing everything.”

Emily appreciates this immense compliment coming from an artist with such a career. “He is more than a musician; John McLaughlin is a Legend and a great friend and I am so blessed to know him!” she says. They have performed together several times both live and in the studio. Their relationship is more than beautiful; it is strong, sincere and much more than words.

Even better, John invited EMILY JOHNSON to cross the Atlantic to join NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN, the former Mahavishnu Orchestra drummer who became one of Billboard Magazine’s Top Ten Producers of all time. “John has opened up new horizons for me,” says Emily. “He is not only a friend but also my Light.” “The Light,” as she sings on the track from OPEN YOUR HEART that she wrote and dedicated to him.

OPEN YOUR HEART features some amazing performances, with NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN playing many instruments and featuring performances by Chris “Heist” Walden (Keyboards/Electronic Drums, “Open Your Heart”), Jim Reitzel (Guitar, “Open Your Heart”), and Cornell “CC” Carter and Deedee Simon (Back-up Vocals, “The Light” and “Open Your Heart”). The song “I’m Blessed” features Rapper G-Dub. OPEN YOUR HEART was recorded at Tarpan Studios by Jim Reitzel and mixed by Dave Frasier.

Today this beautiful story continues with new collaborations on both sides of the Atlantic and with the release of her first project, simply titled OPEN YOUR HEART. An obvious choice, isn't it?

Singer/Songwriter David Fitzpatrick to Release Studio Album "Parachutes in Hurricanes"

New album due APRIL 27th

Guitarist/Songwriter David Fitzpatrick who has led Milwaukee’s Dave Fitzpatrick Band for decades will release his first major solo work entitled “Parachutes in Hurricanes” on Daystorm Music. Known for his production résumé, musician/engineer/producer Gary Tanin (Jack Spann, Sam Llanas, Roger Powell, Daryl Stuermer) was recruited to collaborate on Fitzpatrick’s solo opus due to arrive April 27th.

Nearly three years in the making, many musicians provided their artistry along with core members of David’s band. Fitzpatrick and Tanin spent countless session hours crafting the melodies and arrangements that resulted in the compositions on the album. “It was an extensive undertaking that could only have been steered by this songwriter’s single-minded passion for perfection,” explains producer Gary Tanin, “It took David's uncompromising excellence, courage, persistence, and dedication to the art form. I'm extremely proud of our achievement.”

Under the eagle eye of veteran engineer Ric Probst, Planet Green Productions recorded the entourage at Tanner-Monagle, Inc. Guest musicians included Jack Spann, Jazz Guitar legend Dick Eliot, Dave Schoepke, Michael Koch, Ethan Bender, Saxophonist Luke Lilla, and Dave Fitzpatrick Band members Paul Noeske, Gerry Ochoa, Craig Brog and Tom Buckley.

“Fitzpatrick's vocalizing comes on like Metallica's James Hetfield raised on an aural diet of John Mellencamp and The Smithereens tops off a sound at once reassuringly familiar and yet currently unique.” Jamie Lee Rake - Shepherd Express

A “spiritual restlessness” in a body of work that represents a life’s worth of insight, "Parachutes in Hurricanes" balances joy and darkness expressing down-to-earth emotion packed with heartfelt examinations of love and life that every person can relate to.

The album releases April 27th in digital formats and June 8th in physical formats through Daystorm Music. Available digitally on 04/27 via  iTunes, Amazon or CD Baby.

Rock Singer/Songwriter MICHAEL TRACY Releases Fourth Studio Album STILL GOT SOUL Following Years of Notable Performances

Charlotte, NC - MICHAEL TRACY combines straightforward American Rock and Roll with poignant lyrical themes, reminiscent of Rock Singer/Songwriter idols like Tom Petty, Bob Seger, John Mellencamp, and Bruce Springsteen. He has released four studio albums, and together with his band has shared the stage with Bon Jovi (garnering him a featured article in Billboard Magazine), Poison, George Thorogood, Styx, Foreigner, Don Felder, Jefferson Starship, Dokken, and Zach Myers (Shinedown). MICHAEL TRACY will release his new album STILL GOT SOUL in stores and online November 17, 2017. This latest effort is his most ambitious yet, representing an artist who has clearly found his voice and a "lane" to call his own.

