US Progger Leon Alvarado Unveils Two-Song EP “Brain Damage” and Mesmerizing Video Ahead of Upcoming Album

Featuring cover of Pink Floyd’s “Brain Damage”!

Renowned prog artist Leon Alvarado is set to captivate fans once again with the release of a two-song EP, offering a tantalizing glimpse into his forthcoming album slated for release later this year. The EP features a stunning cover of Pink Floyd’s “Brain Damage,” marking Alvarado’s first release since his critically acclaimed electronic prog album, “Charging The Electric Dream,” debuted last year.

Known for his innovative approach to music, Alvarado collaborated with a group of talented local musicians for this project, infusing their live cover rendition of “Brain Damage” with a fresh, studio-produced sound. Mastered by the acclaimed Maor Appelbaum, the track promises to deliver a unique blend of nostalgia and contemporary flair.

In addition to “Brain Damage,” the EP includes a captivating new instrumental track titled “Dance of The Pink Elephants.” Exploring the theme of alcohol hallucinosis, Alvarado's latest creation blends psychedelic tones with intricate melodies, offering listeners a mesmerizing auditory experience. The track features Tony Franklin (The Firm) on fretless bass and Edoardo Scordo on guitars.

Pushing the boundaries of creativity even further, Alvarado turned to cutting-edge AI technology to produce a visually stunning video for the EP. Created by a studio in Serbia, the video features surrealistic imagery inspired by the unconscious mind, perfectly complementing the ethereal quality of the music.

Speaking about the video, Alvarado remarked, “I wanted to create visuals that felt like a journey through a surrealistic painting, and AI was the perfect tool to bring that vision to life. The result is truly mesmerizing, and I can't wait for fans to experience it.”

The EP is set to release on all major streaming platforms on March 26, offering fans a taste of what’s to come from Alvarado's highly anticipated new album. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new release.

Deko Entertainment Releases Lisa Gee’s Debut EP 'Shut It Down' Produced By Rock Legend Carmine Appice!

Initial singles and videos “Shut It Down” and “Love Thing” Out Now!

Stockton, NJ - Shut it Down, the new EP by acclaimed singer/songwriter Lisa Gee, offers a musical tribute to the human experience. Songs of love, hate, exhilaration, exuberance, and the inevitable fallout we are all forced to confront at some point in our lives, radiate from the record via its cutting-edge production, infectious rhythms, and powerful vocals. Gee delivers this to her listeners and more, in a compact celebration of enchantments, vicissitudes, and uncertainties.

“This is a record about life and all one will experience when we live it to the fullest,” says Gee. “It’s not always great and hopefully it’s not too hard to get through, but when it’s good, it can be very good and very memorable. That’s how I’ve gone through it, so far.”

View the video for the title track here: https://youtu.be/9xs_7wtXzs4

Produced and co-arranged by legendary rock drummer Carmine Appice, Shut It Down is a departure from Gee's typical sound, which often featured her multi-instrumentalist abilities. Appice, listed as one of greatest drummers of all time by ROLLING STONE and an accomplished songwriter and producer in his own right (Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, Beck Bogert Appice; Ozzy Osbourne, and Rod Stewart), wanted to give Gee’s music a heavier foundation, accented by rougher edges and sterling production values. In the end, it forced the more traditional singer/songwriter to step outside of her previous musical comfort zone into something more visionary. In addition to Appice, who drummed on all the songs, veteran bassist James LoMenzo (Megadeth, John Fogerty, Black Label Society, White Lion) and Don Mancuso (Lou Gramm Band, Black Sheep, D-Drive, Lips Turn Blue) are also featured on the EP.

“I’ve been so lucky to work with a musical and studio pro like Carmine,” adds Gee. “From Ozzy, Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart to his own popular groups, Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, King Kobra and Blue Murder, Carmine brings decades of success and experience to a project like this. He took what I was creating to a whole new level.”

“Lisa Gee is the real deal,” says Appice. “She can play a multitude of instruments and has great songwriting and arranging skills. She was willing to go somewhere different in her musical journey on this record, and that made all the difference.”

A classically trained multi-instrumentalist, Gee is also a prolific songwriter, having written well over 200 songs. She remembers writing her first song at the age of four: “Music has been a passion as far back as I can remember.” Aside from working years in the legal community and having a side gig creating music videos for several artists, she finds time to ride. “Yes, you can add ‘The Original Biker Chick’ to my long list of accomplishments,” laughs Gee. “The boys in leather don’t take me seriously until I show up on my 1980 Harley Davidson Low Rider or my 2016 Indian Chief Vintage. I’ve been riding almost as long as I’ve been writing music.”

Her single “Love Thing” was previewed earlier this year through Deko Entertainment (ADA/Warner Music Group) and was her first co-write with Appice. “It’s an up-tempo pop/rock song that contemplates infatuation, love at first sight, and the beat of your heart when your crush is in your sights,” says Gee. “In fact, it was inspired by a chance encounter with The Ramones when I was very young…but that’s a different story.”

