Immediate Records Presents "Humble Pie On 79th Street" Limited Edition Vinyl LP - A Secret Release For Record Store Day UK April 21

With Record Store Day fast approaching, you won’t find this special compilation LP by one of the UK’s most iconic bands in any store on April 21st. Except one. “Humble Pie On 79th Street” will only be available from Pie & Vinyl.

Obvious? Or are we bucking the trend of Record Store Day in the manner that Andrew Loog Oldham, legendary founder of Immediate Records and Rolling Stones manager might have done? Or does this oneoff LP celebrate the spirit of RSD more than any other release?

Inspired by the beautiful pied-piperess Katherine who led us all to Pie & Vinyl and discoveries that linked her vibrant, musical town of Portsmouth & Southsea, an amazing record store and the timeless sounds of Humble Pie to dramatic events in Southsea over 40 years ago that culminated in a truly local effort to press the LP in Portsmouth and have it on sale in Southsea for Saturday April 21.

Says Immediate Records reissue producer Rob Caiger: “Wouldn’t it be great if by doing all of this, a new fan on Record Store Day discovers Humble Pie - in Pie & Vinyl - and feels the same excitement hearing ‘Natural Born Bugie’ as I did in my own local record shop Downtown Records many years ago. There’s no better place to hear new sounds (however old…) then in a record shop - and that’s just one reason why we should celebrate Record Store Day.”

One of the first supergroups, Humble Pie formed in 1969 and soon became one of the best-loved, hardest-rocking live acts of the 1970s. In Steve Marriott, the one-time Small Faces frontman, Pie had the best showman and biggest voice in the business. Peter Frampton, ‘Face Of ‘68’ with The Herd, had a new role - guitar hero. And with hard-hitting drummer Jerry Shirley and ex-Spooky Tooth bassist Greg Ridley, Humble Pie quickly developed into a sophisticated studio unit where tough riffs, rustic rock and bursts of blissed-out late psychedelia earned the band instant chart success and critical acclaim.

Supervised by Peter Frampton & Jerry Shirley, all songs have been newly remastered by Nick Robbins at Soundmastering and cut halfspeed by Matt Colton at Alchemy Studios. ‘79th Street Blues’ (take 7) was recorded at Olympic Studios on 3 January 1970 and mixed by Rob Keyloch at Church Walk Studios exclusively for this LP and will not appear anywhere else.

Strictly limited to 1,000 LPs pressed in Portsmouth at Vinyl Presents. On sale in Southsea on Record Store Day at Pie & Vinyl and worldwide from April 22 for one week via www.pieandvinyl.co.uk. Any remaining LPs after this period will be sold worldwide via www.immediate-records.com

Vinyl Review: The Animals No. 2 10" Vinyl EP

Format: 10” EP 45 RPM LP
Genre: Blues/Rock
Release Date: April 18, 2015
Label: ABKCO Records

The Animals are one of those legendary blues bands from England that popularized the blues and brought it into the mainstream by injecting rock music into their sound.

ABKCO Records is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of their 3rd British EP with the release of a high quality vinyl release. This special Record Store Day release was never before released in the U.S. and now it is cut at 45 RPM on 10" black vinyl for audio fidelity. How sweet it is indeed. This will be a fine addition to your library of music if you happen to be a collector not to mention a lover of vintage British white boy blues.

This music was meant to be heard on vinyl and not in a digital format. The LP cover is perfect as it shows the band during that time period. It is hard to believe that 1965 sounds that far away especially if you were just a little tike at the time.

Eric Burdon (vocals), Bryan (Chas.) Chandler (bass), Hilton Valentine (lead guitar), Alan Price (electric organ) and John Steel (drums) were in this early line up.

The four tracks are an excellent representation of The Animals electrified blues. Burdon’s soulful distinctive vocals ride along the top of the music as it churns and burns the midnight oil. Side One opens with “I’m in Love” a Burdon original, then comes a number by Price tiled “Bury My Body.” It is interesting how one mood of happiness and a joy of life goes straight away into the moroseness of death, but that’s what the blues are all about. Both are bubbling over with spot on vocals and fine musicianship.

As side two spins two covers are the topic. “I’m Mad Again” a classic John Lee Hooker track done very well and “She Said Yeah,” a bit of a rave up if you will but still soaked in the blues. So you get the best of both worlds on this short jaunt into Animals history, a taste of originals and covers.

This was an enjoyable listen for me, I am big Animals fan and really appreciate the tribute to their early sounds and classic EP releases. I am glad I have it to hold and add to my collection and I suggest you get your copy before they all disappear!

Rock Fusion Review: Dave Matthews Band-Recently – Two 10” 180 Gram Vinyl EPs

Release Date: November 28, 2014
Label: Legacy

For the vinyl lovers of Earth, Record Store Day is an amazing time filled with limited edition vinyl releases from some of our favorite bands. And not only do we get one day in April, but we get a second day on Black Friday. The Dave Matthews Band has been a part of Record Store Day for a few years now, releasing their Live Trax series in chronological order. However, on Black Friday 2014, DMB rolled out a very special 10” 180 gram vinyl edition of their first EP Recently, along with a second disc containing the hard to find “Pumpkin Recently” Promo EP. It comes in a gatefold jacket with the two different covers, and you will find a download code on the inside so you can get MP3 version of the music as well. A nice little surprise, considering this may be one of the only ways fans will get the Promo EP in any form.

Although many of the songs found on the EP can be heard on their debut album Remember Two Things, there is still plenty to be enjoyed from here from fans and collectors alike. For instance, there are two different edits of the title track. There is a radio edit of “Tripping Billies” that chops nearly 4 minutes off the Remember Two Things version, but still retains what I would consider essential listening material, including Carter Beauford’s phenomenal drum skills. Intimate acoustic versions of “Warehouse” and “Dancing Nancies” show these tracks in some of their earliest incarnations before making the big time on DMB’s major label release Under the Table and Dreaming. Finally, explosive versions of “All Along the Watchtower” and “Halloween” showcase the raw talent of the band even in their earliest days.

Aside from being a cool collector’s item (and the easiest way to snatch up the rare Promo EP), DMB’s vinyl release of Recently is an incredible value. Two 180 gram 10” records, a nice gatefold jacket, an MP3 download code, and over 40 minutes of breathtaking music make this an item fans shouldn’t miss. The price may seem a bit steep, but it is well worth it.

Miles Davis "Blue Xmas"   7" 45 RPM blue vinyl single
In 1962, Miles Davis, Gil Evans and bebop singer Bob Dorough turned the holiday season on its ear with "Blue Xmas," a jazzy original mocking the commercialism of the Christmas season. Released in 1971, The Kinks' Muswell Hillbillies found the quintessentially British band painting a vivid portrait of working class life in North London, with a sonic palette that drew from turn-of-the-century British music hall and American country styles. Rolling Stone would call it Ray Davies' "signature statement" as a songwriter. This deluxe 2LP edition features the original album paired with a bonus vinyl disc of rarities and outtakes from the original album sessions as well as BBC sessions recorded for John Peel.

Various Artists - American Hustle Soundtrack 2LP - 1 Red 1 Blue Colored 150G Vinyl
