Rock Review: Dave Goddess Group-Blown Away EP

Release Date: April 1, 2014
Label: Indie

Dave Goddess (lead vocals, lead and rhythm guitars, keyboards, and percussion), Mark Buschi (bass guitar, background vocals), Tom Brobst (keyboards, saxophone, flute) and Tom Bazylak (drums) are the Dave Goddess Group.

Right out of the gate on the Blown Away EP it all kicks it into high gear with the title track. And it comes as no surprise that it is the best track. Think Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes or early Springsteen and you will be close to the sound you will hear on this power packed session.

The classic rock touch with soulful deep vocals is the trademark of this band. Namesake Goddess leads the way with heartfelt vocals while the music follows in step. Every track highlights these qualities that make their sound so appealing and recognizable.

“One Man’s Passion” speaks of the irony of life where one man’s passion is another man’s poison. The music is perfect for the vocal lines as each follows the other in this high energy excursion. “Fall From Grace” keeps up the consistency while the closer ends with the way things started as “Common Ground” shifts into overdrive again to remind you that this band means business.

Even though you only get a taste of what this band has to offer on Blown Away it certainly leaves a lasting impression. You are left unsatisfied and wanting the party to keep going. That is a good thing because the mission is accomplished. In four tracks you get what is best about the Dave Goddess Group and that is exactly what the band would want to do with so little time to impress a budding fan base and potential followers.

Blown Awayis an suitable title and I am sure that is the feeling you would have after catching this band live. Its pure rock ‘n’ roll ecstasy on the EP and they most certainly will gain some new fans and increase their reach with this mighty fine taster. I look forward to hearing the full course meal of music soon.