Shut it Down is a new chapter in the musical adventures of Lisa Gee. Her creative scope is so broad the label wasn’t sure how to define her initially. Upon hearing her music and seeing the videos, Deko President, Bruce Pucciarello, cryptically quipped, “What the f**k is Lisa Gee doing?”

She responded with this: https://youtu.be/yqX22abexrk

For the time being, let’s just say: “She’s being Lisa Gee.”

DONOVAN PLANT & THE LEAFS Release New Melodic and Hook-Laden 3-song EP NIGHT FEEL GOOD

San Francisco, CA – Former San Francisco private detective Donovan Plant spent nearly two decades chasing leads and tailing cheaters before returning to his musical roots in 2011. Since then, he has released two solo records, and now with the band he formed in 2018, DONOVAN PLANT & THE LEAFS are set to release their new 3-song EP NIGHT FEEL GOOD on June 23, 2023! Donovan Plant blends rock, country, and pop with lyrics inspired by the city. Citing influences such as David Bowie, The Cars, and Jackson Brown, Donovan’s keen ear for hooks and melody is on full display with NIGHT FEEL GOOD, recorded inside the world-famous Hyde Street Studios at Dreamrack Studios by producer and engineer Trent Berry.

Donovan formed DONOVAN PLANT & THE LEAFS in 2018, a group that includes drummer Lliam Hart (Information Society/Wire Train), bassist Mike Henry (Minus One) and lead guitarist Jason Rojek (Sugar Crash). Lliam, Mike, and Jason have been playing live and recording together for decades. When Lliam joined with Donovan for some live shows about ten years ago, he quickly recognized Donovan’s talent for song writing and quietly set about a plan to incorporate his friends Jason and Mike into the band, a plan which worked brilliantly. In a stroke of mis-spelling genius they then named this creation THE LEAFS.

Grow,” the first track on the new NIGHT FEEL GOOD EP, is a song that grew out of the pandemic era, calling on our collective deep-rooted philanthropic beliefs. Aside from the obvious idea that Plants and Leafs both need to grow, the song also attempts to address depression and self-doubt. The group initially planned to record just this single, but the chemistry between producer Trent Berry and the band was so good that they found a way to record two more songs.

Donovan originally wrote the verses to the title track “Night Feel Good” with his childhood friend and former band mate Tony Siligo over 30 years ago. The song speaks to the contrast between night and day, and to a higher power running it all. He redeveloped the song with THE LEAFS, adding a new chorus and sonic direction, and found it was a dream come true to use his brand new Gretsch G5420T Electromatic Hollowbody on the recording!

Answering the call of deja vu and premonition, the third EP track “White Wolf” came from a shamanic meditation and hypnosis session that Donovan had with his friend and former drummer David R. Walsh (CHT, RMT, Certified Hypnotherapist, Shamanic and Spiritual Counselor). The session revealed his spirit animal, a white wolf named Oshi, and musical inspiration was born. The song includes one of Donovan’s favorite lines, “I’m climbing mountains / Swimming oceans” a perfectly concise summation of how he wants to live his life.

Donovan has previously released two solo EP’s, Be With You (Niteflite Music - Germany) in 2011, which included a video produced by Ricky Kelley, and City Lights (Angel Blossom Records) with producer Scott Mickelson in 2018.  He also had the honor of playing inside San Quentin State Prison as part of its annual Day of Peace celebrations with the non-profit organization Bread & Roses Presents for two consecutive years in 2016 and 2017.

A San Francisco Bay Area native and true renaissance man, Donovan Plant was a state champion ice hockey player by age 15 before pursuing a 17-year career as a licensed private investigator. He has also played bass in the band Pleasure Parade, and currently plays bass for Girls With Guns, a group fronted by La-ni Mae Lithman, daughter of the infamous guitarist Snakefinger (Philip Lithman) of The Residents.

DONOVAN PLANT & THE LEAFS plan to go back into the studio with Trent Berry this September and have various Bay Area shows scheduled throughout 2023 in support of NIGHT FEEL GOOD!

Donovan has a very keen ear for hooks, melody, inflection, structure, delivery, and other pop sensibilities, making it so easy to bond with his songs, which wind up being uniquely his own style while keeping a timeless quality.” - Brendan Getzell, Hotel Utah Open Mic

Donovan’s song “The Universe Is A Yes Machine” is an achievement in itself, part real autobiography, part inspiring and uplifting philosophy and all good music, a hit with heart.” - Alan Monasch, Artist, music blogger

Two New EPs From Held By Trees Recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios Released Exclusively by InnerSleeve.com

Featuring Paul McCartney/Pretenders guitar legend Robbie McIntosh!

Hot on the heels of their critically acclaimed debut album, “Solace”, instrumental project Held By Trees is excited to be releasing two new EPs this year on Sound Canyon Records through InnerSleeve.com recorded at Peter Gabriel’s famous Real World Studios, the first EP is comprised of live versions of five tracks from “Solace”. The six-piece live iteration of Held By Trees brings together three of the Talk Talk/Mark Hollis alumni that contributed to “Solace” including renowned guitarist Robbie McIntosh. The band recorded playing all together in the ‘Big Room’ at Real World in November 2022, a week after their debut live performances.