His previous label experiences not being a perfect fit, MICHAEL TRACY was inspired to start his own independent label, TW Music Group, to support his new release, and set out to find the right producer that could capture the sound and style he had spent years cultivating, but had yet to realize on a record. In late 2015 Michael would find what he was looking for with Los Angeles producers Bob Marlette (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Alice Cooper) and Sahaj Ticotin (Ra). He traveled to LA and recorded three songs with them that would appear on his early-2016 release Love And Worries, a short collection of previously unreleased material. From those original sessions, a bond emerged between Michael and producer Sahaj Ticotin, and a shared belief that together they could create great records. They got together again in late 2016, co-writing an original Holiday tune that Michael had been working on called “Poinsettia Red.”

Immediately in 2017 they began plotting STILL GOT SOUL, Michael’s next full-length album. All songs on this stellar new release were written by MICHAEL TRACY and Sahaj Ticotin, and produced, recorded, and engineered by Sahaj in April and May 2017. Featuring mastering by Paul Logus of PLX Mastering and album artwork from Jason Taylor, Scott Hart, and Shannin Washburn, STILL GOT SOUL is an instant classic for every fan’s collection.

Though his time in the studio throughout 2017 kept his performances limited, Michael still booked some of his most notable shows to date. In February MICHAEL TRACY and his band opened for Bon Jovi in Greenville, SC, garnering him a featured article in Billboard Magazine. In the early spring, he played two arena shows opening for Poison, and in September was on the PNC Pavilion stage in Charlotte opening for the Jeff Foxworthy/Larry The Cable Guy Back Yard BBQ featuring Marshall Tucker Band & Foghat.

The new MICHAEL TRACY album STILL GOT SOUL will release in stores and online November 17, 2017 and he will continue to perform in support of the release throughout 2017 and 2018. For more information about MICHAEL TRACY, please visit his website and social media pages via www.michael-tracy.com.

MICHAEL TRACY began his journey as a singer/songwriter in early 2011, stepping on stage at a local open mic to nervously perform some songs he had just written. He had spent his early 20’s in the Navy, stationed on both coasts and traveling to countries throughout the Mediterranean. He married his wife while in the Navy and they have two children together. It was later that Michael joined together his love of words and music as a songwriter, having learned guitar as a child fascinated with books and writing. The open mic performance awakened something in him and he continued honing his chops, jumping on stages all over Charlotte and jamming with local musicians. He entered the studio in November 2011 to record his first album, Enough Small Talk.

Over the next two years, MICHAEL TRACY put a band together and impressed audiences with his high-energy and soulful performances. By 2013 he won his first of many regional awards with the reader’s choice award for Best Songwriter from Creative Loafing Best of Charlotte. He also won the Charlotte Music Awards 2013 and performed his first major opening gig as the supporting act for George Thorogood at The Fillmore. He booked more high profile gigs in 2014, including opening slots for Styx, Foreigner, Don Felder, Jefferson Starship, Dokken, and Zach Myers (Shinedown), and ended the year ended with his own headline show at The Fillmore promoted by Live Nation. While spending 2014 performing across the region, Michael also returned to the studio and produced his next album Gonna Smile, which was signed by the indie label Spectra Records and released in February 2015.

1960's Irish Pop Singer Jackie Lee aka “Jacky” Releases New Compilation Feat. Hit Single “White Horses”

1960's Irish pop singer Jackie Lee aka “Jacky”, best known for her hit song “White Horses”, has released new compilation of the same name on Gonzo MultiMedia UK.

“I never dreamt in my wildest dreams that when I was asked by Ben Nisbett and Michael Carr if I would like to sing a little song they had written for hopefully a new TV series about White Horses that it would become so popular. I of course said I would be delighted to do so. I then went to Ben's office in Tin Pan Ally (Denmark Street, London) as it was known and heard the song and saw the lyrics for the first time. I must say I fell in love with it. We then set the key for the arranger and a week or so later I was in the rather small studio to put my voice to the arrangement that had already been recorded. It was then I decided to make something of this sweet little song. As there were about two tracks left, I used them to double track my voice and put in the harmonies which I knew would work well for the song. Lucky for all of us it was accepted for the TV series and voila, a little gem was born.