The second EP is an entirely new suite of pieces themed on the transition from daylight to darkness. Entitled “Eventide”, it was tracked live at Real World Studios and then additional layers were added by musicians in America and Canada, by old friends of project leader David Joseph.

The twin EPs will be released on separate CDs and as two sides of one vinyl pressing by new American record label, Sound Canyon and their retail arm www.InnerSleeve.com

The new material sees Held By Trees continue to create instrumental music characterized by skilled improvisation over spacious, epic arrangements. The music draws on the influence of Van Morrison and John Martyn, alongside their usual late Talk Talk and Pink Floyd references. The live versions of “Solace” tracks bring a fresh intensity to the music, with a heavier vibe created by the band in real time.

The main musicians who worked on the new EPs are…
Laurence Pendrous - piano
James Grant - bass, double bass
Robbie McIntosh - guitar
David Joseph - guitar
Andy Panayi - flute, clarinet, saxophone

Americana Ensemble AUBURN Featuring Liz Lenten To Release “FAVOURITE MISTAKE EP” on April 28, 2023

After lockdown, desperate to reconnect with music, singer/songwriter Liz Lenten spent a year with the TSA (The Songwriting Academy) writing at home, in her Lincolnshire countryside studio, and after a few song assignments (from the brilliant mentors), set to challenge her, she ended up with a whole bunch of new songs….recording initially at home, then adding instruments and musicians via cyberspace in London, Wales, Sussex and even Australia - until sending everything to Nashville to award-winning long-time collaborator and producer, Thomm Jutz, to finish off recording and mix.

The first 4 completed tracks make up the digital “FAVOURITE MISTAKE EP”, which will be released on April 28th. A further 4 track digital EP will be released in September 2023, and a vinyl, with both EPs + 4 extra new songs, will be out at end of the year.

As always, the lyrical themes cover a myriad of emotions – Love, Resignation, Betrayal, Metamorphosis, Yearning…amongst others!

With wonderful contributions from Thomm Jutz (guitars), Mo Pleasure (bass), JB Bennetts (drums), Ruth Elder & London String Group (cello/violin), Eden Parish & Ivan Toolit (harmonies), Will Fowler (piano), and featuring Nottingham-based rapper - Sanka GBM.

“…. it’s Indie-Americana / singer-songwriter….so many different, but well-blended ingredients – it’s beautiful – and very Auburn….…perfect for a road trip playlist!!” - Pat Garvey/CILC

The second digital EP will be released in the Autumn, and finally a vinyl, with both EP’s + extra new recordings, to be released in time for Christmas.

Auburn will be playing some UK festivals summer 2023 – keep an eye on website and socials for info:

Progressive Arena Rock Band Days Before Tomorrow Returns With New EP, Releases Video for the Single, “Has Time Moved On?”

Montville, NJ — After a ten-years hiatus, the award-winning melodic progressive arena rock band, Days Before Tomorrow, is back with its long-awaited record, Now and Then Part II: Stories and Dreams. The record was recorded years ago but went unreleased as band members went on to pursue other musical projects. Regrouped and reinvigorated, this explosive set of previously unreleased material—freshly mixed by James Linton (Bobby Kimball)—will stun long-time DB4T fans and introduce an entirely new audience of discerning listeners to another epic rock band worthy of their attention.

With a vibe that is hard rocking and precise, featuring soaring lead vocals and multi-part harmonies surrounded by technical musical instrumentals that almost require the listener to unleash his/her inner air guitarist and air drummer, it’s hard to place Days Before Tomorrow in one basic category like prog metal or arena rock. This is a genre-defying group that appeals to fans of everyone from Kansas and Styx to Porcupine Tree and Dream Theater.

The band is actively writing and recording a collection of entirely new material as well. Now and Then Part I will be released in Spring 2023 and will be supported by live performances and festival appearances (to be announced).

Watch the promotional video here: https://youtu.be/Xa5to-kyKS0

Current Days Before Tomorrow lineup:
Eric Klein: vocals
Scott Kahn: guitars, backing vocals
Derek Davodowich: guitars, backing vocals
John Gale: keyboards, backing vocals
Alain Anthony: bass
Matt Maldonado: drums

History:
Days Before Tomorrow was formed in 2006 by guitarist/keyboardist Scott Kahn and keyboardist Jason Buchwald, who were joined shortly after by vocalist Eric Klein. After an alt rock-styled debut EP that featured drummer Kevin Soffera (Seether), the lineup evolved and solidified around second guitarist Derek Davodowich, bassist Robert “Zeek” Maziekien (Eternity X), and drummer Jason Gianni (Neal Morse Band, Joe Deninzon/Stratospheerius).

With a new focus on melodic progressive rock and arena rock, the band went on to record its 2009 phenom, The Sky Is Falling, with legendary music producer Ron Nevison (Jefferson Starship, Heart, Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy, and more). Mixed by Grammy Award-winning engineer Earl Cohen (Pink, Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston), the album won Record of the Year in the 2009 Los Angeles Music Awards along with numerous other accolades including a Grammy nomination, but the group disbanded three years later after recording (but not releasing) a riveting follow-up record, which has now been released.

Reconciliation among band members left the door to future collaboration open, and in 2022, Scott, Derek, and Eric decided it was time to put Days Before Tomorrow back into action with a few new musicians added to the lineup. Racing against the clock, DB4T have massive plans for 2023 with multiple new releases, videos, and concert performances.

3. “That Song About the Midway” – a semi-acoustic version of Joni Mitchell’s beautiful song from her 1969 album, “Clouds.” (Dyanne first heard the song at age 16, right after joining her first professional band, and has loved the song since)

CIRCUS MIND Continues to Deliver With Their New Album BIOLUMINATE

New York, NYCIRCUS MIND is a New York-based rock outfit and the brainchild of singer/songwriter and keyboardist Mark Rechler. The band is about to celebrate its 20th year and will unveil their fourth release BIOLUMINATE on June 17, 2022. BIOLUMINATE continues to capture the CIRCUS MIND spirit as they weave through past, present, and funky future.

The first BIOLUMINATE single “Baby Come Back Down” (featuring NoLa guitarist Marc Paradis of Johnny Sketch and The Dirty Notes) released March 18 has a funky driving Caribbean backbeat mixed with rock and soul vibes and delicious synthesizer work. Opening track and second official single “West End Road” feels like you’re in the gospel tent at Jazzfest while mixin’ in some swampy rock reminiscent of Little Feat, Taj Mahal and The Radiators. Special guest Nels Cline of Wilco shines on the standout track “Miss Fortune” a slower paced beauty, while special guests Matty Fox and Matt Godfrey from the Brandon “Taz” Niederauer Band bring the album full circle on the final track “Vampire Blues.” Longtime bassist Chris Crosby, who passed during the recording of the album, appears on four of the tracks.

CIRCUS MIND is a camouflaged Cephalopod that can change colors, moods and styles in an instant, swimming from jazzy groove rock to funky reggae roots with ease. Their previous release JOY MACHINE featured Big Sam, Marc Ribot, Ivan Neville, Walter Wolfman Washington, Scott Metzger, and more. An eclectic collection of ’70s rock and funk with modern takes on N’awlins swamp rock mixed with Beatles pop, the first JOY MACHINE single “Are You Ready?” featured guest guitar phenom Brandon “Taz” Niederauer, and its music video was well received by critics and fans alike.

Their earlier release “Silver Flower” was voted one of the Best Indie Albums of 2006 by Newsday and put a modern take on influences such as Traffic, Steely Dan, Little Feat, and Mott the Hoople while mixing in NoLa vibe influences like Dr. John, The Meters and The Neville Brothers. The CIRCUS MIND single “Jazzfest Time” was released as an ode to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. CIRCUS MIND has opened for national acts (Toots & The Maytals, The Neville Brothers, The Radiators) and had many notable guests sit in on their recordings and live performances (Soulive, Rebirth Brass Band, Cyril Neville).

CIRCUS MIND’s members are diverse in their influences and playing styles. Lead vocalist, songwriter and keyboardist Mark Rechler performs with multiple projects and has played, toured, and recorded with members of The Meters, The Neville Brothers, The Radiators, Soulive, The Brandon “Taz” Niederauer Band, Rebirth Brass Band, Ivan Neville, and more. Spending five years in New Orleans studying music, art, & architecture helped influence his style and direction, and he always keeps his listeners salivating and wanting more.

Guitarist Jaime Scott has toured the world as a guitarist and engineer, with renowned ensemble John Lurie and the Lounge Lizards. In doing so he followed the lineage of the legendary and influential Lounge Lizard’s guitarists who came before him. “Baby Come Back Down” also features late and long-time CIRCUS MIND bassist Chris Crosby, who had studied with Oteil Burbridge of The Allman Brothers Band and Dead & Co.

The band’s rhythm section features drummer Dan Roth, a driving force of funky world influences and percussionist Steve Finkelstein, who has worked recorded and performed with pop icons from Ray Charles as well as jam band giants including members of the Dead, Allman’s, and Neville’s, and Tower of Power. Steve is also a founding member of the Funk Filharmonik.

New Member Saxophonist Michael Amendola holds a BA in Arranging from The Berklee College of Music. Credits include touring, film scores, jingles, and Broadway shows. Michael was a member of The Tony Trischka Band for 7 years, producing 2 recordings on Rounder Records and as a leader, released the jazz recording "Big Sunflower" on CDC Records. Also joining the party is Leandro Da Silva, a multi-faceted bassist from São Paulo, Brazil who brings elements of Samba and Funk that can be heard in his diverse playing style.

Texas Experimental Rock Trio Xanthan To Release Eclectic Debut EP “Succubus Swing”

Xanthan is a three piece experimental rock band from Houston Texas featuring Boz Miller (drums), Max Miller (guitars), and Corin Gatwood (6 string basses). The trio will be releasing their debut six-track EP “Succubus Swing” on May 24th which features half instrumentals and half songs with vocals.