“I am quite astounded that my recording of the White Horses theme song is still remembered so fondly and played on the radio so regularly. So many people have written to me personally to recall all the happy memories they remember as children about the series and my recording. After so many enquiries I am delighted that this album has been released with the White Horses recording and tracks from my White Horses LP along with some other favourites of mine.

“It includes one track that has never been released before which was part of an album that I created with Christopher Gunning called Calendar which was very dear to my heart. The Busker was about April showers, the album was never released and to date and The Busker is the only track known to have survived.

“I have also chosen several recordings I made as part of the Raindrops,  a vocal quartet with my ex Husband Len Beadle, Vince Hill and Johnny Worth.  They all went on to make their own individual contributions to popular music.” - Jackie Lee

Tracks:
White Horses (Stereo)
I can Sing a Rainbow
Things I don't mean
Well, that's loving you
We're Off and Running
I think I like you
Scarlet Ribbons
Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?
Out of sight, out of mind
Too Many Chiefs and not enough Indians
I Cry Alone
The Busker
Will You Love Me Tomorrow
There goes the lucky one
Here I go again
Down our Street
The Locomotion
The End of the World

Jackie Lee is an Irish popular music singer, who has recorded under various names. Lee was a musical child prodigy who became a vocalist with the top show bands playing prestigious Irish venues. She had similar success when she moved to London and joined the popular dance band; The Squadronaires. In 1955 her first solo record was released, followed by two more the next year. From 1959 to 1964, Lee was a member of The Raindrops, a successful quartet who made countless appearances on British TV and variety shows, had a BBC Radio show and released a string of records, the majority of which had Lee as lead vocalist.

Lee went solo in 1965 and recorded albums until 1967. Lee was also a respected session singer, through her groups The Jackie Lee Singers and Tears of Joy. She provided the backing vocals for such worldwide hits as “Green Green Grass of Home” by Tom Jones and “Release Me” by Englebert Humperdink. She was also featured on such diverse recordings as “Hey Joe” by Jimi Hendrix; and much of the James Last catalogue at the time. At one point Elton John was hired by Lee as a member of her session singers. In addition she also sang various songs for film soundtracks.

In 1968, going under the name “Jacky”, she had a UK Top Ten hit single with “White Horses”, the theme from a children's TV program. Her album of the same name was also released in 1968, which also featured Dudley Moore on piano. By 1970, “Jacky” reverted to “Jackie Lee” and had another hit record “Rupert”, from the TV show based on the famous cartoon character, Rupert Bear. “Jackie's Junior Choice”, was released on Pye Records in 1971, followed by “Rupert and Other Junior Favourites” in 1973. It was shortly after this she retired, yet remained a respected vocalist!

The Livesays feat. Clarence Clemons Guitarist/Singer Billy Livesay To Release New Album “Hold On… Life Is Calling”

Miami, FL – Singer/songwriter/guitarist Billy Livesay and his band The Livesays will be releasing their new album “Hold On... Life Is Calling” on October 3, 2016! Memorable pop-rock tunes, soulful vocals, wailing slide guitar and riveting live performances are The Livesays signature. Best known for his work with Bruce Springsteen sax legend Clarence Clemons, Billy Livesay's new album is an exciting collection of Neo-Classic Rock gems born, raised and developed in the heat of south Florida.

Says Billy, “I had no preconceived idea for this new album. These things usually take on a life of their own. I accumulate some songs and decide it's time for the band to do another disc. Over time, as I accumulated the songs, I realized there was a certain vibe it was taking on. Why, who knows? This CD is all about the trials of growing up and becoming responsible. The adventures we face and how we deal with different opinions and the adversity we face in our lives. So I guess it is sort of a concept CD.”

Born in Washington DC, Billy Livesay was raised in south Florida and graduated from Hialeah High School. After seeing “The Beatles” and “The Rolling Stones”, Billy knew exactly what he wanted to do. After high school at the age of 17 he cut his guitar and singing chops by first touring the country with a soul band and then various rock bands. In the spring of 1998, Billy Livesay, got the news that E-streeter Clarence Clemons was looking for a band. Billy got the job playing lead guitar and sharing the lead vocal duties for the next 12 yrs. “The Big Man” Clarence Clemons and his band called “The Temple Of Soul” earned a reputation for their ardent live performances and their special guests, including E-Streeter and HBO Sopranos star Little Steven and “The Boss” himself. The group released “Live In ASBURY PARK” featuring Billy's song “Under The Heat Of A Full Moon”, on Nov. 5, 2002 on the Valley Entertainment label. Then in January 2004 “Live In ASBURY PARK Volume 2” was released, featuring Bruce Springsteen singing lead vocal on a cut called “Raise Your Hands”.