Says Corin, “The album has a lot of moods. There is a lot of humor in it for us. Hence the titles, but also just how we've managed to compose the songs. It's all playful. We always try something different in each song. A lot of the lyrics were inspired by strange and unsettling experiences I have had with certain people. The music was written first; but while working on the instrumentals, it put me in the right mood to write about some dark stuff. Plus, it was during late 2020, early 2021. It was still the pandemic, and hell froze over in Texas. A surreal time can be a good time to be creative, I suppose.

When recording the album, the music came first, but the band would adjust things for vocals as needed. Recording was fast. Every track was the three members recording live in Corin’s living room / practice space with no click track. Corin relates, “The track ‘Ms. Haan’ was made from noisy stuff I made on a tape machine, and me banging on the side of my washing machine. My hope was for it to evoke the anxiety of being a child again; alone, in school, or a building with scary noises and machines humming away. And it made for a good segue.”

This E.P. features two of Xanthan’s early instrumental tracks (“1934” and “Colliskeions 23”). The trio wanted to include them on this release to demonstrate their early sound, but the opening track (“HYBYC”) and the last three are songs the band is most proud of.

In closing Corin has this to say, “Just give it a listen in your car stereo on a sweltering summer night, in a dark, small town alleyway.”

Track List:
HYBYC

So-Cal Indie Rockers The Grinns Release New Single “Conan O’Brien" From Forthcoming EP “Let’s Go Out”

Indie garage band The Grinns will be releasing their new single “Conan O'Brien” on February 24th from their forthcoming EP “Let’s Go Out” (March 18).

Known for their live performances, The Grinns are the best band you’re about to hear about. Emerging out of the bustling indie garage scene of sunny Orange County CA, The Grinns have carved out a unique path for themselves. Initially embracers of styles typical to the surf rock / indie garage scene, The Grinns have always been pop musicians at their very core. Even after diverting in several stylistic directions, their music mentality has remained integral to their function as a group.

Composed of singer Joey Sci-Fi, guitarist Francisco Jorquiera, drummer Frederico Hadyka, and producers/multi-instrumentalists Ramtin Khoee & Mike Perry, The Grinns have no limits when it comes to the music they’ll create…

Whether you’re jumping off a stage, running from the police or sipping tea, this is music handcrafted for your moment, wherever you may be.

Let’s Go Out” EP:

“OUR HOUSE OUR RULES”
A brash, slow-rolling groove of art-funk swagger. Letting go of your worries, surrendering to the music, letting the good times roll. Feeling on top of the world, feeling like a King/Queen. A party song.

“EEYORE”
An intense, driving statement-piece, bursting at the seams with jittery disco-pop. Caffeine, coca-cola, & anything else that is derived from the cocoa plant. About feeling so entranced, so enamored & in love with somebody, you don’t know what to do with yourself. If OUR HOUSE OUR RULES is the party, then EEYORE is the party-drug.

“CONAN O’BRIEN”
Fun, happy & confident. Like going outside & feeling like the coolest person to ever breathe. A road trip with your friends, wind in your hair, smiles-all-around type of way. Although the lyrics for this one are currently under construction, the overall theme involves the feeling of confidence & swagger when putting on new clothes & shopping. The thrift-shopper’s anthem. Feeling so awesome, you feel like Conan O’Brien.

“ROLL THE DICE”
A dark-ish & lowkey jam, pulsating with soft funk & drop-of-a-pin sensation. Sunglasses indoors. Rolled up cigarettes. You need to know the password to get in here, this club is the most exclusive in town. About feeling on-the-fence about a certain affair. Do we stay right here and keep it fun & casual, or do we take this to the next level, gamble it all for something even steamier. I don’t know the answer. That’s why I wrote this song.

In support of their new EP, The Grinns will be playing select tour dates in March.

3/11 - The Roxy - Los Angeles, CA

Announcing the Release of the Second SQUEAKEY STUDIOS EP OUR FRIENDSHIP WAS WAY AHEAD OF ITS TIME

Featuring seven new tracks from the gang upstairs at SQUEAKEY STUDIOS

In the follow-up to their debut EP Eventually, We’re All Golden, the SQUEAKEY STUDIOS crew located up there among the trees continues their steady stream of releases, working not only in the purely digital realm, but also in that tried and true guitar/bass/drums/voice format. They now drop a wide-ranging smorgasbord of engagingly elliptical songs collectively titled OUR FRIENDSHIP WAS WAY AHEAD OF ITS TIME, including REDAKTR’s retro dawn-of-the-air-age hypnosis “Mr. Aeroplane,” the lonesome Nashville whine of Seth Framer on “You Drive Me Into The Middle Of Next Week,” and his whisky-swilling cautionary banger “No No No.”

Additionally, for this EP, REDAKTR is releasing two intricate in-the-box beat-heavy instrumental meditations: “The Invention Of One” and “The Master Key.”

REDAKTR and Seth Framer also expand their collaboration with the dreamy and unexpected “Free For A Minute,” and the gritty first-person stream-of-consciousness rocker “Redeemed In The Sanctity (You Gotta Have It Even).”

SQUEAKEY STUDIOS: In a creaky third-floor flat, surrounded by big old trees, they stuffed in an array of instruments and work when they can between school, jobs and all those other duties that make up an everyday life. They track mostly during the day, and their neighbors kindly put up with them. When SQUEAKEY STUDIOS added the little sub to the monitor layout, they knew they would have to tread lightly, at least sonically.

REDAKTR is an amalgam of unwilling and sometimes unruly musicians who love any good song. You gotta own it: Karen Carpenter had an incredible voice and even The Partridge Family hired the best. Working together or separately, REDAKTR makes it up as it goes along. Few of us have a plan, and even fewer of us know what that plan might be.

Seth Framer took the first train out and, when that didn’t get them all the way, ditched the suitcase, and went it alone. From the Great Western Range to the Gulf Stream, from the Galveston beaches to the Quetico waters and all points in between, Seth Framer has focused on the One, keeping their fingers clean, and washing their mouth out with soap on an all-too-regular regular basis. There aren’t enough pages for the stories Seth Framer tells, and there never will be.

Available now on all music platforms and wherever you consume music.

Leslie Hunt, Lead-Singer With Prog Ensemble District 97 & American Idol Finalist, To Release “Descend” EP October 22, 2021

Contrary to the title, District 97 lead-singer and ex-American Idol finalist, Leslie Hunt continues her upward trajectory with “Descend”, her brand new solo seven-track EP.

“Descend” marks Part Two of a 2-EP set, and is the follow-up to “Ascend”, which was released in June.

Featuring another set of seven adeptly crafted songs, each one a testament to Leslie Hunt’s progressively assured songwriting ability.

Where the seven tracks on “Ascend” dealt with matters relating to the heart and soul, the songs on “Descend” deal predominantly with freedom of the individual and their attempt to find a place within an increasingly complex and sometimes harsh society.

Leslie Hunt’s eclectic range of influences move naturally among the seven songs on “Descend” traversing an array of genres.

Track Listing:
DON’T MAKE ME COME BACK THERE
AGAIN + AGAIN
QUIET MIND
BIG WHITE FLAG
THESE DAYS
SO MANY TIMES

Pop-Rock Duo The Mangoes To Release New EP “Pale Blue Dot” On July 19, 2021

Pop-Rock Duo The Mangoes will be releasing their new EP “Pale Blue Dot” on July 19, 2021. The Mangoes was formed by Tim Morse and Bret Bingham in 2014. Conceived as a songwriting collective, their first album “The Mangoes” was well received as a pop-rock, tongue-in-cheek concept album. After a break where Bret and Tim both released solo albums, they have reformed and are about to release a new EP entitled “Pale Blue Dot.”

Says Bret, “In general, the concept of the CD was inspired by the existential musings of Carl Sagan and his observation that ‘The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena.’ The extension of this is to look outward, beyond our myopic viewpoints, and realize that each of us is a very small part of something much larger.” Tim continues, “I see the album as a song cycle with ‘Pale Blue Dot’ as the starting and ending point, it is the fulcrum of this music. All of the other songs are vignettes about people and events that take place on the ‘Pale Blue Dot.’”

At the beginning of the pandemic Tim got in touch with Bret about making some music together - not necessarily reviving The Mangoes. For example, they had recently done a cover of the Pink Floyd song “Dogs” (that appeared on Tim Morse’s last album “The Archaeology Project”) and it was just credited to Morse/Bingham. However, Bret sent Tim around ten song ideas and the majority of them seemed to be Mango-y songs, so the duo leaned into that direction. There are a variety of genres on this project, there’s a blues-y gospel feel to “Hypnotized” and a The Band/Dylan vibe of “When the Sky Fell Down.” It isn’t Progressive Rock, but has an Art-Rock flavor like the Alan Parsons Project, The Moody Blues and even a bit of Pink Floyd.

Says Bret, “I had a rough outline for most of the songs. Tim helped me with the initial selection of songs to work on and then was a sounding board, helping to fill in the gaps wherever it was needed. Tim chose the Beatles’ song ‘Free as a Bird’ as a cover. I was very pleased with how the themes of the song and overall feel fit in with the rest of the songs.”

Tim and Bret had recorded The Mangoes eponymous debut album remotely, so they continued this process. It involves a lot of file sharing and emails. But this worked well during the pandemic.

Says Tim, “Bret and I have a very easy working relationship. We were in a band together before we started The Mangoes and we’ve been friends for years so there is a lot of shorthand between us. Also, there’s an openness about making suggestions regarding the music and arrangements, etc. I wish all recording projects were as smooth!”

Bret Bingham is a singer, songwriter and guitarist. His music has appeared on multiple television and cable shows including Access Hollywood, Fox’s Brimstone, E True Hollywood Story and MTV’s Made. Bret’s latest solo album is “The Well Curve” and was released in 2017.