Currently a respected member of the music community, Billy devotes his time singing and playing guitar with founding member of Savoy Brown and Foghat bassist Tony Stevens, as well as his own band The Livesays. Billy has forged a national career which includes: the licensing of 21 songs to an MTV series, and publishing deals with Kid Gloves Music, Transition Music and Crucial Music. Billy has placed songs in motion pictures, NBC movies of the week and dozens of weekly television shows. Credits include placement of songs on television shows such as: “Saving Grace”, “Witch Blade” “Robin's Hoods”, “Doogie Howser”, “King Of The Hill”, “The Matthew Sheppard Story”, “Samantha Who”, “My Name Is Earl”, “One Tree Hill”, Spelling NBC movies of the week, the showtime movie “Back To Even”, HBO's “Weeds” and the major motion pictures “Straw Dogs” and “Promised Land”.

The Livesays

Billy Livesay - guitar/vocals
Jorge Laplume - bass/vocals
Eddie Zyne - drums
Victor “Cuqui” Berrios - hammond organ/vocals

From pounding raw energy to tasteful finesse, Eddie Zyne's drumming skills have taken him on tours with Hall and Oates, Todd Rundgren, Desmond Child and Rouge, The Monkees, Rick Derringer, Foghat, and now The Livesays. Eddie's talents have led him to endorsements for Sabian Cymbals and Pearl Drums. When asked about his influences, he doesn't hesitate to say “Ringo and the Beatles.”

Victor “Cuqui” Berrios grew up in New York City. His love of music began in the 60's as he listened to everything from Do-Wop and Motown to the sounds of the British invasion. The first instrument Cuqui learned to play was the saxophone at the tender age of eleven. In his teens, he picked up the guitar and began to play the piano after moving to south Florida where he attended Hialeah High School and first met Billy Livesay. Cuqui brings a touch of the city to The Livesays with his Hammond B3 and soulful vocal sound.

Jorge Laplume was born in Havana, Cuba and raised in south Florida. From the early age of 9 Jorge immersed himself in American top 40 and then by age 12 and learning to play the guitar he was totally hypnotized by the sounds of the British invasion. With his Latin upbringing and a steady diet of the rock groups The Who and Free, Jorge, brings to The Livesays a bass sound that is fresh and thunderous.

The combination of the versatility of backgrounds and personalities of these veteran players is what makes their sound so unique. What The Livesays have created is an album that is both memorable and moving with stories ranging from adolescence to adulthood that will touch each listener's heart.

Tim Murphy played piano and sang background vocals for The Livesays CD's “Rose Colored Glasses” and “Faith, Hope and Love. After leaving the group in May of 2015, Billy recruited guest piano players for some of the recordings of “Hold On…Life Is Calling”. Luke Sipka, from the EDM group Bells & Robes and former Clarence Clemons member John Quinn.

Origins

Drummer Eddie Zyne joined Billy Livesay and fellow south Floridian Jorge Laplume after a tour with Rick Derringer and a reunion Monkees tour. With the addition of Victor “Cuqui” Berrios on organ/vocals, The Livesays quickly became respected members of the south Florida music community forging a national career.

The Livesays have an active presence on the web and have opened shows for The Little River Band, Fire Fall, The Jefferson Airplane, Ambrosia, Kansas, Joan Jett, Wynona Judd, Michael Bolton, Edwin McCain, Cheap Trick, The Romantics, Foreigner, Bo Diddley, The Vanilla Fudge, Pat Travers, Rick Derringer, The Smithereens, Todd Rundgren, Edgar Winter, as well as Al Green and Paula Cole, in the acoustic/unplugged format to favorable reviews.