Tim Morse is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He was a member of the Jerry Jennings Band and Parallels (Yes tribute). He has released three albums of original music that were well received in the Progressive Rock community.  Tim’s most recent album is a retrospective entitled “The Archaeology Project.” He is an author and his books “Yesstories” and “Classic Rock Stories” were published by the St. Martin's Press.

Like Klaatu at times, but also very much like The Beatles.” - Music Street Journal

The Mangoes bring the spirit of 20th century pop-rock alive and well into the 21st century.” - Robert Silverstein, mwe3.com

Refreshing, I would say!” - Music in Belgium

An interesting band with perhaps the most unique sound today.” - Criticaljazz.com

An absolute delight!” - Simon Barrett, blogtalkradio

The nineteen songs are concise pop gems.” - papasrecordsandcds.com

The Mangoes are actually what happens when you mix progressive rock with the pop sensibilities of The Beatles!” – Exclusive Magazine

In closing Bret has this to impart, “The lesson of the Pale Blue Dot is to preserve and cherish what we’ve got. I think that is a fine message.” Says Tim, “Sagan’s speech talks about how fragile and unique our planet is and how we should be better caretakers of it - I think that is reflected in the songs as well.”

The Mangoes hope to release a new video soon!

Prog Ensemble Head With Wings To Release New Concept EP “Comfort in Illusion”

“We often start naive and green and either blossom into something remarkable, or we fizzle out - resigning to the life that we feared all along; the one we've been resisting - an uncertain path, a repetitive/menial existence, and the promise of a life without limitations. How far are you willing to go to either abandon or protect the way of life that you've been leading?”

These words paint the scene for the first act of alternative progressive rock quartet Head with Wings’ next chapter.

Amidst sweeping changes felt on a global scale, aspirations were put on hold, radiant futures dimmed, lives ended prematurely, and dreams were left to rot on the vine. For so many, the struggle was a silent one - a daily war waged alone.

On their forthcoming EP, “Comfort In Illusion,” Head with Wings draws the listener into the isolated, agonizing, and momentarily euphoric struggle for self-actualization amidst the stifling frame of an increasingly unfamiliar world.

The collective’s first output since 2018’s critically-acclaimed debut, “From Worry to Shame,” presents a concise summation of the group’s collective growth as artists and individuals. “Comfort in Illusion” dives deeper into the quartet’s textural and emotive sound exploration with a timely personal narrative of self-discovery and the anxiety of change.

Says lead vocalist Josh Corum, “‘The Comfort in Illusion’ EP has a two-fold meaning, but we realize that it’s subject to the listener’s interpretation and we fully embrace that. To the band, it operates in a binary fashion narratively; connecting to the protagonist of our debut album From Worry to Shame (2018), while also paving the way for an alternatively surreal story, that is told in tandem with a specific point in the protagonist’s timeline on the debut (parallel to the songs “From Worry to Shame” and “Beyond the Wall”).  Admittedly, this wasn’t my initial intention, but intuitively I wound up here some years down the line after these songs were initially conceived. The music on this EP isn’t motivically or thematically linked to the debut, but rather, connected through narrative/thematic concepts and visual interpretations through our music videos.”

“Of Uncertainty’s” hypnotic sway and surreal acoustic and electric voice-painting opens the three-movement suite in arresting fashion. A fitting bridge from the world of old to that of the new, the single embodies everything in seven crisp minutes that make Head with Wings a singular presence in a rock landscape that has been all too content to echo the hallmarks of yesteryear.

Andrew Testa’s inspired and mature drum performance radiates intention; giving the song an addicting sense of weightless movement, while Brandon Cousino and Mike Short’s soulful and dexterous lead guitars shade and illuminate the scene around the striking vocal character of Joshua Corum. These qualities are further enhanced by the single’s immersive visual accompaniment provided by Black Soil’s talented animation crew.

Cathartic and soothing, “Contemplating the Loop” exercises the group’s fluid command of abstract rhythm, leaving the listener to feel, rather than think their way through its floating, ever-shifting pulse. Anchored by Steve Hill’s silky bass runs, the song sets the constant ebb and flow of self-doubt and willful determination to sound.

Finally, the tumultuous, mathy voyage of “In a House Without Clocks” brings the concise three-track journey to a poignant coda. Bittersweet and overflowing with yearning, Corum leaves the listener with the parting questions: “Would you consider a life without a path … or would you fear it would all just fall apart—the plan that never started, the waters left uncharted?”

The odyssey feels both hopeful and grave—reckoning with an ever-fleeting sense of a gratifying future drifting further away each day, and the uncertainty of correcting course. The dark side of pursuing one’s dreams and the toll time takes on ambitions that were once so vivid are laid bare. Swelling into heart-searing vocal peaks and commanding streaks of expressive lead guitar, “In a House …” sets the tone for a pivotal moment of change, with Corum rising to the occasion as one of the eminent voices in modern alternative music.