Billy and Eddie are also the guitarist/lead singer and drummer for Tony Stevens Slow Ride Original FOGHAT. Billy has 5 originals songs on their 2007 release “Join Together” on Renaissance Records. Billy has also played along side of musicians: Brian Howe, Carmine Appice, Kansas, Mickey Thomas, America, Mike Reno, Jimi Jamison, Davey Jones, Gregg Rolie and Bruce Springsteen.

Here's what the press have raved about The Livesays:

“Bruce Springsteen and Southside Johnny are both easy reference points as the band whip up a blues-groove, rock 'n' soul vibe that's topped by Livesay's sandpaper croon.” - Leicester Bangs, UK

“Not only do you get some eloquent melodies on this disc, but you also get some thought-provoking material that will no doubt make an impact on you as a listener.” - Chuck Dauphin, Music News Nashville

“Classic-rock sensibility that draws on radio-ready hooks, well-brewed arrangements, and songs that quickly sink into the consciousness even on first hearing. What's more, the band's remake of the Byrds' 'My Back Pages' is a close contender for what may well be the best cover of this classic ever recorded.” - Lee Zimmerman, New Times Magazine

Written by Sherryl Craig
For Women of Music Music of Women

Lori Dixon has been in love with music most all her life. It was something she did because she loved it.
Lori, Hannah, and Joshua
Lori, Hannah, and Joshua

There are many special things in her life… and music plays, or has played, a huge part in it. First she is a proud mom to two amazing children. Her 18 yr old daughter Hannah and her 14 yr old son Joshua, who by the way is a bright and thriving videograher. She studied Environmental Science and Animal Behavior, studied Education at Trevecca Nazarene University, and has been a teacher, a zookeeper and curator.
Lori is also a singer/songwriter and a devoted mentor in a program close to her heart called “The Beat of Life.” It is through this program that she’s using that love of music to make another passion a reality.. Helping those in need by sharing with them the healing gift of music.
IMG_7633Lori’s medicine is a non-profit called “The Beat of Life” and it is such an amazing project, with a large number of talented people from through out the various communities giving of themselves to help others in need. The project consists of teams of accomplished musicians and singer/songwriters that work with individual groups, like adults challenged with illnesses of various kinds, those challenged in the legal system, children struggling with abuse and/or bullying, and then take these real life situations turning them into compelling and thought-provoking songs.
Local artists and other supporters we want to mention who give of their time are Steve Bryant, Billy Dawson, Adam Wood who wrote the theme song for “The Beat of Life” called The Music Came Back, Jeni Dominelli the Founder and CEO of The Beat of Life, and dear friend and artist who performs with Lori in various locations PJ Ju, newly transplanted to Nashville from New York.

Music is such a huge part of her life and has always been so. She performs locally in Nashville and shares her exceptional talents with country music fans as often as she cans. Her passion for music is what helped give her son Joshua, the ability to gain language skills he needed due to autism. During a special project Lori met a gentleman by the name of Dan Harrel, or maybe you know him better as “Cowboy Dan.. It was Cowboy Dan’s CD’s that intrigued Joshua and through listening to them he was able to learn melodiously how to pronounce his words, even by singing them.
~ “With music we can change the world, help children challenged with disabilities and struggles.” Lori Dixon, 2016 ~
IMG_6906“The Beat of Lifetouches many areas in it’s musical out reach. Lori and the dedicated group of volunteers visit local corrections facilities for men and women and bring the prisoners into the craft of writing songs, “Redemption Songs”, from their own life experiences. Support like one of their own most valuable players, Steve Bryant Chief Operating Officer for The Beat of Life. The songs are used as music therapy to help those incarcerated in using their life experiences to heal and recover. They would then apply the results of music therapy to being able to once again join the community in a positive way. The program has worked so well that there have talks about expanding it further and in to other facilities.
The anti-bullying program for children is called “Sing It to Stop It” and the songs are pulled from the stories that the children tell of how bullying has affected them. Country music artist and author Billy Dawson shares his anti-bullying book “You Never Know” and speaks to the youngsters about the importance of respect and love. Lyrics of the songs written will vary by the group and the age of the writer/authors.
~ “Music empowers others to tell their stories, music is some of the greatest medicine we could ever have.” Lori Dixon, 2016 ~
20160504_121141As Director of Programs, Lori knows the work that goes into this project helps to embolden those who have been brought down by many of life’s struggles and how to use it in a more positive way. This is an amazing project that has not only encouraged those in recovery, in abusive situations, and struggling with low self esteem or bullying to take back their lives, but to use their words to create a musical expression that would encourage healing. The writers round/space where all the magic happens is called The Workshop and you can check it out here; http://www.theworkshopmusic.com/
All the various areas of work with this project is humbling to think of but “Beautiful Minds” is especially close to me because of my own work in mental health. I was intrigued to find out more. Lori and the gang visit with those who are mentally challenged and write heart-warming and compelling songs from the stories of their challenges. The songs are all written right there while every one sits in a group and shares the stories of mountains they’ve climbed and valley’s they have walked through in life.
Plans for the future would be to plan a once a month writers round at local venues throughout Nashville, to continue helping local musicians in need through fund raisers, and to continue giving back new life through song to all those who need a little help healing with the programs through “The Beat of Life.” ~ Lori Dixon~