The delicate beauty and lushness of “Comfort in Illusion” was carefully captured by Greg Thomas (END, Misery Signals) and Chris Teti (The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die) at Silver Bullet Studios. Thomas’ spacious, engrossing mix is heightened by Kris Crummett of Interlace Audio’s adept mastering - delivering a shimmering, modern sound that listeners will discover in new ways with each pass.

The themes of conviction and change, etched into the fibers of these songs, are also reflected in the band, whose own internal makeup shifted in a similarly bittersweet way. Capturing what amounts to founding drummer Andrew Testa’s most stylistically-definitive performance, the EP also serves as a fitting send off for a member who was integral to crafting the core architecture of the band’s sound. His legacy will be continued and expanded upon through the deft percussion skill of Head with Wings’ resident multi-instrumentalist, Mike Short, who shifts from his co-lead guitar role on the recording of the new songs to drums going forward.

We can never again return exactly to where we have been, and the same can be said of the distinctive lineup of performers in their designated roles on this special output—a moment in time faithfully preserved.

“Comfort in Illusion” features a unique release format, with each song being followed by a cinematic companion piece delivered by the remarkably talented Vikram Shankar. The prolific composer, who was heralded for his expressive piano interpretations of songs on “From Worry to Shame,” expands his contributions to the Head with Wings collective with fully reimagined arrangements of each movement of the forthcoming EP. These remixes transform each track’s mood into a palpable visual scene listeners can explore in their own personal way.

June 25th marks the launch of the Bandcamp pre-order for the "Comfort in Illusion" digipak CD/standard digital edition, along with the pre-order for the digital expanded edition, which contains the Vikram Shankar remixes and instrumental mixes.  As of today, all three songs from this EP are represented by animated music videos on the band's YouTube channel.  All formats of "Comfort in Illusion" will be available on July 16th.

Says Josh, “Truthfully, each of our songs has its own message and baggage, but globally, I think the band would be in agreement that we want people to push themselves to lead a life that is self-fulfilling and not one that was either chosen for them, expected or assumed. We want people to find themselves in this world and then double down on who they are. Part of being an artist is giving yourself to the unknown and unabashedly believing in yourself, sometimes to the point of delusion. It doesn’t matter what you do, but that you love doing it. Have no regrets about believing in yourself. This band travels through darkness to find empowerment and we want people to feel that too.”

All of the music/lyrics on this EP were written before the pandemic/quarantine. However, the band was dwelling on concepts of isolation and withdrawal on “From Worry to Shame,” where coincidentally, the protagonist withdraws from society for one year and then begins his reemergence as a “new man.” This EP occurs during his year of isolation.

The band is currently in pre-production for the next album, which will be the finale to the saga that was started on their debut. There’s talk about shooting a music video with Ingwar Dovgoteles (The Black Soil) in Ukraine for the next one and that is certainly exciting. Says Josh, “We’re looking to shoot more live action music videos, as we’ve really gone down the rabbit hole with animated videos. Regarding gigs, we’re taking stock of the venues and festivals that are re-emerging, as society crawls out of the clutches of the pandemic. Though we’ve been rehearsing, we haven’t played a show since our 2019 tour in Germany (where we played Euroblast Festival).  We’ll be announcing new shows for late summer/fall on our Facebook page as they get confirmed. There is one festival on the books for us on May 20-22, 2022 which is Festival Terra Incognita in Quebec City.” Head With Wings is scheduled to perform at Space Ballroom in Hamden, CT opening for Moon Tooth on August 5th.

“Comfort in Illusion” was recorded at Silver Bullet Studios (Burlington, CT) between December 2019 and March 2020. The EP was tracked, edited, mixed and produced by Greg Thomas with additional tracking and mixing by Chris Teti. Mastered by Kris Crummett at Interlace Audio (Portland Oregon) in Fall 2020. All songs were written and performed by Head with Wings. Releasing July 16th.

Here’s what the press has said about Head With Wings:

From the moment the picked guitars of opener ‘Goodbye Sky’ make their sun-kissed presence felt, it's clear this is an album boasting an embarrassment of riches on the melody front.” - Planet Rock Magazine

There are more than enough points of melancholic majesty to make this well worth a listen.” - PROG Magazine

There's a passion in the vocal delivery that matches the subject matter.” - Powerplay Magazine

Although at times melancholic and stark with lyrics to match, Head With Wings have put out a winner with ‘From Worry To Shame.’ I also commend the band for tackling some societal issues that many bands wouldn’t touch. A thought provoking and rewarding listen, both lyrically and musically. Recommended.” - Sea of Tranquility

The music is delicate and flows organically from the deep lyrics and obvious passion that the band has for both art and humanity.” - The Prog Mind

With this delicate subject, Head with Wings achieved a masterful debut album of maturity and emotion. This album is proof that the prog does not have to be outrageously technical to succeed in touching.” - Koid'9 Magazine Rock & Progressif

It is an incredibly intense album, both lyrically and especially musically, so much so that at times it feels there is a weight, a physical pressure, being delivered. It is all part of the presence and forethought which has gone into it. Overall this is a wonderful debut, and I for one am certainly looking forward to the next one with great interest.” - Kev Rowland, Progressor