San Francisco Political Singer/Songwriter Pete Kronowitt Releases New Full-Length Album

A Lone Voice Delivers Timely and Salient Political Message

San Francisco, CA – The hunger Americans feel for change is palpable, and no artist voices this urgency better than San Francisco-based Pete Kronowitt, a seasoned singer/songwriter who is releasing his fourth full-length album, A Lone Voice. Pete’s emotive songs fuse acoustic pop and indie-folk, while evoking an era when music was made to battle injustice. A Lone Voice, releasing worldwide on July 15th, 2016, masterfully explores themes ranging from socio-political struggles to musings on the human condition. His sound is a Steve Earle-Elvis Costello hybrid, a heap of Alt-Americana influences.

The album was recorded and produced in Nashville, Tennessee by Grammy-winning songwriter Phil Madeira, with backing musicians David Mansfield on guitars, mandolin and violin, Dennis Holt on drums and percussion, Chris Donohue on bass, and of course, Phil Madeira on guitars and keys. A Lone Voice features a set of lyrical new songs spanning folk, pop, country, and acoustic-punk influences from the Ramones to Pete Seeger and John Mellencamp.

A Lone Voice stays upbeat, despite presenting some uncomfortable truths and lifting the curtain to reveal political and media manipulation. Audiences will join the chorus of the title track “Change Is Gonna Come” (inspired from Sam Cooke's iconic song) and tap to the beat of the album’s protest anthem “Got Guns?” Through his music, Kronowitt pokes fun at the absurdity of extremism and reminds us, the power of change is always here and now – within ourselves.

There are also intimate, personal moments in this collection, drawing connections between the national zeitgeist and the all-too-human emotional toll it takes on those we love. The smooth and Clapton-esque “You Are Here” reminds listeners (and Pete himself) to be present. “Holding Your Hand” is a gift for his wife after 20 years together, and the tender, album-closing “Perfect Day” is a moving tribute to his sister, who took her own life. “Tears on the Back of Her Head,” co-written with producer Phil Madeira, was written for two friends lost to cancer and their spouses, and may be the most stirring track on A Lone Voice.

Pete Kronowitt has toured internationally in China, Japan, and Vietnam, and across the U.S. in the last few years with long-time friend, collaborator, and 30-year veteran bassist John David Coppola. John, who has toured with The Danny Morris Band, was integral on Pete’s debut album Phases of the Heart. That album was recorded in 1993 at Rutabaga Studios with John Alagia, whose production credits include the Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, and Ben Folds Five. Kronowitt’s second and third albums, Threads and elements, were produced by Pete Snell, who toured extensively with Lyle Lovett.

With an unwavering belief that together, we can raise our voices to demand common sense solutions, Pete reminds us, “The people of these great United States are bound by the many things we have in common, and we must reject any manufactured issues which are cynically created simply to divide us.” With his revolutionary new album, A Lone Voice, Pete Kronowitt has called for a rediscovery of the protest song…and not a moment too soon.

Pete Kronowitt will be performing a CD Release party and delivering his strong political messages to the Agora Theater and Ballroom in Cleveland, OH ahead of the Republican National Convention this July 18-21, 2016.

There will also be various gigs throughout 2016 in the San Francisco Bay Area and across the West Coast.
